So I can make anything else than human or norm?

No offense but the Sylavri are unsettling to me. And the Asura are a little creepy… except a few. And Charr… are Charr.

1.) Hylek
2.) Tengu
3.) Kodan
4.) Skritt
5.) Dwarves

I don’t care if they sell them as unlockable on the Gem Store, Living Story, or in an Expansion. I would just love to have access to them.

A.Net already said – Hylek and Skritt would not be playable.

Dwarves are dead (turned to stone – meaning no longer dwarves – see EotN in GW1) – only one left alive (Ogden Stonehammer). All the Stone Summit are dead.

Maybe Kodan or Tengu but since we are going to Maguuma Jungle in LS2, I put my money on Tengu (since they already have a presence in LA and in Caledon Forest).

Kodan would be more towards going North in the Shiverpeaks, which we may eventually do. The only problem with Kodan is they all look the same to me (what a racist thing to say :-) ).

I do not want them to be unlockable in the Gem Store as they would be the same as ESO with the Imperial Race and that would be unseemly.

I’d buy another slot for Tengu or Skritt. How great would it be if Skritt had a racial that gave them Might stacks based on the number of adjacent players?

-20 for Largos. I haven’t seen one positive representation of them in GW2. Say no to evil waterdrow. Even the Ettins and Ogres occasionally are friendly and need help. (Ogres with “pet” racials? They’re all basically rangers anyway.)

I’d like to see Kodan, but they have no racial home at the moment, and they’re too proximal to Norn. Out of the entire wishlist, Tengu look incredibly likely.

Many alts; handle it!

Actually the Largos are friendly, they’re just rare and avoid other races whenever possible

Edit, I mean there are literally only 2 encounters of Largos we actively have to stop, one in brisbane and one in snowden drifts, and the way they set up who they are set to kill is pretty specific, so they may have actually had a reason to attack the sylvari/kodan claw.

Out of maybe 3 appearances total, two are kittenface’d assassins killing innocents. The other is Trahearne’s “associate”. The sin of being Trahearne’s anything is weight enough. =P But after that, she’s all “debt paid, gg, l8r” and was never anything interesting as a character. So.. nope on the Largos.

There are a full 10 appearances of largos. 1 is trahearns friend, and neither of them are bad npcs, but that’s a different thread. 7 of them are killing krait and risen or helping other races. and only 2 of them are jerks, which is still a maybe. They’re a friendly race

Let me see here, They most likely will do Tengu, since it almost already happened but where cut. Largos can be done, but given that they are underwater they would need to total reward water combat, but still a possibility. Also not sure where people get that they are rare? They just seam to stay away from land races and live deep in the ocean, they could be add when the Bubblez is added someday. The Kodan could be done as well as Centaur but that would take some creative work. A few others, Undead(jokos undead, different from Risen), Naga, Forgotten,Frogman,Grawl,Harpy, Seer, warden, Yeti, and Dredge. Of course given the creative insight that Anet has, i am sure they could come up with some brand new races as well.

But the first race i am pretty Sure will be Tengu.

I’m sure in a world full of magic ANet could find a way around the dwarfs being turned to stone especially considering we have the Asura. Turning to “stone form” would make a great elite ability too. The entire story surrounding “saving the dwarfs” could be awesome. They do have the knowledge and experience fighting Primordus after all. However, I suspect if we go that route it could be sometime before we actually get them in game.

Now that I think about it releasing a new playable race or two with each dragon would be pretty cool.

Tengu with Mordremoth
Dwarfs with Primordus
Kodan with Jormag
Largos with Bubbles
??? with Kralkatorrik

I think it’s important to remember ANet is pretty imaginative and if they want something to happen they will find a way to make it work. They do control the entire GW2 universe after all. I’m not saying just because they can that they will. I’m just saying ANYTHING is possible in an imaginary world. Personally, I feel like every serious suggestion on this thread actually could have a chance of getting into the game at some point. Now obviously ones that require less time, energy, and money to produce (see armor redesigns, personal story, and capital cities) are the most likely.

There are two major issues I see with adding in a new race.

- Customizable in almost every aspect (facial features, body shape, etc.) So right off the bat, that eliminates almost every race listed; Tengu, Hylek, Skritt, etc. If Anet didn’t spend time making each one of X race dramatically different from one another, it isn’t likely to become a playable race.

- Capital cities and surrounding areas. I understand that there is some room on the map for a race to establish it’s capital, but after all that plus lore and all the other good stuff, there probably won’t be enough room to establish 1-10 zones, 10-25 zones, and so on and so forth. Unless people are fine with only having 2-3 zones to level the new race, this is probably not going to stick.

This is true and it’s a shame if them not adding dwarfs is just because they want to be different. I do think the demand for new races will eventually set in for ANet and they will cash in. However, what races those may consist of is really anyones guess.

The Two races that would be the easiest for Anet to do, is Well Tengu and Largos, Why they already though about the Tengu but they ended getting cut and the Largos would be easy to do because they are pretty much like humans in body style so in theory it would take less time to do them. Also they have already pretty much setup both these races to be playable.

Define easiest?

Because Tengu would require the same difficulties as the charr presented in the armor redesign. That would mean every single piece of armor (outside of cultural) would have to be redesigned to fit their unique body type (I still want them as playable though) Lore wise? Yes, they fit perfectly imo.

Largos would be pretty simple in terms of armor for reasons you stated.

Dwarfs are an easy armor redesign but would require some creative story telling to bring them back.

Kodan, Skritt, and Quaggan need more diversity in appearance and armor re designs to fit their unique body types. Skritt may be a bit easier than the others.

Centaurs would require fairly substantial armor re skinning and would need a lot of work to make their underwater combat look even reasonable.

Tengu – They’ve been around since the original GW1 release. They have their own areas and city, and have a well established history and Lore that doesn’t require wasting time reinventing the wheel.

Centaurs – They have also been around since the original GW1 release. They have a well established lore just like the Tengu do, and the lore supports that they aren’t 100% a totally evil race like the Krait are (and like the charr were originally). How would they swim? A question people keep asking like they know everything. Well, my super intelligent friends, I imagine that centaurs would swim in the same way that any other horse or any creature with hooves can swim. Yes, yes, I know its ridiculous, the thought that horses can swim, but no more crazy than having all cat species swim like its second nature (Including the Charr, but with the exception of the Lynx, a Cat that is documented with photo evidence, to swim quite often)

Okay, that’s all.

Tigers and Maine kitten housecats also swim with regularity.

Agreed with the Tengu being next.

Plus I really want to play as a Tengu so I’m good with this. I don’t really care much for the Largos. They are just so obscure and don’t really have a large presence in the game. Plus, I’m not a big fan of their dark elf meets giant butterfly look. So I may be a little bias.

Tengu has been top of my wish-list since the GW: Factions preview event. Which was over eight years ago so yes, I’ve been waiting a while. (They were interesting mobs in Prophecies too but back then I didn’t expect ArenaNet to do anything much with them.)

I don’t honestly expect them to show up without some kind of solution to the armor problem. I know armor is going to look worse than the problems with charr otherwise – although I would take them regardless and just avoid those skins – but it wouldn’t make for good press for sure. Still, people continue to ask for better-functioning armor for charr, and it should be technically possible to fix – so I’m not giving up yet…

Largos are also interesting. I know people have concerns about their “mystique”, and they might be right, but so far I wouldn’t mind seeing more of them.

Gryphons! … okay, second to that, the Tengu.

As a new ranger pet, that would be nice, actually. They’re not going to be playable though.

The other thing about dwarves is anet outright said, they don’t want dwarves to be to prominent, as dwarves and elves are already pretty much staples of other fantasy games, and they’re trying to be different.

Yeah, Guild Wars 2 innovates so much by having a quintessential race of giants (whose only distinguishing feature from regular humans is that they can partially morph into animals), and a quintessential ‘short and cute/child-like’ race. And to be fair, the Sylvari originally looked like Elves with a few plant-like features, instead of their current plant creatures with hardly any elf-like features. And to be doubly fair, the Dwarves in GW1 were pretty much a mirror copy of the Dwarves of Middle Earth, and Anet was wise to get rid of them….by making them turn into stone, which just brings the middle earth similarity come full circle, just backwards.

Its not all bad, as Guild Wars 2 does innovate with the current Sylvari and Charr. Sylvari because they are entirely plant based(despite ruining much of that when Anet started explaining some of the physical features they have, but physically shouldn’t need), and Charr because the females actually look like what a female member of a beast race should look like (instead of a hyper sexualized human female with horns, cat ears, and a tail.)

I don’t want any more playable races because it will just take resources away from making stuff for the rest of the races. Just look at Charr and Asura: Anet already has enough problems porting armor to these races. Adding another race is just going to throttle model development even further.

Its perfectly acceptable in a fantasy MMORPG for dwarves to be turned to stone but it is then impossible for that to change? Interesting.

Krait are an outright evil race, so they’re out. Naga would require cantha, so it’s possible, but with lack of feet, I’d still say unlikely, unless they get a tail ornament which I can’t see anet doing. Forgotten, I forget their lore, but I think that’s less likely than naga.
As for largos. lore wise it wouldn’t make sense for them to be playable, but I, and a lot of others, like their aesthetics.

Yeah, even though I’d love a serpentoid playable race, I agree that the current way the Krait have been written leaves them no real wriggle room for being “good”.

The most likely candidate would be the Naga, if a Canthan expansion were to be released. (The Tengu could become a playable race in the same expansion. “Retake our ancestral homeland!”) The Naga were not always hostile to humanity, after all; they only turned to raiding to survive after their traditional homes and hunting grounds were destroyed by the Jade Wind.

I’d love to play a Forgotten, but I think they’re too steeped in lore as movers behind the scenes to be a good playable race.

I’m not too keen on the idea of Largos as a playable race, although I appreciate that many players would like it. I just feel that a big part of the appeal of the Largos is due to their mystique and rarity. That appeal would be quickly lost once you started seeing a Largos on every street (or wearing some hideous multi-colored rainbow suit).

Besides, those wings would be a clipping nightmare for the armor artists. Charr players already complain about clipping for their tail, and that’s set low on the body and have only a single point of contact. It would be much, much worse for the Largos.

I understand that in GW1 the “Krait” we saw were also in the same zone as dinosaurs were in a sort of “Lost World” aspect. but Still. In terms of looks right now the Krait look more like the Naga do from GW1…perhaps a sub species?

Anyways even if Anet wanted to do it Dwarves would be very difficult to fit into being playable race since all the dwarves are now part of “The Great Dwarf” (http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Great_Dwarf).

For Centaurs, I believe there is far to much bad blood between the major tribes to ever consider allying with Humans for any reason. It would take a massive change in mentality for them to become playable lorewise.

I think Ogres would be closer to playable than Centaurs, since we already have several instances of friendly Ogres. The only friendly Centaurs are exiles and even then you can almost feel the bad blood between them and humans. However they all seem to be rangers of some kind which would be very difficult to play off lore wise as not having their pet. All things considered I’d just be happy if we got the ability to charm some pets that the ogres already know how to… Like Raptors and Gryphons (Although I think raptors need a rework in general as they are way to similar to moas). Also they have already been classified as a “Minor Race” [SPOILER ALERT]which the player can choose to help during their personal story if their race doesn’t openly hate them.[END SPOILER]

Hylek while openly I don’t see a problem with them being playable they would need an overhaul to their uniqueness as most look almost identical save for coloring and a handful of outfits. Also they are already considered a “Minor Race”.

Skritt would require a very serious overhaul as there are very few “Unique” types of skritt. Also Skritt have a tendency to run around with large crates. While it can be said they are engineers, we also know they have a sort of pseudo hive mind going on and those are always odd to try and explain when you throw player perspective into it. Also considered a “Minor Race”.

The Grawl and Quaggan also suffer from the “Minor Race” tag as well as the potential need to be heavily reworked to fit.

Someone mentioned risen earlier and all things consider it might be possible. Not Zhaitan’s risen mind you but minions of Palawa Joko perhaps? Food for thought. During GW1 they openly showed independent thought from their master. Whether that was just because Palawa Joko was weak or not I don’t really know.

Kodan would technically be possible however there is very little uniqueness in their character designs. Also I don’t think they will make it due to a certain other game that shall not be named and their release of a bear like playable race (As panda’s are not bears >.>)

The Tengu wouldn’t be that difficult to integrate, despite what someone mentioned previously as their stance is very similar to the char. It would just be a matter of mesh tweaks to get it to fit snugly on their forms. My vote is for the Tengu personally as they already have a known major city, one that can easily tie into a starter zone with a bit of tweaking (Caledon Forest) or they can squeeze one in inside their walls and between Southsun and Claw Island. The Tengu are in the best position for next playable. It is just a matter of will Anet do it or not.

The Largos are an interesting one. It could be possible they become playable when it comes down to the “Major Alliances of Races” and the Pact to take on Bubbles… as a sort of Hey let us help take our land back.

Dwarves are dead (turned to stone – meaning no longer dwarves – see EotN in GW1) – only one left alive (Ogden Stonehammer). All the Stone Summit are dea d.

-Bolded to show.-
Am I the only one that is amused when people make statements like this?

Its perfectly acceptable in a fantasy MMORPG for dwarves to be turned to stone but it is then impossible for that to change? Interesting.

EDIT: No matter how many times I edit it correctly, its not fixing the error.

It is because the last ‘d’ in ‘dead’ of the person you quoted, and the ‘Am I the’ of your sentence spells a misspelled curse word. Bolded it to highlight the word and added some words to separate their quote from yours. ‘kitten’ filter hard at work on that one considering there was a period and line breaks separating the letters.

The dwarves have a more pressing matter at hand and in their current form they are far more effective (even if they have very little actual effect) at holding back the tide of dragon minions. As for the “spell” they used and a possible way to reverse it… They have no reason to do that. from the GW1 wiki “The Great Dwarf, although worshiped as a god, is a collective consciousness. When King Jalis Ironhammer performed the Rite of the Great Dwarf and linked the minds of the Dwarves, they fulfilled the prophecy within the Tome of Rubicon.” This was basically their “Armageddon”. The end time for dwarves as we knew them.

Another note is what King Jalis said near the end of the story as well. “The Dwarves shall be transformed, forevermore! We will become living weapons who exist solely to defeat our ancestral foe.” That foe is the destroyers, though it could potentially mean Primordus himself as well. I believe this was around the time the dwarves were changed but I was having difficulty actually finding confirmation on that.

Also just as a side note, Ogden was turned to stone as well. hes not a normal dwarf. they actually did have normal skin color in GW1.

IF you played EotN – from WIKI.

" With the Stone Summit’s defeat, the Dwarves unearthed the Tome of Rubicon and a prophecy foretelling their race’s doom was discovered. This prophecy saw itself fulfilled in 1078 AE when the Destroyers began to rise from the Depths of Tyria, led by the Great Dwarf’s ancient foe, the Great Destroyer.

In order to combat the threat, Jalis Ironhammer and several Dwarves moved to the Far Shiverpeaks and performed the Rite of the Great Dwarf. Through the rite, the Dwarves were transformed into stone and had their minds linked, becoming the Great Dwarf as a collective consciousness. The Dwarves fulfilled the prophecy of the Great Dwarf destroying his old nemesis when they had defeated the Destroyer threat after undergoing the rite.1

After the war against the Great Destroyer, Duncan the Black, the new leader of the Stone Summit, attempted to harness the power of the recently slain Great Destroyer’s soul, but was killed before his plan could succeed.

Eventually, all Dwarves undertook the Rite of the Great Dwarf.2"

So the Dwarfs are no longer Dwarfs but like the Skritt, a collective conscious. That is why they will not be playable.

Unless people are fine with only having 2-3 zones to level the new race, this is probably not going to stick.

http://wiki.guildwars.com/images/thumb/e/e6/Tengu_concept_art.jpg/800px-Tengu_concept_art.jpg You were saying about tengu?

fixed

And this would be so awesome.

You guys are forgetting one thing: ANet clearly stated pre-release that Tengu was being designed as a playable race ( their captial also created in the DoW, next to LA ), models of weapons and armours fitted, but in the end, they decided to release only the races we have now.

So, I’m pretty sure that once they finally relase a new race ( hope so!!! ), it will definitely be the Tengu.

Three 80-lvl Rangers. Why? ‘Cos they’re that cool.
