The complete lack of info about LS
Been like that for a while now. I agree with you. I think I’d rather have stuff to discuss beforehand.
It has been done like that for a good while now, either since the beginning of this year or the start of Season 2, I forget which. Previously they released the ‘Release Pages’ a week beforehand, but they stopped doing that and began doing a trailer instead.
there was a big spoiler on the chinese website
but I feel more happy gw2 do it as a surprise
promotion/marketing wise, doesnt seem that great, however, maybe its just not going to be that big of a deal, so no reason to promote it much
Also one of the things about less information is less people speculating on the market and making a killing. Even with relatively innocuous information…people can figure out the kitten edest things.
It’s a little strange. I’m looking forward to today’s update, but I don’t have anything specific to look forward to.
Um, yeah! I suppose. Judging from previous Season 2 episodes, I’m expecting a few story instances that are reasonably interesting, but with generally unremarkable rewards. Mawdrey / Mawdrey II was an interesting reward, but the process was complicated enough (and not explained in-game enough) and expensive enough that I still haven’t bothered with it, leaving my inventory full of things like the Cultivated Seed and Chaos Orb. Maybe it’s a satisfying reward if you go all the way through it, but when I was actually going through the story instances, my reaction was less “Yeah, reward!” and more “Seriously, another Important Junk?”
I don’t expect the same stream of back/helmet skins that Season 1 had, but I don’t feel particularly rewarded for Season 2 thus far. The story is fine, and that’s enough to keep me doing it, but I’m finding myself altogether less engaged than Season 1.
Still, I thought the final chapter of the previous half was great, so I’m looking forward to seeing where things go.
Also one of the things about less information is less people speculating on the market and making a killing. Even with relatively innocuous information…people can figure out the kitten edest things.
Sorry, the market speculators already know what to buy and have already bought it. The information is out there, it just wasn’t officially released. If they wanted to lessen the impact of speculators then they should have announced the information publically all at once.
Dunno if you saw, but now there’s an abundance of info because they told a bunch of gaming websites this info ahead of schedule.
It’s really awesome stuff, only dampened by the fact that I spent two weeks alternating between “eh” and “probably cool” irt the new patch when I could have been really excited. I don’t like not knowing stuff. And frankly, the only things that got me really and truly excited before today were leaks from the Chinese company that Arenanet made them take down. Just really counterproductive announcement strategies; I don’t know if Arenanet knows that the trailers just don’t excite quite a lot of people without some baseline information to go on.
I don’t mind 0 information if what i get after that “0 information” is something consistent both in quality and in QUANTITY.
Well people have been asking for a new armor set in game. Careful what you wish for. lol
Would be nice if ANet at least hyped it a bit more… or maybe not. Don’t feel like wading though an ocean of ‘ANet hypes everything too much’ threads.
See, this is a great example of kitten if they do, kitten if they don’t.
They did have quite big previews for most of S1 (on the same level as the Chinese preview for the update coming today) and people complained about how it spoiled too much.
Now they have had less for a while and with every patch people have complained about how they tell us too little about it.
Then when the Chinese site released the same amount of info as ArenaNet did before (that people shout about them going back to) people raged like mad.
So no matter which way they go there will be complaints, so why one should they choose?

@lordkrall no, this is a perfect example of going from one extreme to another. Extremes are never good, there should be a balance. They did not find that balance…they just went from too much info to almost 0 info.
But where is that balance?
If they tell us a new zone is coming people will claim that is too much information. If they don’t they can’t really tell us more than they show in the teasers.

What’s the real problem, though, with sharing zero information on something like an upcoming Living Story? They provided a teaser video. What more could you possibly want prior to the content’s release except skill / balance changes, which aren’t in today’s release?
Well there’s this thread that has 3 (currently) websites with sorta spoilers/info for todays patch.
Please give us a keyring…
There has actually been more info about this release than any release previously (at least season 2).
1) they gave us a trailer
2) it’s a story, if cinemas gave out videos explaining the plot no one would come
2) it’s a story, if cinemas gave out videos explaining the plot no one would come
Spoiler:(don't watch if you haven't seen Star Wars, for whatever reason)

That new armor looks SIC! and the illumination that can be upgraded also looks sic!

That doesn’t seem to be the case. These days trailers often start off as teasers way before launch, but by the time you get to launch there are trailers that pretty well spell out the plot. Unless, of course, the movie is supposed to be a “gotcha” kind of movie with unexpected turns.
