Visual nerfs [Merged]
Of course it’s not good customer service. Forbidden topics, and other forms of non-communication never are. Nor is being rude and disrespectful(like Colin’s angry, petulant “It’s not because of esports” reply on Reddit)I never implied they were. I do believe that this topic is on a “Forbidden Topic” list. If you go and carefully read the Anet “No restriction on posting” reply that Siobhan.5273 links a few posts above.(And read it like a godsforsaken lawyer) you’ll see it doesn’t rule out a “Forbidden Topic” list. (IMO) It primarily addresses who can post and where. And I’m not criticizing Gaile. She’s definitely one of the people from Anet I trust. But as a PR employee, she must be very, very careful about what she posts. And she knows exactly how to word what she needs to say.
And as I’ve said, this makes no difference, except we can quit wondering why, and demanding responses. No responses are coming until it becomes allowed. But they still need meaningful input.(Rather than “Why won’t you respond?!? We’re sick of no response!!” kinda thing. )

I think they’re waiting for this topic to die off and for us to forget anything ever happened.
They did add a few minor effects to the new Auras with this last update. Not enough to make them visually distinct in the heat of combat IMO, but it’s a start.
I continue to hope they’re working on sliders. I want my un-nerfed Fireball and Overload Air visuals back.

Skipping the whole “Forbidden Topic” debate that, as you put, won’t get us nowhere, I think the issue here is that after over 800 replies, we quite possibly put up every manner of meaningful input existent to this problem. If there was ever a time to make a response (or to allow a response, in case Forbidden Topics are a thing), this is probably the time. All latest posts from players in this topic, and all player posts from now on, were and will inevitably be a repetition of what has already been said here, there is nothing more we can add.
So we just had a State of the Game update. But no mention of the visual effects nerf on auras! Please Anet, give us back our auras!
re: all player posts from now on, were and will inevitably be a repetition of what has already been said here, there is nothing more we can add. – No, I think more people saying the same thing is good. Different people saying the same thing make our case stronger.
Two people saying the same thing might be a coincidence, Ten people saying the same thing definitely is not. And One Hundred people saying the same thing, you probably ought pay attention to. Right?

^This.
Also, I recommend that folks cease purchasing gems with real money, hit Anet in their wallet.

I agree with both of these quotes.
This is still a very frustrating point for me. I read about gliding and shatterer, and I am partly excited, but the blanding of graphics for (as many have said in this thread) pretty much no reason as it is not effective at what it was supposed to do has put a pall over my entire impression of the game. I keep getting into new games and playing them a while hoping that if I ignore GW2 for long enough it will be fixed and I can come back excited and renewed again, but the longer this drags on, the less I find myself even caring about the game at all. It is a matter of trust for me, if they are willing to destroy some of the beauty of the game, then I have a hard time falling in love with any of my characters because I feel at any time they could be ruined just like my elementalist was. I don’t want to invest time into a character only to have some dev decide that they are too flashy and need to be toned down so much it’s painful to even watch their attacks.
So, if the devs are actually reading this, put this problem on priority, fix the root issues with visual clarity or just leave it alone and let it be another challenge to playing the game. Reverse the changes or add a slider, but whatever you do, do it fast before those who have made their opinions here apparent and many more who have silently walked away in disgust permanantly forget about this game and stop caring about it’s future.

Ne’er a truer word spoken.
re: Ne’er a truer word spoken. – Nope. I’ve already explained why that is false.

More people saying the same thing is good. It adds weight to what has been said here.
If this thread isn’t accomplishing anything, why are they backing off the aura changes? As to why these have been stealth mods that are totally not in the patch notes, that’s another good question. :/
I guess ArenaNet doesn’t care… =(
I bet if this forum was about how we loved the visual nerfs and we wanted more 8bit visuals Anet and Colin would be responding here. Lets give Anet what they want and leave GW2 and go back to Pen and Paper.
Problem solved!
The visual nerds were poorly implemented, give us a slider or just revert back to when they actually looked good. Egg auras and fireball are just extremely lackluster in appearance.
This is like the SAB thread. Even if you get it to 110000 views and thousands of replies they don’t care because the decision was taken at the top. All will do is tell you they’re “looking into bringing it back one day in the future” and watch you wait for years.

Regardless, I have no intention of letting this issue go.
Adding my two bits to this. I haven’t had time to play a whole lot for a while but I finally decided to play my old, first toon love tonight – my fire elemental. Imagine my surprise (all of you know, duh…I know ;o) when I found I was no longer lobbing what was a fairly decent fiery ball of testosterone but a little flame-spitting pebble. One of the things that makes this game fun is to actually feel like you’re entertaining your alter ego.
I am usually fairly satisfied with directions the devs take this game (and I really only play solo PvE, so I know there is a ton of stuff I am completely ignorant of) but this actually causes me consternation…I don’t want to play my ele because of this. Argh!
The rest seems fine. ;o)

Have you gotten the chance to see how terrible the Aura Nerf was?
It looks like you are inside an egg and it’s barely visible. See it for yourself. I Guarantee you will cry if you remembered how it looked originally. =)

Haven’t been to the forums in a few days, and was surprised to find this on the third page. Has something happened to auras to make them better?

The visual nerfs are still awful. They haven’t listened or fixed any of it unfortunately. It’s very, very sad, but it appears that this is one of those topics that they just don’t give a rip about. Evidently they have their reasons for making the changes and they feel that those reasons completely negate any feedback to the contrary. It’s just disappointing that they can’t even be bothered to say as much to all of the people who have posted about this topic that is so important to us.
nothing new here, but even new players think that fire"ball" is odd..
reddit
re: They haven’t listened or fixed any of it unfortunately. – Go look at Elementalist auras. They’ve backed off some of the changes. The egg shape isn’t as narrow, and most of the effects have returned. They’re still harder to see than they used to be, but they’re better than they were. So they are listening at least a little, and are fixing things at least a little.
And we need them to know that’s good, and we need more of that.(Listening, and fixing these visual nerfs.)

I like the person that said:
They’re renaming it to Angry Spit in the next balance update.

From the Reddit article mentioned above about the visuals apparently, there is aura nerf coming soon? Anyone know about this?
As for fireball, it really doesn’t match its sound now. And it doesn’t look like something that does AoE damage affecting more than one target. Not that I’m asking for a nerf of any kind for fireball. I just don’t think its current look matches its sound and AoE damage.
They really needed to go about this “fix” the right way, changing things that would have the most benefit, and least negative impact first. Nerfing the visual appeal of individual skills just seems desperate and pathetic.

There’s …a nerf to the already nerfed auras…?!
Champion Ulgoth the Modniir fight:
(There is a post on Reddit which has screenshots of visuals from a year ago. I’m not seeing much, if any difference.)

That’s what I was reading over on Reddit
Screenshots of the fireball taken just now (the wind and the pitch), as well as the aura.
edit-Just took a screenshot of my husband’s engineer as well

Anet really messed up on this one. I loved the Elementalist. It was a different feel for any other magic class I have played in all my years of MMO gaming. I don’t care about PvP Esports Anet, but apparently you do enough to cater to only a few and ignore the 100s of us other Eles who are asking for a revert or OPTION to return to the old fireball. You also just gave us a 64 Bit client. So I’m angry right now, its really hard to support all of the stupid design decisions. RIGHT THE SHIP BEFORE ITS TOO LATE!

I was reading somewhere that they’ll nerf the duration of auras -> Maximum duration from all sources will be reduced to 4 sec.
As a pvper these changes are still terrible, might as well make there no animations whatsoever and just run around taking damage from who knows what.
While I don’t mind some of the visual reduction, what I do mind is that despite it being reduced it still causes the same amount of FPS lag.
Example: During Karka Queen, huge amounts of visual clutter and particle effects dropped my fps down anywhere between 20-25. After all the visual nerfs, it’s still no different. Why would the particle effects cause the same amount of fps drop when they are much less seen?
I’d like to add a little optimistic theory of mine.
There was no more visual butchering after the first two patches (last one being beginning of december) and I am sure that was not the plan in the beginning. (At least I hope so. Didn’t see anything or read anything in the patchnotes!) So i consider this some kind of reaction to the massive rant on this topic. I guess this was not expected by ANet and they were suprised and stopped to change the course of action.
On the other hand they are unwilling or unable to admit they made a huge mistake, otherwise they would have rerolled it. But I’m sure (or hope very hard^^) they are aware of it and how unhappy the players are with it.
Nevertheless we are stuck in this situation until they develope some alternative solution (aka graphics slider) i think.
The change to Chaos Armor is ridiculous, and needs to be put back the way it was.
I want my Fireball back.
I want my Overload Air cloud+effects back.
I want my Tempest Shout effects back.
The Auras I can live with.
Most of all, I want SLIDERS.
Well they did a guild Chat that was supposed to be around the non balance topics of the upcoming 26 patch. They have talked about Tyria gliding, WvW changes (fairly unexpected if you ask me), sqad upgrades, upcoming changes to decorations and even how Tybalt is able to summon mana from the sky.
And they didn´t breathe a single word about the visual nerf issue.
You should prepare for your great finale.

I’m starting to think sliders were some kind of ancient technology that has been lost in the mists of time and the current devs don’t know how to recreate them to provide us with the flexibility of choosing our own effects.
Things Anet is working on
Deposit/compact bags button too close. Anet realized this was an issue when a streamer complained about it. They are working on a solution. Not coming next Tuesday but coming soon (still need to test it).
So… the visual effects reduction feedback is pushing 900 posts without a reply (apart from the condescending rant we got on reddit), and yet this gets an almost immediate response because some streamer complained about it?
Gotta love those priorities…
Same event done again last night, this time with the UI minimized so you can see stuff without all the names all over the screen.
Ah yeah, good thing we nerfed those well-visuals! kitten I can see so clearly now!
the sad bit is, I’ll never be able to do stuff like this again on this visual nerfing route we’re on…. and this is what I do for fun for people all over tyria
kinda ruining it for those of us who do photography stuff in game for people….
Amazing pictures! I used to do something like that too. – Capturing my girlfriend’s elementalist in big fights…. now it just looks sad.
I just don’t understand why don’t you, ARENANET, won’t make this an option in video settings. I don’t believe it cannot be done! Just make 4 pre-sets of the level of special effect details: Minimum for Spvp/WvW; Balanced low – high details on you; balanced high – high details on you and your party members; max: high details on everyone aroud you.
DONE!, Problem solved!!!

But… that would be confusion for newcomers! /s
Well, the patch notes for 2016-01-26 don’t mention any further visual nerfs(Yay!) but they also don’t mention any reversal of the current nerfs.

Sigh And they don´t even mention this issue. Kinda expected from what I´ve been seing from Anet, saldy.
You should prepare for your great finale.
Anet, people would enjoy the game more if they were able to customize the visual effects to their liking. I think visual “nerfs” being an option that you can choose from in Graphic settings is better than to force something onto people. Just a thought, and I’m sure I’m not the first to propose this.
Have you ever loved someone so deeply that when they betrayed you the love you felt turned into white-hot hate? This is how I feel about Anet and the game itself over this issue, not to mention Anet’s now legendary disdain for its customers. Thankfully, the Korean version of Black Desert Online is very playable pending the NA/EU release.
I’m still not going to spend RL money on gems until the visual nerfs are reverted, Anet.
they dont care about players feedback are they would do beta test patches.they only will listen when alot leave are stop buying from gem store.i mean look at pvp after patch necr god mode engineers overlord mode lol at scepter for ele lol just a useless feriocty buff not one scepter skill change are cast reductioin time
