Unattainable ingame armour sets

Ferguson’s Crossing [MAIN]
I too am disappointed that while NPCs get the beautiful, shiny Nobleman’s plate armor, we can only get the ugly, tarnished version. It’s a design choice that doesn’t make much sense to me.

Well at least that will eventually be a non-issue once they release the changes allows using PvP gear(at least the look) in PvE.
Well this is just my opinion but I actually think the fiery armor sets are cool, yes they are used before without the fire, but they still look cool. However, some of the other sets especially that heavy nobleman’s armor would be awesome. They should at least release it through the gem store.
ive seen all of the armors (except the gw1 one) be worn by players, you got to check better and i think the heavy one is a dungeon armor as well

The OP mentioned 3 armors.
The heavy one is CM armor (although the chest has been modified).
The second one (Anise) was only seen in a mesmer preview video.
The third one is only shown on NPCs in DR and in Queensdale.
So you only saw 1 of those armor :p.
Not to mention the different cultural sets worn by NPC, which one could brush of as would be town clothes.
I am hoping someday for the attached armor… It is the Shaman Armor worn by the Raven Shaman in Hoelbrak (among others.) I want for my Necro…(drool)

And the CM armour has dirty textures instead of nice polished one all the NPCs wear… including the one that sells the dungeon armour. Talk about slap in the face.
Where i can get that light armor in right? Two AC armors, one vigil and one www badge armor, but i don’t have any idea what that light armor is.

You can’t, it’s armor we’ve been asking for since beta. There is an item code for it, likely datamined, that is one code for the whole outfit (warning — only shows on human females, you’ll get either undies or nudity on anyone else)

NPCs should have unique armor sets. It makes it more immersive. Could you imagine if everyone could acquire the same armor as the major NPCs in this game? It would look ridiculous.

It’s more immersion breaking if we don’t get access to it. For a game that hails itself as all about cosmetic end-game then we should have access too. In fact, we already have MANY major character’s armours available to us already so your statement cannot work. We run around in ancient Orrian armour but we can’t wear polished CM armour created by SIMPLE craftsmen, now THAT, is immersion breaking.

The Pale Tree is the only major NPC which doesn’t fit in acquiring its dress. Jennah ? She isn’t the only NPC with that dress.
Aside from Anise, who is a big exception considering the initial version of her armor was shown during a mesmer preview video, no major NPC has unique clothes/armor. You can even dress like the Risen High Wizard…
The most plausible theory so far is that Anet didn’t have enough time to polish everything and armor was far down their check list. If you look a bit more closely you’ll see how many things are off in this game when it comes to armor.
IE :
-the masquerade and tribal sets being exclusive to PvE/PvP, amongst other things
-the icons not resembling the armor piece, especially when it comes the shoulder pieces (and did anyone else notice how the Armageddon skirt icon looks way closer to the phoenix skirt than the Armageddon skirt ?
-the terrible textures of certain armor compared to the rest (hi light armor AC shoulder pads).
-the lack of acquisition equivalence between the 3 armor classes (for example, in PvE rare light armor belongs to the Conjure set, while rare medium armor belongs to the Rogue set which is also sold by karma merchants, except for the mask which belongs to another set…)
You can brush it all off by saying “meh details, who cares”. Except that this game was supposed to be about cosmetics (and I’m leaving the talk about the actual armor looks for another thread).

You might be right, but it still doesn’t negate the fact that it’s more immersive, when certain major NPCs, have unique armor. Royals, Knights, etc., had their armor customized. They were recognized and distinguished for their rank. Other MMOs do this, and it gives their major storyline characters more depth. Since most people use WoW, i’ll use that example. Just look at Sylvanas. She’s a unique NPC model, with unique armor. Imagine if she was wearing a tier 12 set, or whatever tier it is now. She would just look like every raider with that set.

That’s a matter of opinion, not fact. It’s immersive breaking not being able to acquire armours that every other no name shmuck NPC is wearing. In fact, it can be equally immersive when major NPCs are wearing the uniform armour supplied by their organisations; wearing their own gear breaks codes, ethics and representation depending on their rules.

The player character is the Commander of the Pact and one of the vanquishers of Zhaitan. The PC is recognised and distinguished for their actions. Let’s not forget that the PC can pretty much be a Grandmaster Crafter and craft basically anything they want.
Other MMOs do this, and it gives their major storyline characters more depth.
The only thing that gives characters and stories more depth is writing not aesthetic.

That didn’t seem to bug anyone in WoW before their models got revamped to be unique. Sylvanas was rocking cloth vanilla Scholomance gear and she was still looked iconic. There are ways to make a character look iconic without resorting to unique models.
i would love for some of those armors to become wearable options instead of reworked skins. The Raven shaman one is very beautiful, and it’s sad that it’s not available.

Yea, I have a commando helm on my thief in PvP and an anonymity hood in PvE…
I just wish I could carry the same look across the game. If I had a choice though, I’d rather have the anonymity hood in PvP.

What doesn’t help immersion is acquiring NPC clothes you have no business acquiring, such as the Pale Tree because it’s the Pale Tree and her dress/face are unique to her because Sylvari’s clothes grow from their body (or something like that).
Acquiring Logan’s gear or any other member of DE, which are major NPCs however is perfectly reasonable. And the fact that they are all racial T3 makes sense. Same goes for the order armors. It wouldn’t make sense if their leader wasn’t wearing their own organization/race armor (“Oh yeah you should totally were that. Oh me ? Uh…”)
Getting Anise’s clothes ? Why shouldn’t we be able to ? We can already dress like Logan and other NPCs are wearing Jennah’s dress.
In GW1, players complained about not being able to acquire NPC clothes, especially when EotN launched and all the heroes got great armor. They said they learned from that and in GW2 we’d be able to get whatever NPCs are wearing.
…
It also makes sense that people would wear clothing that looks like what leaders have. It’s called trend setting. One singer wears an oversized blazer and suddenly all the guys on a city street have that style.
Change a couple of details and voila, you’re wearing something inspired by a trendsetter. The code I linked above has a feather bustle instead of Anise’s skirt. Much as I prefer her skirt to the feathers, at least that’s a change so the NPC remains unique.

You might have a point if there was any consistency to what is and is not allowed.
Anise’s armor is not allowed but Logan’s is?
Since we already CAN acquire the same armor as some major NPCs they might as well make it for all.
