Why are all the active guilds WvW?
in WvWvW, you can use medieval or modern military tactics, which is fun.

What no. This is the most exaggerated comment I have seen on the forums all day wtf, this game requires no strategist anyone can tell people to go to area X or we need more people at area Y. Why do you think they made commander cost 100G instead of actually being earned ? Because it’s something anyone can do and it isn’t hard.

I respect that you think it’s fun. I don’t like it though… which is okay. The game has so many other incredible features. I just wish I could find a big, active, organized, friendly guild which wasn’t focused on WvW.
I am in a Pve guild with 260 members or so, do a lot of dungeons, got my dungeon masters and few others are pretty close. Is no point us being anything else since there are already massive wvw guilds on my server. Just wish there was some new content or something to do coming soon but that is for another thread I suppose

The social coherence created by raiding is what held (and holds) (PvE) guilds together, at least in e.g. WoW. The need to organize 25 people to show up well-prepared and on time and follow raid leader directions leads to all sorts of interactions which bind people together and/or strengthens the guild – if it pulls through. If it doesn’t, it always leaves a bunch of players looking for a new guild, keeping the pool of guild candidates fresh.
I’m hoping DE’s with more scope and more involved world champion fights will bring the need to organize, and with it will come solid PvE guilds.
Jasher, I suppose it depends on the guild. I agree with you that most of the active ones do a lot of WvW. My guild has over 450 members and we do a lot of WvW, but we also do a lot of PvE content. Just keep looking, and don’t feel bad about joining one for a time and moving on if it isn’t your cup of tea. Eventually you’ll fine a guild that balances the two well and doesn’t pressure members to play outside their interests.
This forum is a wretched hive of scum and villainy. ~DevilLordLaser
There is just no incentive to have a PvE only guild. There are no raids here, and dungeons are limited to 5 people. Meta events usually have more than enough people, so you don’t need to grab all your guildies to do it.

Sadly there is not large group PvE content to bind a guild together and the same could be said of sPvP/tPvP because there are no large scale levels. WvW on the other hand is designed perfectly for large scale organized involvement which is why most active guilds focus on it.
A lot of active WvW guild still do their fair share of dungeons and sPvP/tPvP though.
We have a large PvX guild, 4 PvE nights and 2 nights WvW – over 200 members log in daily and dungeons are run all day long.
Looking forward to hearing more about Guild Missions!
On my server there’s a guild “Obliteration” that’s quite specialized in PVE stuff. They also have a lot of peeps from other guilds following them in their PVE adventures. There’s a particular cave where you’ll, nearly always, find them. I think it’s actually the central place for all of them to join together.
Exo, but I think they disbanded, was also known for their PVE specific stuff. Specialized in massive multi cloaks, consumeables and rare items gathering.
And before I forget (personal message although)

What server are you on? Some are more WvW-focused than others.
If you are in one of the top tier servers, you may want to move somewhere else with a higher proportion of PvE’ers. Check out the weekly rankings in the WvW forums and pick a new server in the middle (before paid transfers start).
Themepark vs Sandbox
Themepark will eventually get boring because it’s scripted. Doing it more than once is like watching the same movie playing over and over again.
Sandbox is player driven content. It’s always random. The most memorable experiences for me are in WvW. I’ve experienced many epic battles and various warfare tactics.
When player culling is fixed, WvW is going to be so ridiculously fun people won’t want to log off.

…but it’s not okay. You are lost, we have an obligation to save you and show you the WvWvW way. You are incomplete now and you are lost in a cloud, we get that. We will fix you!

Which server you play? Else nobody can point you in the right direction. PvE is more a means to an end for most MMOers, this extra bit of stats to stand better in PvP.
because the way the game is made you don’t need anyone for pve (unless you find someone who wants to do an event with you).
I play on Jade Quarry, but I’m not against transferring if I can find a big, active, friendly, organized PvX guild that wasn’t so hellbent on WvW.
Maybe it’s a relative size thing, I feel like there’s got to be big PvX guilds out there, but the sheer mass and size of WvW guilds could be overwhelming.
There may not be as many sizable PvE guilds, because many people don’t feel like they’re getting quality PvE, but then again some people do.

Being on Jade Quarry definitely explains the situation.
JQ was one of the earliest destination servers for committed WvW’ers (I believe most of the ex-DAoC’ers went there). They are also probably one of the only original big WvW servers to maintain their position at the top. Other servers fall apart under the pressure, but JQ sticking around is probably down to the maturity and quality of their WvW guilds.
Definitely look at moving to a mid-tier server on the WvW rankings list before free transfer end. Maybe advertise in the guild recruiting forum here what you are looking for, and I’m sure a suitable PvE guild will snap you up and ease the move.

I’ve been on the guild recruitment forum. All the big, active guilds on there are WvW focused. The PvX guilds are really small and seem really fickle.
These is one of the worths post of a carebear for sure, and i really wish i could have a magic potion a pk all the pve heroes also they dont deserve wvw buff.

I actually play a lot of Tournament PvP. I like PvP a lot. I don’t like WvW. Also… keep your buffs. I don’t care.
I really don’t like WvW… as a matter of fact, it’s the only aspect of the game I don’t like. All the healthy, active guilds I’ve seen are all WvW focused… it’s slightly annoying. Aren’t there any big, healthy, active PvX guilds out there?
I’ve been in some really good guilds, but they are so WvW focused and driven… not my cup of tea. They all tell me… if you WvW with us, you will like it! TRUST ME!!! … I never do. At this point, I’ve come to accept the fact that I’ll never like WvW… which is fine.
I love dungeons, I’m level 30 at fractals… and almost to the point of getting dungeon master. I love tournament PvP…. love it… so yeah… I love the game. I just hate WvW… but I feel like all the good guilds are WvW focused. It’s depressing.
Well, it’s all about preferences. I’m not much of a sPVP person.
Anyways, you know you can start a “PVP Guild”, right? Go to Lion’s Arch and every other major cities (to recruit some new players/players using their alts) and shout:
Step right up! Step right up! <Guild Name> is recruiting for players who like sPVP. We are a sPVP oriented guild that <insert guild goal here>
:)

I’m already in an sPvP guild. I’m just looking for a PvE/PvX guild right now which isn’t so focused and adamant on WvW participation from its members.
looks youve got a few options, you should probably say what times you play on. Lot of guilds might be from different countries and play at different times

Where are these options? I’m genuinely curious.
GW2 is not gear-treadmill-based so the endgame is mostly PvP.
Even if they released 10man content it wouldn’t be farmed unless people got superior stats out of it.
GW2 has no PvE guild content because that is a thing of geargrinding MMOs.

Why do you think so? I strongly disagree with this sentiment. Unique skins would be enough.

How is this a carebear post? I’m just looking for an active guild which isn’t all about WvW.
WvW is not content-driven gameplay like PvE. There’s only so many times you can run the same 8 dungeons before they lose their entertainment value. Additionally, as others have mentioned, dungeons are limited to 5 players, which makes them a pretty poor content choice for large guilds. Therefore, large and stable guilds with players mostly at endgame will typically be PvP oriented.
Your choice of server has a lot to do with it – Jade Quarry, Sea of Sorrows, Blackgate, Sanctum of Rall… these are typically going to be dominated by WvW players, with less representation for PvE content. I can’t speak for any servers but my own, but Tarnished Coast certainly has plenty of PvE-focused guilds with large populations. Of course, if RPers bother you, TC’s zones are not a place you’ll want to find yourself.
It seems like the real problem with your search is that you’re sampling from a WvW-focused server.
I find WvW lacks direction. There’s no longevity in it. It’s not very accessible to a first time player either. What really harms it though is the skill / class system and lack of trinity. Everything just deteriorates into zerg rather than a skillfull play of team dynamic involving pressure, mitigation, timing, etc.
I think a lot of problems this game has comes from the lack of roles and meaningful difficulty that plays against said roles through intelligently designed, challenging AI.

That’s you. And me too, for that matter.
The majority already proved to not care for new content unless rewards are better than other content.
