forcing people into only one way to get a new gear tier is not a good way to make crafting worth it. Introducing lots of awesome new weapon and armor skins that only crafters could make is a good way to do it. A new gear tier should be accessible by various means.

+1 completely agree

Seriously, what the kitten is wrong with you people.

How in the world is making the weapon by crafting a way for Anet to sell gems? Can’t you kitten do dungeons for gold? or do events? There is so many way to make gold in this game.

And also, crafted Ascended weapon are account bound and probably the dropped one so I don’t think you will be able to buy them.

Seriously, if there’s a game where I never felt the need to use the cash shop it’s GW2, it’s not even close to being pay to win.

Regardless, anyone who wants a Legendary would be well-served to prepare for those changes by buffing his crafting skill and creating an ascended weapon or two.

I’m two stacks of T6 away from a Legendary and I see on reason to level your crafting profession at all. The whole ascended thing is more painful than actually making a legendary.

  • It should not be time gated
  • It should not be limited to crafting only. Crafting should only get exclusive skins.
  • Precursor crafting will not be in the game just yet. We won’t be able to craft a precursor with crafting to 500.
  • blues and greens won’t get that much more worth it, because of how often they drop. If the price will increase it will only bump up for a short while, because all of the impatient will try to get to mf cap on the first day.
  • 11% stat increase is not little at all.

One big reason why they time gated the ascended crafting is probably to avoid a “bigger” market crash. Look at what happened to glob of ectoplasm during the livestream. If it wasn’t time gated people who just empty the whole TPand price would totally explode.

here’s a fast forward of the price of Globs during the livestream.

Though I agree that there should be new way to obtain them, such as hard mode dungeon.

I should clarify, if you want a Legendary but don’t have a precursor yet. I hear that is their alternate method of obtaining one, through crafting.

As for MF salvaging, one salvage is not a 1% MF increase, it only increases when the “luck bar” fills. It will take many many many salvages per player to reach the cap.

And like I said that system is not coming out with ascended and is questionable if it will come out at all. You still can’t craft a precursor.
Even if 1 blue = 0.01% of luck bar filled it still does not change the fact that it rains like candy. Trying to get ingredients for my legendary and salvaging everything I would hit that salvage achievement like 2 times a day. Which means that on average I get about 300-400 blues a day if I play long enough.

I never said that I am, did I?
No matter what you do you should at least get 50 blues a day, meaning that buying it off TP is kind of pointless.

So is buying copper, wool, jewels, etc. because you can mine/salvage all you want. But every time I put a stack of crafting mats on the TP it’s gone within an hour.

You’re projecting your own preferences on the other 2-3 million players, most of whom are not logged in for 10 hours a day farming.

Outside of a few consumables, most crafted goods sell for less than cost. Most players see crafting as just a source of XP and get rid of the crafted goods however they can just to get back some of the cost. It seems to me that the devs realized that there will come a time when most people have leveled up their alts and don’t need to craft at all, leading to a crash in the values of crafting mats and goods. They have been doing things to make crafting and crafting mats more relevant and extend the life of this facet of the game.

They aren’t going to reverse their course because a few people don’t like to craft.

My highest level crafting is 170 ish there has been no reason to level it up the TP tends to be cheaper to buy then craft all armor and weapons are easy “getable” though other then gold means.
There is a lot things you can craft in GW2 most of it is pointless sadly this should give a reason for ppl to level up crafting.

The thing is you can get these items from drops too so its not the only way but you can get it from crafting gives a boon to the ppl who like crafting and who works on such things. If your argument is that they are only giving one thing to crater there for its bad you got to start some where and this is a nice start for the crafting community.

This thread is laughable because

a) it takes a puny amount of gold and time to level crafting to 400
b) the actual “crafting” part of crafting an ascended weapon is not significant because you’ll spend far, far, far more time gathering mats
c) ascended weapons are available from other sources
d) pvp players in every single game ever created have a huge sense of entitlement where they feel like they should get the easier version of obtaining anything in the game since they shouldn’t have to do anything but their favorite activity

does anyone actually enjoy the process of crafting (not the money you can make from it, but the process itself)? Is there even one tiny bit of fun to be had while crafting? Listening to conversations about outhouses if you’re in LA doesn’t count.

People who don’t like crafting….

Wait, people actually like crafting?

I don’t know. I see it largely as busy work— nothing but a time sink Unlike certain activities in the game such as wvw which are supposed to be fun in and of itself, I can’t find staring at the crafting menu for 10-20 minutes engaging at all.

The best way to tell if content is good or not, is that if it’s of any engaging value in and of itself. Reward can be part of it, but when it comes to crafting, the only reason to do it is for the reward.

It’s ok though. I’m sure WvW’ers will love being accused of lazy because they don’t want to be forced to do banal pve content in order to catch up. We should make it so that ascended armor is only available by getting materials from wvw world rank chests. That would be totally awesome.

As for the “entitlement” crowd, I’m just going to say that it would be right to accuse people of wanting stuff handed to them (because there’s obviously no medium between forever and immediately) is that you would have a point if this were in any way challenging or required skill. I’m afraid mindless grinding isn’t one of these, though people have frequently confused the two.

What? How dare you consider things like fun and enjoyment.

I never really got into PvP in Rift, for example, because once you reach max level you have to spend the next few months getting stomped on by geared players. You can’t even fight back until you get enough tokens to buy the gear yourself, it’s like fighting a charging rhino with a pointy stick.

Cause you choose to fight the rhino with a pointy stick.
Players could debuff, CCs, run, hide (los), support heals/buffs, capping unguarded points, distractions like attacking Boss in Scion so they might think their Boss is being attacked or ninja crucial cap points not to mainly cap but to slow them down from capping other points or kiting those dpsers away from your healers to buy your healers time to cast or for their cooldown to be up etc etc.
But most lowly geared players only wanna dps and dps is the only thing they’ll do even with a pointy stick.
Always remember.. Those highly geared players was holding the same pointy stick once.

And in RIFT pvp no one are forced to PvE to Max out in Pvp.
Thats what i called Play it your way!
Hell you cant even pvp with pve gear nowadays cause without valor(pvp stats) youre 50% dead already.

edit: I’m a Returning Veteran there.. and i’m starting to love my ex all over again lol!
Cause i dont really like to PvE to maxed out Pvp. My ascended backpiece was my last straw. And i could see where this game is heading.

They should put an ingredient that only drops from wvw world rank chests of rank 101+
Then I’m fine with crafting for ascended weapons.

Ok, tell me how to level up 3 crafting professions in WvW then? And before you give a quick answer, consider the availability of lower tier crafting materials in WvW.

Depending on the level of invaders that you kill, you get different kinds of lootbags. Light, medium, heavy and so on.

They all have crafting materials in them of the different tiers. You can also buy those mats off the tp, last time I checked, there are Trading posts on each map and everything you achieve in wvw, awards gold.

With that gold, you can also buy Legendary Weapons from the TP, that will have your choice of ascended stats.

Problem solved. You are welcome.
