I thought anet stated they were going to add a blade shard exchange vendor? Did I miss it or do they expect players to forget?

So far there doesn’t seem to be one. Either they forgot or hoped that we would. Miyani herself sells the Gift of Blades for each crafting profession that can craft it, but that’s the closest thing I can think of.

My guess (and only a guess) would be that the Zephyr Sanctum would be the perfect place to find the trader who is looking for these.

Guess we’ll see next Tuesday.

The first update to the game is coming in 5 days since the major update/patch (wardrobe, pvp changes, soulbound to account bound of a lot of function and items) from 4.5 weeks ago. So it’s 5 weeks between an update. They haven’t mentioned anywhere I’ve read that they intend to put a blade shard exchange agent in the update in 5 days.

HOWEVER, they don’t always let us know all the details. I am glad about this because when they deliver on what they promise and then ADD other aspects (either new items or previously mentioned updates) then I am just pleasantly surprised.

My question is, do you have a TON of them? You realize you can use these to make back items of Exotic or Ascended levels, right? In fact, it’s the ONLY way to get an Exotic back item in game with Sentinel stats (which may or may not apply to your interests). You can always reskin the blade back item once you have it. My point is – this is WAY cheaper than making a Quiver of Swift Flight, for example.

There is now a Bladeshard vendor in the event areas, you can buy masterwork loot boxes with it. All it has done is made anyone who has a few stacks of shards into the biggest crybabies i’ve ever seen. All i’ve seen today is “I thought it was supposed to be something valuable.”

You got something valuable, an ascended back item, one of the best looking ones in the game, yet some people still expect more from an old event item. Meanwhile people like me who picked up the game at the very end of Scarlett’s living world story just today unlocked the Watchwork Node that lets you collect the sprockets and shards to make our own blade packs.

Rant aside, Arenanet didn’t forget, but everyone keeps whining that they don’t get more out of an item that you don’t really need anymore.

Erm, maybe because many people had thousands upon thousands of these useless shards, and all they can be traded for now is junk? We should be able to trade a stack of 250 for 250 festival tokens, at the least.

In the original announcement about the blade shard vendor, this is what was posted:

Rumors tell of a merchant interested in items from major events in Tyria’s recent history, including Blade Shards. Players are encouraged to hold on to these items if they are interested in trading with her when she appears.

It’s not unreasonable to think that getting a single green for 250 of these shards that people were told to hold on to for over 2 months (some had whole bank tabs full of these stacks, some even more!) might feel like somewhat of an insult.

It might also be noted that the exact same equipment bag that the blade shard merchant gives you for 250 of these shards also costs 100 fortune tokens. For something that can’t be bought, sold, traded, or deposited, and became very rare after the Battle for Lion’s Arch, waiting 2 months to give up 250 of them for garbage that we can get the equivalent of by fighting just about any mobs in any area in under 5 minutes… can you understand why those people felt let down?

It’s ArenaNet’s game, they can, of course, do what they want, but they had to expect near-universal disappointment from anyone that held onto their shards.

Don’t tell us to save our 5000 extra shards or whatever and then give us items for 250 of them that are worth less than the cost of waypointing from LA to Mount Maelstrom and expect a ticker-tape parade in response. In this case, I can only surmise that it’s basically the same attitude they’ve had in “improving” the game experience since launch: make everything less rewarding.

Anyone who already has a blade pack really has no reason to complain. You got to use them for what they were intended. A lot of us didn’t get the chance, personally I started playing GW2 about a week before the destruction of Lions Arch. It has been one of my goals since I bought the game to get a blade pack, now they’ve made it easier on me, rather than having to buy thousands of watchwork sprockets.

The point is you shouldn’t feel entitled to anything over an item that has outlived its use. Arenanet promised a merchant who would accept them, they never said “Keep your blade shards, you can trade them for exotic/ascended gear.” Can you blame them? If they sold you even rares for blade shards, it would crash ectoplasm prices and with it the entire crafting economy, they thought forward, and thought about the people who don’t have 5,000 of these things just laying around, consider that. Your expectations are not their sole focus, keeping the game alive and well is. A good game is not made through a ruined economy.

You can hold on to your extra blade shards, as the team will be adding something later which will allow you to convert the shards to something of value. Dev will be announcing more on that later. Thanks!

What do you consider “something of value” to be?

What ever the blade shards can be traded for is worth more than they were before right? Before the update blade shards take up bank space/ bag slots and had no value. After the update, trade them in for things that have at least some value. No matter how minimal you think the trade value was the fact remains that trading them has more value than they had, which was just taking up space.

While absolutely true, I think that most people thought something of value = something valuable.

I was a bit more pessimistic and just deleted the darn things.

Well if people thought a thing that dropped liked crazy during the LA events would be tradable for yellows, T6 mats or what not, then LOL. The fact is they have some value now if you trade them. For the last month or so they didn’t have value at all.

agreed. had I known I’d get 70s worth of stuff for 6 stacks of blade shards, I would of deleted mine as well. bank space is worth more than that.
I think most people aren’t complaining that they are getting bupkis for hard-earned blade shards. They are complaining that they were specifically told to save them, which greatly implies the thing you are saving it for is actually valuable. At most, they should of said something calmer, such as: “rumor has it that a vendor is coming to town that will buy blade shards from you”, then not insist people to save save save them.

I’m sorry but blade shards dropped like crazy during the LA event. They were by far not hard earned.

When Danicia said to not delete them, I’d say a good percentage of us held onto them. I held back and only crafted one Asc back piece too. There’s been a lingering theme of Legendary Back pieces coming out, who knew is this would not have been an ingredient.

This is just one more example of a very low value update.

Of the many many problems with this update this is not one of them… I got 8 yellows from my blade shard bags, if they were tradeable they would have been selling for 2-3c each, what did you expect to trade them for? Green’s and yellows was more generous than I thought they would be.

Really wasn’t worth holding onto the shards for so long, taking up valuable bank space. I only got green item junk back from over 4000 blade shards traded for equipment bags. I’ll know better next time when they say hold on to your event items and just dump them.

agreed: people are not complaining about a poor exchange rate for hard-earned items because they weren’t hard-earned. Instead, they are complaining about being mislead about what they would get for them.
