What species would you truly play?
Side topic, but a duel between a krait, naga and Forgotten would be so cool.
Tengu.
Give me a Tengu please.
Sylvari is the closest faery you’d get to play in the game.
Other than that, there is interest in:
Quaggons
Largos
Tengu
Kodan
Centaur (believe it or not)
Dwarves (maybe a clan that was not from the Shiverpeaks)
The Forgotten (from original Guild Wars)
Mursaat
The Seer
Margonites (there has been a small minority wishing big time)
Harpy’s
Tengu. Kodan if there was scope for personalisation.
I’d like to play a quaggan, especially if they went into rage form when they withdrew their weapons. But that seems optimistic
lol, that would look quite cool, reminded me of how Asura get their ears up.
In all seriousness, only Tengu will be (if any) the new playable race we’ll ever see, none of the other races were ever set up to be playable regardless of how cool it may be.
I see a lot of Largos fans, as easy as it would be to gear them up, the really cool thing about them is how rare they are, I can frankly only think of 3 places on the entire world map where they show up (I’m sure there are more), having them around as players in big numbers would kill them.
Hylek are one of the lesser races, so are Grawl, Centaur, Skrit and the ragging Quaggan, all of those will hardly ever be playable guys, just live with it.
Why does it have to be a lore-based playable race instead of one something else. We COULD have playable Camels perhaps!
(edited by Tman.6349)
Largos or Icebrood…
When you look at customization options, the current armor choices and how Anet handles armor for other races : I won’t play any new races, except maybe for an achievement. I already have trouble accepting a fully clothed Charr, but I find a fully clothed tengu with a skirt even more ridiculous.
I completely agree with you.
It makes me wonder why an armor set looks the same on a sylvari and charr, as it does on a human. If the answer is anything like “It would just take too much time/effort.” I’m sorry, but that is just lazy talk. It could be delegated to 2 or 3 people as their only job to do, and let them just work on that.
Krait, love reptiles! I would be so happy
I’m surprised nobody mentioned undead.

Fox People. That’s right, make Kitsunes a playable race! They’ll fit in nice and good in Cantha!
Yes, please! I will be the first one to make a red-haired one named Holo.
Who cares she’s a wolf anyway!
I’d have about four people join up just to play with me as kitsune in exile from Cantha if they existed. But I’d have to transfer to TC then . . . hmm . . .

Until then I’ll stick with Sylvari
no desire whatsoever to play Tengu
I have come across many who wish Tengu becomes a playable race. Honestly, since I lack that whole avian spirit… I wouldn’t much care to see that. However… I would totally play Djinn if that was made a playable race, and even more so than that, since I’m a girl in all… I’d play a faerie too! Would GWs ever introduce Faeries into the game… or… Djinn… or, oooohhh! Brownies! I’d totally play a brownie!
Whatcha think?
The noc charrs. A rare sort of charrs without clipping issues :P
Currently playing Heart of Thorns.
Why does it have to be a lore-based playable race instead of one something else. The Sylvari hid in isolation through all of GW1. We COULD have playable Camels perhaps!
I could certainly go with something new. Who knows what is beyond the three continents we know. A demon race. A lizard race. An insect race. Many possibilities.
As far as the Sylvari go…they are only 25 years old. The events of GW1 happened 250+ years ago. At least that’s what we know about the playable race of Sylvari. Since there seems to be other trees out there, you may be correct for other parts of the world, just not those born from the grove.
Someone mentioned the Margonites. Another race I wouldn’t mind playing as.

I have played quite a few MMO’s going back 14/15 yrs. One thing I have learned about ever evolving worlds in this medium is that nothing is ever set in stone and it all can be changed if it makes sense to do so. Basically never say never.
When Guild Wars launched, never thought I would see Charr allies, but we got Pyre as a hero. That was one step away from actually just playing him. Same could be said for Vex/Zhed or the monk dwarf Ogden.
I could easily see any of the so called lesser races come center stage. All it takes is for anet to run with it.
Mursaat or Margonite.
Skritt riding an asura riding centaur! It’s the only plausible choice….
I’d still play a Sylvari.
Would be cool to play a Krait or Forgotten though.
- Seer
- Mursaat
- Warden
- Margonite

I’d personally love it. I really like my Mesmer, but I would delete and remake him as a Kitsune in an instant. It just fits so well.
proper antropomorphic cats

Log Horizon is way better than Sword Art Online.
i always played elfs in mmos

+1 for spoiler. I’d make a Wolf Fang or Fox Tail Assassin though.
Too bad the Festival hat cat ears are lost to GW1 only forever though, and even if they came here it wouldn’t be an armor skin. u.u

Looks more like Sugii Gisaburou’s cats to me
The ranobe was addictive, entertaining and had a real MMO feeling. The anime adaptation was really poor, it turned out as a generic adventure title despite the hype; I got to check the book after the anime, and the way how it was different shocked me and I eventually lost faith in the title. I can’t really say anything about Log Horizon (yet), but I can say that the .hack// series delivers a faaar better MMO feeling than SAO.
proper antropomorphic cats
Personally I wouldn’t class those as proper anthropomorphs. They’re more like humans with cat ears and tails, than cats with human qualities. The Charr seem more proper to me personally. (I want to emphasise “personally” so I don’t come off as being rude, or attacking.)
No, you’re actually right. Anthropomorphic cats are cats with human features, felinemorphic humans cat-eared and cat-tailed people are humans with cat features. Between furries and cat-eared, my preference is definitely towards the latter, but again as you noted, that’s a matter of personal preference
I dislike how in many games, and movies the non-human races often look just like humans with subtle changes, for example races in Star Trek.
The sylvari are an exception since in the lore, somewhere, I think it says they were modeled after humans since a human planted the seed.
It reminded me of a novel I really liked, Harry Harrison’s “Final Encounter”.
After thousands of years of searching for extraterrestrial life, people finally find one; but after making contact and analyzing each other, they conclude that despite their great difference, they are actually descendants of the same distant human race and they’re still alone in the Universe.
Too bad the Festival hat cat ears are lost to GW1 only forever though, and even if they came here it wouldn’t be an armor skin. u.u
So they existed in GW1? Oh, then it makes even more sense to go post a cat-ear request thread in the BLTC section

The sylvari are an exception since in the lore, somewhere, I think it says they were modeled after humans since a human planted the seed.(…)Are you sure about that? First time I’ve heard this, and you have Sylvari from another Tree which likely wasn’t planted by a human and he looks just the same.
From what I understand the Pale tree was where the Sylvari first “sprouted” from, after the seed was found in a cave and planted by Ronan on his family’s graves. Other trees came afterwards and are still fairly young, possibly planted by other sylvari; the Wiki doesn’t say.
Sorry for my off-topic post peeps.
On topic bit:
Kodan, Krait, Centaurs, and Grawl could be good too.
Also I hate my user ID.

The Sylvari as a race are only about 25 years old, and Trahearne’s the very first born of the lot of them. GW1 happened 250 years ago.
That side, Tengu, Kodan, and (if only..) Centaurs.

I know when GW1 happened. The Sylvari as we know them, from The Grove, or the race in general? Makes ya wonder where ‘that seed’ must’ve come from if it didn’t fall from a previous tree….

Now what would be interesting is if, even in the PVE environment , players that are considered a racial enemy of another could be attacked by other players.
So if some 20 people were Centaurs and some twenty Humans, they could battle it out in Kessex hills.
Races in order of least want to greatest want
heylek
tengu
largos
Kodan
Quaggan
Charr without clipping
I’m surprised no one mentioned the kodan…
None atm w/o race change added to the gem store, but if I had the room Kodan all the way.
I would love to play a draconic race, maybe one born from dragons or something. I dunno. I have had a bit of a dragon kick :p
Rabbit!
They are the true force behind all events and someday you will bow down before the little furry masters!

You want to play a confectionary slice?
Mursaat
My favorite race in GW
Agreed…I love Mursaat. I would totally play the heck out of a Mursaat.
Speaking of which, what happened to the lore with them? There was at least one left alive in gw1, and he swore revenge!
My other half would personally love to see a raccoon or a tanuki race.
I’d…play an Ogre, honestly. Sure, it’d be funny to have an Ogre Engineer, but hey.
TENGU!
Unfortunately armour would have the same issues Charr do. sigh
I would love to play a Centaur but that isn’t going to happen (I don’t think playable quadrupedal races are gong to work).
Djinn are really awesome looking so I would like to play one.
I think it would interesting to see another group of Sylvari from a different tree who maybe aren’t as human looking and have developed a different mindset but people complain about the Sylvari having too much spotlight already and I don’t know if they look human due to influence or because that just how they look.
I’m not to interested in Largos TBH. They kinda made a bad impression on me but maybe I would warm to them with some development.
(edited by Demented Sheep.1642)
Tough choice between Tengu and Sylvari… On one hand, we have ninja birds. On the other, plant people. Ehhh, kinda leaning towards Tengu, so I could go full Narutard on people.
Hylek
Praise the sun.May you one day find you very own sun!
Could Sunbro be it’s very own race?
“The hylek do not have a faith in gods but rather revere the sun as a nameless divine entity, believing it to represent both good and evil. To hylek, the sun is the bringer of life-sustaining heat and bounty, as well as the harbinger of drought and famine.”
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Hylek
At least that why i think the saying fits i could be wrong.
“Live every moment in the sun well, for a shadow is never far behind you.”
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Go_Forth_and_Multiply:_The_Hylek
This is a great saying of there too that i think fits the ideal too!

Dredge would be Op. Blind immune
Tengu, hands down. I would probably also make a Largos, if I could.
But please no cliche races like dwarves or elves. And no hostile races, please…I don’t want PvE turning into WvW. If people want to fight other players, they can join WvW, keep the two separate, please.
