I didn’t get a portal drop, it was only a forum bug.

I got mine after doing about 8 full Silverwastes runs. Started my 9th and while clearing Red Base I got one from a little vine. Makes me happy since I have Mystery Illness X that has me in a lot of pain which means I can’t marathon right now, but I wanted to get into Beta so badly

Seven hours tonight (so far) and four hours yesterday. This is beyond discouraging.

Also, and this is just my humble opinion, but people being able to get MULTIPLE portals is beyond stupid. They’re literally barring someone else from getting access to the beta.

I don’t think it works like that. There isn’t a finite number of Portals available. They will just keep dropping until ArenaNet feels enough accounts have the marker to fill the Beta. It doesn’t matter if one player loots 20 of them; it only shows one account.

You can happy face all you want, but randomly selecting people when there are dozens, if not hundreds who would and are jumping at the chance to be beta testers is absurd. You’re giving beta keys to people who do not care at all and will not be participating in the closed beta when there are people who would love to participate. The developers should be very glad that I am not running the studio because whoever created this ridiculous event would be taking a week off, sans pay.

About six hours probably? I spent a couple of hours in the Silverwastes on the 28th, basically did nothing on the 29th, did Dry Top for a couple of hours last night, then Silverwastes for a couple hours tonight and got a portal from the bonus chest from a labyrinth event completing. (Not a labyrinth chest, mind you, but the bouncy pop-up chest.)

2 hours (with a bit of afking as well), did SW breach/Vinewrath a whopping 3 times and got it. Was very much so surprised, and I think everyone in my instance hated me. And this was maybe 4-6 hours after the patch hit

metric tons of hours on the first day, one hour on the second day, scream of joy when it happened on a random mob during a random event, then buggered off to Orr to join a shore farm train, get Berserker’s Power trait, and give the game a little rest.

Then I continued celebrating the GW1 birthday by busting out a vintage “Prophecies mode only” character and running it through most of Nightfall for proofs of legend.

42h of sw, farming events like crazy, and now at around 3k event chests, still nothing, would be pleased to get an option to buy this shi*-.- sw is a boring place for me now maybe ill try drytop…

Got mine Thursday night from a reward chest. I was farming nearly all day Tuesday and Wednesday, and…half of Thursday? So..I’d say 20+ hours of farming easy.

got mine just now from a dry top event chest after about 100 events in sw and dt. sadly the item is not in my inventory because my inventory was already full when i opened the chest( i would have loved to keep it as a trophy

About 16-20 hours total so for and I’ve got 3 of them. If only my luck worked on precursors

I went to Dry top, as I couldn’t bring my self to go back to Silverwastes after grinding out the armor. Spent about an hour there, nothing. Next morning before work I went to Silverwastes and did 2 of the Vine Wrath fights on the west edge, second chest had the portal. in total about 45 minutes in Silverwastes.

Still trying here.
Unfortunetly I can’t join up big events (ex. Silverwaste’s Legendaries) due to stupid c000005 errors I am getting.
Currently “fighting” the errors with marvelous GM WhiteNoise (somebody buy that guy a coffee and a muffin, he’s had it rough with my issue :P )

Seeing as some people are getting multiple portals drop with just a few hours of grinding and the abysmal droprate and people that have been at it for 30 hours or more still don’t have one, makes me think they flagged selected accounts to be able to get portals dropped.

Your belief or disbelief doesn’t change the fact that random is random. I got lucky this time and got a portal drop. For the last beta, I wasn’t one of the lucky ones, because my email wasn’t drawn out of the hat. There is absolutely no reason they would flag my account in particular; they don’t know my history with MMOs or any past beta experience I’ve had, my rig is middle of the road and my operating system is standard. From a technical standpoint, I am identical to thousands of others. I have a good number of hours played and a decent achievement point score, but again, thousands of people can say both those things.

But, you know, go on believing if that’s what makes you happier! Goodness knows these conspiracy theories pop up literally everywhere there’s RNG, because there are always people need to assume it wasn’t just bad luck so they have something to direct their disappointment at, instead of shrugging and letting it go.

Answering the question:
I started right away when the update came. I think I’ve spent something aroung 4-5h per day in SW (yay national holiday and free time!) and got it hour ago killing a trasher while defending builder at blue.

On a side note:
I have a horrible luck with drops. Really, really horrible – so I didn’t even think about dropping it. I went there because FINALLY something is happening on this map. I like it and I’m glad that there are people and we can finish the event.

Aaaand it’s a good farm :P Even if I wouldn’t get the key I’d be happy, because this “lottery” earned me enough gold and materials for Ilya :P

“I’m naive and living in my bubble full of butterflies and rainbows!” Contrary to what you believe, people don’t always tell you the truth. You can point and pull the “conspiracy-card” all you want, it doesn’t make your argument any stronger.

As someone who has studied psychology, I can tell you when we perform tests, we don’t tell the participants the testing conditions they are in. My theory, which is complete speculation, is that Anet (randomly) selected their beta participants and enabled the drop for those accounts. At the same time, they’re testing whatever they’re testing with people filling up SW and DT maps. Feel free to e-rage some more, though.

Fortunately for me, I spend all my free time in SW anyways, so this was just bonus incentive…1 after about 20 hours, a 2nd the next day….back to SW, but not for another key(unless I happen to get one).

I got mine as a drop from one of the dusts or devours that attack Haze during his escort event in Dry Top just an hour ago. Most of this week I was trying to get the portal in The Silverwastes but got burned out on that zone and wanted to finish collecting the recipes for the amber weapons from DT.

So many hours wasted trying for this thing. So many hours. And what do I have to show for it?

Nothing but a Zap (https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Zap) from combining other random drops and rewards from events. I guess that puts me closer to making my own Legendary, but it’s no Portal.

I played a few hours a day from the day it was first possible to get the tokens.

Got one off a Terragrif (part of a pack bull event) a few hours ago.

IF you are lucky enough to have a loot blessed account these things drop like junk. One of the lucky guildies (3 precursor drops) already has 4 of these portals.

If you don’t have a lucky account you will never get one.

well, after ANOTHER 3 hours of mob killing, nothing. Screw this.

Spent about 1.5-2 hours (in total) on Silverwastes a few days ago — didn’t get anything.

Got the beta drop within moments of zoning into Challenger Cliffs (Dry Top location) during the “Prevent skritt from stealing supplies” event; I think the only foes I killed were 1 or 2 skritt and a Mordrem Vile Thrasher; I think it was the latter that dropped the key.

So, i’m wondering… for those who got it with almost no effort at all. what did you do? i’ve done over 65 VW/breachs, that includes killing stuff in the middle and going events.

If a developer see’s this i ask this, what is the actual drop rate? like what is the % of the drop.

I have to ask, does magic find affect the chance of getting a portal? If so my farming of Dry Top for geodes is probably counterproductive..

Close to 20 hours of running SW over three days. I got mine off a pack bull escort chest just as breach triggered.

I’d love to hear some clarification from ArenaNet on this issue. What does it signify that someone can loot more than one Portal to the Heart of Maguuma? I have to admit that seeing people link that they’ve gotten 2, 3, and even 4 portals when I haven’t seen one drop really bothers me. Of course I’d like to get one, but I’d think that once someone loots the portal, that stops them from looting another because they’ve already unlocked the access to the beta on that specific account.

Second VW event ever. Had been in silverwastes less than an hour. Honestly was not even there for the portal as I was achievement hunting and gathering mats for making ascended/legendary gear.

Guild member yesterday got 2. One after the other. First for the shaky chest after Vine Wrath, then the 2nd killing an exp mob on the way over to one of the champs. No one else in the guild’s gotten any.

Ugh, that’s the worst part of this RNG part.. people will get multiples, and they can’t sell or give away the extras or anything.. just vendor for 25 silver and doesn’t that mean someone else doesn’t get an invite, are they limited?

But I wanted to get into the Heart of Thorns Beta. Test new things, find new bugs. Make it the best launch possible. To be able to play-test the Beta while wearing my Heart of Thorns t-shirt and Heart of Thorns Badge (thank you MMORPG.com and A.Net for those beauties).

Burned thru a Birthday Booster so I’m obviously over 24 hours trying to get this. No luck yet.

I popped a celebration booster prior to zoning into Challenger Cliffs (see my early post); this was on my warrior when I got the drop; was using a hammer, slamming those skritt/Mordrem Thrashers (3-4 foes at once). Don’t think the CB helped, though it upped my MF passed 325%. But if you are going to farm for the beta key, I am guessing more AoE damage would increase your chances.

I farmed about an hour on dry top then went to silverwastes for 2-3 hours and read forums while I farmed, the threads got me so down on it that i stopped after those few hours and decided that I wouldn’t farm just for the portal so I wouldn’t be so disappointed if I didn’t get one, so I decided I’d go to dry top the next day and farm for ambrite weapons.

I got it 10-20min after logging in, got it on my guardian killing the inquest that spawn during the crystal event, no boosts.

Kinda makes me wonder if it’s affected by DR…

I think am gunna need a good massage after farming SW so much lol, everywhere is numb.
Grats to the guys who got one, but for me it seems like an impossible dream, probably been farming up to 3-12hrs a day (what ever I can fit in) and still nothing.

… and a guildie got 2 keys – withing 15 mins???!!!

A guildie of mine has been trying for 57 hours in both DT and SW. I hit up DT for about 2 hours yesterday, and that’s all I’m willing to do. Shrug.
