Ok, here my thoughts, and YES i mean it

In my opinion overrated, just look what every single Legendary Weopon needs:

- 500 Dungeon Tokens
- 200 Skill Points
- over half Million!!! Karma
- 120 Gold
- 100% World Completion
- 500 Badges of Honor
- over 3000 rare Mats
- 3 complete Crafting Proffesions
- and on top of it unknown undocumented recipes..

ehm yeah, who is up for that? O_o? just curious
With no End Game Content this means : Grinding = Boring = Frustrating..

ok ok, this is the only thing in this Game which actually NEEDS Grinding, so let it be,
but…. what is the reward we get for this

super!

duper!!

hyper!!!

ultra!!!!

JOHN TRAVOLTA INVESTMENT OF TIME?

aeh,
cool shining looks to stand out and get everyone around you jealous of?

The stats are not that outstanding better, arent they?

So in my opinion (yes now it comes) if i could kill a (small) Zerg in WvW just bymyself with a legendary – weopon, i would even invest 1 million gold coins, and over 1 billion karma

\o/

just imagine, me + legendary weopon = world boss g

yea then ok, but the way this is.. nah ty

Most of them (pretty much all except the 2 greatswords) look like a joke or just not legendary really.
And extreme RNG to obtain the precursor is just bad.

All in all, they’re ok for those who’re willing to go for it.

Just who the hell do you think I am!?

The only problem I have with them is that there’s only one legendary for each weapon, which means we don’t have much of a choice. I realize that there goes a lot of work into designing and making legendary weapons, but there should have been at least two legendary of each weapon from the beginning. I’m just looking forward to seeing new legendary weapons at some point.

I will not likely ever go for one myself, but I think that’s the point. They will probably always be somewhat rare, and I think that’s a good thing.

On the other hand, other than a couple of them (maybe only one, to be honest), I’m not really impressed with the graphics. Twilight looks freaking AWESOME, and actually makes me think that one day… maybe… but I’m honestly not tempted AT ALL to go for any of the others. They just aren’t that special.

The are LEGENDARY weapons dude.

They are not a requirement for you to get. They are a very slight upgrade from the exotics, and in a game where gear does not matter much anyway.

They are there for you to get over time, its for those people who play this game for years and years to come.

Just like GW1, its still kicking around and there are still players going at it, they want GW2 to be the same, with lots of people playing for a very long time.

I don’t expect to get a legendary any time soon, and Im not pissing in my boots over it. Play the game and enjoy it, if you rushed through every piece of content available, well then just wait for an expansion pack or something.

Also, would you REALLY be happy if those “Legendary” weapons would be just some common thing?

Nifty looks… for some not all. Honestly, I like the CoE rifle over the predator, but that’s just me (not sure what “nifty” effect the pred-rifle has).

There’s no real prestige to them other than gratz on going farm-frenzy. When I think legendary, I think Thunderfury…. hard to obtain the pieces and a unique event for forging it. Not saying low drop rates > farm frenzy… but the idea that it’s hard to get and there’s something truly special about it makes the item Legendary.

Also, for engineers that mainly use kits…. these weapons are super worthless except running around Lion’s Arch (assuming I’m not swapping between kits to keep my speed buff up)…. Because the particle effects and even the stats themselves are restricted to the weapon only. Even if they adjusted the kits, not sure it’d go for it.

there are easier ways of getting 500 badges, namely doing the jumping puzzles daily, on all 5 chars. Ofc it becomes more difficult if the server you are in little wvw presence. I heard you get 5 badges per jumping puzzle per char, so with 3 puzzles that’s 15, then with all 5 chars that’s 75 you can get potentially in 1 day. with that in mind, you only need to spend 6.6 days (ok 7 :P) to get to 500 badges so its really not so bad imo.

I would make Legendaries more legendary by:

1- Changing the finisher animation in pvp to something that uses the legendary I am using. I.E. I stab my target with a greatsword with fancy lights to go with it or cut my enemies throat with the legendary dagger (maybe a bit too graphic for this game?); or suck their soul out if im using a staff.

2- Affecting the particle effects of a class, I.E. guardian fire could become black, green etc. Mesmers butterflies could become something else or change color.

3- Unique emotes.

Eh the imagination is the limit here, but I wont keep posting my ideas.

As it stand now Legendaries are only a legendary grind. I will get one eventually, but they carry more of a ’meh" than a “wow” factor.

It’s sick imo if folks grind for it and just do that but hey to each their own.
For me it’s a long term achievement and just that, I won’t be actively pursuing it, just hoard the mats that I’ll collect while playing the game anyways.
Maybe I’ll have it in 3 months from now or maybe in a a year or so I don’t care.
I also disagree that there’s no end game content, it has enough to do for me at max. level and actually more than every other mmo I played since 1999, but there’s already too many discussions about that.

This sums up my thoughts as well. Some of the designs look brilliant whilst others are clearly appealing to a certain target audience. I’m not fond of the shortbow, yet with no alternative design there’s no point me bothering to get one at all.

The requirements to make them are pretty step, but then some people already made them and that’s just a month from the game’s release. I think it’s certainly doable as a long term goal even for casuals. The only thing I’d change is the random aspects of making the precursor and the mystic clovers.

I like the fact that those weapons are hard to get, hence the “Legendary” title but I think the mats for them are a little too much.

I don’t have the time to be glued to my computer 5hrs a day like I used in GW1, so for someone like me that plays very little every day, it’s nearly impossible to get one of those and I give credit to the people that invest the time and resources to get them but in my opinion, is way to much for a pretty skin.

Besides, the only one I like is the Longsword with the night motive.

For Sword/Axe dualist you need over 3M karma, around 600 gold, 6000 mats etc etc etc.

Yawn. The game isn’t social enough to pimp legendary gear to anyone, that satisfaction you get on parading around your very hard won gear just doesn’t exist in this game. There also are not any raids to functionally utilize that new gear, so that’s out, even if they didn’t mainly concentrate on looks.

What MMO’s are missing these days are truly unique and “hard” to get gear that not everyone has. I miss those days of standing on the docks in a MMO and seeing that guy walk by with the flaming sword on a horse and being completely flabbergasted and inspired to one day have them. Yeah it sounds funny to some of you guys who didn’t play MMO’s when they were first released, but it was one of the most incredible cool moments in playing MMO’s.

Not worth it. I had initially decided to slowly work towards getting the Ponybow, but a combination of the RNG and profiteering associated with the precursors, the soulbound on use rather than Account-bound on acquire state of them, and an increasing feeling of disconnect with the game and community in general has pushed me to the point of just saying “**** it.”
If you could reasonably pursue them and still have a chance to accomplish/earn other things of interest as you go, I could probably tolerate it. But essentially requiring a dedicated effort with no chance to feel like you’re getting something along the way kills it. They just aren’t worth it for the hassle they require. Honestly, no singular reward of that nature would be.

I am not a big fan of PvP/WvW, but I can understand why it’s in there. I sometimes actually enjoy WvW when it’s well organized and not a giant zerg. The idea behind obtaining legendary weapons is that one must master all aspects of the game, which the recipe and especially Gift of Mastery does thoroughly. I absolutely love this idea, test the player in all categories. Skill points, Karma, Gold, PVP/WvW, World Exploration, Dungeons (admittedly, imo, should be more than only one specific dungeon per legendary), and even Luck (clovers). However the step I hate is the RNG aspect of the precursor. It’s either dump items for an extremely rare chance or buy it from the TP where it is monopolized. Even the clover random chance gives back T6 mats which are needed in the recipe so you really don’t lose. Anyway, I’m not going to continue ranting about it because I hate flame wars. My philosophy and I hope it matches Anet: Legendary weapons should be awarded when a player demonstrates they have mastered the game and put in the necessary time and dedication to truly earn it. And are not solely reserved for the top .01% who can afford it nor limited in number of availability. We each payed money for the game, we each earn an equal opportunity to achieve this pinnacle.

To insure people don’t misinterpret my comment. I’m not saying it should be easy. I’m saying that the way the recipe is built (all but the RNG precursor) requires a mastery of the game. This mastery required, in itself, will make the legendary weapons truly legendary, both in demonstration of achievements and rarity of those who completed them.

I am in no way saying or asking for an “easier” means to obtain a precursor, just a solid, non-shifting one. I am, however, saying the current RNG system for precursors is flawed and doesn’t fit in with the rest of the recipe. There will be people on both sides of this argument, some are already invested in the precursor market and don’t wish for it to change. However, I feel that a set recipe of some kind would be beneficial. People would be able to see the light at the end of the tunnel instead of wondering around aimlessly trying to find it (aka moral).*

I understand that there is a BIG difference between what people think should be vs. what actually is. If the current RNG system is what Anet stands behind, so be it, it won’t stop me. However, the only way for Anet to listen and change is if their customers speak up, and I bet the vast majority would agree with me.

Edit: Just an FYI to those confused, the stats on Legendary weapons are identical to Exotics. It’s the skin that sets it apart.

I’d be amenable to 2000 Tokens or 5000 Tokens — whatever is judged the approximate equivalent in time and effort. Yes, both PvE and PvP are aspects of the game. But it’s been made pretty evident over the last decade or so that these two play styles are incredibly different in MMOs. That separation is respected for the vast majority of the game. It should be extended it to the long game as well, which is really all what legendaries are — GW2’s long game.

Actually let me correct/clarify one thing. It’s WvW not PvP (I’m unsure if you are awarded badges of honor in PvP). However, you don’t have to kill or siege the enemy, you could just do the jumping puzzles and repeat with each character. This was stated earlier on and a viable means to “bypass” the “PvP” (WvW) requirement. Now why is this a requirement if it can be “bypassed”? I’m not 100% sure, but it does guarantee each person with a legendary has at least tried it. Furthermore, you do need to explore the WvW boarderlands (yes each one, three total) and all of the eternal battle grounds in order to achieve full map completion. Which can be hard for a server who’s bad at WvW because you can only get to certain places if your color controls them.

Well, considering they are not a numerical upgrade to the otherwise quite easy to achieve exotics, I do not see a problem with this. Those things were put into the game, specifically to appease the grinding crowd, who enjoy working towards something like that, and although I don’t see me doing it myself, I find that totally reasonable.

That being said, it is not even that much of a barrier, at least if you listen to the guys who already made some of those.

TLDR: It is a prestige thing. If you feel it is too much for you, don’t do it, problem solved.
