Where are craftable precursors?
They stayed in 2013
Since then, rewards changed rapidly with the introduction of champion bags and World Boss rares, therefore priorities changed. I guess they couldn’t add their precursor crafting system because it was based on the pre-reward revamped game.
There was also a dev post explaining that… systems changed so their precursor crafting idea was obsolete.
As Colin said a year ago -
You will absolutely see a way to create a precursor available in the future. As detailed in our plans for the second half of the year here:
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/looking-ahead-guild-wars-2-in-2013/
As mentioned at the end of the blog, as always things are subject to change as test and prepare various systems. Most of the stuff covered in the blog you’ve already seen implemented, or steps towards being implemented, however the precursor building (and corresponding additional legendary items) is the one highest at risk to not make it this year.
It is still something we absolutely plan to do!
and from 3 months ago -
- These lists would have no definitive time frame when they would be updated. Iterative development can be fast, it can be slow (hi precursors!) and sometimes priority’s can change over night based on player feedback, company needs, or even things that occur due to staffing changes from illness, vacation, etc.

Man they must be in pretty deep financial trouble if someone going on vacation can delay something for 2 years.

Colin’s reply to you from a year ago -
Is there any sort of timeline on this? It was first stated over 6 months ago I believe. Is this something that is going to happen in the next few months? 6 more months? A year? 10 years? Obviously you can’t give us an exact date, but some sort of rough timeline would be nice.
We’ve learned we really can’t give timelines, since if we’re ever wrong a mob comes after us with torches and pitchforks
I can say we started designing this, and realized the proper (not hacked in quick) solution needs to be a part of bigger systems that more clearly directs players as well as ties in comprehensive rewards for playing across our game world, which we’re currently working on right now.
Some small parts of that comprehensive plan for game reward systems are already rolling out this month with the updates to WvW rank rewards.

Abandon your hope. Best advice I can give… we won’t ever see this.
tl;dr As long a people keep spending cash to buy gems —> gold to buy precursors, there will be no scavenger hunt.

@OP: Please don’t tell me you read through this post and felt like creating another precursor craft thread…
obviously in a year they will add this with the following item required to make it:
Precursor Orb:
use this item in the MF as part of the precursor creation process.
This item will be added to all loot tables and have a very very very low droprate (as opposed to the very very very very low precursor droprate) and its account bound
Gates Of Madness
Jewelcrafting to 500!
Where are craftable precursors? More than a year has passed since the announcement.

Good luck with this one, there were several promises made months ago and apparently they shelved them right after making them. Seems to be a trend now.

So many great ideas…I wish I knew what happened to that Anet…
The collection system they have implemented can allude to a system in the direction of precursor crafting.
If you look at how illuminate armor pieces are obtained, one can say they are currently piloting a system before deciding if its a good system for obtaining precursors.
This is speculation but you can see that they are at least experimenting with different reward systems for a parallel intent.

Whereas WoW had Theorycrafters, GW2 has Speculationcrafters.
When Ghostcrawler promised a pony, someone at ANet was the intended receiver of said promised pony, and thus the realm of false hopes and dreams was born, also known as corporate policy over at ANet.
Hell, while they are at it, they might as well promise everything to us to shut us up for a few months, drive up them gemgate store sales from all the pacified angry users and then think of something else up when that wears off. Thats what i’d do if i was a used car salesman.

I’m on a similar page, speculation wise, as you Chocolate. (Gosh your name makes me hungry!)
Both a scavenger hunt as well as crafting have been mentioned as options for acquiring precursors in a reliable (read: not rng, not purchased) way. Obtaining them as a collection reward would work as a scavenger hunt. I also saw Mawdrey (and how it was built) as a bit of a test run for a potential crafting set up as well. Using the data generated from these “pilots” could help them decide which route to take (i vote both, both is good) and highlight what parts of those options might need fine tuning.
where your precursors are at? I assume where the “more weapons for the classes” thing is…aka the void of nope cant have that. But hey.. you got a nice messenger bird added in the gem store that was suggested like 2 months ago or so – drowns in sarcasm -
They are already craftable!
Recipe:
-4-500 €/$
-Buy gems
-Convert to gold
-Get any precursor you want!
( https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/crafting/gw2-precursor-recipe-scavanger-hunt-news/first#post3780700) Jokes aside, this link shows how they won’t come any time soon, assuming they’ll ever come.

We are pretty much in full silence mode, i’m assuming it’s due to the holidays. I wouldn’t expect anything, either communications wise or released info (beyond what we already know), before the first of the year. 8 months have passed, seems like an awful long time for said feature.
Technically somewhere around April should be the next real feature pack. I know they’ve had a few people doing secret stuff.
It’s a discovered recipe!
Components involve a Fractal Box and Fractal Tonic.
to be faceroll at the high levels, because it
needs to be accessible to the casuals and bads.
Just grind gold or pray to RNGeesus.
Same place a lot of the stuff seems to be, lost in a black hole somewhere along the space time continuum waiting……
They were for example going to re-evaluate the achievements in WvWvW such as yakslapping. That seems to have totally fallen out of the black hole.
Precurors crafting is as alive and healthy as the manifesto.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Precursors are ALREADY craftable.
Use the legendary crafting station near the storm wizard’s house inside SAB and………………………….oh wait
Whether they will add this or not, they have indeed been adding better reward systems to the game. PvP reward tracks, WvW rank chests, PvE champion bags, Achievement rewards and collections (a good thing that could be used for precursor scavenge hunting?) and now also zone-based rewards. If it doesn’t come at some point I’m not bothered to be honest, I’ve moved my priorities to other things in the game that are more about fun rather than building an item that costs alot of gold.

I like this idea.
Anet is still making far to much money through people paying cash for gems→ gold to get precursors. Why on earth would they kill their cash cow?

Not trying to be a white knight about it since well, if anyone has seen some of my posts I say some very nasty things about Anet. All I’m saying is that well, there’s intent at the very least.
