What's the best and worst profession atm?
There is no best or worst profession, there is only personal perception, only play what suit you the most
Plus, it depends on the corner: Mesmers are kinda weak in PvP atm, but they have no problems to find a dungeon group. Same goes for every class!
Oh come on guys the game can’t be THAT balanced. Clearly there’s gotta be some classes that way outshine the others in most areas.

There all fun to play BUT Mesmers are too hard too play currently in PvP the effort you need to put into playing them well is far more than lets say warriors and rangers, and from the other hand Necros arent that good in pve dungeons/fractals atm since they are condi based class and the current meta is Zerkers
You will have a harder time finding a dungeon group as a necro / ranger / engi than with a warrior / guardian / ele / mesmer. Thieves shine in organized groups but don’t have the support to stay alive in random chaos. Open world is ruled by guard, warr / ranger second. PvP / WvW I have no idea about.
No profession is the best at everything. It all depends on what content you are talking about. In general, necromancers are the least useful for open world PvE and dungeons. However they kick kitten in pvp. That’s not to say necromancers can’t clear dungeons. Saying they are worse than anyone is like saying a 5/16th wrench is worse than a 3/8th wrench.
Best supported by content would be ele less supported would be necro.

Necro’s are one of the few classes that can strip boons. So they can offer something to PVE instances.
there are such best or worst class. all depends the players
best? it’s elementalist, so obvious, then the worst it’s really the one you hate to play the most.
i dont thing so. true ele is good for AOE dps. so it make helpful for pve and wvw most of time. but not for pvp. i can easily kill a ele on pvp match. sometimes i use my mesmer just 1 hit.

I don’t know why people think necros are crap, necro is my main and i’ll tell you now, I can pump out enough damage if I need to, I can survive if I need to, I can cc if I need to.
It seems to me that there are many people who have done a bit of a walkthrough on necro and decided they don’t like it and havnt experienced how to play it properly or have been involved with necros who don’t know what they are doing for the situation they are in.

This was off my own personal belief. In pvp guardians are one of the most predictable and easily counterable classes. Especially medi hammer guard, it’s the squishiest thing in spvp right now. Why do you think you never see good ones alone? Greatsword builds aren’t viable in the slightest, hell hammer build I don’t think is that good. You’re better off with a dps shoutbow warrior. They’re better at dps then medi hammer and have more surivability.
Guardians at the core design of the class is support. Any build trying to not be support is a terrible guardian build.

I sort of agree, but i think the main problem with necro is that it’s a “selfish” class, not capable of giving enough support in a dungeon for example. It can’t really give boons, it doesn’t deal insane dps, it can’t give good heal support. That said, i do love necros and i think an experienced player behind a necro can still help a lot in dungeons too (i’ve had full groups wipe while i alone survived and killed off every mob, finished the job and rezzed everybody as a necro)
I don’t really pvp but if i remember correctly necros are supposed to be good in that :P
In WvW, i loved necro – so much survivability, tons of AoE (=>tagging), and the fun with fearing half the enemy zerg off a bridge :P

900 range. Without a bazooka, they’re shafted at Claw of Jormag, for example. Hell, even Guardians have 1200 range on scepter and staff.

I just started a Necro and all these negative posts are making me second guess my choice.

It is indeed fun, however, after several searches on the subject the Necro appears to be a very underwhelming class endgame and it doesn’t seem this will change anytime soon. I by no means need to be the best class, but I don’t want to be the bottom of the barrel in both pve and pvp. Glad I found out now at least.

Best all-round professions that can do something really well in all game modes:
Warrior
Guardian
Ele
Professions that are uneven and/or have design issues:
Ranger
Necro
Mesmer
That said, every profession is viable for everything in the game and has something unique and powerful about them, largely a matter of finding one you find fun (which can be difficult with the way Anet has leveling set up for people just starting the game).

Necro is the best solo class. They have access to every buff the ele has (though it’s only for themselves) and bring boon stripping on top of this.
I’m talking about open world ofc, not solo dungeon path which is a really niche activity.

Keep in mind that speed clear dungeon runs are not viable outside of an organized group which pugs are not. So using a optimal build in a non optimal setup is meaningless.

Well in one way you can actually say that. Most classes in GW2 is pretty good balanced and it is pretty hard to say what classes is the best. In PvP guards and Engineers is pretty favored classes as their Metas are pretty easy to play but a player that plays an Ele, mesm or thief good will blast the conoolas out of the Guard or Engi metas.
So for PvP there is always a counter to every build and in the end it is up to you and your skills to decide what class is the best.
Now for PvE and dungeons and so on. It is more the same as I said about PvP, learn your class and you can solo almost anything with every class. If I would have to choose a best class I would go for Guardian för PvE but that is becouse I play guardian the most. My GF would say Necro becouse she mains a Necro after her Ele build was nerfed. One of my friends would say Ranger becoue his main is ranger and he does not do as well with other classes.
So, now it is up to you OP to try the classes and choose for yourself. And BTW why do you have to play the best class? The only thing that will await you is a nerf and then there is another best class, so go for the class you personally like the most.

Yes a good necro, that have proper build for dungeons will be better then just about 90% warriors and eles that join my pug groups. But finding one decent necro in dungeons is like looking for a needle in a haystack. That’s why lfg dungeon is plagued with “meta ele war guard”.

Outside of dungeons, its all just personal preference and you can really roll whatever u want and be fine.
In dungeons there is preference toward ele war guard, and you will find decent groups faster with these classes.

Exactly the point though. People use what is good for a specific thing and then force it into something else. Many are not skilled and/or not knowledgeable about what frankly is a tiny aspect of the game. To expect otherwise is not useful.

Worst and best depends on what aspect you’re looking at.
I play my best on my Necro, because it has been my main since the beginning and I know what I’m doing. I play worst on my Thief (I’d think), which I rarely play because I don’t like the “feel”.
If I had equal experience with all classes, I’d probably go with Ele as the best class, as I find Eles to be good/one of the best in all modes of the game. Necros and Mesmers have their situational ups and downs, which could make them worse.
I still play my Necro in Dungeons and Fractals, with mostly positive experiences.

You don’t understand that by joining a zerker group with your “tank” necro or whatever you’re killing them. They died because you can’t pull your weight. How many times does this have to be stated? Zerker set up in prolongued fights = dead. Not for all encounters, but for a lot of them that is true. Nobody is forcing you to join zerker groups. Make a new group, tank necro only, and have fun.

You listed dual pistols as a valid ranged option. Your opinion is invalid.
Also I play a thief as main. It is not the meta for either PVE, WVW or even PVP. But I’m still darn good at it.
Everyone wants to be Lara croft with unload on their 3. This is why dual pistols are amazing. With ricochet trait you can kill something sometimes.
