Warrior or guardian for frontline tank
You can re-trait as many times are you want at the class trainers, found in all race cities/lions arch.
Warrior provides a superior amount of damage and larger amount of control, while offering some offensive support and on-demand ressing. (Most likely using soldiers/knights gear)
- Hammer Warrior has the most control out of the two classes.
- Warrior has superior vitality(almost twice as much) and offers a more tanky class(subjective and varies)
- Banners provide offensive support but lack when the group moves away from the bonus(can carry them with the group) (warbanner also on-demand ress’s)
- Shouts can offer healing/condition clearing depending on traits/runes.
Guardian provides the defensive support, while offering a smaller amount of control/damage.(most likely using Clerics or soldiers gear)
- hammer/staff guardian offers less control and damage then the warrior, however, will provide larger support (aoe healing, aoe protection,lightfields(clensing/retaliation)large amounts of aoe might.
- traits can provide with Aoe might, Heavy Aoe condition clensing, Aoe blind/might spamming, Aoe blocks
- large amounts of reflection (wall/shield/shield of the avenger)
- Tome elite can offer VERY hefty Aoe healing, including a full heal.
- Aoe Stability, and through hallowed ground, a larger amount.
- two long-lasting fire fields, great for blasting might.
Overall, I favour my guardian over my warrior, I find that I offer a bit more to my Zerg and survive a bit better (plus, I do love the AoE wave auto attack from staff, more loot bags)
I know you could re-trait and swap gears between zerk and soldier’s but doing it every time when I play WvW and PvE is annoying.
I’ll give my guardian a go on Wvw and see how well it does. I also have 2 celestial rings dropped from fractals which would help.
Don’t ever use celestial on guard or anyone!.
Don’t ever use celestial on guard or anyone!.
Will using it until the time I get the laurels required for PVT rings a bad idea over exotic substitutes?
Any opinions about the above question?
Celestial is pretty good on guardian, as it gives a nice healing power bonus, as well as the crit damage.
The all-round guardian build is soldier armor and weapons with celestial trinkets, going either 0/5/30/30/5 or 0/0/30/30/10 depending on the weapon set and the 3rd utility.
Stand your ground and hold the line are essential, and you can swap the 3rd utility depending on your preference. I prefer purging flames over sanctuary after the pure of voice fix. Or judges intervention when i feel like catching the enemy with the hammer ring.

Don’t ever use celestial on guard or anyone!.
Why? I have been playing guardian as a main for a year now, and i can’t really think of me playing anything else besides a guardian for PvE, and believe me i’ve tried.
Guardians have pretty much everything.
After alot of thinking and theory crafting about 8 or soo months ago i come up with this build that i’ve been using until now and i don’t plan on changing.
Traits(0/30/30/10/0)
Armor- Soldier
Runes- Rune of the Soldier
Trinkets (Celestial + soldier backpiece [all ascended])
Weapons – Valkyrie and celestial depending on what im doing i just go up to the inventory and change them really quickly
sword+torch and scepter+shield (variant sword/mace)
I might do a YT video on this or something because i think this is a build that at least every starter player reaching lvl 80 should do.

I have enough Healing Power to heal my self to full at any given time
I have Enough Power(it could be better ofc) but enough to kill large group of mobs or even champions in a reasonable amount of time
I have Some Condition Damage, since my Virtue of Justice Recharges whenever i kill a mob this Condi Dmg helps alot with the damage output in groups of mobs
Thoughness enough tanky
Crit chance 40% + 15% for 1h weps from traits+20% from fury(“Save YourSelves”)
Crit Damage 64%
And 20.4k Health
Some Accolades with this build that i think is might be worth mentioning

Soo If any Guardians out there looking for a good build that is balanced and easy enough to be killing things and watching Videos at the same time xD, i guess this might be what you are looking for
Full celestial is bad, the overall stat loss is too much, and you end up with very little power and a noticeable loss in damage (and yes, condition damage from the celestial adds nothing for a guardian, as your only real damaging condition is burning, and that stacks terribly and will be of almost zero use)
I cant recall exactly, but I believe the only beneficial pieces were chest? and perhaps some accessories, just remember, you will always get better overall stats in the end mix-matching other armour pieces.
Personally, I like to take clerics armour/weapons, and a mix of half cleric/half soldier trinkets (boon duration runes, energy sigils, oh, and dodgeroll healing spamming is amazing with 1k+ healing power) when I zerg It up in WvW with my guardian, as I can manage with the lower health and utilising the healing power to keep myself alive, as apposed to taking mostly soldiers and having a lot more health, but being less able to keep myself healed up.
For tank – Guardian
Warrior is good but you can’t heal yourself constantly like a guard. I use cleric stats on my guard (Power, Tough, Heal Power), my damage sucks but tanking and providing big heals is good can’t imagine playing a guard differently.

If you do crappy damage, you’re lowering your group’s average dps, therefore making the fight last longer. If you go full zerker you won’t survive as long but you also won’t need to because the fight will finish faster. That’s why people say (and complain) that in GW2 berserker is king.

This thread is about WvW. You are talking about dungeon runs. Zerker is not king in WvW zerging.

Ugh, this is why I want to save/load trait profiles. I know that my PvE guardian build (greatsword blindbot) is kind of bad for WvW compared to going support, but it’s annoying to have to retrait/swap items all the time

PvE in this game is an absolute joke. I highly doubt anyone has been in a REAL speed run ever in this thread. You may call it a speed run, but if it didn’t push the 4minute envelope you’re not even close to hardcore PvE (or what GW2 passes for hardcore PvE). Go traitless and I’d wager most in this thread wouldn’t even notice.
As for Wvw, both the Guardian and Warrior are in high demand and equally valuable (edging more in favor of the guardian). There are few classes in this game that you could consider complete but these 2 would probably be it.
Pick whichever you want and set goals for your gear. 3k armor is a lot for a front line role. 3.5k would be ideal, but 3k will get you through. Run some numbers and see what it takes for each class to get 3k armor and go from there.

Oh my god… That is terrible. Your attack is almost equal to my power…. This is why people think guards have crap dps.. Please don’t advocate this as a do it all kind of build. This is pure Loot Bag WvW build.

You might want to ask this question on the WvW forum and/or the guardian forum.
Guardian as tank is a misconception. Just because they wear heavy armor doesn’t make them a tank. They instead make everyone else tanky through their boons with aegis, protection, and hp regen.
If you want a tank, Warrior is your only choice since they can dish out a lot of damage to keep aggro on them and can take a lot of punishment due to large health pool and heavy armor. Guardian has a pathetic damage output thus will have a hard time keeping aggro and they cannot take a lot of punishments in comparison to a Warrior. Once their protection and aegis ran out, they are too squishy due to their pathetically low health pool. They are the best support class however, but they are not tanks.
Full set of 5 unique skills for both dual-wield weapon sets: P/P and D/D – Make it happen
PvE – DD/CS/AC – If that didn’t work, roll a Reaper or Revenant.

I know about this, hence, I run in organized groups for Dungeons and one fractal a day so I wouldn’t want to slow them down.

I was thinking about making a guardian, but his Hit points really scares me. For a tank 19k Hp isn’t ideal I’d assume? Which builds you’d recommend?
Thanks.

what class do you play on your 2.5k power char???
unless you are a mesmer, im pretty sure you would go down :p
If you are not a mesmer and you consider me a walking loot bag you must really be a PROFESSIONAL at your class
you must be one of these people who think Zerker’s are the best, or not.. ^^

You specifically stated in there, that you bring that trash build to PVE as well. That is where my comment came from. If you just run around staff#1’ing in WvW, then that’s fine. But for dungeons, your build is out right horrible.
edit: and theres the power. Guardian Meta Dungeon build. http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fUAQNAR8dlUgiC3FSHEf4ESODRCBtZAQHUli45eA-jwxAYfhMyPEVYIzJvioxWcLiGruGT5SEVLFQEDjA-e

Yeah the stats are not ideal. For sure Your stats could be so much better if you changed your gear.

Hitpoints is not an issue for guardians due to tons and tons of healing. Hell, everything you do heals you. Just today I was running around with my guardian with hobbled together gear (pvt, healing, berserker, I cant remember since the last time I played it was some 6 months ago) and its pretty impossible to die unless completely swamped. I only have 17K and is far, far more tankier than my Mesmer when bunkerspecced for ~25K HP. The Mesmer is my main and I play it every single day in raids. Lets not even begin to mention the simplistic yet extremely powerfull zerg/bunker weapons, compared to the crap that other professions have (I’m looking at you, shotgun staff).
That’s how bloody easy it is to play a noob Guardian, lol. Dont worry about the hitpoints.
