I created a new Guardian before the patch. I was sort of excited about leveling it up. Then feature pack 2 hit. It became an exercise in futility and annoyance. At the end of the evening, I was browsing the black lion shop. I saw several things there that I’d normally have bought and I thought to myself:
“Do I really want to invest more money in this?” And the answer I got for myself was a resounding “no”. Instead, I came to the conclusion that I do not see a future for GW2 on its present course, and decided to deinstall the client.
Basically, I am voting with my wallet. “You’re not doing a good enough job.”
I kind of hope everybody who dislikes the recent changes does the same, maybe that will get through to ArenaNet. GW2 was a good game, once, and it’s a shame to see what happens to it.

Good luck.
No you can’t have my stuff.
I like the way you think, if more people did this ArenaNet would have to listen far more. Hell I was trying to level a thief too and did the same thing, “Huh, a ninja outfit eh? That’d be pretty nice while I’m stealthing around but… nope, I’m not spending any money on a game that thinks I’m so dense I can’t handle having more than a couple of skills on my bar at early levels.”
I made a gem purchase early last month for a new Elementalist I made that actually rekindled my joy for this game. Needless to say I am regretting that purchase now for the same reasons you describe.
Also, I had been planning to make an alt all week now and I decided to try it out this morning, much to my dismay. The new changes are some of the worst I have ever seen in any game. The TP and other changes were frustrating enough, but this… this is just unbelievable.
Yeah, I was spending 30 dollars or more a month on this game. But, honestly, I don’t see any real reason to invest any more at this point. I especially liked creating new alts – no point now.
GW2 is in divest for me since last year… unfortunately I don’t see this game becoming good ever again. I’m afraid we have already seen the best of this game.
Zerk is the average Joe build. Don’t pat yourself in the back too hard.
I’m ashamed to say that I was a whale for Anet’s cash shop for the past 2 years.
I spent far, far too much money on this game, that in retrospect provided me with quick fixes that I could/should have gotten by earning gold in game an converting to gems.
No more.
I won’t go so far as to delete the client, but I’m sure as hell never whipping out my credit card again for these guys.
If I can’t buy it it with gold conversions, it isn’t worth getting.
Yep, I’ve spent a good amount of money for gems in this game over the last 2 years, but since april they’ve gotten nothing from me and have ensured they will continue to get nothing from me.

I hear you. I am deinstalling because a) I am thoroughly demoralized about GW2 right now; b) I figure a lower playerbase is a slightly stronger message, and c) I have it installed on a 128GB SSD and I could use the space.
YMMV and it’s cool if it does. L80 play is probably still OK.
I’ve spent so much on this game since launch, more than any subscription I’ve paid and I have to say that I’m done spending money too until they start delivering better content. I’m not “deleting my account” or anything and I’ll keep an eye on it and log in now and then but I’m done spending money on this game.
The news that Season 2 won’t relaunch until November is the final straw for me, I liked Season 2, I thought that the game finally had hit its stride and I started spending real money again and then they take a 3 month break.
Last several months I’ve been dropping $100+ on gems. Especially with the GW2 anniversary sales. I played yesterday for about two hours, and now I doubt I’ll play except maybe to login for the story chapters, just to unlock them. I’m definitely not dropping any more money into this game – specifically because of the leveling and TP changes.

likewise, i introduced the game to a couple of people and while i have a couple of level 80’s and i do..did* enjoy spending $ on gems to either buy tools for equipment or getting new armor skins/just skins in general or keys (that’s right, i used to buy keys). i honestly stopped seeing the point in doing so several months ago. i only ever logged in for the season 2 story, maybe a couple of achievements and to see how some of the new champ mobs functioned though that’s entirely it. The people that i introduced the game to are no longer interested and since the game has been going downhill for quite a while (besides S2 story) i see no point in spending $ on anything or logging in.

There are plenty of posts detailing that, I think; in my case I found that an experience I enjoyed – leveling – was crippled into being a really bad chore. Everything is now level gated, even silly, fundamental things like downed state. It’s ridiculous.
Yeah, I used to support this game by basically buying the gem store miniatures, and the direct buy weapon skins, and some armor set skins, with real money spent on gems, and was actually going to buy Svanir and Chieftain minis but this last patch just really soured my mood in a lot of ways.
I can count only two instances since headstart where I actually used gold > gem conversion and it was just to even out the balance of remaining gems sitting in my wallet because it was at an odd number of gems that wasn’t even getting spent due to how pricing is on the things I wanted to buy.
Really hoping ArenaNet turns this around but it’s not looking likely.
Likewise I used to buy gem cards on a regular basis. I quit buying them last winter because I didn’t like the way Anet was changing the game. This lastest change has only reinforced my decision. Wallet remains locked.
Im not buying anything until this game is worth playing again, until that ill log in to my full asc/legend ranger and hang out in the grove.
I loved the exploring part with new character, but this destroyed everything. It’s totally brainless game right now and suitable for a kid. Time to move on and find another game to play until things have sorted itselves out (if it ever will).
If only people would vote with there wallets and not their mouths… unfortunately no one really feels like doing the former, so they come on the forums and start throwing threats around… as if the threat of no longer buying gems is more effective then going ahead and simply not buy gems.
I manage it quite well. I was also a big proponent of wanting to financially support a game and company I believed in and wanted to succeed/bring us new content.
Then all this happened and made it so they will not get anymore money from me. In essence they’ve lost me as a consumer and any potential new consumers i might have tried to convince to come to this game. Instead they are making more of us drive people actively AWAY from the game, which in turn will hurt their bottom line.

Did you read this thread. “no one feels like doing the former”. I for one and there are others have stopped supporting the game with cash gem purchases(and have said so)
Simply put for you, I (and others) are not buying gems anymore and letting Anet know here. There is no ‘threat’ it is the ‘vote’ I have utilized as well as voicing my decision.

Same. Just before update I bought gems for hair kit for one of my level 80’s, good thing it was for a level 80 too. I don’t think they deserve any more of my money though, not after this they have made alternate characters a complete chore for those of us who don’t need to be taught how to play.
If they’d give you lv80 scrolls, would that make you happy?
Yes actually, for those who have exhausted the personal story to level 80 and beyond several times over and already know how to play and now feel really cheated and gated (story was done to death now leveling and ability’s have been pushed back making it feel even more grindy than it was[which was near impossible btw I thought they couldn’t possibly make it more of a grind but heyo they found a way])… those players should have got lvl 80 scrolls X the ammount of chars they still have under level 80 by default as an apology for the inconvenience IMO. Just like any other company would, they mess up = they compensate you to ensure you will still come back to them in future.
To be honestly I’ve spent well over $200 in gems since launch and it’s taken till now to see just how wasted all that money has been. I’ve needed to take a long break from this game for a while and this patch has given me all the reason to start that now. Arena Net has shown what they really value as a company and as a developer with these changes, and that sure as heck isn’t their players. I’ll still log in with my laptop to get my LS unlocks, but I’m uninstalling GW2 from my main gaming PC. Might even make a new gw1 character and replay the glory days.
I had stopped spending money on GW2 for a long time. But with the launch of S2 of the LS I had regained some hope in the game and spent some more money on things.
This feature patch is making me regret that. I certainly will not be spending anymore money until these changes are removed or fixed.
I spent some money occasionally on gemstore stuff at one time, but my wallet has been locked since April and the horrid trait changes with a note tied to the key saying “unlock me once the trait system is reverted”. After yesterday’s patch, the key has been melted down for scrap and said locked wallet has been bolted inside a sealed container designed to store high-grade nuclear waste and dropped in the Mariana Trench, never to see the light of day again.
Since the first “feature” pack the mere utterance of that word in relations to an upcoming patch on the official site has been an experience of dread instead of excitement. It’s hard to be excited about needed changes like bugfixes, actual enhancements and additions, and balance fixes when there is this concerted effort to break the main foundation of the game itself and lock things behind walls so you feel “accomplished” when you unlock something that was already in the game and easily accessable pre-patch.
I was planning on buying gems so I could get two more armor sets and a pack of total makeover kits. It was mainly for a new alt I created a few weeks ago and had stopped leveling to be able to check out the new leveling system with this patch.
Now, nope not buying those gems. I’m sure my $30 doesn’t really matter that much but it is now going towards something else. Luckily we are about to get flooded with some great new fall gaming releases from other companies.
I vote No aswell! As I said in another thread. Even an expansion at this point can save it for me! Why pay for more content that will certainly be broke? The games is over 2 years old and continues to have issues it’s had from launch. Yea you may have those always positive type sa: “well atleast it will be NEW broken content”
Remember we don’t draw on cave walls anymore.Language and texts have evolved since.
I am also very disappointed by alot of the changes. Not everything is bad, however there are so many changes that I don’t understand. Why is the power of choice being removed from the players. The game is becoming way to easy.
I firmly believe that the goal for any game should be to provide more options (Like a difficulty mode, with a reward for those that choose the harder difficulty) and not to remove options.
I’m not leaving the game or anything, however it would be nice to know that my concerns are heard. I feel like there is a wall between the players and ArenaNet. It is possible that after seeing how alot of new game developement teams are being very interactive with their community it just feels like such a closed loop and the players are on the outside.
There is not even a suggestion forum. I see no real channel to voice our concerns on the direction of development as a whole other than coming to the general forums where valid suggestions\discussions get lost amongst the plethora of unrelated posts.
If only people would vote with there wallets and not their mouths… unfortunately no one really feels like doing the former, so they come on the forums and start throwing threats around… as if the threat of no longer buying gems is more effective then going ahead and simply not buy gems.
Actually, to have any hope of making an impact, one needs to both stop spending and let the company know why. If enough people stop spending and don’t say why, ANet will form a focus group which will tell them people stopped spending because the gem store was too complicated.

Agreed, however I don’t believe ArenaNet is provinding the correct channels to get player feedback. It would be nice to see some kind of effort to hear players concerns.
I’ve decided to stop spending money on it too. Id normally buy the Ninja & Ceremonial armor but the fact is, I just don’t like the game’s overall direction.
I liked GW1 business model way more. I’d rather pay for an expansion than get the LS free. I’m sick of all the rewards being in the Cash Shop. Sick of no new classes/races/skills.
I was really looking forward to payday so I could re-roll my guardian to a human. I knew i’d need bag slots, gold, and other bits and pieces, so I had planned to buy a ton of gems to get my new guard geared somewhere near to my main guard that I already have at cap. But to be honest, I have struggled to find the motivation when the thought of obtaining traits came to my mind (i’ve done these “quests” twice already) and found the price of them at the vendor too high for my tastes. Just as i’d pushed myself to re-roll, this patch hit and I just can’t find the motivation anymore. So no, I won’t be buying gems. My asura guard will suffice. It is becoming more and more of a chore to level these days.
I understood some of the logic behind the changes (traits and the new levelling system), but this is only for new players. It would be nice to be given a scroll of some kind when you have a character that reaches 80 that you can use on an alt. Auto-level to 20-30 and unlocks all traits (except for the grandmaster ones). That way “veteran” players can still have their alts (and those veterans that prefer to experience the game through the eyes of a new players can still do so) without feeling like it is more trouble than its worth.
I’ll still play, I have a small group of friends who I have a laugh with doing a couple of dungeons and fractals each day, but honestly I can’t really see any need for me to actually invest money in this game anymore, which is a huge change from a year ago when I found this game a breath of fresh air and actually WANTED to throw my money at anet.
It’s true, I’m not dangerous. But these golems are!
ASURA POWER!
Voting with my wallet doesn’t work for several reasons:
ANet, in the grand scheme of things, will never know that my EUR 10/month are no longer coming in.
Even if they did notice, they would have no way of knowing whether it was because I’m still grumpy about town clothes, or newly grumpy about the TP, or the SAB, or grumpy about something completely different like the Living Story (which I’m not).
There is only so many times you can decide to financially boycott the game (which is once) and most of us have already done it ages ago.
The only thing that would clear this up would be a professional survey.
Sadly I agree with the original poster but also know (having worked the commercial sector) that voting with your wallet is a futile task at best as you have already paid for the game in the form of a download or a DVD. This said, I am ‘this close’ to doing the same thing and I consider myself pretty fanatical about GW2. At 47 I’ve been playing games, semi-professionally, sometimes as a beta-tester since the Eighties and have in that time written manuals, guides and reviews; and sadly recently changes to Guild Wars 2 have left me wanting – as in more.
If you take a look at the world map you’ll notice that roughly half of it has been filled-out by explorable regions and the other has not. Sure, it takes time to create a region and to populate it with content. Then there is the matter of putting in NPC’s and instances but it’s time that ArenaNET began adding features that enhanced the game playing experience. Off of the top of my head I can think of beasts of burden that we can ride, of residential areas we can rent and call home and which we can furnish and of markets where the player sells their wares. How about skyships that we can operate and engage in combat with? How about areas where battles are taking place and we can join in? C’mon ArenaNET you have the technology – give us something EXCITING!
Having played since 2012 it took me about eight months to explore every region, every feature and to do everything worth doing … and now the thrill is gone. All that is left to me is the fun of collecting and selling materials, but that was TAKEN AWAY from me when this update took place as I now feel the new Black Lion interface is not fit for purpose, is confusing and frankly is poorly designed.
Well they talked about voting with your wallet. So I did buy the CE to vote the best way you can for a true B2P game.
Of course I made sure to not buy any gems as there is no better way to vote for a B2P game. After-all I didn’t want to vote for a Cash-shop / F2P game.
Then after a year when you expect a B2P game to gets it’s first expansion I wanted to vote again but sadly never did get the change to do so.
Personally, I was looking forward to buying at least 5 more character slots before this patch, and in ONE day I had been completely drained of the desire to level my current alts to cap.
I don’t even want to complete the map, it’s just not worth it anymore.
I wish everyone upset about the patch would uninstall the game right now and never come back to the forums, except in a few months to discover just how fine Anet is doing without them. Good luck wherever you go.

Asof tomorrow, my input to GW2 will be minimal Archeage is being released and those devs listen to the player base, Perhaps ANET should take a look at their forum and see how customer relations work.
Such a shame seeing as this was the best MMO i’ve played.
