I currently have about 2400 Gold on my character and am torn as to what to do with it. I’m not sure If I want to save up and buy a legendary or put it towards making more ascended gear. I’m not sure if the legendaries are really worth blowing through all the gold or not. I’m also open to putting the gold towards other things, I’m just torn now that i’m so close to actually being able to afford the legendary.

Legendaries are really only skins, and the ability to swap stats.

You could also go get the treasure hunter achievment…you have enough gold to buy almost everything. And the one piece you would need is from an event thats bugged. But if you log in right at reset you’ll be able to get it.

How many gems is that?

As long as you have your character fully geared… get whatever you think is cool. whether that be skins, working on achievements, ascended, etc. that’s up to you.

Don’t buy legendaries. Buy the mats for them, then do the precursor achievements.

However, IMO, few legendaries are worth it. They’re actually a bit cluttering, I find. I only like the aquatic ones – I crafted Frostfang looking forward to it greatly but found myself annoyed by the mass amounts of animations and how the weapon replaces some cool projectile animations (like Death Shroud 1 skill – a ball of black and green energy should not turn into a flying axe! Ice trail or no!).

I’d look at the exotics and see if there’s some you like, and get those. If you don’t like them, wait for HoT.

I like the looks of legendary weaps. When I finished mine I was very happy with it (I have Sunrise) and I still am, and the swaping stats are very handy. On the other hand, I don’t think buying it is the best deal. If you buy the mats and craft the leg you’ll probably save a nice ammount of your gold (tough you’ll have to run so math to be sure). Finally, you can also use your gold to play the TP to make more gold. With that ammount you can probably get super-rich by flipping itens. If you follow my last idea, be sure to research a lot, because flipping is risky. If nothing goes by your mind, just save it untill something that you really want appears (a.k.a., wait for HoT).

Gem store items are the best investment of gold. Legendaries don’t really pay off, they are just a couple of skins that do not go together very well. I find things like maxing out bank slots, character slots, bag slots, etc. to be much more useful.

Think forward. Consider what will help you in HoT, not what will make you feel better and keep you playing the game right now.

That said, if you’re having trouble spending that much gold, then someone else probably needs it far more than you. Consider donating small amounts to close friends here and there over time until you spend it all. Just enough so that they don’t have to spend every day grinding for basic conveniences.

The main reason I say don’t go for a legendary is in about six months you will be dead tired of how your character looks, and you will go to redo it with a new outfit or new armors that are added, and then your legendary will no longer match and you will have wasted all of that time since you can’t sell it. After that, the only way to make use of it is to move it to an alt who it will look good on.

Another option is to save the gold to buy HoT. It may be offered in the gemstore, similar to how the digital delux upgraded is offered now. This means that when it finally comes out, you wouldn’t have to spend a dime of real money ($50 is approximately 1000 gold right now). ArenaNet hasn’t yet confirmed if this will be possible though, so it is a hit or miss investment…

You can send it to me as well. I only need about 500g to finish my first legendary. It’s only taken me 3 years and an extremely lucky win from the halloween lottery to get to this point. My first and only piece of luck this game has ever thrown me.

Probably as many are doing, preparing for HoT. So, gold, gems, leveling scrolls etc. Maybe work on the generic legendary ingredients such as gift of mastery etc. Amassing ascended gear which most ingredients can be gathered with regular play over time if you are working on the above suggestion (e.g. world completion). Other than that, maybe work on collections if you have world completion already; gets you out in zones worth gathering from as well. You can just buy it all, but where is the fun in that? My latest set of ascended, I spent less than 100gp. But when HoT is released, no telling what will be for sale in the gem store, you may want to have the gold and gems at that point.

Legendaries are promised to stay at always the best stats (ascended level now, they used to be exotic stats before), so if a greater stat system is ever introduced, you have it right there, with no need of chasing after the new a shinier stat (be it combo, or bigger number)

This depends a lot on the legendary weapon someone got. While some of them are really hard to match with anything, others might be fitting to more skins. With the new specializations in HOT the legendary might fit to a new character, to another class. This might make it interesting again.
Also for some people legendaries are some sort of feel-good-symbol. To show the “i am rich” – status. Some find it nice to have some lightning bolts around their weapon etc. etc.
So I would not go with “don’t get a legendary” but more with “think carefully before getting one”. Btw.. with HOT there will be new legendaries. Maybe they fit way better to armor. So maybe keep that money and wait for the new skins. They might be awesome!

ArenaNet (Gaile Grey) has already confirmed, that you cannot get it via gems!

You’re ahead of me – and I think I’m going to either have to buy the precursor at this point or wait for the HoT collection.

Buy a black Poly luminescent undulating refractor.

Go to wvw and upgrade the kitten out of everything.
