Hey guys! Was just wondering if anyone has any knowledge about Dueling in GW2? I just started playing with 5 friends. We are all disappoint in the ‘no-dueling’ feature. It’s just a great feature to have fun with while your wait for someone to come back, or when u are bored, wanna try to damage on your friends, or just simply to smash your friends in 1v1 combat!
I ask here because i can’t find any straith answer anywhere! I hope you guys feel it’s missing in the game as much as i do

Cheers!

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

^ and if we are lucky NEVER will dueling be added to the game. PvP is for dueling others as is WvWvW. Not the open world.

With luck it will NEVER happen in PVE. It’s what drove me to quit playing SWTOR and Aion. It was almost trivial to wind up enabled for PVP SWTOR and was a pain to get it disabled. In Aion there wasn’t any enablement needed, you could get killed while out trying to do your missions in PVE by enemy players.

Ya i see there is WvWvW. but i can’t see how it can make the game worse? if u don’t want to duel, then just don’t. but all the people out there who would like and enjoy it with friends for fun, will be much happier.

It certainly wasn’t that easy to “just don’t” in either SWTOR or Aion. I never asked for it but was forced into situations where I had no choice in both games.

it’s a loooong way ahead for A.Net to balance classes before being ready to even think about introducing duels. Maybe if/when someday all classes will be perfectly balanced, then they will think about it…

Uh, I don’t believe there were any balance considerations in SWTOR or Aion. In fact the higher level toons would seek out lower level “easy prey” in my experience. If I remember right, the rewards for killing lower level toons was the same as for any.

There’s already precedent for implementing dueling; the food fight system. It’s an opt-in system where you aren’t forced to participate; you have to actively engage the trigger to enter a food fight with other players.

I’m not here to support one side or the other. Personally, I wouldn’t participate until ArenaNet gets their profession balancing in order. But it could be implemented in a way that gives players the option to duel without negatively impacting the play experience of those who have no interest.

If players don’t want to see duels happening in the open world, there are plenty of arena-type areas in the major cities set off to the side which could be made the official dueling sites. Dueling could be limited to just those locations. Entering one then puts you in a mode where you can accept an offer to duel another player. The duel concludes when one or the other is defeated or one of the duelists exits the arena (counts as a loss for that player).

Welcome to the game, Nato.

No eta on dueling in the Open World. It is low on the priority list of added features. Hopefully, it never appears. There are other area for dueling now, and..perhaps…some day dueling in pre-determined areas of the Open World.

You’re confusing open PvP zones with dueling. Dueling is a feature by which one player can challenge another to a duel. If the challenged accepts, a duel mode engages and they can fight. Open PvP involves anyone from one faction being able to attack anyone from the other at any time, without consent.

Well, I don’t want the challenges either (got tired of those pretty quickly).

Honestly, I don’t like dueling. I also hated the constant of people asking to duel.

But I wouldn’t be against it, if they added a feature to turn it off all the way for players that have no interest in it. This way it could be a nice feature for those who want it and a way it doesn’t bother those who don’t.

Ignore the naysayers. Anet has said they would like to add duels in the long term.

I think the OP is talking about 1 vs 1 duels where you’d have to right click the players portrait to ask to duel, and said player would have to accept. How in the world would that feature ruin the game that you guys are mentioning…seems idiotic to think that other people dueling [in the definition i know of] would do anything to hinder or involve you forced to do any action.

Im all for dueling. I thought this was 2014 not 1990…..

Areana areas within cities, cool.
Custom arena that whisks the players away to duel away from the open world, cool.
Being berated by someone while I am trying to complete a heart, not so cool.
Inability to block requests and/or mute challenger, not so cool.

If implemented right it would be fun for those that wish to partake, if not, it will cost anet many players; myself included.

Edit: also subject has been beaten to death.

A lot of people are scared over having to decline the dueling requests. In my opinion dueling would be a complete waste of time since there is nothing even resembling balance for 1v1 in this game. I’d rather have a 2v2 / 3v3 / 5v5 system in place although that will never happen.

All Anet would have to do is add a Check Box in the F11 options menu.
::imaginary square:: Accept duel requests.

Tommyknocker, the subject has been beaten to death very simple put – its a very simple feature that should be in an mmo, and because the majority wants, if we didn’t want it, it would not have been brought up so much.

EFWinters, there are plenty of occasions when i would duel someone, and just to name simply one. waiting for your party in a dungeon/fractal to catch up to you OR come back from AFK. and XvX would be great but probably too much, you can go in SPvP for that.

We just asking for a simply Duel to test damage, kill time, show a fellow particular class mate how to do something they might not know about. Its an extremely simple feature and im confused as hell why it was never added, its lol-able

Duels can be done – make a your own PvP arena and invite whoever you want. DONE. It is in game already – in town or in Open World is a distraction and not wanted.

With PvP arenas, you have to fight with a build that has no trinkets, etc. I know people who like to duel, usually want to be OP so they overwhelm the other player. This way it is more balanced and depends on the skill of the player.

Duels can be done, at a cost, roughly 160 gold – make a your own PvP arena and invite whoever you want. DONE. It is in game already – in town or in Open World is a distraction and not wanted.

Fixed, and when random players use their skills and drop fields when not in combat, like Gendarren Fields, or where AFKers are, where there is absolutely no enemies to hit is any different? You get distracted quite easily.

To your edit, ill give you that. Me personally i could care less if i win or lose. All i would like is to kill time waiting for someone to come back from afk, or when im not in WvW or doing a champ train because that’s about all there is to do here anymore.
