Unidentified Dyes Over-corrected...they're gone!
I noticed this too. I usually get several dyes when starting an alt and I haven’t seen a single unidentified dye since the correction.
Perhaps they curbed the drop rate to make up for the fact a TON dropped in only a matter of hours?
Balancing the books, so to speak.
I got 4 last time I logged in. Its just RNG bad luck.
Coincidence + placebo I guess, I got several since then. Humans are just not good at judging statistics.

Now without math, anyway.
You guys are probably right. But everyone said the same RNG thing when it was broken.
Well I never got anything good from the unidentified ones anyway. I usually just buy the cheapo colors I want. Most are under 50copper.
I got one this morning on one of my low lvl alts, but yeah I only seem to get them less than half as much as before, which is thankfully made up for by the price increase
I’ve gotten a few while farming in Orr since the change. Maybe 1 every hour or so. Seems fair enough.
Yeah, there not gone there just back to how they used to be.. BUT, we cant really say till a thourough examination is done
Tis only what you can do for all
I think Ive seen one, yes one, unidentified dye drop since they fixed the high droprate and Ive been playing quite a bit. They definitely overcorrected it.

Game over
Actually it seems like they overcompenstated the drop rate seeing as unidentified dyes cost about 7s each on TP, while they were near 3-4s range before whole fiasco with improving drop rates.
TP is driven by supply/demand and seeing how demand is constant and supply drops (http://www.guildwarstrade.com/item/20323) it can only support this theory. Even rare dyes like celestial and abyss cost 7g now when I remember they were 2-3+g. So yes, this isn’t only a hunch or a bad luck, its pretty much possible.
they are still out there, over the course of couple hours playing normally (non farm) i most always get one, i get few from mobs, and a couple from harvesting plants (not sure if that is different than before, maybe i just never noticed) and some in WvW.
Got a few. Making them a bit more valuable may be a good idea.
Or maybe several people are going for bifrost.

I get them about as much as I did before the patch that made them common.
Same drop rate as before the rainbow patch.
RNG – I played a ton the last two days.
My ranger landed 6 of them (kept track as I was banking to sell)
My mesmer who played equal time got zero
They were both just doing random heart stuff in the 40-50 range.
Considering I bought a bunch of them just before the fix, I am ok with this.
How to Condi Reaper on a budget
Everything I say is only in reference to PvE and WvW.
when the prices were in the 2s-3s range, i must have bought about 500 dyes easy, got the gambling bug bad going for the rare blacks and whites. i actually got a good number of them and relly filed out my dye chart in the process. if i tried that now, it woudl easily bankrupt me. conversly, if i held them and sold at 7s, i’d be much better off than i am now.
My new alt hasn’t had a single one drop yet, admittedly only level 15, but it’s the first time I haven’t seen one drop whilst clearing the start zone.
One a side not, did they adjust the BL chest drop rates? I currently have 2 keys and no chests on the same character. I usually get the complete opposite and have a ton of chests and no keys.
I’m still getting them the same as before… You also get them from random things like gathering cooking ingredients and from chopping wood sometimes. Bit surprised at how much the price of Celestial has gone up tho :I
dyes drop rate feels like same as it used to be
but I have a fully-finished mf set now, but didn’t before
i still get a few every now and then o.o
Ok, well, I guess it’s just me then. And for the record, I wasn’t even logged on during the time they dropped extra, was out of town, so that is not skewing my view.
RNG is RNG i get at least 5 at day still. Got transactions of them too lol
Probably all in your head, but even if they were at a lower drop rate that wouldn’t necessarily be a bad thing. Dyes are dirt cheap as it is. They were supposed to be “special.”
I’m getting about the same amount as I did before, usually one or two a day.
Well i did another alt few days ago and my first dye dropped at lvl 23. I don’t know if it is a glitch or just bad luck but i felt it too, the drop rate is kinda low.
I’ve gotten a grand total of ONE since they “fixed” the dye drop rate. Was really liking the drop rate before that “fix”, since I was actually getting dyes. Drop rate needs to go back before that “fix”, because at the rate they drop, I’ll never even finish one characters dye panel (and don’t even mention buying them on gem store, which I’ll never do, or from TP where I would have to spend all my gold just to get one, let alone try to get Abyssal), let alone all my alts.

I am fine with the fix, especially if it bleeds over into making less common dyes worth more… I have vendored whole bunch because between the list price and the trading post cut it isn’t even worth it to sell many common dyes on the trading post.
7-10 gold for a really rare dye like Celestial or Abbysal is not that bad…. hell back in GW1 black dye was usually around 8-10 platnium. Gold is a lot easier to get in GW2 than platnium was to get in GW1. With so many near-rare color options it would be easy to find a similar and much cheaper placeholder while one saves up the gold to get the rare ones.
You have what you have because you do what you do.
I still get one every couple of hours of game time
It’s RNG, because I got 3 last night in 3 hours of play.
My anecdotal experience since the fix leads me to believe they are more rare now than they are supposed to be as well. Enough so that they should probably take a look at it and confirm they didn’t introduce a bug when fixing the drop rates.
It’s obviously not working as before because we wouldn’t have unid dyes costing 7s currently but in 3-4s range. If everyone would be getting the same amount of dyes and it still doubled in price then I guess a lot of people started working on Bitfrost
There are a lot fewer bots flooding the market than before.
I noticed that too. I guess more players are playing with dyes now?
High demand = Price goes higher.
I got 4 from “Diessa Plateau” yesterday. All within a 2 hour period. I got 1 from a “story mission” in Queensdale that took about 5 minutes. After that, I decided to run around in “Orr”, and received NONE in a 3 HOUR PERIOD. I’m thinking it’s all based on location. I would expect that the “higher end” dyes drop more often, if not entirely, in that area. Maybe they are just trying to make it harder to get the best dyes. I kinda like it that way. It makes finding them feel more rewarding. at least to ME anyway.
I once had a whole dye kit drop. That was really cool until I opened it and found it full of 50-shades of bleh.
No matter how many dyes I have on a character, I find myself only using a couple.
I usually enjoy a bit of “gotta catch em all” but w/ GW2 dyes, almost all of them I click in and never actually use.
The drop rate defnitely seems like it is down on what is was before the changes. I don’t think the chance to obtain a rare dye from an unidentified dye has changed, but the drop rate of undentified dyes seems to have gone down.
Of course, this is just a subjective observation, RNG makes it hard to be sure. I can only go by the average drop rate per session that I used to get and what I see now. I play in a variety of zones and at different level ranges on various alts and across the board I’m seeing less dyes drop.

I know what you mean, i only use “Midnight Fire” on my Ele. It looks blacker than “Abyss” on the female Tier 2 Sylvari Cultural Armor.
Here’s a pic of her:
What surprised me is the spike in prices. even before the “bug” and the “fix”, prices of unid dyes were 3s, 4s is pushing it, and usually falls between the 2s-3s range. Now they’re 6s. what happened? :O
I don’t know, it seems to be a bit lower than before, but I’ve had a few drop for me since the fix.
Now that you talk about that, I haven’t seen one for two days. And before that, I only got one once a day.
Meh, I kept thinking about John Smith and his “free market” theories… talk about interventionism.
Funny because i was farming in frostgorge last night, and i had thought they had goofed on drop rate again, because after 3 hours i came out with 6 dyes.
It does seem lower, but I’m just as prone to kitteny estimations and overcorrecting assumptions as the next guy, so I’m withholding any actual judgment. It sure feels worse in contrast to the busted rate, but it’s not like I paid any attention to the old drop rate. I didn’t even think it increased, I just thought I was getting lucky.

I liked it before the ‘fix’.
I have no idea why people were complaining about getting them too often. It’s not like you ever get anything good anyway. It’s fun to open them and see what you get though.
Why is it that any time drop rates are fiddled with in any game, it always goes wrong? I haven’t seen a single dye since the latest tweak, either.

not noticing any massive drop,
been getting the same amount i used to,
and last night i got 2 dyes drop in under half an hour.
if anything the drops are as good as they were previous to the peak-and-tweak or slightly higher perhaps.
Since the patch to “fix” the drop rate on the unidentified dyes days ago (week ago?), I have not seen a single one. I used to get at least 1 a day. Speaking with guildies, I have confirmed other people are not getting them either. Prices of them have more than doubled on TP. ANet seems to have overcompensated.
I’ve found at least six — in fact, I found one alongside some carrots I gathered not even two hours ago. Random Number Generation is your best friend.
Men of Science [MoS] – Tarnished Coast
The TP explains it all — you don’t even need to guess. The prices are higher than they were before the excessive drop rate was in effect. That’s all the evidence you need.
