Guild Wars 2

I’ve already seen threads talking about the Kodan and Tengu, but there are so many races that i’d love to play like such as the Frogs (Hylek i think? Sorry i’m a newbie to the lore and GW2 Lore).

What race that is not the Kodan or Tengu would you like to play as?

A dwarf. I know there are still some around. At least one. Which I can play. :p

The Skritt rat people in Lions Gate, The frog people in Lions Gate, Dwarfs would also be a fine choice but overdone I think.

Tengu.

Though looking around a bit and doing some research, that seems to be likely. Shou in Celadon Forest talks of an Asura Gate being build in Lions Arch for thier people, and thier Dominion of the Wind is right next to a 15+ leveling zone. Looks like the humans will get some visitors in Kessex Hills soon enough. Now if we could get an Asian themed heavy armored profession (like samurai) or purhaps something monk like (using staffs for melee) to accompany them.

Tengus…just because of the nostalgic effect it has on me haha
but other races? hmm
i) Centaurs
ii) Kraits? is it the snakey guys

Well since you said no Tengu or Kodan (both! Haha!)

Although they’re Human…if we make it Cantha someday, I’d like to play a Kurzick if their culture hasn’t died out.

…..or a Quaggan.

Skritt, no doubt about it. Those little dudes are cool as all kitten.

Maybe I’m human centric or something but I don’t want to play any of the other races. :P

Tengu for sure, Kodan, and I would look seriously at Hylek. I think there needs to be a lizard race, too. Like the Krait, but not evil. XD

I’d like to play as tengu helping against the tyranny in Cantha.
I’d like to play as an elonian centaur like Zhed Shadowhoof in Elona.
I’d like to play as a quaggan, because quaggan is nice and good, oooOOOooo (for fun).
I’d like to play as a time mage, whatever their race is.

Dwarfs ofc! and maybe i would like to play as those polar bear dudes!

Skritt, of course.

I would like to be a quaggan but only if I got to have a soundboard so I could do variuos oooOOOOoooooo and OOOOooooOOOoooo sounds all day long

Like zogrim said, I would like to play as an Elonian centaur, as Zhed Shadowhoof is. That, and I’m sick of being a two-legs. Make it happen! Also would like to play as some sort of serpentine race, like the Guild Wars 1 nagas.

Tengu, they have a strong lore behind them and a good basis for a playable race, every other mentioned in blogs are minor and therefore not sophisticated enough to be playable

Out of the current races in the game(not playable), there are none that I’d really like to play. The Asuran have my full attention and while I do like some of the other playable races I have no intention of playing anything but Asuran any time soon.

Sorry OP, can’t think of anything but Tengu! They’re just so awesome. Loved them in GW1 and if race changes and Tengu ever become available I’ll make my main a Tengu immediately.

I am going to have to go with Kodan on this one… giant freakin polar bear with armor? Yes please!

Kodan hands down, they look like they would make great guardians .

absolutely skritt! There’s even several quest areas where skritt are either technologically, magically or radioactively bumped to have high individual intelligence instead of the “collective smarts.” We should do this at once!

Skritt and Quaggan would be hard races to justify lorewise, I think. The skritt because their intelligence depends on large numbers of skritt to be together (they have a sort of really fast ultrasonic communication allowing several skritt to act sort of like neurons of a brain, a single skritt is dumb, a larger group can become very smart), and the Quaggan because of their pacifist attitude that if they’re attacked they’d rather surrender or run away than fight.

That said, it would be fun to have the Quaggan berzerker form as an elite, and have them replace every instance of “me” or “I” with “Quaggan” in chat..

Hylek, absolutely the Hylek. I’ve wanted them ever since I learnt about their way of life and also their animations helped. I really want to play as a Hylek. More than a Tengu even. (although I really want Tengu too)

Right now for me it’s the Hylek and Tengu. Followed by the Largos even though I know very little about them. Those are my big three, they’re also very different from each other.

As much as I love the Quaggan and Skritt, I can’t really see them working as playable races.

There’s also another race I would love to play as but I figure it has less chance to become playable than a Wurm because they’re supposed to be extinct now. (The Seer)

Tengu and kodan sound awesome, of course, so do largos. While I adore skritt, I can’t imagine them as a playable race, considering a single skritt is dumb as a rock. I think I’d like to try a centaur, simply because I’ve never seen a quadrupedal race in a MMO.

Or quaggan. They’re adorable. But I can’t see them working as playable races either.

Along with what I mentioned earlier, I believe there was going to be a chronomancer profession in the original guild wars at some point but it got cut out because of Guild Wars 2.

Well, I believe that the general consensus when dealing with playable races is that they have to walk on two legs. Not 4 legs and a pair of arms, not slide around and don’t “skip” or jump to get around.
That doesn’t really leave many additional races to mess around with.
Some mentioned Dwarves, but. Newsflash: They’re all dead (kinda.. spoooilers)
Skritt would fit into the general consensus, however. Skritt are about as intelligent as a trained Rat, their intelligence might increase when there’s more of them in the same place. But, would a lone Skritt really fit in? Only way I’d see this remotely fit in is to control a group of 20 skritts at once, which sadly, wouldn’t work.
Quaggans somewhat fit it. However, their body shape and postures are just abit too weird, and to me. They’re not exactly heroic lookin’.

What I think would work nicely however, are Kodans and Tengus.
Largos could also work quite nicely (and be really cool), however. Due to their, extreme stealthy nature I don’t think it would really fit in. Stealth in itself is fine, but staying invisible indefinetly is a balance issue. Compromise ofcourse always works, but then that wouldn’t hold true to lore.

I’m pretty sure that Quaggan are a writeoff because apparently the race is entirely non-aggressive in order to prevent themselves from going berserk. Or something.

I have no idea how you’d manage to pull off a playable Skritt.

Hylek are a definite maybe, if only because they aren’t antagonized 99% of the time like Centaurs.

Skritt – definitely. I would SO play a skritt.

Centuars – eh, maybe.

Kodan – that would be interesting, but they seem a little too self-opinionated for my tastes.

Hylek – that could be interesting

Krait – that would definitely be another option

Dwarf would be very nice. They could make a rebirth of the race and may be have them more open minded and get out of the beer and mining stereotype.
