So, in the old system if I got a new item with better stats I could transmute those stats into my old item, keeping the appearance and the upgrade of the old item. In the new system the old item is entirely replaced and I just slap the appearance I want on it, so how are upgrades handled?

Do I have to actually spend money, real or ingame, in order to purchase an extractor just to get my upgrades back to use on the new item? For the “convenience” of all my skins I lose the functionality of free upgrade transfers?

Unfortunately, yes. But this downside (and it is a rather large one) is nothing compared to the advangates of the wardrobe, so overall we are on the plus here imo. But it is a shame that ANet has to give us a delicious cake but still slap us on the face…

Don’t say it’s “nothing”. Good runes are really expensive these days and not being able to move them is not “nothing”.

Plus, the cost of an extractor is higher than any rune in terms of gold.

What surprises me, though, is the seeming lack of posts about this specific topic. People are up in arms over the loss of town clothes and for Megaservers, but the loss of major functionality in gear has just gone by the wayside.

This is one of the major reason’s I stopped playing GW2, its basically forcing you to spend more! Im also shocked that more people haven’t kicked off about this

and in fact sum’s up what they are all about, cash shop and driving you to use it!

I posted about this a few days ago, asking how I can get my pricey runes out of karma armor. Sadly I lost them cause I wanted to delete the character (I had 2 80s and didn’t need more than 1, of the same class). I really can’t believe there was no forsight in this by the developers, but I bet they know of the issue and it’s not high on the to do list atm.

Simply put there should be an NPC that extracts components that players installed for game money as a cost, not gems. It should not work on items like runes that came with Karma armor, but should remove player installed runes from Karma armor, etc.

Hey dude you are walking into a wall.

Black Lion Salvage Kits. I use those, and I usually get enough of those from dailies for removing runes/sigils.

There was a huge thread about this when the wardrobe came out. And those who had committed high price upgrades to unsalvageable armor still post about this. But it’s been over three months, nearly seven since they added extractors to the Gem Shop and pulled most city only clothes (they knew what was coming).
