Hi Adry
I semi-returned in April (I play another game as well as this one).
I also bought the infinite mining pick for around 10 dollars here. I have 7 alts but am expected to buy one for each if I want the permanent tool for each… (around 80 bucks for the picks and 240 for all 3 tools for each).

As a comparison, the other game I play 10 dollars just bought me the biggest expansion they have done to date.

Ultimately for me it’s about where I feel I get good value for my money and I’m sorry to say, it’s definitely not here.

They made those tools account bound so people wouldn’t have to buy one for each alt . . . And they gave refunds to people who DID buy multiples for alts before the change.

And that is a completely useless solution for someone with a lot of alts switching between them often with full bank space to sustain them.
Regardless 30 bucks for 3 tools v’s 10 bucks for a whole expansion…..

Well, I quit but check the forums every time new content comes out just in case theres a pile of threads saying “oh my god! this is awesome! good job anet!” but frankly its been nothing but “argh, no loot, argh, recycled content, argh, kitten megablob servers lag lag lag”. So…. they’re not really enticing me back if they’re just offering 70’s style tweed jackets at leather prices.

Regarding the gem store, I might be wrong, but I’ve read the gem store goes to NCSoft, and since they’re ANet’s publisher, it’s up to them to decide where money is allocated (ie. it doesn’t mean it’ll go back to ANet.
We know that NCSoft counts gem store sales in their earnings report so it’s most likely true.

In any case, neither supporting ANet with gem store sales nor leaving the game without feedback is helpful since neither gives the reason of why.

simply no. Those who noticed me around here know me as someone who criticized GW2 a lot in various aspects, yet defended the game against a lot of attacks, most of them unreasonable in my eyes. So spare me both that “fanboy” and “hater” thing.

The moment I picked up a new mmorpg I realized just how bad GW2 is. Which happens often once you escape the “oh, I have spent so much time there, cannot waste that”-trap. Just a few points;

a) rewards: yeah, I know, just play for the fun of it. Thing is, noone plays computer games like that. You play single player games to see the story unfold, to see that next level, for competition, etc. MMORPG are theoretically endless endeavours. And loot is part of the equation. In the end, it does not matter whether I attack Scarlet or some crab in Caledon Forest, the game mechanics aren´t that different. The "ahs " and “ohs” of being rewarded count in mmorpg – and anet is ridicously bad at delivering that. DR, play how devs want, you name it.

b) combat and builds: combat sucks, builds suck – I cannot deliver that more nuanced after having experienced a better game. Characters are different only in low percentages. Sure, half a second more of blind, an additional burn. In “that other recent game”, I build a skill deck like this: “oh, if I can remove some interrupt resistance from a boss with that skill, I can then add a freeze lockdown, port behind him and unleash my full barrage empty all clips skill” – or something completely different.

c) that casual thing: I´ll be honest – I hate casual players invading mmorpg, not that this is a secret if you followed my posts in the past. BUT GW2 is not casual friendly. It tantalizes all kinds of players, casuals probably even more so. You scrounge and scrounge and scrounge. There is no cool thing to find, no improving your character. In those “hardcore” games, well, you maybe won´t ever get that raid loot as a casual, but who cares? Some great drop from some more difficult mob, some dungeon played with your friends at your own pace, fun. GW2 sucks all excitement and fun out of gaming, for you casuals and for “hardcore gamers”.

Seriously, find another game, you will be relieved. Yes, that applies to you “casuals” too.

Concerning ‘key farming’: Do you even know that that is like? Rewards my kitten . It is not rewarding. You have better luck going to a casino.

And no, I don’t agree with his post – As I stated above. “I play for the fun of it.” Which is something he said “no one” does. But again, please continue your personal attack on me. Continue to pull up past remarks made by me as if it proves your point, and doesn’t just make you look like a giant kitten . Gotta say I’ve disagreed with people a lot on these forums but I’ve never stooped that low.

I have very little gold. I’ve never gotten a precursor or a legendary, nor do I ever intend to. I’ve never saved enough to craft anything ascended…. In fact the one time I came close to being ready to craft a full set of armor, I instead ended up selling all of my mats so I could contribute to a good cause (guild banning together to get a friend a precursor). I get my “lootz” over the long run. But its not something I’m farming 24/7 to have. It will happen when it happens.

In fact I get some heat from my server WBT activities because I don’t go to this champ or that champ, instead I have more fun going out of my way to have another champ ready for the rest of my guild. Why? Because THAT is how I have fun. I don’t give a kitten if I get a champ bag or not.

One major problem is that most of the valuables are locked behind a thick RNG wall.

The other big problem is that there is no viable way to farm anything in this game.

Hence people are starting to resort to other methods such as buy gems to convert to gold. And usually is it not a good sign when such thing start to occur in a game.

Every single mmorpg has some sort of farming that playing can do in order to obtain their desired objects (equipment or loot).

Arwen, do we know how many people are actually doing that? Is there a site where we can see the gem>gold conversion happening in real time? I’m curious about it. Personally I have a hard time putting money into a game that is letting its customer base down.

OK, so key farming is fun for you. What are you farming for? Fun? That doesn’t make sense. You’re farming for keys, then. What are keys? Rewards? Oh, fun?

Is key farming fun for me? No. Have I done it enough to know whether or not it was, for me personally? Yes. Does that mean that I continue to do it now, in the present, because its rewarding? No. Why not? Because its not fun.

Perhaps when you pull up my past comments, whether they be recent or otherwise, you should probably go with an example that shows that I’m currently and actively doing the very thing you’re accusing me of.

Hey, lets give it another shot, they have come closer and closer to perfecting their craft.

i see a bright future and no i am not a fanboy, never been. Either way, i think this game will become better than most of us expect it to become.

I see the opposite. The future looks bleak, especially with newer games coming out, and summer vacation for both kids and adults. The game since launch has strayed far from it’s original manifesto.

We can’t play our way anymore, especially with the new trait system, which severely limits new characters, and forces them to buy traits, or do tasks they don’t want to do.

I’m not even going to get into the “Beserker end-game” discussion either, which isn’t the fault of the playerbase, but Anet’s inaction on fixing it. So much for diversity of roles.

The SPvP revamp was made worse and more confusing. Now players start with their equipped weapons, or with ones in their inventory, with no guidance telling them they can also use vendor weapons (the same as original system but worse). Also, PvE loot in SPvP, to incentivize pve players, is always bad.

Then there’s the imbalance of Gem-Store items vs. In-game items. Just about all new content is pushed, and promoted, through the Gem-Store. The only new gear, or weapons, that have been released, is through Living Story achievements, and they aren’t even full armor sets. (i’m talking about acquiring them in-game, not gem-store-only items) I know they need to make money through the Gem-Store, but they need to do it less aggressive and be more subtle, otherwise the perception of greed, is what people see. Then there’s the RNG-lottery system, enough said.

I hate to say it, but the Living Story ruined GW2. The game had so much potential to expand on new professions, new zones, new races, new skills, etc. Instead, the resources were spent on experimentation.

My post sounds negative, but that’s because it gets frustrating seeing a great game being ruined as time goes on. There’s still hope with Season 2 though, which looks very promising. I just couldn’t agree more with the OP, that’s all.

Yeah (RNG). Starting to wonder how many players straight out purchased their legendary weapon of choice vs crafted – because I have put in just over 4 thousand hours of game play without seeing a precursor. Must be a nightmare trying to craft a legendary with RNG. Oh wait! forgot about the mystic toilet……

Now we are on mega server’s I have had the chance to do temple runs in Orr & champ fights. Generally speaking the loot is a lot of trash,; white & blue mats (was the loot nerfed?).

Today I crafted the corrupt avenger sword. One component required was the shaman’s etched avenger. Two ways to obtain it. Spend hours running around Frostgorge Sound hoping it will drop or buy it from the tp. Bought it from the tp as what is the point of having a crafting recipe if there is next to no chance of getting one of the components.

While I do not expect anything in game to handed to us on a plate – the frustration levels tend to rise.

I am no ESO fan but boy the pvp/wvw maps are freaking huge. The WvW in this game is beyond stale and stagnant. They are only interested in one thing…..getting you to pay to play. Skins I could care less if I killed another player with a twig or an awesome looking twig that blinks.
I don’t mind that so much since no monthly fee is involved. But seriously for a server vs server based game this is getting really old. No new WvW maps just the same old BS day after day after day.

Mudbone, you really need to reread through my posts on this thread. I was trying to make the point that just because someone farms, through whatever means or for however long, doesn’t mean that it is always the case and that they’re in the game for nothing but.

The kitten that I kept responding to was saying that because I had farmed keys at some point in the past, that it meant he/she could sum me up as a player that played for loot and not fun/enjoyment.

Do you want congratulations on your train activities? ‘Cause you aren’t getting one… But I wasn’t attacking any farmers of any kind. Do what you enjoy.

But yes, if we read on, we’ll realize how you didn’t find farming keys rewarding, thus not fun, and agreeing with the point you were trying to disagree with.
You didn’t find key farming fun because you found the loot unrewarding. Why are you agreeing with the initial point you’re supposedly disagreeing with? Why are you still attacking me while you stand on the same stance as him/her?!?!

No way… I bought this game at the release and I quitted this game since August 2013, till December I just logged in for a day or two monthly only to have a look at the living.
Today I just logged in the forum to have a look at the situation of the fanbase and I found this curious post with a title addressed to players like me.
This game has nothing to do with GW1 and Arenanet is a totally different company now.
I think I’m one of the few who remember the famous “Manifesto”. Now this game is based on a buy to play model, and real GW1 fans quitted to play long before me.
Sorry Areranet this was a big delusion from an old old fan. And the day you will announce GW3 I won’t be there waiting 4-5 years for the release and wishing to play the betas, publicizing you in the forums, building a big guild (oh, no one of my 200 members guild is still logging now).
Sorry, what this game has become is something totally different from what you let me imagine after totally loving GW1.

No, you’re not the only one. I actually watched it again just a couple weeks ago and it made me very sad. I even watched some of the other videos too… its shocking how much they’ve changed but it is what it is.

I’m the only one that logs in on the guild I started with at launch, the rest no longer play – and they were all members of a guild alliance back in GW1.

I too find it amusing how somehow farmers have been made to be the badguys when we used to be celebrated in other mmos because we provided a service that other players didn’t want to deal with. Now we have the stigma of being awful terrible people because there’s a campaign against us by an mmo developer that people are just hyped up so much over it completely shuts off their brains from seeing anything objectively.

Then we have to folks who like to act like theres nothing wrong with the rewards system in this game, because getting 5 silver for completing a map is normal in a game where it costs thousands of gold to buy a single legendary or 500 gold for a skin, or a single 10 magic find application, 1 600 karma drop of purple goo, and a coin that’s not used in anything but a tiny few recipes is considered “normal” now. Seriously?

When people who are rational bring up any of the facts about this title the image below is all we get. We point out the RMTAH central focus of the TP, the double RNG on bags and their loot, how DR has become so bad that it’s actually deleting items from boss bags/boxes now and replacing those items with Unidentifiable Items (greys), and how the only thing many of us see drop as rares off anything anymore is Piles of Putrid Essence after thousands of game hours while others just plain call us names and tell us to go elsewhere instead of dealing with the issues at hand or actually proving that we’re wrong about these concerns.

Having reread some of the posts in this thread, I can definitely see how toxic posters can also contribute to turning others off on this game.
Being constantly attacked just because someone misread a point another poster made (who was cementing his/her point along with an attack on me at every possible chance), just shows how much of a knee-jerk reaction some players have.
Having remembered a certain post in the CDI by a developer, I also noticed ANet also has such a knee-jerk reaction reaction to criticism, as well.

To reply to OP’s question, with another question: Is this what players should come back to? MMO’s are meant to be played with people, and when players just want to keep attacking you, well, that’s just shocking.
What a shame.

I recall you’d still have to spend alot of real money on gems, since the conversion rate at the moment isn’t very great, and legendaries cost 2000 gold at minimum, over 5000 at most.

Super casual, naah, you still have to play the game, since the stuff is not given to you on starting to play the game.

Unless you buy gold from gold sellers, that just takes renevue from ANet and can get your account banned, or reverted to some state, short or long before you receive gold from the illegal company…

Or just stolen by the gold seller, because of the things above, the chance that ANet doesn’t restore your account, since buying gold is violation of the rules, and promotion of Pay to win…

I’m a casual PvE adventurer, I enjoy combat, adventure and helping, but not farming.
I rarely do PvP or Hard PvE, unless it’s organized.

Hard to make gold if you cannot defeat a Dungeons and it takes a whole guild to even do them. Tried one the other day suppose to be in a level 1-15 area and the place was all level 50 creature and swarmed you not easy. I am not the type of person that parties up with over 15 people just to win a Dungeon I do not know people other then my wife and I will not play with people I do not know since everyone I had tried to party with has been rude and pushy.

wow, u guys went all the way on this huh? lmao to be honest i dont care, play dont play, doesnt matter to anyone. the game is good and i will continue to play it, that is all. if u dont like it cause it doesnt respond to ur tantrums, then o well, that is ur problem. the game will never and i mean never stray from what the developers want the game to be. the most ul get are tweaks for player convenience, but if u want a diff game, lol yea then bye. u spent too much money on it? maybe u should reconsider where u throw ur money at next time? honestly, its a freaking good game to me and many other people, once it stop being good i could care less and i too will leave, but i wont leave cause my kitten-fit demands werent met. i hope you have a better experience in some other game.

Then why did you start this thread? You obviously wanted other people’s opinions about why they quit.

Yes, it is pretty absurd to stop doing something you don’t like. Now go drink your prune juice.

pointless and irrelevant comment. if they stopped liking the game and want to leave, that is fine idc. i just happen to think some of the reasons are really absurd. that is all =/.

here i will sum up some of the QQs

“I NOT GET ENOUGH GOLD EVER UHHH I WANT 5K GOLD NOW UHH”
“dungeons too hard cant play cant survvie omg its so hard, i hate a challenge, why do i play vid games if im not even competitive!”
“i paid 150 dollars for gold the other day, omg gw2 is ripping me off, how does THAT GUY not spend 150 dollars for gold huh HOW COME?!?!?”
“jeez this game HAHAHAhahaHAHA not even 1/10 of GW1!! idk why its called part 2 hahhAHAHh, wow i came here to play the exact same crap i did in gw1 but with better graphics!”

these are some disappointing comments ive exaggerated on. anyways if the dungeons are honestly so hard, i dont understand how i did the hardest dun in the game and found it a good experience for me. i thought it was challenging and i praised anet on their efforts. if anything….making parties bigger so people cry less.

work hard for ur gold and give it time….u cant be rich overnight. everybody just sounds spoiled and lazy about everything….the game isnt hard, never been, and never will…the few challenges are there for our own fun, so get ur game face on or simply go play some mindless game that requires little to no effort.

a) rewards: yeah, I know, just play for the fun of it. Thing is, noone plays computer games like that.

I do. Please don’t speak for me.

I don’t.. he speaks for me.

sure, isolate a single vulnerable line out of my post and ignore the context. Whatever works for you. Good for you.

Whoa now, let the poster speak for himself/herself:

I’ve tampered with farming keys off and on. Its extremely time consuming.

i honestly quit a while back due to the lack of excitement at endgame….dungeons were easy, a 10year old could be rich in this game, and the bosses were literally stand in one spot and kill stuff. now they are fixing these things along with many other things little by little. they are doing a decent job and i appreciate it.

i am guessing that the ragers NOW are those that stayed for the easy going, children friendly game that required little to no effort to accomplish anything.

dont get me wrong, too much of a challenging and u create a ridiculous learning curve that will DESTROY the entire community, but a little bit of a challenge doesnt hurt anybody. i like what i am seeing, except for a few things they need to work on, i like the direction the game is going in.

Uhh…ok?
Was just pointing out the discrepancy between what the poster said and what he does (or did, as he says).
In any case, the more he posted, the more he was agreeing with Algreg’s point whilst still claiming he’s not agreeing with his point. I dunno what’s going on anymore.

@Adry: Yes, any and all comments can be made to sound absurd if you make them all appear as if they’re being voiced by a child having a tantrum. I hope nobody shrugs off any game disappointments you may have in the future like that.

With that said – I can see your point when we, as the player base existing on these forums, sound spoiled and lazy almost all the time.

Expectations are a kitten.

I’ve been “loyal” to this game since headstart and never even wanted to try another game. At this point, I am left completely unwilling to play thus I simply log in to do daily in the fastest possible way and leave. It dreads me because I love this game, the lore and all, but I am tired, I lost faith in devs, I’m bored to death because I’ve truly played every single side of this game way too much. And I am yet to see their promises to be kept.
The only way they have to regain my trust and the trust of other players who left is not with good words and purposes but facts. Show me you are actually bringing something good to this game and not more meaningless nothing, then something might change. Truly, if LS2 is going to be alike LS1, I will say farewell to this game with the greatest disappointment ever.
Words from a mad-lover-fan-girl of this game who even pre-purchased it.

And that’s why loyalty to a game isn’t the greatest idea.

And that’s why loyalty to a game isn’t the greatest idea.

Loyalty towards anything or anyone has its risks. But you’re right, loyalty to a company and game is probably the riskiest.
