Trait hunting is terribly unfun
my rerolled ele was created after the patch. All the desired trait are unlocked through normal play excluded the one required to go eotm which i am not interested in. I don’t even hunt my trait i just do it normally. i don’t even undetstand why they have changed some map completion requirement into killing some boss.
When my new ele reached lv80 he got all the desired traits and about 40% map completion. I like the new system more.
Absolutely bone-chilling tale, my friend.
Now imagine doing that for in excess of 300 skills, and you have GW1. Enjoy not using the Wiki for that one.
Oh yeah. The elite skills in Guild Wars 1 were especially fun to get. Go to area. Hunt down boss. Kill him with your crippled skill bar (you had to equip a skill on your skill bar to take the skill from his dead body, and you had to go into the area like that. Repeat for all the many elites skills in the game if you are going for the title.
At least in gw1 it was a matter of going into a mission and fighting the enemy. You didn’t have to wait at some part of the mission wondering whether the boss would spawn or not

That’s right, you just had to zone in and out a bunch of times hoping the boss with the skill you needed even spawned, or spawned close to the gate instead of halfway through Snake Dance, so you wouldn’t waste your time fighting your way there to see that… he still isn’t there.
GW1 skill hunting… >.< It was ok doing it for one character…across all the expansions…
I actually thought skill hunting was pretty rad, it’s like a unique bounty/treasure (multiple, in some cases) on a per-zone basis.
Trait hunting seems lackluster to me, however, because traits really aren’t that impressive. Elite skills were game-changers while traits are… skill cooldowns.
like the idea, but not a fan of the execution (i say this a lot about Anet)…….since the requirements send you to content 10-20+ lvls higher than the level you are when you can get the trait.
you end up just buying the traits from vendors as you go…which is fine if you’re an experienced player who knows what traits to take and has a bankroll. for a new player, though, the system is HORRIBLE and discourages experimenting with different builds.
they need to tweak the requirements. for example: all major adept traits should send you to lvl 30-40 zones/events.

I agree with you about the bad design and it would be nice to have more in-game resources to figure things out. However, I’m not sure why you would rather waste your time sitting around a zone waiting for something to happen than take less than a minute to look it up online and get on with your game. I guess I just can’t relate to people that aren’t willing to use the resources available just to prove a point that only affects them. Either that or I’m too old and remember the days of games like Everquest where you didn’t really accomplish much if you didn’t do your research.
This just highlights how boring and crappy most events are, it just leads to the majority of zones being dead even with megaservers active because nobody wants to do them so then it’s even worse.

I could be wrong but that might be a hint that you should branch out into other trait paths if you can’t get the ones you want because the requirement is too high.
Still, I’m not really familiar with the woes of unlocking traits at lower levels yet, and I do pretty much agree it sounds dumb.

I think the idea of trait hunting is good and should have been there from the start. But it should not be behind time-gated content. It’s more something for what you can always do (or well almost always, if you have to kill an specific mob it might just be killed so you might need to wait a bid for it to re-spawn) also traditional quest (lines) would be good for this.
The current event system might not be so great for it.
Think if the trait hunting system was introduced at launch we wouldn’t have the QQ we have now. Personally I view traits as a buff to a character, not a nerf if you don’t have them all. I don’t mind questing for the ones I want.
I’m also against all event timers… the megazerg, champ trains, and event camping is bad enough as it is. Don’t care to see it made any easier for them.
