There is no end-game content.
I do agree with you to an extent, after you’re geared, which don’t take long, even less time if you want to buy the gold, there’s not a whole lot to do. The other day I noticed myself running around in circles in Lion’s Arch when I said, “wtf am I doing”? Here in lies the problem with the way gear works in this game and why there’s such a divide. If you have progressive dungeons, like wow for instance, then there must be something to work toward. In wow’s case, its gear and so people work thier butts off to get to that gear. Guild Wars does things differently. Sooo many people threw a hissy fit when they mentioned the addition of ascended gear. Apparently a large number of people don’t want to work for anything at all, ever. This a huge problem for a mmo style type game in my opinion. You NEED something to keep people coming back, logging in, having fun etc. I don’t know what the solution is exactly, but I agree, there is nothing exciting post lvl 80 and that is really unfortunate. The game is young though, hopefully this will come with time. Remember, the lvl cap in GW1 was lvl 20 and it stayed that way forever. Working for a ring, or worse yet, paying 25g to make back piece and another 25g to get a +5 stat bonus is absolutely ridiculous. That is another thing, I mean the mats to make the infusion for a measly +5 stay bonus is ludacris to say the least. In my opinion, people who put in the work should have better gear and have an advantage over those who don’t. I know some don’t agree but I think that’s the way a game like this should be designed. Equal gear for all sounds great on paper, as does socialism, until the ones who work really hard realize that they are wasting their time and stop working as well and the whole thing comes crashing down.

WvW is gross amounts of fun when you actually use a chat program to communicate, instead of lone wolf roaming, or blindly following the person with the most gold.
We have a mumble on Maguuma for each borderland, and people work with each other. At least, that’s how I’ve been getting by.
In the end, my carrot on a stick long term plan is getting the Flame Prophecies legendary shield. It’ll take time, but that’s something to work toward.
Maguuma – [TriM][DERP]
I think it comes down to personal preference.
I have a blast with 3 of my friends, roaming WvW, retaking supply camps, waylaying supply Dolyaks ect. We could quite happily stick with that for a few hours, so for us, this is end-game.

I really dont know what is the solution but i feel that there is nothing to keep me playing on my lvl 80. It is true that the game is young and i hope for improvements as the time goes by, but in order to do so, we must discuss whats the problem and how to solve it.
Like i said, i really dont know what would make me keep comming back to my level 80 that wouldn’t be unfair in pvp and so on, i like games where pvp isn’t based on gears, but this game doesnt take that much skill to make it very different, and the ACTUAL viable builds are very restrictive.
Just throwing something out here, but i think all weapons should be playble by all classes, this would make an large number of different viable builds.
On the spvp issue.
I created a warrior, never played one before, went spvp , with the default builds and utility skills, and after reading a bit of the greatswords skills on the discription i went out there, killing some people and so, i wasnt the number on on any of the teams, but i had around 150 points, for the first time on a warrior. Spvp takes no skill to play, the random pubs, and thats probably the main reason, why i get bored after a few matches on my main char.
As for wvw, well like i said i find no fun in breaking doors, for over 5min, and when inside, there is no1 else left, besides npcs to kill, while doing it we are losing some other castle. Its fun for awhile to fight other zergs and so, but after a few kills and a few deaths there is nothing left to it..
keep the discussion going, i’d like to hear more opinions,
I enjoy doing fractals, but it takes longer to find a group than to end a dungeon, even if i find a few friends in-game to do it, its hard to be online and in the mood for fractals at the same time, my irl friends dont play gw2 so it makes it even harder to find groups.

Find a good guild. And by good, I mean people who’ll help you enjoy the game.
Regardless of content, MMO’s are most fun when played with friends / friendly people with who you have common interests with.

The changes to fractals will address your group finding ability, no longer need to find people at your level. See recent dev posts.
I love WvW, run in Zerg sometimes, but love small 5-10 all guild groups, lots of communications, a couple people ‘baiting’ the other zergs into a ‘kill zone’ is so much fun. A few balistas and arrow carts in a tunnel can take down entire zergs. Capture a keep, upgrade, defend. I personally think you need a group/guild to get the most out of WvW with even a little communication and strategy, it is much more enjoyable.
Its only as fun as you make it if you make it a job then you will think it as a job if you make it something you do with friends then it becomes that. This is true for any thing in life. There is an end game and you will playing it from day one its up to you to chose to enjoy what you can with other ppl or try to solo burn though every thing you can as fast as you can. Keep in mind only been out for 4 months and there no fee on it so there is no sham putting it down for a few months to wait for new content.

You don’t want a game. A game is something people play to have fun.
What you are describing is a grind. While I understand some people are addicted to grind and cannot understand the concept of playing games for fun anymore, if all you want in a MMO is to grind, there are far better options for you in any of the other so-called games in the MMORPG genre.
Meanwhile, for those who want a game, something to have fun with, there is Guild Wars 2.

I wouldn’t mind seeing more stuff to do at 80, though I haven’t even completed everything available now. I’d like more quest lines in future expansions. Add some more areas to explore through the gates under construction in Lion’s Arch (which is probably why they’re there).
That doesn’t require making me buy another set of gear with the number X+Y rather than the number X I have now. It doesn’t make rational sense to add a number to gear and add a number to the monsters stats and call it progression.
I want to work toward exploring all the content, not work for a couple numbers on my gear.
I thought people stopped spreading this joke of “no endgame”.
There is a plethora of things to do that will make any other vanilla game shut up, and there are tons of things that will take months to work toward to as well.
If you’re one of those who game as a time killer and not for fun then work for legendaries and titles, you prolly have 2000 hours just of that.
This game isn’t about end-game.
It’s about enjoying the whole experience from exploration to crafting to even a little WvW.
If you spent your entire leveling-process rushing through everything expecting some magical end-game to open up to you, then you sir have bought the wrong game.

You could say that to people 2 weeks after release. By now even the casuals in my guild are going ‘hm… so what do I do now?’
You don’t want to do this, don’t want to do that, and I don’t see what’s keeping you.
What other games that got a one-time fee keep you busy months long without making content for yourself?
The fact is, a lot of the 80 content revolves around having a solid Group or Guild. Bad part? Anet makes it very difficult to find Guilds and Groups.
We’re forced to use an outside website to find groups for dungeons. The Guild section on the forums is just a zerg of all the guilds across all of the realms (such a mess to go through). If you’re alone, it’s hard to think of things to do if you have no goals. Yes, there’s a lot you could do solo, but it’s so subjective. A lot of the things that pop into my head to give you as an example is stuff that I don’t even find fun or want to do (IE: Jumping Puzzles, map completion, crafting, legendaries, etc). I don’t particularly care for “grinding”, yet I feel like farming a Legendary is doing just that. Plus I think that most of them look lame, so I’m not even interested.
I also find that a lot of the 80 zones are empty now (Orr / Southsun Cove). Probably because Orr is frustrating beyond belief and Southsun has nothing to offer. That could be just my server though.
The point is, the game is young. It’ll get better and it’ll add more content over time, just like all of the past MMOs before it. Hopefully they’ll add some kind of progression in WvWvW to make it more worth while.
My suggestion? Get onto a populated server. Find a guild. Make friends. Use voice chat. It makes the game a lot more enjoyable. Guild Wars 2 feels almost like a Sandbox MMO (using that term very lightly). It’s not like traditional MMOs where you’re like “Okay, I have to level. Now I have to grind my gear. Now I have to raid. Now I have to raise my PVP rating. Now I have to blahblah, etc.” It’s more like “sign on and do something.” It’s not laid out in front of you, which is very confusing for people.
This game isn’t about end-game.
It’s about enjoying the whole experience from exploration to crafting to even a little WvW.
The exploration is alright, and if I was interested in rolling alts maybe I could enjoy it again, but I did alot of exploration when leveling my main because I felt there was nothing to rush for (and ended missing out on alot of guild activity, which really started falling off hard around the same time I hit 80).
But the crafting? It’s the same mundane crafting I see in every other MMO; nothing about it is interesting.

Ye… And you know what is the saddest thing about it? There are so many bosses, epic events or really cool places that just scream to visit them! But the problem is there is no reword for doing so.
So much content not so much reasons to play with it… That’s my opinion.
PS I’m still loving the game and finding things to do! But this game lacks so little to be so great!

Upper middle class.
Not as boring, bland and useless as in WoW clones, but also not the EQ2/FFXI type.

How so?
You don’t even farm for materials, you farm for gold to buy the materials; you can do it all without ever leaving Lion’s Arch.
That’s as “boring, bland and useless” as in so many other MMOs. In fact, I think even WoW had a more involved crafting system, at least with regards to certain pieces, let alone some of the endgame weapons.
I never played EQ2/FFXI, so I can’t comment on them, but my reference is Asheron’s Call, where the spell component system was a more interesting use of what amount to crafting mats.

That is because, unlike other MMOs, Guild Wars 2 has not been made for grinders, who feel the need to be rewarded for everything. It has been made for gamers, to whom having fun, by playing through those epic events or finding those really cool places, is enough of a reward for itself.
I wonder how does a grinder act in real life; must be shocking to see how going to the movies doesn’t end with the grinder being paid for watching something. I mean, why would people do it if there is no reward in the end, right?

In WoW, you don’t need or use any of the items you create until max level. Then it will be two items at maximum that will last for a few runs in any raid.
See, if you don’t even gather yourself, but just buy and craft the bar instead of making items, looking for recipes from karma vendors or special discoveries, it’s not the system’s fault. I might as well just kill the same mob over and over again and then say there’s only one type of enemy in this game and all you do is grind this single type.

Well take this for an example; Would you be able to play most singleplayer games for years with the gameplay not changing?
Thats what GW2 ( and all other MMORPGs) are like. The gameplay doesnt change much over course of time, therefor people need other goals to drive them, aka most cases numbers, since many gamers agree " graphics is just compliment to good gameplays and story".
Taking that to account, why do Gw2’ers think no one is having fun if they join the “gear treadmill”??
Its like saying, its not fun building muscles at the gym, just working out is the fun, not the results. Konstant growth = pleasure = “fun”
I belive GW2 would work better as a PVP game, since it demands fair balance ( aka no one having better gear then the other). But for PvE you need konstant progression to keep comming back, otherwise you simply play every few months when they do release new content.

The one thing about GW1 that kept me coming back was the ‘stagnant’ progression of items. I could literally come back after a year and be the same off but have more to explore and play. One HUGE advantage was the henchmen and heroes of GW1. While some do not agree I think it offered a lot for the game. I could choose to play with guilds, friends, random pugs, handful of people or just by myself! I loved going into the dungeons just by myself (and heroes) and the reward and difficulty were great. THAT is what kept me coming back.
I can enjoy a gear treadmill too, but that is not what is needed to keep people coming back. Gameplay that is challenging and fun is what will get people to keep playing. Not an artificial construct that invalidates all of your previous work, and the previous areas you have been to. Try going to a low level area in WoW or any other treadmill game. There is no challenge. There is very little challenge for a 80 to go to a low level in GW2 but it is there and you can still be killed quite easily if you don’t pay attention, happened to me earlier actually.
OP: There’s plenty of things to do at level 80. You’ve listed many of them yourself.
Unfortunately you don’t seem to enjoy any of the endgame content the game has to offer. Your options here are:
- Learn to enjoy some of it. People have already offered suggestions, such as finding a good guild to WvW with, etc.
- Make an alt. Presumably you enjoyed the pre-80 game, so make an alt and relive it.
- Wait for some content that you enjoy. For example, the upcoming change to fractal entry requirements will make it a lot easier to find groups. So if you like fractals but are frustrated by the current difficulty in getting a group, then this change will help you.
- Make your own fun. In singleplayer games, players often make challenges for themselves. Eg. speed runs, completing the game with starting equipment, doing ridiculous stunts, etc. There’s just as much opportunity in GW2 for doing stuff like that as in any other game – it’s limited only by your imagination and boredom :P
Ultimately, it’s probably impossible to make a game that will keep all people interested forever. I got bored of WoW at about level 30, so it all depends on personal preference. I got bored of GW1 after Nightfall. I’ll get bored of GW2 one day, too.
You got bored of GW2 much faster than I did. You can probably extract some additional fun out of it, with a little effort. But noone is twisting your arm, you’re free to play something else if you want.
Untill fractals got released there was little PvE content with a challenge/reward system and a social aspect. I must say that fractals are becoming rather stale at the moment, but they are a great addition.
I must say that I feel like there is plenty to do for those who set themself goals. I have tier3 on two characters, but I want to emperor title and a legendary. I still have to level an engineer, mesmer, necro and warrior. I haven’t even played that much WvW and didn’t touch sPvP yet.
I guess it’s person to person. When I played WoW, most people where spending 30% of their time in the Capital cities, 30% traveling (before dungeon queue) and mayb 30% actually doing something. But unlike with WoW, there is new content being added and I don’t feel pressured to play because there is no subscripition fee.
Plus the combat feels less static so I actually enjoy simple “playing” the game. Only thing I’m still missing is versatility in builds. Used to love making and trying out special builds in gw1/
One thing for sure i don’t like about this game is the lack of viable builds you have, of course you have many weapons and utility skills, but for utility skills only 5 out of 20? are worth using, the others are just there so we think we got more option, when we don’t, since they are practically useless. Weapons i feel the same way, i really hate anything besides d/d on my elementalist, and on my guardian anything besides hammer/GS.
The improve on fractals is indeed a good deed, making it easier to find groups, and since i enjoy fractals it is a good thing for me.
I am not really bored about the game, i just feel that there aint much to do on the pvp section, its lacking some content i can’t really explain what.
OP: You not liking the end game content does not mean there isnt any.
It seems that you define end game content as getting new equipment sets.
Seeing as how ANet has said multiple times that there isnt this I’m not sure what you were expecting.
i agree, the end-game lacks depth there’s nothing to do once you’re geared other than do some boring kitten fractals which fail sometimes because of people disconnecting. or make a legendary which is a endless boring grind.
There is endgame content, it just might not appeal to you.
I personally hate dungeons, not very fond of Orr, the new island is uninspiring.
I do like WvW and the 70-80 lvl Frostgorge (or whatever) it is.
I have my most fun getting to lvl 80…

Yes, the game is very good at not restricting very much content to “80’s only”. There’s only a handful of dungeons that have a level 80 requirement, most activities will boost you to 80.

Most of the stuff you said there, i can’t consider it end-game, i consider it completing 100% a game, thats something you do on your playstation game for the max level difficulty or something, not in a mmorpg, i can’t consider getting all achivements, titles or collecting whatever is there to be collected endgame.

I’ve gotten quite a few mini’s. I purchased a couple from the gem store, made some in the Mystic Forge, bought some from the Trading Post (search mini) and recieved a couple as gifts.
Mini dungeons are everywhere, sometimes you can stumble upon a portal or cave, other times you can complete an event chain to open a portal to a mini dungeon. Try looking through your Explorer’s achievement tab, that will give you a hint where some of them are located.
Most toys and shapeshifter items can be found from various vendors located throughout the world. Some can only be purchased with karma, some vendors are only available after an event is completed. There are also tonics which can be made in the Mystic Forge or by an Artificer.

See, just cause World of Pandagrindcraft was your first MMO does NOT mean it’s the way MMOs have to be. They were different before and there have been different ones ever since. You don’t like it? Leave. No need for more wowbabby blabber anywhere outside Pandumpia.

I hit 80 months ago, haven’t run out of stuff to do yetMost of the stuff you said there, i can’t consider it end-game, i consider it completing 100% a game, thats something you do on your playstation game for the max level difficulty or something, not in a mmorpg, i can’t consider getting all achivements, titles or collecting whatever is there to be collected endgame.
Collecting all pets or getting all crafting disciplines to 8, i consider it as grinding, and if i am playing a game to grind, i prefer to grind it for gear, not for mini pets collection.
Nothing about farming gold to get max level discpline is fun, you do it to get the proffesions you want and think are needed and thats it.
See, just cause World of Pandagrindcraft was your first MMO does NOT mean it’s the way MMOs have to be. They were different before and there have been different ones ever since. You don’t like it? Leave. No need for more wowbabby blabber anywhere outside Pandumpia.
Dude you talk about WoW like she cheated on you with your best friend or something.
Guildwars2 isn’t much different and will likely do the same to you, sorry to burst your bubble.
Fractal fractal fractal, free fabulous fractal filled fun feeling for fortunate folk.
They are fun
indeed, can’t wait to do some more fractals tomorrow.
Sorry to dissapoint you, but i’ve never played wow.
What i said up there, was this: If i had to farm, i would be better of farming gears, than farming mini pets or gold to get all 8 proffesions maxed like the other guy suggested for end-game.

All you want to do is farm, but it has to be gear.
Why don’t you just keep playing Blizzcrepe then? Diablo, WoW, all just a silly item grind. That’s where you want to be, so why talk crepe like “no end game” around here when what’s there just doesn’t fit your opinion? If you can’t handle being unable to grind for items endlessly because your character is merely a closet to carry them around, himself being a useless steaming pile, go somewhere else. Plenty of games that way. I don’t play GTA and complain my cars don’t earn experience and I can’t instantly kill someone with my fist just because I wear a new necklace.
When i play GTA i do all the missions with a little killing and so, but once i end the main story and had my fun killing people, i put the game aside, but GTA isnt an mmorpg, GTA isnt a game meant to be played over months, like GW2.
Again, i don’t want to farm gear like i said, but i feel there is some improved needed about end-game content

Lots of gear to farm if you like to farm gear
I’ve always been confused about the “no end game content” complaints. What do you mean? It seems to me that once you’ve exhausted the content you’ve exhausted the content. It seems like complaining that there’s nothing to do once you’ve done everything in Skyrim, Mario Galaxy, or any other game.
There is world completion, PvP, WvWvW, and Dungeons. You could craft a legendary. Become a trading post tycoon. You could level alternate character classes.
Or you can play another game and wait until the next content comes out.

But the minigames are content. Side chains are. Hilarious stunts are. Just because you don’t want to do them does not mean they don’t exist.
Plus, why would GW2 need to be played over months? What difference is there to GTA?
No MMORPG has any end-game content, only expansions.
