I’ve played since headstart and never gotten one from any source. I have been grouped with guildies who got them — a GS precursor from the first karka event (legit from the chest itself, as she and I never DC’d in that event), the Moot precursor from a trash spider while following Dessa in AC, and another GS precursor from about 100 g worth of mystic forging by a guildie who really wanted Dawn and now has it.

I’ve played from Headstart as well. I got my first and only pre-cursor drop about 2-3 weeks after launch. the Trident (Venom? idk) dropped from a Hylek in WvW. I sold it for 12g ( a lot of money at the time) because I play a thief and couldn’t use it.

My first was was Tooth of Frostfang. Given to me as a gift from someone here on the forums.
My second, Rage, was from the forge. Tossed in 4 random rares from world bosses.

Dusk. Mystic Forge. 2 years ago. It was a lucky drop.

From WvW during the second tournament. While trying to hold our keep, I ended up killing a bunch of enemies and one of them gave me the drop. The rest of the precursors…dropped from the trading post.

Bought The Legend on the trading post for something like 900-1000g, which all came out of Silverwastes.

I got mine from the TP, purchased with gold made from the first Shadow of the Mad King event. I don’t even remember what skin it was- one of the patches shortly thereafter made the game unplayable on my PC. I would log in periodically to make sure that I was still getting 5-10 FPS and check the TP. When the price of the skin hit 900 gold, I went ahead and sold it with the hopes that I’d be able to play again someday.

I had completely forgotten about the gold until I installed GW2 on my new computer only to discover it waiting for me at a BL trader. It was the perfect amount, too- not enough to buy the legendary I wanted outright (so I got to enjoy the entire stupid process and the sense of accomplishment that comes with it), but enough that I was pretty much guaranteed a pre in the event that the RNG was against me while I worked towards everything else.

got a dusk out of a bag of gear from SW events.
Not even a bag of rare gear. gave me 2 greens and a precursor worth 1300g (that’s what it sold for atleast)
turned around and bought a dawn for a neat 400g profit.

Dawn: bought off TP.
Bard: bought off TP.
Bolt: bought off TP.
Rage: champ bag.

Dawn. Direct drop from lv60 shark before Scarlet attack lion arch.

Also never gotten one in my time since release.

I got my 2 precursor in the forge using dungeons exotic weapons.

Bolt – TP.. but i got another high priced item that i sold and bought bolt with
Dawn – MF, i had 4Account bound GS tossed them in and got Dawn…

My MF pre-cursor dropping Ranger net me 2 from the Mystic Toilet. Sparks and The Hunter
And I got Venom from one of the dungeon chest. I think also from my Ranger.

I got one a couple more months again from the Mystic Forge. Dropped 4 random rares in.

Also playing since headstart..
1. about 2 years ago: lvl20 dredge fractal (Rabsovich) → LB pre
2. about 0,5 year ago: wvw borderland tower veteran → Pistol pre
3. TP → Hammer pre

I rekt a mesmer from Galleon in scrims and he kindly dropped me a spark as a thank you for completely rekking him… Some say he is still on respawn timer.

I have about 900 hours across all characters I play and I’ve never gotten anything worth over 5g I believe. Though like 2 months ago I got an ascended weapon chest from SW conviently before the stat change update. Aside from that, a month later a pile of regurgitated armor box dropped for me at triple trouble. I’m sad now because that’s 900 hours of Rng for two ascended items :/. I’ve already used all my luck I suppose

I’ll tell you where I got my precursor from when I get one. You may need to keep this thread open for a long time though.

From the trading post, and I paid like 30G or something.
Oh, The Chosen, how unpopular you were 2 years ago.

Both purchased from TP after farming gold for them.

Played since launch, taking a 9 month break, approximately 2000 hours played. Never found a legendary until HOT came along announcing its “legendary quests”, decided that my guild would probably be doing those together, gave up on the idea, did pvp, found The Chosen in a pvp champion loot box. This was about 6 months ago, took about 3 months to complete Flameseeker Prophecies.

Thanks again for all the replies! I’ve been playing since launch as well and it seems that I dont ever get drops. Still have a blast playing though.

I am personally super looking forward to what will probably be crazy complicated and long quests for precursors coming in HOT it will give a much more community driven cooperation for Legendarys and while I do not think they should be super prevalent, more people achieving the Legendaries would be nice to see, or at least have more capabilities rather than luck.

I wonder what’s the ratio of people who want precursors to craft their own legendary to those who’re just looking to make some gold. Ever so often I toss some rares and exotics into the forge, but I’m only interested in getting a pre in order to sell it and buy skins and such (most of the BLTC sets look better than legendary weapons, imo);

For what it’s worth I got the spear precursor by forging three random exotics and a mystic forge stone. Was pretty disappointing.

MF yesterday got 2 “The Legend” with only 8 yellow staffs one after the other XD

Some guy just got a precursor, Dawn, by putting his excess Beta weapons in the MF.

Got my first (and only so far) about 10 days ago. 5k hours and rank 3000, Dusk dropped in home bl, no idea from what. Opened inventory to salvage, spotted it straight away… Closed inventory… Reopened and it was still there, woohoo.
So I made Twilight. Only needed 2 AC runs to finish all the mats for it, sold it on the TP and bought The Bifrost.

bought mine on the TP when it was around 20g because back then nobody give a crap about the Spear or Trident legends

HoT earning Precursors is the only way i’ll see one not on the trading post waiting for me.

Ah only played a couple of thousand hours, guess I’m not due any good stuff yet.

I got my from the mystic forge.

While I know people used this as a method of getting one but I was just using it as usual so it was pleasant suprised when I got one despite it wasn’t a weapon I normally used (got the mace).

In saying so the way I do it is kinda somewhat of a money saving depending how you see it.

I just thrown in any three weapons I got from the dungeon reward track as I already got exotic/ ascended weapons at my disposals so the dungeon weapons are kinda useless in my eyes unless I want more dark matter or take a gamble at salvaging out an inscription (I got black lion salvage kit). I also used a mystic stone to save time aswell since you only get three weapons in a single track.

First one I got from a loot bag from a player in WvW, although it was Rage, so it was only worth 40g back then.
Last week I came home from work and was bored, so I bought 60g worth of exotic maces and forged those… 3rd try got The Energizer. Now I’m working on getting the moot

Spent like 60 gold for dusk in MF. Only 300 hours played :p

I didn’t. I’ve played guild wars since the beginning and have never even ‘smelled’ a precursor, let alone seen one drop. /bitterness

Im debating on buying a precursor and making a legendary. Ive played GW2 since December of 2012 and have never gotten a drop, nor have my friends. I was just wondering how and where others have gotten their precursors.

Trade post cuz rng, ultimately this decision was the final nail in the coffin for me taking a year+ break from the game and thus not buy any gems. Hope a-net is happy with losing profits, as I know I am not the only one, in fact, I personally know of 5 people such as myself, only 1 of them hss returned to the game + me, rest are still away.

My Hunter dropped from the Loot Bag of a Sanctum of Rall Necromancer in the beginning of my daily roaming session one or two years ago. I’ve never, ever seen that one coming.

so far every precursor ive had drop (total of 3) has been from open field gvgs in wvw.

Edit: Those being flame of rodgort/ Storm/ and one I honestly cant remember at this time.

I was doing a Mystic Forge daily quest. Got to 4/5, then couldn’t figure out why I was one rare short for that fifth one.

Turned out one of my first four forge attempts had been Zap. I was actually rather annoyed by it (thinking it was just one of those run-of-the-mill named exotics before a guildie quite forcefully told me not to salvage the thing.

Then I torqued him by trading Zap for The Lover. Because I wanted my rainbow unicorn bow.
