So were coming on two weeks after feature patch and still no, “state of the game” article from anet going over what to expect in the coming months. Not only that, but when are we suppose to see new content. I think the feature was great, but we seriously need more content.

Anet are we gonna have to wait another 4 months for actual new content??

After the opening of a thread that became huge where people predicted the Feature Patch to come during June-July and that ANet is trash, the patch actually came one day after the opening of the thread.

I hope this won’t end up the same way, because it gets boring seeing the same type of threads repeated.

That was for the feature patch, totally seperate circumstance. Content patch is different, its been about seven or so weeks since the last content patch. I understand it takes time.to develop stuff, which is the exact reason we should be getting some form of update as to what the status is. I’m not even suggesting a date, all im saying is a state of the game update would be nice just so we know whats coming.

Or, to hell with being patient, and spend your time having fun instead of waiting around preparing to have fun.

While I know we have a long wait for any new content, I’d think they would have given a state/direction of the game blog by now. Wasn’t there supposed to have been one at the start of the year, but it got delayed?

In other mmos people have to wait 6 months to a year before new content is being released. Here people freak out when they go 2 weeks without new content/features.

You miss interpret, the point of my comment was to inquire about a “state of the game” status article. In regards to your other comment your right other games may or may not have to wait that long, but guess what they also receive communication on what’s coming. I’d like to point that I am not saying we do not also receive that communication because we have.

All I am saying is that it has been weeks if not months since we have received any such communication and as an avid player since launch an update on what’s happening with the game is perfectly reasonable.

I am also interested in what will happen to Guild Wars 2 in the near future. In July 2013 the began to adevertise this game with having Biweekly updates . Since it has been six weeks til the last living story update (if you want to count the last update as a full update) I am interested in when they are going to start again.

I understand they are working on the China release and in WvWvW the Spring Tournament is happing still it would be nice for those who are more PvE and Living Story minded to know when Season 2 is going to start.

Until the WvW spring tourney is over, you arent getting more content. I am fairly certain they stated that during the tourney there would be no LS (why divide players between content?), which would also provide them the necessary break to move on to the next LS season.

Second, what they were advertising was likely the speed and frequency of updates regarding the Living Story itself, not game content.

A lot of feedback was collected from posters in various CDI posts. Some of it was about the Living World initiative. If ANet is going to change their approach, perhaps they’re taking the time needed to make adjustments to their approach to LW Season 2. Delay might be a sign they’re considering how to change up content presentation according to player feedback. Years in business taught me that producing the same-old same-old is easy, but that changing your tack takes time and effort.

Not really.

What they did say was: Living Story Season 1 Finale —- Break —-- Feature Patch —-- Break —- Living Story Season 2 start.

They never said anything at all about starting with the 2 week release schedule directly after Feature patch.

Reading the phrase “have some patience” is arguably the funniest thing you can read on this forum, I think 2 years is patience enough to let people complain on this without getting told to “have patience”. Now instead of saying “have some patience” you could do something more productive like I don’t know find a cure for cancer or go build schools in Africa perhaps.

Sarcasm apart, it’s not the fact that people can’t wait that brings these kind of threads on the forum, it’s the fact that we have absolutely no indications from Anet 2 years later that anything is coming and that silence and secretive approach is making people angry. I can put 100$ on the table and say that if anet would just say anything like we are working on an expansion or anything as minimal as it can be announcing something other that a kittenty LS would make people stop crying about it.

What is content for you? Please don’t put LS in the same basket as the word massive content. It’s funny you mention massive content because I am still runing the same dungeons I have been doing the past 2 years, there are no new zones to discover and level a character trough, fractals hasn’t changed much, am I not playing the same game?

Massive content is not a wardrobe update and bug fixes, massive content must be as massive as the game itself, the way they used to do it back in the original GW. Guess I will be going back under that rock of mine you mentionned.

Content is content even if it is no longer available. And there are quite a bit of permanent stuff added as well.
Such as a couple of JPs, Fractals, more Fractals, Southsun Cove, Guild Missions. Edge of the Mists.

GW1 had very few content updates. Most of them were actually stand-alone games, rather than just simple updates, so not really a fair comparison, but if you really want to compare I would say that we have gotten about as much stuff as Factions and Nightfall added.

That’s the nice thing about opinions. They can’t be contradicted because they’re subjective. I would say that Factions added more to GW than has been added to GW2 since launch. I would also say that http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Guild_Wars_Beyond added more content to GW than has been added to GW2 since launch — including the temporary content from the LS. You will — doubtless — disagree.

However, it might be wise to consider that there is another factor besides rising costs in the current trend of game developers offering less value for money. That factor is lowered expectations on the part of consumers.

Sorry mate but GW2 is far and ages back in terms of content compared to GW. You know the thing is I don’t mind waiting if you at least tell me I’m not waiting for nothing, I’m not asking Anet to write me a text about what will be produced for the next 12 years of the game, I just want to know that they are working on some sort of expansion and thats about all I need to know to be happy and go on with my life.

If you are not being sarcastic where is this content u speak of?? There has been only one new dungeon path since release, only 1-3 fractal paths since release, one new zone. You can’t really justify LS content being actual content because it doesn’t stay.

This brings me to my original point, of which I have stated it several times in this thread. I am not arguing that wont be more permanent content or there hasn’t been permanent content. There has and more than likely as time progresses there will be. I’m simply stating where is this communication from Anet? I find it really hard to believe as an avid player you never ever want communication from them.

At the end of the day Anet is a business and the number one thing a business especially a game developer has to think about is business to player communication and though I can understand mystery and secrecy; they are pushing silence a little too much for my taste.

I think a really good idea for them is to have at least quarterly “state of the game” updates.

thinking about it recently, i think one of the big reasons we will need an expansion to get new real content, must be because anet doesnt keep many creation type people on hand for regular release.
They always talk about things taking a lot of resources, that really dont take that much resources, unless you dont have a lot of people with that skill set on staff.

GUI or menu graphics 4 – 8 hours
One level texture 1 – 2 hours
One scenery object 4 – 8 hours
One detailed object(animated or seen up close, like a gun) 8 – 12 hours
One good room in a map 2 – 4 hours
Modeling and painting a character 30 – 50 hours
Rigging a character 4 – 8 hours
Animating a character, per short animation 1 – 2 hours

Now, during development, they could probably do this super fast they probably had multiple concept artists, 3d artists animators etc. Now though they probably have a lot less. Im guessing they like to hire these guys mostly by contract so they wont pick up a bunch of new guys until they decide definitively that they want to make an expansion.
based on random time table things, im guessing they got
1 ui guy
2 3d artists
1-2 concept artists
1-2 animators

in an expansion/creation mode they probably got at least 3, maybe 5 times as many of these guys.
A bit odd though because personally i would say these types are worth it, especially the 3d artists and concept designers, they sell a lot of 3d artwork for 8-10 bucks a pop. If it takes 100 man hours to make, and you are selling lets say to 5% of a 1 million playerbase. thats 5 million per item.

Overall, my guess is the expansion model is better because you get what you pay for. right now they make money mostly off of micro transactions, so you will get game design that focuses on that. If they get money for new content then you will get mostly new content.

Really? You think that a person who is considering playing GW2 for the first time is going to be influenced to buy the game based on content that doesn’t even exist anymore and that they will never be able to play?

No. Just…no.

New players do not care about content that no longer exists. They will not base purchasing decisions based on non-existent game features.

And I will wager that many current players don’t care about content that doesn’t exist anymore, either.

Content that isn’t around anymore is “ex-content”. It has no value other than the memory of it, not even that if you never played it. It certainly doesn’t add substance to the game in its current state anymore.

actually its not. It was content, in present tense, it is not. Much like if i draw picture i have a picture, if i burn the picture, it is no longer a picture.
Now if they make it partially replayable, or add story elements, its content again.

Living story should have, as people said be used as a tool to expand the world and its features.

Say for example the new trait change system was caused by an event where dragons sucked extra magic out of the world, seperating charachters from their true powers through connection to the mist. Now they have to train harder in order to obtain their souls skills. A new group of npc/trait guide people come in who teach new adventurers how to harness this power.

See thats an example of using living story to usher in a larger change. Then the content of the traits becomes a part of the living story, and maybe they build some plotlines into trait aquisition.

Essentially the implementation is disjointed, somewhat lack luster. IMO its failing to deliver on most fronts besides giving something new to do every once in awhile. They have had some good events/features here and there. But rarely have they been introduced very well. and many of those interesting events and features no longer exist.

as an aside, that last cutscene for living story….
well its good that somethings disappear.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, however though you are right that it was new content there a a handful of ways they could keep the content in the game and still retain the essence of the story. All of the content could have easily stayed without effecting the story.

The biggest point you are missing though is if they intended to have LS story content be permanent they would have developed in a way that would be easier to have stay than it already was. Having temporary content was on purpose and was a definite executive decision. If you are an avid forum reader you’ll notice that they started their CD (Collaborative Dev) forums several months back. This was impart due to the large portion of their player-base pushing back on them for communication and also the biggest reason was the player-base was getting tired of temporary content.

Before anyone corrects me yes since then more and more content has been permanent so I will give them with every patch they are going in a step in the right direction. Having said all of this and with being a broken-record the communication needs to happen quicker and more often. No matter everyone’s opinion the larger portion of the player-base would welcome communication on a more consistent basis

I like the living story. It gives the player a sense of being involved in a changing world where stuff happens and then it’s over. It’s like either being at the Final Four this year in Arlington or you weren’t. People showing up in Arlington now isn’t going to be able to experience being at the Final Four. Sure you might be able to catch a Ranger’s game next door if they are playing at home and walk over to Six Flags for some coaster action but not the Final Four.

I’m all for an expansion that opens other parts of Tyria for leveling up in (Cantha) and that’s more likely now with the megaservers attempting to prevent empty zones since new areas will spread out the population.

Back in the day, City of Heroes eventually handled major zone changes by having instances with old content under the rational of time travel. But CoH was a heavily instanced game. GW2 simply isn’t. Plus it’s zones were much smaller so it didn’t overly bloat the game files.

We are heroes. This is what we do!

RIP City of Heroes

They spent four weeks building up to the Feature Pack. Another two isn’t going to kill you.

This is kind of a funny discussion: even though there WAS new content, that content can’t be played now, hence the request by the op for an update on when new content, if any will be coming. That’s about it, right?

Correct :-)
