Who thinks ascended items are 'Exciting'
I’m excited for new skins. “Fractal” weapons are linked in map chat that look great. I’m not excited for the devaluing of exotics and the need to update my stats.
something else to strive for, i guess. game is feeling pretty stale right now. i mainly got on for wvw but the fact that theres no break from 1 week of wvw to the next match is just ridiculous. there should at least be a day or 2 of downtime or SOMEThing
I’m indifferent on them honestly.
Not outraged, but not ’omg yes" either.
I think most people are excited by this. And by excited, I mean the feeling you get when you step on a hornets nest.
The fact my gear I have is devalued and have to work over again for new “marginal” upgrades…… TONS O FUN!
Exciting? The opposite for me. I’ve lost all motivation to log in after this. And after 186 pages of of near unanimous cries saying similarly, I’d say it’s safe to assume that ‘exciting’ isn’t the term anyone would use.

This gear needs to be obtainable outside a dungeon or there are going to be a lot less people playing and buying stuff.

Wasn’t excited before and I’m certain’t not after hearing we’ll need 2k or so mist items per piece of gear.
Also that unique line they have on rings like [&Ag-gkAAA] makes it seem that there will be a unique-equipped system too. Restrictions aren’t fun.
the only people not excited are really the ones in the forums complaining because everyone I talk to in game is thinking it was a great addition and cant wait to work towards them. Forum folk are the vocal minority in GW2.
I am not excited one bit about having to grind for gear. I already work hard for gear and i’m not even full exotics yet. I don’t want to put all my energy into getting gear and not enjoying the game itself. It feels like actual work when i have to have the newest and best gear to just compete with everyone. I just want to use skill to beat down a player or take down a boss.
o god that ring i need it to bad my triforge pendent is now trash
I’m opposed to the whole concept of new, higher-stat gear. I want to win or lose based on skill, not the numbers on my equipment.

Numbers prove you wrong. You’ll see. When the game starts getting less and less players, you will wonder what happened.

I love how people say a group is a ‘vocal minority’ whenever the obvious majority does not support their point of view. Especially considering how only a small handful of people ever asked for this.
So yes, I can see how you consider the 10-15 people you asked in game to be a majority over the 9,000+ users who have voiced their disdain over this move.

I rarely post on the forums, I am not excited about this and doubt I will ever log back in.
Vocal = Minority.
People around me = Majority.
You are probably not informed by the “real majority” → I think they already moved back to WoW.
For me, it’s not the greatest thing I’ve ever heard of but it’s definitely not the end of the world as some people on the forums see it as. Of course, we would have to go through more trouble to pick up these items and yes, it could have been implemented in a better way. However, they have arrived and probably are here to stay. What we, the fans of this game, can do is to make the best of what we are given and lead our developers in the right direction instead of quitting.
Although the personal storyline lacked the uniqueness that it advertised, it is our money that determines the outcome of this game. If we choose to keep supporting the game we love and assist our developers to make this game better, I believe that Guild Wars 2 can become an entity that we can all love for years to come.
I like them, we needed more unique items, I didn’t like the x y of z item styles, they were fairly bland.
Power creep. Gear treadmill. Mudflation.
0% excited. I’m playing other games until Anet removes that garbage.
GW2 was a niche game, unlike the rest of the market, where I’d throw my money.
Now it’s all the same, and I’ve not been giving this type of game my money previously and have no intentions of starting now. I’m not playing that kind of game for a reason. This is now that kind of game.

The thing is, I don’t think we owe them that much. I was at the ‘support the dev through their dark days’ stage about a month ago. The blog thread at least gave hope these items weren’t just stat upgrades but i see thats not true either
i cannot get excited to grind 90hrs in a dungeon per piece.
I love new skins. Torment weps, rare drops, WiK skins, FoW armor…I don’t remember these weps/armor having stat boosts or some gimmick infusion slot. Anyone?
But wait that was GW1…here we are getting a “Item progression”. Stop feeding me BS. Stop dressing up your press release comments. Get us back to Guild Wars…
The updates awesome, new content, dungeon, increased rewards from dungeons, skill updates. New skins, recipes, etc etc. But 500 rights can’t correct this wrong ANUT.
OMG ! So excited!
I can increase my stats by jumping in to the gear grinder. How has no one ever thought of this before?! It is a unique and exciting concept. So excited.

But it’s such a novel, stress-free, grind-free, tedium-free and fun-filled idea, rite??? It’s not The Skinner Box all over again, NO SIR!!
The best part is that infusions add regular stats also! Exotics are totally obsolete. Yay!

Man, I was thinking it was going to be like a 40-50% primary stat increase. I was so wrong dude. Like, shame on me, I’m such a fool.
It’s actually closer to 75% with the higher-end infusions….
“I hope you are all as excited about these new items as I am!” – Linsey Murdock
Who actually thinks these items are ‘exciting’. Its just a stat upgrade and a color change. Theres nothing exciting about that. At least the thought of infusions MIGHT have been exciting, like the 6th rune effects on some runes, but nope, just another stat increase.
Maybe our definitions of ‘exciting’ are different. This is clearly not exciting imo.
In my limited time in-game since announced, I have yet to see anyone say anything positive about the upcoming addition of a new tier of gear.
I am absolutely not excited by the prospect of the new gear.
The idea of the dungeon itself? Yes, sounds great. New gear and infusion slots? Not at all.
Update my 5 sets of exotic armor to match the new armor, give it the slot of infusions and ill be bloody happy. They said they would have no gear progression and that is what I liked about gw1 and gw2. I and many others do not need gear with ever increasing stats to make a game enjoyable.

This. I don’t think the Guild Wars community has ever been this excited. Even launch day wasn’t nearly as rousing as this has been.

I know this is just me being redundant now, but. That is such a perfect wording. Erry-1 so excited…

Thank you, this was an excellent response. Yes, learning that all my exotics are now obsolete has me more excited then I’ve been in months.
I’m excited. Not that my opinion counts much or anything lol.
Looks like Ascended is a nice carrot to chase but critically it does not lock me out of any content. Today I can run all dungeons and all paths with my crap rare and exotic loadout (about 50-50), I can run around in Orr and Frostgorge and most probably Lost Shores without fear of dying and do all content. Looks like I need Ascended gear to run the deeper Fractals, but Fractal progression resets every week anyway. So at the server flip everyone will be running level 1, which I’m pretty sure I can do. Yeah by the end of the week hardmode players will be at level 50 nightmare difficulty or whatever, but that’s cool can’t have everything.
W3 however is a whole different kettle of fish, I agree.
I’m excited too.I can’t wait for the new items.

Well, you literally can’t wait around to get them no. In fact, go run that new dungeon, about 2000 times.

Why do you feel they are obsolete? Not trolling serious question. Obsolescence would imply that they are useless, i.e. will get you killed when attempting content. I think there are only 2 situations where this is valid:
1. Fractal Mists → at deeper levels where agony and the infinite difficulty scaling is a factor. Though I can’t really make a call on this since 1.) no one know when / how / at one point agony will stop progression UNLESS you have the necessary infusions, it could be level 100 for all we know, and 2.) the difficulty level resets every week
2. W3 → this is a legit concern. Stats don’t matter as much as teamwork and coordination its true, but they’re certainly not trivial. Which is why level 80 exotic geared characters roll boosted ones.
As a casual PVX type I like the changes overall but I can see how other playstyles would be impacted more.

Well, you literally can’t wait around to get them no. In fact, go run that new dungeon, about 2000 times.
Now now. 5 tokens every 15-30mins or so, thats 15 tokens a ‘run’, which is a chain of 3 randomly picked areas. So 3 new pieces total, that’s going to be about 400 ‘runs’. But yeah, times that by 15mins optimistically, or 30mins realistically, since you’ll be spending time looking for lower level fractal-goers to reset that agony gear-barrier.
What you should’ve said is not ‘2000 runs’ or ‘400 runs’, but ‘200 hours minimum’. In fact, there’s other steps to all this to crafting the pieces and getting other components, so most ppl agree that every piece is more like 90hrs. But I’m going to say ~70hrs per piece is probably closer to what it will be.
So, not 2000 runs, but 200-300hrs of the same handful of (rather-small) areas, over and over and over and over.
Have fun with that.
I’m not excited that I have to get new gear that I was previously comfortable with.
-Mike Obrien, President of Arenanet
I’m excited, can’t wait to get started.
what is exciting about something that has been done in every other mmo? Hell even warhammer had a stat to gate content.
Enjoy running the dungeon 5000 times! All other content is laid waste after just 3 months. Funny that anyone considers this “more to do.”
I spent hour upon hour upon hour getting one of my characters fully exoticed and my other close to that point. Then came all the time grinding up gear just for the visual aspect and then transmuting it.
All out the window in one patch. So, yes its exciting, just like getting bit by a snake is exciting in a very bad way.
The only part that’s “exciting” about ascended items is working out which game I should play now instead of Guild Wars 2.
I’m excited for the ascended stuff. Looking forward to it.
People still completely over reacting.

I’m excited. I just spent 100 more dollars in APBs cash shop.
I have money, just nothing to buy in ANets cash shop. Since I do not gamble chests, random dyes, random pets, those are all items I have no interest in.
I say just stick the Ascended Gear in the cash shop and let me spend my money. Since I am never going to grind another level of gear, or continue to do so forever, let those with money just buy what we want.

Most people I know of IRL (including me) are purely disappointed and never appear on forums/in-game, they are just not excited.

What’s there to try about it? I’m familiar with the concept of a gear treadmill, of mudflation, of tiered content. I don’t like that garbage. Why should I try it? Every other MMO out there right now has that stuff. I already know I don’t want it or like it. That’s why I bought a game that told me there wouldn’t ever be this kitten.
I’m sure the new content is fun to play, but I’m not going to do it, because I’m not a hamster and I’m not getting in that wheel. That is not fun for me and so I won’t do it — and because that’s how the game is going to play out, I won’t play it, either. Never again will I put myself in a position where I need to eternally chase after gear. If you’re going to do that, might as well remove the level cap and continue stat increases on level-up — after all you’d be getting ‘rewarded’ for time spent playing the game, and that’s all this gear bullkitten is anyway.
And then, years from now, whoever is the most skillful at the game wins!*
