This Community is the worst.
:(
find another server, or better yet go to LoL. you think we’re bad? try playing with that lot.
I just don’t see how you can come here and “vent” while saying how salty everyone ELSE is.
The games community isn’t prefect, but it’s “Leagues” better then some others, if you know what I mean
find another server, or better yet go to LoL. you think we’re bad? try playing with that lot.
So let me get this straight… This is a little extreme but:
The kitten of nanking was okay because the holocaust had 6x more deaths? that is okay?
sorry for being extreme but you get my example I hope

Don’t think hes saying that to make it “ok”, but you called out the community as the “worst”. Saying others are worse then the GW2 community diesn’t mean it’s good to be rude, it just means the GW2 community isn’t the be all end all of toxic.

So I should be content with being told to ‘Kill myself’ from other players because I decide to run a certain build or play a certain way or complete an event? No. That is called assault where ever you go. Internet, Real life, Texts.
hmm that’s odd. 95% of the community I run into seems fine.
Sure we’ve all run into people who are terrible but the majority has always been pretty good.
Honestly for pvp, if I’m just looking around to have fun and mess around, I play hot joins. For unranked, I’m looking for wins and I’m guessing most others are as well.
Whenever I see people ping something nice that dropped or when they’re forging their legendaries, I usually see people saying “grats” or such in chat.
Either you’re playing at the worst possible times or you’re only picking up the negative comments.
Did I ever say you should be content with that?; no one said that you should. I simply said other communities are worse. I also went on to say " doesnt mean it’s good to be rude".
If someone is acting like that simply ask them to stop, if they continue report + block and move on.
If you choose to let that type of behavior have a serious effect on you, that’s entirely up too you. The game has tools you can use right now to block messages like that.
The real thing I don’t get about posts like this is, if in your opinion the community is so terrible, why come here to rant about it? You are calling out the community minus the people you know as toxic, and saying how terrible everyone is. (Isn’t that a little toxic?)
(edited by Miku.6297)
I’m sorry that you have had an unpleasant experience with other players in the game. It can happen anywhere. In game. In real life. It is just the reality that you have to deal with. Try not to let it get to you. Be the mature person in the situation, and you will come out feeling a lot better about it. Sometimes just ignoring the trolls is the best way to go about things. They can’t touch you. So don’t let them.
That being said, I think it is unfair to label everyone in this game as “unfriendly” due to the actions of a rude minority. I have had my fair share of unpleasant experiences, but in general, I find this community to be just as friendly (and rude) as any other gaming community I have been a part of.
All Flame Legion are Charr. Not all Charr are Flame Legion.
Only event I know of that people want you to fail is lyssa defend event since the attack event give better loot.
Dont blame the players blame the developers that scewed the drops on the two events should just remake defend one to have same chance for said loot.
Huh.. Yeah, I’d suggest finding another server. I’ve never had those problems. People are generally rather friendly. I’m sorry to hear you’ve had such a hard time. I’ve left a few guilds that were unfriendly and disrespectful but that was isolated. Map Chat in LA can be kinda trolly though. Sometimes they’re actually helpful to people. So Its a bit of both there.
Woah, this thread is turning darker and darker by the minute.
@OP, GW2 isn’t completely toxic free, Anet is deluding themselves when they say that. But it’s not the worst. You get salty players in every mmo, and I literally mean every mmo. If you can’t deal with it, maybe you should stop playing mmo’s in general (not trying to sound sarcastic or comedic there, just trying to voice a serious opinion)
When players, in game, say to kill yourself they’re usually referring to your in game character, not you in real life. If they do threaten you, the physical you/the real you, that’s a real federal crime and can really be reported if you really feel threaten. Please don’t over dramatize your situation, it makes real threats and real dangers look like jokes when they aren’t.
For players that just talk crap about your build, just win the match and show them up. I run non-meta builds all the time and constantly show up nah-sayers. You have to remember that PvP is a competitive game-mode, you can’t blame players from wanting to win or insuring the best chances by playing meta builds/play-styles/strategies that are proven to work. So as long as you win with your build, anything they say doesn’t mean kittensu.
And also, pinging your nice drops is a kitten-bag move. Players in this game farm for hours for drops, you should know this, and you want to rub salt into their already bleeding wounds? Expect salt. You want a congratulatory message? Ping it to your friends, the people who know how long or hard you worked to get that drop. Not to the people who are working just has hard, if not harder, and still have to keep working for it.
You know, about the worst I’ve personally witnessed in this game was one player dancing over the body of a fallen foe in WvW. One player. Once. Despite a reasonable amount of time In QDale, I never witnessed more than mild disappointment that someone killed a champ out of phase.
I must be lucky, I guess, or the OP is unlucky. Sorry you’ve had a rough experience so far. There are decent folk out there.
Stop being so sensitive, OP. This is the internet. Block and move on.
Stop being so sensitive, OP. This is the internet. Block and move on.
Report, Block, And move on. If the ANET moderators think its a problem then they will deal with the player in question.
And honestly this is probably the best community ive played with in a loooonnnggggggggg time.
Kinda new, but most posts I’ve seen say GW2 has pretty much the most laid back community out there. Heck, I’ve seen more posts “complaining” about the lack of seriousness than general toxicity (pvp exception, but that’s typical). Ofc that’s just reading. What little pve experience I got leveling 2 characters up to 80 seems mostly positive though.
I’ll agree that the PvP community in this game is horrible.
~ If you’re not G.W.E.N, you’re garbage.
~ If you’re spec isn’t meta, you’re garbage.
~ If you don’t one shot or global someone, you’re garbage.
~ If you can’t carry your team while they’re AFK, you’re garbage.
~ If you take one single hit, you’re mocked and you’re garbage.
~ If you can’t kill 3 people at once, you’re garbage.
~ If you go down because 3 people are wrecking you, you’re garbage.
It goes on forever. Though there’s a difference between venting and being salty. Venting is when you’ve enough and blow it off. Salt or being salty is keeping it bottled up, being a baby about it and throwing a fit when someone gets lucky.
If you want to point a finger at someone for the communities attitude, point it at A.net. If dungeons in this game weren’t so horribly broken – Run, stack, run, stack, run, stack, skip this trash, run, stack, and give players content that can be taken as something other than a joke, attitudes would improve. Perhaps pug’ing wouldn’t be a nightmare.
If Magic Find in this game wasn’t broken, players wouldn’t salty because loot would drop. And just to give you an example of how MF is broken, go your Trading Post, see how many pres and legendaries are up for sale then note how many people are wearing a legendary. Strange that the percentage ratio to pres dropping, which you need for a legendary is somehow skewed compared to how many months players; who’ve been around since release with 300% MF have yet to see a pre outside of the Trading Post.
If PvP in this game wasn’t polarized between zerker and bunker, players would have a reason to use other builds, gear and talent set ups. Reducing the chance for elitism. Now am I saying that it’s all A.net’s fault? No, but they certainly aren’t doing anything to address the problem. There aren’t any plans for dungeon tweaks, no revamps, no looking at reward vs risk for all content. Maybe if they gave a kitten about their game others would have better attitudes.
I’ve played most MMOs and this is the most tame community. Wow, Aoc, and Archeage have been the worst. Archage was mainly due to the goons though.

You do realize that there’s plenty of people in the game who don’t run zerker, don’t LOS mobs, don’t stack together, and such and they still have fun, right?
If you think it’s so broken, then don’t run it like that.
If you think pugging is a nightmare, grab a group of friends or a guild.
What server are you playing? I never saw anything like that happening. I find the GW2 community one of the best I ever had the pleasure to participate. Maybe you are just… unlucky? xD IDK what to say because that’s not my daily experience at all. Is your opinion based on a one-time thing?
I don’t seem to have these experiences everyone else has aside from a handful of people.
I was in pvp with my ele running d/d but I forgot to switch out my staff. Huge oops. I was sucking horribly bad but no one said a word from either side.
GW2 has one of the best community I’ve ever played in.
Sure in competitive game modes everybody is a bit more aggressive but still not a LoL, WoT, WT or even WoW level. Ask them for help, explain the situation you are in or simply block them.
The people around Tyria are really helpful.
-Simple players giving banners and food on large events.
-Mesmers offering free portals to challenging jumping puzzles.
-Players are moving out from event circles so you can get your reward/daily too.
-If you ask about a POI in map chat you will have half a dozen answers in seconds and one guy will be happy to show you the way directly.
-If you go downed it’s 90% that someone will show up and ress you.
-Random people are mailing you dyes and skins because they don’t need it.
-Other gamers popping swiftness on you while running through each other.
-If you are a new starter random guys going to give you ideas about weapons, levelling, utilities and skills. They might give you bags and food too sometimes even low level weapons/skins.
-Players helping out each other on mapchat and congratulate if you get a rare drop.
I love this community!

1st of all, why are you interacting with that toxic bog that’s called pvp? Especially if they ask you for your build in spvp you can get the picture how elitist can that player be.
In orr there is a toxic behaviour events wise, i have came across a few groups that are trying to fail the event. If they report you for no reason, they will eat the ban themselves.
Just, hi and bye is my usual interaction wirh pug groups which is proven flawless. Try it sometimes.

I can’t remember ever hearing any racist comments? Maybe because I play on EU servers (oddly enough).
As for toxicity, the only places I’ve ever found toxicity was in PvP and in the farmers (chest farm, champ farm etc.).
WOW an MMO with a bad community OMG so unheard of!!!! -_- please get over it, every mmo has a horrible community, the Gaming community in general is completely toxic
Yes the community is the six farmers you had a problem with. Rolls eyes.
Actually, I’ve seen far far more posts saying this is the best community I’ve seen than this is the worst.
There are bad apples in every game. That’s not the community.

Dunno… my first MMO was Star Wars Galaxies, on the Bloodfin server. We had some drama to shake the heavens, as a server, but the point is, WE HAD IT AS A SERVER. We all pretty much left that game at the same time (CU/NGE), but when SW:TOR launched many years later, a huge chunk of Bloodfin descended on one and the same server to play together again.
That’s a community. It does exist.
(edited by Broom.2561)
My experience has been almost the exact opposite. I’ve occasionally run across people being rude but the vast majority of players have been nice or simply don’t say anything. Even when it’s something that frustrates everyone on the map, like Silverwastes failing, there’s usually one person ranting about it and everyone else telling them to calm down and get over it.
I do wonder if server makes a difference here. I’ve heard people in a few games say people on EU servers are nicer (or at least less aggressive and less likely to swear or threaten you) and even with the megaserver your specific server does still affect who you’re playing with on busy maps.
Incidentally I’ve never heard the word salt/salty used that way. I’ve only heard it used to describe people by sailors, talking about experienced sailors vs. everyone else, and even then it’s kind of archaic.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
You can toggle of map chat and the block list exists for a reason… =_=
Hurr durr toxic!
Nice meme there, edgelord.
Gunnar’s Hold
I am taking a deep breath here because you are wrong. Sure there are some bad people in the community (I’ve never seen anyone being rude) and to emphasize my point I wrote this a couple of days ago:

You dont really have to read it but these is my opinion on the community
“I would like to thank you all for such a wonderful game. I personally believe that Guild Wars 2 is the BEST MMO in existence. It encourages cooperation, the storytelling is great, the gameplay is amazing, and the unique MMO mechanics and no sub-fee are a blessing. I would like to thank the awesome guilds I’ve joined since launch, who shall remain anonymous. If you want a small hint they are all RP guilds. Thank you guild for the amazing storytelling we make, and being kind to me, I cannot wait what will we do with our guild hall, its going to be great!. But most of all I would also like to thank you, thank you for showing me where events were for my dailies, thank you for helping getting achievement points, thank you for the dungeon runs, thank you for casual map chatting, thank you for playing with me. "
Im sorry you had a bad experience
Welcome to the internet, and life, where people can and will be kittens.
Also from a MMO standpoint the community is quite tame, probably one of the better ones I’ve seen. The only toxicity I’ve seen is in LFG pugs, but that’s a different story.
Hmm… All it needs is one thread and it’s done.
But i’m not so sure if you are playing the same game, well yes, yes you are.
Megaserver has most of us in a few phases of the game.
I have not seen any toxic players at all, not in general chat, not in talk, not ever.
The only place this game has toxic players, is dungeons and ranked PvP, where people can say whatever they feel like, but the best part is to just report and block, they will get what they deserve if they spew bs, insults/threats/etc.
Toxic players in a more “competetive” area is normal, doubt there’s anyway around it.
But out in the world, i have yet to see any abuse of any kind, ever. Infact, this is the first game where people actually HELP eachother, yeah, help.
There wouldnt be no problem with Pugs at all ,if Dungeons would be so designed, that you can play them Solo with “Heroes”. (If everyone could do that, then there would be also no need anymore for this stupid economy breaking Dungeon Selling)
Dungeons shouldn’t be enforced to be played with 4 other people.
Yes, they should give player some kind of incentive to play with pother people, like an increased Exp and Karma Bonus at the end of it for every real player in your Group.
And another Bonus to Exp/ Karma, when all Group Members are of the same Guild to have an incentive to play together especially with your Guild Members together over simple random Pugs…
On the otherhand, the whole Dungeons need all to be completely redesigned, they are all a koke compared to the Dungeosn we had in GW1, which made all alot more fun, because they were more than just simply 3-4 for stupid instanced pathes with some among the,, which can be abused as Solo Farm to make much quicker gold in this game from selling these pathes, than it was originally supposed to make gold with them, what is another reason, why gold lost so quickly in its worth.
Anet made the dramatic mistake not to fix all those Solo Dungeon Sell Options in an instant, no they played it even childishly down as a “Service to the Players” from other players, and in fact it hurts daily more and more only the worth of gold in an indirect way, prices rise higher and higher, because everyone expects from people to do also dungeon selling, if they want to get quick enough that high amounts of gold….
Thats the problem with people, when they find super profitable ways of makign alot quicker money in a game, than it was supposed to make money in this game, it lets quickly rise all prices for everythign in the game, because players expect instantly from each other, that they do the same thing simply like them to milk out the profitable things, as long its possible!.
The first thing after the LFG tool happened and people got a platform they abuse for their dungeon sells was, how you could see the ration of Gold to Gems skyrocketing, because people got this way way too fast gold and were naturally alot easier able to torn that gold into gems alot faster, than people bought Gems with real money as a counterweight to keep the Gem/Gold ratio stabile.
—-
About PvP, theres nothing Anet can do, other than changing the way how PvP functionizes, rebalancing the Classes to make more builds viable for PvP and breaking the Meta of GWEN by giving the other classes better PvP options, A.I fixes ect.
Downed Mode should get taken out of PvP, its just only disturbing and is counterproductive, cause when your down, you have basically already lost in PvP, its better to get respawned instantly to be qquick back somewhere in battle, where you could help better, than laying alot of important seconds half dead on the ground.
That stupid respawn timer of 5 seconds is already disturbing enough and should be something to be removed at least, if ANet wants to keep the downed, that you have at least no respawn timer, if you were longer than 5 seconds in downed mode and died then.
The community as a whole was alot better at game release, where most parts of the community were only consisting out of GW1 veterans and total MMO nebies that have never before played an MMO not even GW1 before, but became in general more toxic over time, when a lot of WoW players and people from other games migrated over to GW2 over the years. Thats basically my own experience that I have seen and felt, which turned this games community worser over time, its basically only the outer influences that this game receive from other game communities of people that came over to GW2 from somewhere else.
Not that I want to point my finger now only on them, there are also nice WoW peopel as liek toxic GW1 veterans, but from y personal experiences, the most toxity comes over from the majority of people that migrated from other games to GW2 and basically brought over that “general toxic behavior” that they know and seem to think that it is “normal” from there over to here.
Unless like that, you will find in every MMO always forms of toxity, be it the classical Elitists, be it the bored idiots that start simply fights over their own boredom to get attention, be it the mocking, jumping and laughing over a dead in WvW after having steamroled that person with a like 10+v1 what is really no achievement to be any proud off..in fact toxic childish people who do somethign like that should be rather ashamed of themselves for being so immature and bad winners
TC, this is your first MMO or online game you’ve played right?
Sure seems like it.
If you try to do events you get spammed and harassed to not complete the events because people are trying to farm the failed events.
Could you give some examples since I can’t come up with more than gates of arah event that would fit this situation.
If you get a cool item and ping it like I did to my group of friends and say chat, the salt…. Its as potent as diving head first into the dead sea.
Some people say grats, some are envious. Often depends on how you ping the item and in what context (and what map chat).
The community in this game is immature, racist, a disgusting bunch of the worst people I’ve ever seen.
My experience is that people often see their own character traits perdominantely in others as well, or at least their mental state lets them view others in certain ways. This comment says more about you than the community.
The community in this game is immature, racist, a disgusting bunch of the worst people I’ve ever seen.
So you run into some bad apples and call the entire community immature, racist, disgusting and worst people you’ve ever seen? You are no better than they are with a comment like this.
If the chats are so bad you can make a new chat tab and select which chats you want to see.. If I were you I’d make one for just your guild seeing as you find the entire community toxic.
I disagree with the OP because the community as a whole is the best community in any online game.
However, the OP is right on the part of open world farming. When you get farming techniques that require either failing and event, or a train that thinks it owns events or champs, there’s going to be toxicity.
Open world farming is a bad idea and it brings down the reputation of an otherwise over-exeedingly good community.
But OP: One or two selfish farmers does not equal the entire gaming community of Guild Wars 2!
Most players in Guild Wars 2 are very helpful and polite players, a lot more so than most other games.
Soo.. insulting whole community basing on few people… Sounds like you are part of that toxicity.
In what community are u in? IF you describe them all soo terrible.
Personally from my experience in last 2 years..
PVE isnt salty at all… one of friendliest place ever.. If it dont come to ToT farmers… but even then they dont trash talk every time when someone doing hearth or trolling them. No need to trash whole community basing on few individuals.
Events? In what events does people get soo salty? as u trying to describe?
Dungeon? Depends with who u run them… With people who want run trough or people who looking for gameplay? I can see people getting salty if your not trying to cooperate with each other.
PvP UNranked? I run 80~% of time non meta build or heavily modified meta by myself. And I have never had experience some bullies who would directly turn on my build. And not running for meta build u get instantly / trash talked to death? Nop.
PVP ranked? Well there I can see people getting salty if your not running the most effective build. And not cooperating with team.
WvW? nothing on this one. Its just being salty sometimes.
As someone who’s been pretty critical about the forum community in the past: Nah.
This place is an interesting mix of care bears and squeaky wheel philosophy adherents, with others still being more talented and well thought out folks than the typical community with regards to the forums.
A lot of people in the squeaky wheel philosophy adherent camp are maybe very young, maybe (or perhaps in addition) kinda stupid dense, often emotional folk who don’t always put what they want to say in the best of terms.
But the very act of posting betrays the fact they care enough to post about their issues and offer their (belligerent) thoughts and criticisms. That’s something more than what someone who doesn’t care would offer (zero kittens).
It could be a lot worse. It’s a pretty tame, mellow, friendly community overall.
Honestly, i have never seen this toxicity you speak off, even in spvp and me having a bad day.
I’m pretty sure that YOU were the toxic one and when people responded back, you got hurt in the gluteus maximus. You keep saying the community is salty and the worse, but if anything, it’s because of people like you who want to be toxic under the guise of “venting”.
Been playing this game for quite some time now, but never seen this happen. I can see angry people in wvw from time to time, but that is not salty like you described. Sorry.

I’d have to disagree with you there OP. I’ve never had this problem at all. Maybe its your region? And that’s why our experience differ so.

I never understand these posts. I spend 100% of my time pugging. I pug dungeons, fractals, PvP, open world and WvW.
I have never once since launch been kicked, yelled at, seen any racist comments or experienced any sort of hate.

Don’t let the door hit you on the way out.

I think the OP is more likely to be the problem than hundreds of thousands of people all being the same evil people.
