With the expansion coming out, all item holding capacities should be automatically upgraded and enhanced to make room for the new items in the expansion. Things like stack capacity, bank tab capacity per tab, bag capacities, guild banks, and any other things that may not have been mentioned.
These enhancement could be greater for players who upgrade to the new expansion.

Why?

Expansions to all holding capacities are already there and available for people to buy. And technically, you can purchase these upgrades with the Ultimate Edition’s 4,000 gems (or simply for free using in-game gold:gems conversion). Further, it is an income-source for ArenaNet, I doubt they would do something that would detriment that.

If you meant that the limit should be increased on these upgrades (so that we could have up to 180 item slots as opposed to 160) then I would agree to that to some degree.

Those capacities and limits were made before an expansion. It makes sense to expand the holding capacity, which can still be expanded, of the base game.
It’s not a detrimental thing to their income. It’s horizontal and vertical growth. Those who will buy will still buy and those who don’t will still not. This is a natural growth progression of an expanding game and added content. Not doing so, would more or so hinder it’s natural growth and congestion would only slightly be relieved by small incremental expansion with am ever increasing build up with time and new content.
If players buy the expansion, they get a greater increase and are more likely to expand, and a net sales goes up, is that good enough reason why?

It would likely cost them sales of storage expanders and upset the people who bought some already and don’t feel they need more at this time.

I’m not saying it wouldn’t be cool, but i can’t see it happening.

They’ll be over having too much item capacity in no time.
And why advocate for holding back to try to sell something else? Look how not havin a character slot with the expansion went. It leaves the game at a low value and players don’t like it.
Having more does not prevent people from get more.

Well my main criticism is against your contention that it’ll be useful. unless they add new sources of mats that provide more than the current level of supply, then the amount of materials we have coming in won’t change. If they just add new materials that will go into mat storage then those will presumably respect the limit you already have. I don’t see how it’ll be needed.

But again, like i said, i’d be happy to receive more storage. it just doesn’t seem to make sense from a business standpoint, so i’m advising against getting your hopes up.

And also when limits have been met, what then?
It’s a long term type of game, you shouldn’t be complacent and try to keep things the same and disuade changes believe business is better for that.
It’s an mmo, expansion and growth (including content retaining capacities) comes with it.
If things didn’t increase, we’d still be left with the lesser capacity of older and more confined games like gw1 storage capacity.

I don’t think that the expansion will bring in too many extra items. If this was like another game that I used to play (Runescape); it was needed there for them to upgrade storage capacity as with new updates they would always bring in a ton of new items.

Here a lot of them can be currencies or if crafting mats simply added to the storage panel. This was not the case in that other said game. Everything went to bank slots there, mind you however the stack limit there went into the billion mark…..

Summary:

I think it’s far too early to assume too many new items will come with the expansion and that the wallet and/or crafting tabs will not be able to hold them..

Since when did this business of being a hero become being a business?

Okay, it’s an anniversary bonus. No other reason needed.

You only obtain ‘y’ amount of items in ‘x’ amount of play time. Unless the average drop rate of HoT mobs increases/decreases, this rate stays constant and you will not be getting more/less items in the same amount of play time.
With respect to ‘utility’ items one may want to store in the bank (i.e. agony infusions from Fractals), they will most likely be limited enough not to warrant such an expansion of storage capacity.

If new crafting materials will get introduced, I expect they will get their own slot in the material storage as has happened with materials introduced in Living Story (i.e. ambrite). The amount of materials one can store here is limited by the storage capacity, which can be upgraded through the gem store. As stated above, if the drop rate remains constant, the inflow of the currently present materials stays constant and no storage upgrade is needed. If anything, the addition of new materials could mean you would need less storage, as it would mean a horizontal increase rather than a vertical one (you will get a wider variety of materials, however the quantity of each individual material will be less than it currently is).

Lastly, Anet has to make money, and storage upgrades are most likely a sizable portion of their income. They wont just give this up so everyone can have free upgrades to their storage capacities.
