What race do you want playable?
Largos, complete with an underwater town.

Largos, complete with an underwater town.
Yes. This all day, and possibly errday.
I would love dredge and hylek playable, but I think it’s going to be a while. I’m still hoping tengu will be soon. My issue with playable largos is they’re supposed to be a rare and seclusive race.
But Dredge, hylek, and tengu those all would be great.
Tengu, and Kodan. They both tend to be popular choices when this question is presented. I just find the character design, and lore to be fascinating. I also am intrigued about the potential for how their involvement would be tied into why they are helping the five currently playable races alliance.
With the kodan they, like the Norn have faced the wrath of Jormag and would be interesting to see them join the fight to retake their homeland, and the tengu, a very insulated race, seem to be poised to be in peril from mordremoth. I’m curious to see what kind of destruction they would hvae to face before allowing themselves to open up their gates, as zhatain seemingly wasn’t enough of a problem.

If they just gave us the Largos, and the city was in an area near where we have, I probably wouldn’t be too happy about it. But I wouldn’t be surprised if they were more common somewhere, so I could see them working things in such a way that would make sense. (Which is not to say I expect them to, though I certainly hope they revisit them in some way).

I am intrigued (no pun intended) by the Largos, and they would be first choice – HOWEVER, I also realize this will remove the mystery behind their culture (and therefore their allure), so I would also be the first to say anet shouldn’t make them playable.
My next choice is Tengu, but only if they’re not limited to ranged rangers (which I don’t see anet doing, given they made all races equally effective at all professions up to now).
Any. I’d much prefer Largos over all others, but this far into the game’s release I would take absolutely any of them and be thankful.

I’d like the Skritt myself. They just seem like they would a lot of fun to play.
You’re so vain, You probably think this post is about you.
Largos, complete with an underwater town.
I like the way you think!
I completely forgot about the Largos which seems very interesting. Whichever new race they choose it would need to be fairly advanced to stand alongside the other Tyrian races. I think theres enough mystery behind the Largos/Tengu to create a compelling backstory and open up new territory to explore.
Tengu. Centaur.
1.) Hylek
2.) Tengu
3.) Kodan
4.) Skritt
5.) Dwarves
I don’t care if they sell them as unlockable on the Gem Store, Living Story, or in an Expansion. I would just love to have access to them.

Here we go again. Time for the copy-paste reply:
Forget anything that is a studyable race in the LS. Thats Ogres, Skritt, Hylek, Grawl, Quaggans.
Forget any of the antagonist races/factions. That would be Centaurs (plus, how would they swim?), Nightmare Court, Flame Legion, Inquest, Svanir.
Largos are out as, according to the personal story, they are incredibly rare and avoid contact with all other races if at all possible. It would be as stupid as the Miqo’te in FF14 ARR – they’re supposedly rare and solitary creatures yet the designers make them in such a way that EVERYONE who faps to nekomimi will roll one.
What does this leave us? Kodan, Tengu, Ettin and a handful of others which have groups who are non-antagonistic. Kodan is out right away, they are Norn-based. Tengu are possible but require a very specific armour redesign and we can see what a mess Anet made of Charr armour. Ettin would be fun, but they don’t wear clothes so we can forget them.
Personally, I want to see playable Ooze, but I know it’ll never happen.
Risen, I want an undead thief to add to my collection of thieves.
Every time I see one of these threads pop up, have to say the time thing:
I’d like to see Dwarves or Kodan.
I expect to see Tengu.
Largos.
I’d buy a char slot to make one.
Centaur……has that ever been possible in an MMO?
Aesthetically great -looking…….designing them during character creation would be a blast.
….and for those clamoring for mounts, you could pretend.
MARA (EU) Gunnar’s Hold
I like the idea of largos but since EVERYBODY or a large portion of the community hates water combat i’d say go for Tengu.
I really don’t want another NORN like race with a polar bear costume and animations from norn bear elite skill.
Largos and tengu, though I’d understand if largos never made it as a playable race for lore reasons (or for ‘underwater combat still sucks’ reasons).
I’d like to see dwarves come back, though that’s another one I can understand being ruled out because lore.
We have an sub-terrain race (Asura), terra race (Humans, Charr, Norns), and we have plant race (Sylvari). Only niche for life that hasn’t been filled as of yet is an Aqua race or Amphibian race that wouldn’t require an breather, but they might require an air breather of they are purely aqua race, which can replace the current breather.
Of course everyone wants to see multiple different races come to life in the game, some are evil and some are not evil, there is even some that are in middle of civil war to determine if they be on the side of good or bad. This could play out as an living story line where they introduce an new race, with special events involved. Without further ado, here are all the potential races that have come to light!
Potential Playable Races
Terra Races
- Kodans
- Grawl
- Tengus
- Centaurs
Amphibian Races
- Hyleks
- Largos
Aqua Races
- Quaggans
Sub-terrain Races
- Dwarfs
- Skritt
- Dredge
I’d really love to play a Tengu.
Largos are kind of neat too, but I really, really hate water combat, and with the exception of a couple of classes, underwater skills suck. Unless they did a total overhaul of the terribad skills some classes have, I couldn’t see an aquatic race being a feasible option, given that the race’s zones would likely have to be aquatic.

Largos avoid land-dweller, but they aren’t necessarily rare. If the deep sea dragon appears, they could play an important role.
An advantage of the largos is their human-like body structure, amor skins that look good on humans/norn/sylvari will also look good on largos. (most likely)
Animal themed races like tengu, centaur, dredge or hylek would have difficulties with this subject. The charr are a good example here (as you already mentioned).
An other advantage is the mystery, we know very little about this race, so there is (maybe) much to discover.
besides i don’t know any mmo with playable aquatic races, therefore the largos can be an interesting choice.
as for myself i would like to see Largos as a playable race.

Terra Races

Amphibian Races

Sub-terrain Races
I edited your list to remove all the ones that are competely nonsensical and impossible to have as potential playable races. You really ought to read previous posts before you reply.
None of the ‘study’ races are possible. None of the direct antagonists such as centaurs are possible (and how would centaurs swim?).
So what is left? Kodan – too close to Norn. Largos – would make no sense from a lore perspective.
That leaves Tengu which will be difficult to make/adapt armour for.
Would very much like Largos and Tengu, or perhaps Anet has a surprise in store and we get something completely new. Patiently Waiting…
Honesty is not insulting, stupidity is.

One other thing about Largos, they have a master/student theme. It’d be somewhat easy to get them into something like the personal story structure.
If not Largos though, I suppose Tengu. They seem more interesting than the rest.
Risen, I want an undead thief to add to my collection of thieves.
Kinda surprised there’s only one vote for this so far.
Why wouldn’t the death of Zhaitan perhaps leave a few of the undead with free will? Seems reasonable to me, and while it’s been done before the undead are usually mighty, mighty popular amongst players, creative or not…
Personally, though, I’d pay for a Skritt.
Largos (just out of interest) & Tengu mainly since the lore actually fits them & there could be so many pretty avian humanoids running around.
…Krait…I like them
Forget any of the antagonist races/factions. That would be Centaurs (plus, how would they swim?),
I imagine the same way bears and canines swim in GW2 now.
Kodans!!!!! And have them exactly as the EotM Forge transform is. THAT is some fun right there.
Its a fact that many people say they want Kodans to be playable. However I have to ask – how exactly would you make them customizable from one character to the next? They’re all the same….

The Charr and Tengue in GW1 were pretty much the same, respectively.
ANet could work around any lore or character model issue.
True, the Charr did evolve and became more varied in appearance.
But how do you change the look of a were-polar bear?
Centaur……has that ever been possible in an MMO?
Aesthetically great -looking…….designing them during character creation would be a blast.….and for those clamoring for mounts, you could pretend.
I completely support this, as I’ve wanted playable centaurs since GW1.
Like with the charr, I could see an eventual truce between the two races. I mean, part of the reason the Harathi and Tamini war with the humans is out of fear of the Modniir. Being the largest and strongest tribe, the Modniir essentially intimidate the lower tribes to go to the front lines against the humans (even the other races at this point). Some of the centaurs have even admitted that with humans and charr now allies, they stand absolutely no chance against the combined forces (charr firepower especially). They need a truce if they’re to survive at all. With Ulgoth the Mighty now dead, the other tribes may not feel as… motivated to continue fighting against the humans (and charr, as well). Centaurs need to play it smart at this point.
And for all the neigh-sayers (yes, I did that), I think they’d look about as normal underwater as a ranger’s pet bear, panther, or other quadruped. Jumping puzzles admittedly would be a problem, though they could just make their front legs act as the landing point.
I just like how centaurs are portrayed in the GW lore. Everything from their appearance to their culture is really interesting. They’re also quite intelligent, and are as capable of being warriors and rangers as they are of being engineers and mages. I’d totally roll a centaur or two or three if they were brought in as playable. Not to mention that there’s little — if any — MMO’s that have create-able centaurs.
Now I’m well aware that it’s highly unlikely that they’ll be introduced, but the OP simply asked what we’d like to see as a playable race. I’d like to see centaurs.
Right there with you, Seabreeze.
1. Tengu
2. Krait/Naga/Forgotten
3. Skritt
I want to play as a Grumble Cake
1. Charr, in all their glory, instead of as the buggy and neglected
2. Roll Skritt, yes?
3. The Molariat shall rise and overthrow the oppressors!
4. Centaurs.
Quaggan.
There, i’ve said it.
Give us Mounts, Anet! Pretty Please with Chocolate, Whipped Cream, Cherry and Mayonnaise? d^_^b
Charr.
(…okay, tengu.)
Tengu are really the only race that are likely to fit right in. Kodan would be doable, but they’d need to something to distinguish individuals. Centaurs would be ok (the fact that the ones we have met are antagonistic so far is no more of a block than the presence of the Inquest is a block for Asurans) if it weren’t for jumping puzzles.
If underwater combat were more enjoyable I would love to see an expansion specifically for quaggans. Don’t get me wrong, GW2 has made a pretty good fist of underwater combat, it’s just the whole moving in three dimensions thing that makes it awkward.
What are the Largos? Are they those Emo Dark Elf Manta Ray guys?
I’d like Tengu. The character creator if they brought back the different bird types for them would be amazing. There were some amazing different types in GW1.
Largos, complete with an underwater town.
Yes. This all day, and possibly errday.
Yesssssss! With customizable wings.

Tengu – They’ve been around since the original GW1 release. They have their own areas and city, and have a well established history and Lore that doesn’t require wasting time reinventing the wheel.
Centaurs – They have also been around since the original GW1 release. They have a well established lore just like the Tengu do, and the lore supports that they aren’t 100% a totally evil race like the Krait are (and like the charr were originally). How would they swim? A question people keep asking like they know everything. Well, my super intelligent friends, I imagine that centaurs would swim in the same way that any other horse or any creature with hooves can swim. Yes, yes, I know its ridiculous, the thought that horses can swim, but no more crazy than having all cat species swim like its second nature (Including the Charr, but with the exception of the Lynx, a Cat that is documented with photo evidence, to swim quite often)
Okay, that’s all.
I’m shocked at how long it took for someone to point out that horses actually can swim.
I’m less interested in a new race than I am a new profession. But I’d love largos to become playable. Kodan for the lore and naming conventions. I love Kodan names SO. MUCH.

Because we can’t be angry about both?

At the end of the day, I would honestly prefer a new weapon (or 2 new weapons to make 5 new weapon skills total) for every profession, since basically every archetype imaginable is already taken by the 8 professions that exist.
I think humanoid races are more possible. Tengu, kodan or largos…
Hyleks, skritts and quaggans are animals rather than humanoids.

I agree with most of this- I’d love the “all weapons for all classes” that was discussed last year- but I do have to say that I’d like a third heavy-armor class.

Largos, complete with an underwater town.

+1 for Largos!
Tengu are cool and all, and I find them interesting. But I really don’t get why they seem to be the most popular choice for a new playable race. It would certainly be a fairly unique experience to play one of an anthropomorphic bird people though!
For the toast!
