Wait. I know raging is good as it requires less coffee intake over the course of the day but we don’t know the exact details yet. Whilst I am not exactly excited about a possible treadmill finding its way in either I am willing to wait for more details.

This. Hold back the keejerk respons and be patient… when we know more details, THEN we can get our pitchfork and torches and go on a complete rampage…

Yeah. I’m also worried about a possible gear treadmill but I already made the mistake in the halloween patch to think that Anet would hide all skins behind paid BLTC chest and was wrong. I’m going to wait until all is said and done to judge.

Let’s just hope the ‘infusion slot’ doesn’t require an item bought from the gem store. I’d like some quick clarification on the nature of those added stats and how they can be obtained.

Can you imagine the ‘Potential Scroll’ system from Maplestory being added to Guild Wars? (Having to pay to roll for random stats on gear) I would keel over!

I’m a bit two-sided on this. Personally, I don’t mind a little gear progression. It doesn’t surprise me much. I do wonder, however, how far this would go. Would we also see “Closer to The Stars” and “Just like Kormir!” gear qualities?

Jokes aside, I do wonder how Ascended gear will scale when it comes to lower level content. I can see why Ascended gear was implemented, but I can also see elitist groups or certain someones wanting to be carried through requesting for players to be in full Ascended gear. If the jump from Exotic to Ascended is not as significant at level 30 compared to level 80, then I might not mind much.

Then again, Ascended might be another word for “Legendary” but applies only to armor instead of weapons. The difference between Legendary and Ascended is a slight stat boost over Exotic, and the implementation of an Infusion slot.

Speaking of which, I do wonder what the Infusion slot might be. I’m hoping it does unique stuff to your skills, like having an extra Major Trait or modifying the rotation of Chain auto-attack ability, instead of something boring like 5% increase in a set stat.

While this is a change from their original philosophy, please don’t act like Exotic gear is a prize of any sort.

It comes easy. Hell, I had most of my exotic pieces on my main before I even hit 80.

That’s kind of the point. A lot of people don’t want another treadmill. they want easy to obtain max level gear so that you can enjoy content without having to worry about gearing yourself and “finishing” a character.

Here is to hoping that this is not the start of a horrible gear threadmill, but rather a simple and quick “infuse run”, and uses our standard exotics as pre-requirements. Otherwise like many others: I am done.

One of the few reasons I played GW1 so much and now GW2 is because all the grind is about the looks. If this changes I don’t see much to set it appart. Hopefully they will stay true to what they talked about in the GW2 Manifesto.

I hope that the ‘infusion’ is something that helps against monsters, but not against players in WvW.

Barely anyone uses the vs enemy type insignia, so they may as well put that in a second slot only for that type of effect.

To be fair there has been constant complaining in the past about lack of any sort of power-based progression of any sort (cough raids cough) and rewards.

I am sure they are fully aware of its profound impact on the game in all aspects ranging from balance to general gameplay goals and therefore are aware of its long-lasting consequences. They most likely are fully aware that a lot of us are playing because we liked the idea of no treadmills. The solution they have may as well an acceptable middle-ground.

I don’t have a problem with this, so long as the stats are only a very slight boost. It amazes me how much people obsess over 1 or 2% differences. You could probably have a huge number of tiers above exotic that are only 0.5% better each tier and people would obsess over getting them even though they make no practical impact on gameplay.

For all we know Ascended armour might be usable only within the Lost Shores dungeon.

^ This will probably be their answer to those who like to raid for new tiers of gear, but in this case, you’re grinding gear only to make this one dungeon slightly easier. If they want to take it a little further, the gear would also minorly help in the next dungeon.

so if they add 10 more lvls in next expansion you all leave too?

becouse lvl 80 exotics will be crap

idk if you followed this game prelaunch with statements like this.

Are you saying he’s wrong? Because they already said they would like to increase the level cap, which would most likely be done along with expansions.

There’s a lot of crap I’ll just shrug off, like the Arah event being bugged for weeks, the bots running rampant, the weird crafting economy where selling the item is worth less then selling the materials it took to make it, the slow response in fixing culling, the ridiculous exotic pre cursor prices that are inflated by gold buyers buying them and selling them on their sites.

But if this is turning into a WoW clone where we will have to keep getting the strongest items with every other content patch then I’m sorry but I’m out. That is something I never thought I’d say, but that’s where my line is.

Just so these people can play the game for another month then complain they dont have anything more to do and then this kittentarts over again and again… the game doesnt have a sub so what justification is there for this kitten?

Vertical progression systems like infusion or the lightbringer buff were ok but better general stats that apply to each and every area of the game definitely are not.

It’s not explicitly stated whether this is a new armour tier for everyone to get, with availability similar to the current exotics (which are still pretty easy to get!), or basically legendary armours under a different moniker.

I am very, very leery if it is the former. If it’s the latter, I won’t care, just as I don’t much care for legendary weapons. Either way, clarification is very much desired.

Before you all jump to conclusions about what this gear set actually does, maybe wait for A.net to release the update, and read about what it actually does?

Holy mother of cats, there is a litterload of QQ about something that hasn’t been implemented yet. And frankly, all of your vague threats about quitting the game if A.net does this/that is ridiculous. Just wait 4 more days and find out what the meaning of “slightly more powerful” is. And when you find out it gives you maybe +10 of each stat more, I’ll be there to laugh at you. Seriously, CTKO (Chill The Kitten Out)

Hell, perhaps mmorpg said that to get more clicks either way and they "understood " it like that while Arenanet meant something different at all. I’m quite skeptical since it’s pretty hard to misspell Kodan as Koden too.

Either ArenaNet learned that the average player requires a carrot, unless it’s super hard to obtain, then it’s the hardcore players need something above the average player, or the speculation is just speculation.

This is exactly right IMO – they already hinted at changes to the Legendary system as the goals are so “unreachable” – now they add this nugget about Ascended armor. Knee-jerk reactions to people leaving the game due to no “end-game” progression.

This. Hold back the keejerk respons and be patient… when we know more details, THEN we can get our pitchfork and torches and go on a complete rampage…

We can always act on the information we do have though, and from the sounds of it the ascendant armor was designed for this new dungeon. I imagine the idea is that this infusion slot is only going to be active in the dungeon and that it is so you can take on the harder bosses you encounter as you endlessly journey through the dungeon. As you progress you get more powerful slot fillers for the infusion slot. It’s gear progression in the traditional sense, but only applied to one dungeon and only requiring one slot to be upgraded. At least that’s my best guess given the article.

Of course we can wait for new information, but we do have some information on which to form early opinions, acknowledging that they are subject to change given future information. There is nothing knee jerk about this.

My opinion is that this is being put in to appeal to those that actually like the labor of doing dungeons over and over again for gear upgrades needed to do more dungeons over and over again. I dislike that the ascendant armor being created for this activity is coming with extra stats that will spill over into the other content not designed for linear stat progression. I have a general dislike for linear stat progression in MMOs, and think it creates more barriers to playing together.

Edit: One assumption about the infusion that I’m making is that “more powerful” refers to bigger attributes. This is a best guess assumption given that stats reflect our power currently, but it is possible that they treat the infusion slot like GW where there are certain mobs that cannot be killed (easily) without infused armor. So, in this case infusion becomes like a new stat. At level one infusion you are better able to take on some enemies in the new dungeon. At level two you can progress further. In future content patches where they add more to the dungeon you’ll need to get another level of infusion to continue, and so on it goes.

I think all will agree on , new models , YEAH cool, but new stats , cmn ….
The only reason many ppl came here is coz GW2 was promise of super cool pvp where gear is not grinded like crazy person for ages. Then you added super grind for legendary , thats imo, not fun but GRIND. And now new stats ?
I fell like someone really wish to ruin this epic game.
Why they dont see that game does not have to be grind to win. Look at LoL, f2p, no grind , super fun game.
GW2 have it all , no zilion fail skills, phenomenal graphics, it does not need grind at all. You dont need frikken new sets to make game fun to players, all you need is , actually make it fun. Add AI to bosses (this what we have is not AI its lame script) , add more options for spvp and more , open WvW.
Is it so hard to make skins , some of them at least, achievement dependent, some skins that come randomly.
Ill give u simple example.
Many ppl were frustrated by MK tower puzzle (i loved it ).
So many ppl failed to get up in over 100 try.
Why you didnt think like , lol lets make achievement for those ppl who fail, “Fat belly” and one they fail 100 jumps u give them armor skin that makes char look fat (town skin or w/e). It would be funny , ppl would not rage like mad if they failed so many times, and honestly it would be epic joke to see tons of ppl trying badly to fail in something.
There are so many good ideas on this forum , and even more , i hate gw1 , but most ppl here are actually gw1 fans and they , if nothing else deserve your attention. What you do here is wrong to those ppl who follow you for years , not to say its wrong to many others.

Whoa… wait a minute here.

ArenaNet – I want to be perfectly clear. This is a very slippery slope, and I (and many like me) will not hesitate to drop this game like a bad habit if you introduce new tiers of gear.

I will wait and see how the implementation of this is conducted, but you all need to understand the gravity of what you are about to do.

“Speaking of rewards, the Fractals of the Mist Dungeon will introduce the new ‘Ascended’ item type. This type is a bit more powerful than the Exotic quality items currently found in the game. There will only be a couple of Ascended quality items available initially, but some of the rarer Ascended items will also feature a new Infusion slot that will make players even more powerful so that they can tackle new challenges that ArenaNet plans to throw at them as they continue to expand on the dungeon over the coming months and years.”

Say what? I know nobody cares about my future purchasing habits or anything… but I have been a very vocal supporter of this game since the Betas, putting my reputation with gamer friends and my hard earned cash on the line to support Guild Wars 2… and I swear to you, when I read this I almost instantly decided to end my GW2 participation.

Understand what you are about to do, and make your choice very – VERY carefully here. I can’t speak for everyone, but I can speak for a few of them. We will leave and will never return.

PS – I am actually sort of sad and disappointed with you all right now. What a shame.

New armor is fine with me. I understand the community’s apprehension about GW2 becoming a new gear treadmill type game, but at the same time I’m already yearning for some new sweet new gear. I’ve had full exotic for ages, and it was a great achievement that I’m proud of, but I’d like something new to work towards in terms of armor.

Also, considering how easy it is to get armor (be it Exotic or Dungeon), I doubt ANet will make this gear much harder. It might be Aesthetic only, anyway. Like the Legendary equivalent of armor.

That Article made it sound like Devs are making next gear tier with stats better then both Exotic And Legendary stuff… and making it a “Must Have” for the new content. Here would be a good time to post a clarification… not wait until people are grumpy, refusing to let their friends see the game with out gear treadmill get a gear treadmill.

… only way our glorious overlords can make it worse is by making Ascended Items into random drops/chest rewards that are tradeable =) Then GW2 will be Exactly like that Other MMO, we all “know” and “love”.

People better get that armor and fast… wont be long until you wont get into the party with out having a full set of it… That is always 100% “fun”.

Why is everyone panicking? The time was always going to come where those that are stronger, more dedicated players get rewarded for being that way. Think of this as raising the level cap based on skill alone and you get the idea.

Also, why would the devs make it so that all dungeons apart from the new one give you obsolete gear? Expect either present dungeon rewards to change or the ability to upgrade exotics.

Arenanet, please give us more information. Are you going to add a gear treadmill now? Are you aware how much of your player base you are going to offend because of this? A lot of people are on the fence of leaving just because of that. Because they do not want to play another geargrinder MMO.
Give us more information and please, for Dwayna’s sake, be mindful of the reputation you have and how you are damaging your own credibility if you continue to pull that stuff off.

We had the same thing with legendaries, why do we have to go through the same debate again? Legendaries have been better. That was a bad design choice and now they are on par with exotics. Now whats that with ascended gear? That is not cool guys, you are trampling on the principles that you have built your reputation upon.

If you bring gear that drops which is automatically infused (NOT BETTER statwise!) like infusing gear in GW1 against the Mursaat, then its fine. but only AS LONG as there are recipies in the mystic forge and for crafting disciplines that allows us to create and upgrade our current exotic gear.
ANd please get rid of the extra stats. This is unnecessary. Really.

Infusion for specific types of enemies? okay, fine. As long as it is affordable and not grindy. But this is really kitten

Arenanet, please give us more information about this.
