Hey there folks, I just wanted to share this method of transferring ascended weapons/legendary/back pieces between characters.

You will need:

  • Ascended/legendary/back piece that is soul bound to a character.
  • 1 Transmutation Crystal
  • 1 Transmutation Splitter
  • 1 White quality item of the same type (Level 60+ if you want to keep sigils)(Sword/Sword, Etc.)

Steps:

  1. Transmute the look of the ascended weapon/legendary/back piece onto the stats of the white, thus making an account bound item with the look of the item you want to transfer.
  2. Take the now account bound item to the bank and deposit it into an empty spot, change to the character that you want to transfer the item to, and withdraw it on that character.
  3. Use the transmute splitter on the now account bound-white-item. this will split the white, ascended weapon and the sigil apart, giving you the legendary/ascended/back soul bound to your new character.

Misc:

  • If you do not currently have any transmutation crystals or transmutation splitters, this will cost you 500 gems, 300 for the splitter and 200 for a pack of 5 crystals (this is still cheaper then crafting a new one)
  • You will loose your +5 versatile infusion, so you will have to have another 75 fractal relics to attain another one, or two for 2 handed.
  • White items are chosen as the base for the stats because they are account bound, and will allow the transfer between characters.

Convoluted, and somewhat costly. Still a heck of a lot better than crafting a new one.

It does work with legendaries as well. I’ve done it when switching my Howler from my ranger to my warrior. But do remember that you will lose any infusions you have on the weapons.

Yes you can. I have not tried it with jewels but if you can transmutate them more than likely it works.

Jewels do not have skins so this does not work for them. I also used this method to move my legendary.

Does transmuting always make the item acc. bound? and does the quality always have to be white?

I have an ascended Fractal Capacitor (upgraded fully), and was wondering if transmuting to a 80 exo/rare back instead of a white would work. Pretty sure I read it was not possible, but maybe it was before splitters came out. Thanks

If the item you transmute onto is soulbound, the result is soulbound. Most people just don’t know that there are also white backbraces that come from BLTC backpack skin sets.

Just go on the TP, buy e.g. a Tiger Charr Backpack Set for about 2g, open it and get an account bound white backbrace with no stats and a plush backpack skin. Use the white to transfer using the above method and sell the skin back for 2g.

It works fine on getting an engineer backpack on another class, would assume it works for capacitors too.

Does the Legendary gets back its original name when splitted ?

Yes, it is the exact same item as it used to be. Retains its stat-switching ability too.

  • Just letting you know I have reformatted and updated the post, it is now easier to read and set out better. I also added in a Misc section with a few bits and pieces of information which may be useful.

Yes, this should work with armour as well.

However, if you are just after the appearance for the armour, then don’t bother with the splitter, just use 2 crystals. But if you are after the stats of the armour because its ascended, use a splitter once you withdraw it on your other character.

Also, if you have the ascended armour and have already transmuted an appearance over the top of it, you will need to use a splitter first to give the ascended armour its looks back, then transmute those loose to the white item.

Tried this just now with an Ascended Weapon and I am getting:

1 Exotic Item with the Skin I put onto the white item
1 White Item
1 Rune

At least that’s what the Transmutation Splitter puts into its Review – so I would not get the ascended Weapon I used previously out of it.

However, my ascended weapon was re-skinned so I assume I would have to use a splitter on that one first and then try it again with the steps you pointed out.

Edit: Worked perfectly fine with using a Transmutation Splitter first, then the Crystal, swap it to another character and use another Splitter.

Might want to add that to your OP as I am sure I am not the only one who put a skin on the base ascended weapon model
