Unlimited achievement points
The only point would be to have a reward unlock system where you either spend points like a currency, or unlock rewards based on your total points. They were/are supposed to be adding a system like this.
As a ranking system however, there’s no point.

Why does everything have to be a new minipet with you people?
Can’t you appreciate things just for what they are?

What’s there to appreciate? The “achievement” part of it really just measures the length of time people have played the game, and not actual achievement! Yeah, let’s make a leaderboard for that!
So since it’s not a valid measure of achievement at all, perhaps it’s a currency? That would make sense: the more time you spend in a game, the more you get, and then you can spend it on loot. Just like gold. Or karma. Or laurels, guild commendations, dungeon tokens, etc etc. Well no, it’s not.
So what are achievement points? For me it’s a way to tell how experienced a person is at the game, and who I should be wary of letting into my fractal groups. That’s it, unfortunately.

We already have gold. Why turn AP in to gold?
So your issue is that achievement points are not properly representing achievement (as you see it). So why not suggest that this be changed? Give a list of the proper achievement list, instead of rubbishing the whole concept as irrelevant.
What kind of backwards logic are you trying to pull here? Systems that don’t adhere to your preferences are irreparably broken? Your problem isn’t with the concept it’s with implementation, yet here you are trying to change the concept in to something that is already covered by gold.
People don’t seem to understand what the word unlimited means. This is a limit on daily achievement points. You cannot go past this limit. That is not unlimited. \

Dailies/Monthlies should be removed from the achievement pool.

what about the people that got ban and it wasnt there fault? i know i lost out on 400 points
and anyone who hasnt been playing from day one has no chance of ever getting the most points

You better remove WvW and sPvP from that too, as not everyone plays sPvP and WvW and there are a few points to be had there, also remove the FotM ones and all Dungeon points too, as not everyone does them, do you see the problems your running into here by trying to change something that really has no bearing on the game at all.

The point of an achievement system is to show which players are the most well-rounded players in both PvP and PvE, so there are no “problems” being run into by having a finite achievement system including both sides.
