It drives me nuts having a massive HP bar for my target and a giant UI window for like 5 events on the upper right of my screen that I have no way of shrinking (no I don’t mean minimizing).

I just wish there were better UI scaling in the settings, I have it set to lowest but that only really helped for my action bars. Really not sure why we can’t just 0-100% scale them like most games, not even asking for really in depth UI customization where you can drag UI elements, just scaling.

It becomes a really big problem (well annoyance) when fighting bigger mobs like bosses and you can’t even see them or my dmg numbers because of the UI, and since Anet insists on having these claustrophobic cameras in place on our characters I can’t really work around it.

Not to mention when you need to pay attention to telegraphs (the good few that even exist in the game =p)

I’d love to have this plus a straight up switch on and off. I’m not doing the personal story and I don’t need to see a reminder of it, for example.

I support this idea. Although it might be better in suggestions…

Regardless I frequently have problems using skills in combat a lot due to this. I use a grenadier engineer, a staff necromancer, and a shortbow thief quite often, I can’t count how many times barrage will end up at my feet because my cursor happened to overlap with the gigantic name plate that some enemies have.

I don’t have opinions. I only have facts I can’t adequately prove.

This is my only (yet huge) issue with GW2. The screen clutter and target bar are crippling. A better zoom in or out might slightly help with the issue. The set in stone UI is annoying to the point I don’t enjoy the game enough to submerge myself into it… like I did in GW1 or other mmorpgs I’ve enjoyed.

This is my Main complaint about the game. No UI customization. Sure you can mini this and mini that , but it’s still a clusterkitten.
Although the last time I read about something like this another poster quoted a Dev or whoever saying" We want you to play the game not the UI" or were they talkin’ about Add-ons? Maybe it was add-ons/interface things.
Don’t ask me for the said quote Look it up your kitten self.

The entire UI should be more customizable. My buddies and I started playing SWTOR, and the UI is fantastic….and it was released that way. Also, they don’t allow mods either. I can move/resize my windows, customize my hotbar(s), and hide UI elements that I don’t want to see. Not to mention the camera and FOV is light years better.

QoL means a lot. I think GW2 is the first MMO that I’ve played that had such harsh UI restrictions and horrible camera/FOV, and I began playing MMOs when the origional Everquest was released.

Uhh, no it’s not. Players with asura characters can zoom to the same exact distance as any other character.

Charr camera here is raised higher.

This is made even worse for Asura with giant upper UI elements clouding your frontal view even further.

Your larger body as a charr takes up more of your screen though. If I’m doing PvP the angle of the camera doesn’t matter as much as me being able to see what my opponent is doing right in front of me.

Hardly, the taller character also has it’s camera raised giving you a better overview.

Like the difference of standing on the top of a house vs standing on the top of a tower.

My experience has been the total opposite. I’m able to see more of what’s going on because my character isn’t eating up those parts screen. It’s not nearly as drastic as a house vs a tower. The angle difference doesn’t make up for a larger portion of my screen being covered.

Actually it wasn’t released that way. UI customisation was added in patch “1.2.0 Legacy” along with the bulk of the legacy system.

But yes, some greater control over the UI would be nice and I would really like to be able to move the weapon skills to different slots.

In GW1 you could move all different aspects of the UI practically anywhere you wanted.

It’s sad that GW2’s UI has almost zero customizability.

Don’t ask me for the said quote Look it up your kitten self.

I think the “play the game, not the UI” was in reference to people in theory being able to play GW1 with the 3d engine off. This because all the data needed to play was found in the UI. So they moved skill tells into the game world (weapon/mob glow, ground circles) rather than as a icon and channel bar alongside the target data.

They have however stated that they didn’t add a option to hide things like the personal story entry, because they had experience with newbies hiding various GW1 UI elements by accident and filling up the support inbox with complaints.

I guess what they could do was to put in minimize buttons in the UI. these would compress things like the sidebar and target data into the bare minimum.

For the sidebar it could be a vertical or horizontal row of icons, that would slide out the relevant data when hovered.

For the targeting data, remove the target portrait and put a colored/spiked border around the health bar.

Heck, maybe even turn the skill bar into a row of numbers that gray out while the skills are on recharge. Optionally turning into a row of countdowns when skills are triggered. Remove the giant red ball and put a health bar above the utility skills. And have the boons line up above the profession mechanic while the conditions line up above the health bar.

Oh, and allow us to turn off all the “paint” style borders that infest the UI (never mind the actual screen border, tho less noticeable except when stunned). Crap like that just reinforce the impression that game mechanics and engineering have been sacrificed for esthetics and artistic kittening.

The whole UI should be scalable… like what mmo doesn’t have that in 2013? Guild Wars 2, the game with more gem store items that content itself.

I do wonder why the UI isn’t more scalable and customizable.

I can choose to make everything smaller, but you really should be able to remove the things you don’t want with the option to bring them back. And it seems pretty simple to do.

Here’s what people thought of GW1 when it first came out: http://tinyurl.com/bntcvyc

Lets face it, GW1 was made by (computer) engineers. GW2 is made by artists. And there is no way to talk an artist into compromising their vision by allowing user customization.

Said something similar before but imagine buying a dvd/blu-ray that had a list of other films, chapter select and deleted scenes obscuring the top right of the screen throughout the film that can’t be turned off. Maybe Anet should think of their game like that too.

I suffer from ocular migraines and frequently have to stop playing because constantly twitching my eyes from the skill bar at the bottom of the screen to the target at the very top makes my head want to explode. I’de give my left foot to be able to move the target icon UI to the bottom of the screen near the skillbar.

+1.

The U.I. in this game is nothing short of terrible. The most prominent annoyance (and a real personal hate of mine) is the enemy target bar – it’s size and positioning serves only to obscure the view of the action, (especially in boss fights.)

Short of a fully-customisable U.I., can we not at the very least have scalable elements? Is that really too much to ask? Pfff.

At best I hope Arena.Net plan to release this as a “feature” at some point in the future. (Similar to the new L.F.G. tool which really should have been present when the game was released.)

Petty annoyances like this may not seem to be a big issue by themselves, but they do add up. The constricted camera zoom-function and the lack of food/consumables slots on the skill bar are but another two examples of where small adjustments could be made to immeasurably improve our “quality of life” and overall gaming experience.
