This game has completely lost its way...
Lately I’ve been wondering if there’s a “planned obsolescence” in the game design.
There are bugs and broken mechanics still in place that have been there since launch — some of which have been acknowledged by ANet staff. Yet they continually remain unaddressed. Add to that a constant stream of new, shiny, temporary content that, while it has its bright spots for some, is really pretty shallow.
What does this pattern do for the game? The new shiny stuff makes for great advertising copy. They can publish screen shots of characters with the newest (mostly unattainable) weapon skins, fighting cool new monsters and engaging in fresh new encounters. This draws in new players, which means more box sales and potential new gem shop customers.
Meanwhile, veteran players get frustrated and fed up with the same old broken content. It’s almost like ANet is saying to veteran players, “You’ve played the game already. Move along.”
I think you’ve put your finger on something here. Although we can only speculate, this would explain quite a lot. I would additionally add that it may get some of those who have left to come back long enough to spend money in an attempt to get the newest items, and then leave once again after they discover how little new content and activities have actually been added.
I have been thinking the same thing. Either way, I DID have my moneys worth in fact, that I cant disagree with. However, I’m now at the point where playing the game actually makes me depressed…so I can’t imagine logging in much to be honest.
Guess I just hope they eventually listen and change it.
People talk about wanting progression, but then they talk about filling bars and getting bigger numbers on their gear
Have you progressed as players? – Have you truly mastered your class, fine tuned your builds to suit your style while maximising effectiveness, have you gotten outfits tuned to look 100% pure awesome?
What about WvW, PvP, fractals – have you mastered those?
Getting exotic gear isn’t “the end of the game”, it’s just the beginning, now your gear progression ends and taking your mastery of the game to the next level – you can’t rely on gear to make you “better” you have to become the better player. I don’t understand this attitude that “legendary weapon and ascended gear = completed the game”.
Look at players in fractal level 1 and players in fractal level 40 and tell me that nothing has progressed.

everything serves as a lesson and opportunity for progression,it should not be required to grind (thats the proper term) fractlas to get a deep understanding of youre class and game mechanics..what i want personally i more story content, the story to me was badly written with an anti climax ending battle,we should have more, instead of the shallow meanigless flavour of the month content…you dont have to do fractlas every single day,or pvp if you dont like it,i agree with you however that legendaries and ascend are not the end of the game but, they are near it,after it what makes a guy log in and play??granted you completed the map and all the quests have the ascended so you ruled the fractals..
Think about it for a minute: why bother to fix broken old content and class mechanics, when they can create shiny new content and RNG skins to draw in new players?
There’s all kinds of incentive to do what they’re doing now, and very little to fix the game.

Mmmm I’m not quite sure if you can call this “real” progression, the only thing I see in fractals is vertical progression, and sooner or later it will probably be required even in open world PvE.
Prepare yourself for a lot of 1 spamming and bad dodging enjoy

p.s. I’m not better than that guy, but this is not something challenging, just a boss with a loooot of hp and baka AI.

Fractals does not belong to GW2. it is there because of QQ.
why there was QQ?
GW2 character progression stops at lvl 30.
we don’t want the vertical progression
they had this the right way (horizontal progression ) in GW1 not sure what happened to them in GW2.

Actually I have absolutely no interest at all In PvP and because I am on a server that is completely useless on WvW it really isn’t worth playing (unless I pay to transfer I will never have my last couple of poi/vista). Yes Eredon Terrace has owned last place longer than people have owned the game. Fractals—hell, people say since I am a ranger—-not in our group—-even though I am all exotic and ascended lvl 80. The game needs some new blood at the top, new ideas and most of all absolute control from Ncsoft removed.
A lot of the whining on this forum is for grinding and it’s always from pve-only noobs. You basically want the things in this article: http://www.cracked.com/article_18461_5-creepy-ways-video-games-are-trying-to-get-you-addicted.html
…Maybe you should go and do something else instead of play all the time. You’ll enjoy your time in the game more as you play less and those legendary weapons will become less meaningful to you. If you want to be the hamster on the wheel then play a game like that. GW2 was NEVER promised as a generic hamster-on-the-wheel gear grind, it was supposed to be the opposite. It has some grindy aspects like achievements, colorful weapons, titles etc and that’s fine if you want them. But it was never about grinding until you die.
The answer is in game already. Guest to a busier server. It’s free. it’s easy..people do it all the time.
Because there really is a huge sign in game saying exactly where to go based on what area you’re playing in. Not. And it doesn’t even solve the true issue, it’s just a band aid cure.

Stopped reading after this point. You’re probably the guy who skirts round the zerg in WvW doing AoE and thinks himself skilful.
Despite all the nerfs and difficulty increases, Pertinent and Shelter aren’t too hard to camp. The real issue is the rest of CS is so boring which is why people stick to those places. Soloing CS on a necro is pretty trivial stuff though.
Southsun is harder by far since you usually need a nicely sized group for those Southsun camp events. I admit southsun stuff was sort of a fail given that settler’s equipment was very lackluster.
I have to disagree with you a bit…have you been to CS in the past two or three weeks? Not only are all the other nerfs (huge buffs to enemies) still in place, but the time between events has been hugely extended. IMHO it was this last change that killed the area and it is fairly recent. It you want to do the events in the Pent/Shelter area you have to stand around for 20 minutes or so between events….way too long.
As far as Southsun, it is completely unworkable, a ghost town. The events don’t scale, and cannot be attempted without a huge group. In that case I suspect it was just bad/half-azzed design.
Yes I have been to CS lately— I usually approach it at the end of my dailies, always with my pirate/traveler MF runes. (though not this week— I’ve just been WvWing). I know the downtime is a bit more noticeable, but you could always just let the camps fall. Don’t bother defending Jofast and just keep that section running indefinitely.
It’s certainly not 20 minutes by any means, from what I’ve seen. I understand it’s no longer what it was, but it’s not unplayable.
If you were talking about stuff like Grenth and Melandru I would see the point as those events are hard strictly due to the NPCs being utter garbage.
I agree with you on SSC though. That is plain unreasonable. I have not been back there since that event ended. If the 300% MF went away, I think it would not be very good at all.
for there you have been and there you will long to return.

Not at all, I’d consider myself a noob. That was for the people who play pve content and call themselves good. You can see what I mean in threads where someone believe himself skillful for killing AI- it just boggles the mind. The whining doesn’t come from pvp-whores because they’re actually playing the game instead of complaining about “lack of skillful content”.
They’re playing one part of it. A part, that has in fact, been even more neglected by the developers than PVE. Sadly.
All of the things everyone above has listed is WHY I play Guild Wars 2. Because in games where that’s the norm, I don’t end up staying.
Yep, the farmers and end game progression people are definitely unhappy, and they’re not shy to say so. Okay.
That doesn’t make Guild Wars 2 a bad game. That makes Guild Wars 2 a good game for some people. The very things you detest are the very things that I look forward too.
Take the complaints about bashing pinatas.
If you go and bash every single pinata to get an achievement all at once, it’s boring as hell. If you bash some pinatas every single time you go to LA within the time limit of the festival, you’ll probably get the achievment for it without grinding.
You could stand and farm projectors on day one when everyone was doing it, or just sort of roam around and get them WHILE playing. You don’t have to farm these things. Most of them you’ll get.
I get it. You want to sit in Orr and run the same event chains over and over. And I’m sad that you can’t do it. I’m not saying that in just either. I wish you could play that way…but that you can’t doesn’t make Guild Wars 2 a bad game. It makes it a game unsuited to your play style.
Where as Rift and WoW are totally unsuited to mine.
Well put.
I play only an hour, two hours per evening, and this is by far the most relaxed game i have played. Totally loving it.
Another huge issue with this game that should be addressed, the servers they have running the game, I know a lot of people have issues when in areas of Dynamic events and even more issues in WvW with skill lag, and the req for this game were clearly stated and I know my PC is way beyond those reqs, so the problem is obviously server related for so many to be having it. Especially when I can remember not having anykind of issues like this of anykind on games like DAOC with servers that had 2 times the amount of people, of L2 doing castle sieges, this is a server side problem and it has to be dealt with if they plan on adding in an expansion.
I doubt I see myself even buying the expansion if I cant use my skills half the time in the new events and WvW, it gets old fast Anet.
