Gear drop: Do you salvage? Sell to vendor? TP?

Crafting mats: Sell as you get them? Save them in your bank in case you need them later? Stack them in your bank to sell at the end of the day/week?

I’m curious about the general and/or most efficient way to deal with drops.

Are you new to the game? If you play for a longer time you’ll do the right thing :-)

I vendor junk and blues, salvage greens and whites with the cheap salvage kit, salvage yellows with at least the mystic salvage kit if they are not more worth than i would get for one ecto on TP. I sell exotics on the TP, cheaper ones (like non-80ies exotics) are salvaged with the black lion salvage kit.

Crafting materials are a bit more complicated to tell, usually selling lower tiers than 5, but with the upcoming ascended armor crafting: hoard what you get, even lower tier mats.

These days, I usually send all t5 mats and lower to collections, sell any/all t6 mats/drops worth more then 2s on the tp, and vender anything else.

I do have a salvomatic but I’m too lazy to salvage and couldn’t care less for magic find.

I also have very little use for mats so every few weeks I empty out all the tabs and sell everything en mass.

I hoard all materials
I salvage rare armours and rare weapons I throw in mystic forge
I sell exotics (or salvage, depending on rune/sigil in them)

I just enjoy collecting T6 mats. I don’t need them for any particular reason.

Sells all my gear drops because RNG does not smile on me.

Salvage blues, sell greens if profitable, salvage or occasionally vendor otherwise, salvage whites usually because of Monthly, sell rares if they are worth a lot on the TP, otherwise salvage or save, usually save Exotics or use them, a few mats I keep stacks of, the rest I sell half or less of the stack on the TP every time they get full…or, in the few cases they aren’t worth more than vendoring, I use them in crafting to convert to another form. It’s always worth it to check the Trading Post…you never know what some things might be worth today! =)

Crafting materials
Keep unless I have more than 250, then I sell them on the TP or to a merchant (whichever is more profitable).

In rare cases I will keep more than that. For example I currently have an extra stack of thick leather because I’ve nearly levelled leatherworker enough to use it. I know I’ll need more than 250 and since it’s only for a short time I don’t mind storing the extra.

Weapons & armor

• If I’m on a character below level 80 I check for stuff I can use first. (My 80 already has a full set of exotics.)
• Then I sell whatever I can on the TP. If it’s worth more than the mechant value (after taxes) I sell it.
• I salvage everything else for the materials/luck.
• Then I sell the runes/sigils.

It’s probably not the most profitable way of doing things, but I don’t want the hassle of working out what to do with each item individually.

Junk (gray) = Vendor
White = Basic Salvage
Blue = Basic Salvage
Green = Basic Salvage
Yellow = Master Salvage
Orange = Equip or Master Salvage

Crafting Materials = Horde like this is the last Green Wood Log or Copper Ore in Tyria. When I get a full stack, I transfer it to my personal Guild Bank.

Unidentified Dyes = Open them all, use on main if they don’t have it, give to 2nd main if they do, sell if 2nd main has it too.

While crafting all the trades to 400 I depleted most of my stacks of low level mats, and since MF isn’t that important to me right now I’m working to replenish my low level mats also slowly converting ascend raw materials to bricks , stars, etc. So I salvage blues, vend whites, and sell greens on the TP, all rares are salvaged with BL salvage kits, ectos are either banked or sold on the TP, same with sigils and runes if I don’t have a need they are vended or sold on the TP.

Exotics are either sold on the TP, equipped if needed or banked for future use, this maintains a reasonable cash flow and allows me to buy items off the TP to equip my toons instead of spending karma for temple armor. In almost a year of playing I might get a exotic drop once every 4- 6 weeks and it’s normally nothing I can use on any of my toons and gets sold.

I might also note that I’m trying to save more than one stack of low level mats just in case the ascended armor either drives the prices up or the armor looks good enough to warrant crafting a few pieces.

As (when) all the crafting trades are capped at 500 it’s going to take a lot of mats of every level to move each one to the grandmaster-craftsman level so crafting ascended gear is possible and who knows what new materials will be added?

Sell White, Blue.
Salvage Green and Yellow.
TP Exotics.
Keep all mats.

I salvage everything under Rare unless it meets the following requirements:
-sells for more than merch value on TP
Rares are salvaged into ecto (mystic salvage kit)
Exotics are considered for sell / salvage depending on market price and if I can use it on any alts. Named drops are almost always sold but offered to Guild mates first.

Any mats are stored except for T5 and T6. Those are all sold, 100% of the time when I’m trying to save up gold for something. If I’m not saving, they are stored as well.

Anything that doesn’t fit in storage gets merch’d or TPd depending.

I just salvage everything lol. I play wvw alot and that is the fastest way for me to clear my inventory every 5 minutes. If I need some gold I just sell whatever materials I have built up in my bank.

Almost 2 months in the game so far. I’ve been doing what I think it’s the right thing, but I wanted to see what everyone else is doing :P

Until a few days ago my rules were:

Salvage green/blue with journeyman, then started having doubts if this kit was worth it.
Rares, if price after fees is higher than 1 ecto -> sell on TP, otherwise mystic salvage kit.
Exotic, sell on TP (I already wear full exotics).
Mats, save all and sell everything every 5~7 days, as I already have 400 on every profession, 500 on Artificer.
Rare sigils from salvaging go to the mystic toilet (I’m lucky with sigils), rare runes go to TP (I’m extremely unlucky with runes)

Yesterday I started selling all blue/green/white gear to vendor, left my magic find at 112%.
