Why are farewell posts forbidden?
They are forbidden because we don’t care if you’re leaving.
It’s essentially a lame attempt at image control. Yes, many farewell posts are also lame, but I’d rather see them individually evaluated versus having some wet blanket policy forbidding them.
If you want to provide your feedback, spare us the farewell and drama.
Just post a thread titled “My Feedback” and post your objective feedback without tarnishing it with emotions.
They are forbidden because we don’t care if you’re leaving.
Also, most people who care enough to leave a farewell post are really just doing it to get some attention, and will probably be back in a week or two if they leave at all.
It’s PR management, no more, no less.
Keep in mind, this thread topic too I suspect is verbotten considering it’s questioning moderation policies.
Thank you for understanding.
“it doesn’t make you spend hours preparing to have fun, rather than having fun”
Guild missions say otherwise.
This is now the only mmo I never left. I have yet to post one “I’m leaving”, I always plan on coming back at some point, had fun at some point with said game, like why would I think anyone cares? We all know what happens. So spare us the over the top drama, because….. wait…. we don’t care (in small caps even) don’t care.
Because they don’t add anything of substance to the discussion and there is no offtopic section.
Because the only people that ever really leave are those that no longer care enough about the game to say anything at all.
… Well most of them. Some leave because they can’t spare any time, or they found a game they prefer (like a certain MMOFPS in my case,) but those reasons don’t make for very constructive farewell posts either.
They are forbidden because they could be counted……I think that number would be shocking
People don’t quit GW, you can’t. It’s a game you bought once and then you can play it whenever. You can stop now, but in a few months time there will be a moment of boredom so big that you will install it back just to see what is new.
Thus being said, no need for goodbye posts from people who will either way eventually come back.
To add to that, most of the goodbye fair well i’m leaving posts mention the same things which is their own personal opinion, not general. What I’ve read from most people quitting is things they are bothered by, but which do not bother me. What they say is not to be considered a general opinion (a game can’t be of everyone’s taste) and to take in consideration and change the game because of one quitter is nothing justifiable.
If you like the game you stick with it, you play it, and yes, you complain to the company together with all the other current players and hope they will listen then.
One “omg i don’t like this i quit” thread should NEVER make the game for the people that right now are online and playing.
Just my 2 cents.
Because they don’t add anything of substance to the discussion and there is no offtopic section.
I disagree. There are many farewell posts that have great concern and substances in them, which are beneficial for the public and also for the game in general. People take their time to write feedback on what the problems are , and not even 10 minutes later, the thread gets closed, I don’t think that’s fair at all. When it gets out of control and out of topic, then it can be closed. It should be judged per individual thread.
Because this isn’t a subscriber MMO
People don’t make leaving posts when they stop playing Call of Duty or LoL
Stop thinking this is emo-whineland WoW.
It is not.
People should just quietly go take a break, play other MMOs.
They will be back.
Because most of them are just a lame grab at attention or people trying to stir up trouble. As you see them, add those people to your friends list and see how of those people actually leave the game. 9/10 of them are just blowing smoke out there kittens.
Why leave short posts on the board that serve to stir discontent when they mostly come from lying players?
Dragonbrand
Because they don’t add anything of substance to the discussion and there is no offtopic section.
Therein lies the conundrum. There is something of substance in every loss of active players to any MMO, it is highly cumulative in effect, no doubt, and easily ignored until the frog starts to boil in earnest.
They are called flounce posts.
The only threads that have less validity are “I want a refund” and “I am gonna sue!” threads.
The people who really are going to quit simply stop playing.

Well they dont want people to get ideas and to show that the population is slowing down. Hear no evil see no evil type thing.
Most people wont be back – they didnt return for Halloween and not for the Lost Shore. (my friends I should state)
After this last debacle I will not let any more friends or acquaintances touch this game.
If someone has some constructive feedback to give, then they need to put it in the proper forum. If it is a bug issue, then they should be putting that information in the bug forums. If it is a game play issue, then they should put that in the suggestion thread. There are plenty of ways to give the feedback without it being a “farewell” thread. The majority of the farewell threads are not constructive.
Cause we’re tired of them. Thankfully ANet seems to realize this.
Just go…

You don’t have to leave a farewell in order to leave an evaluation. Farewell posts are generally self-serving attempts at attention grabbing.
While I won’t be playing this game much longer (1-2weeks tops) I won’t be posting a farewell. I will simply let my thoughts be known along the way with my feedback.
smack..Wut?…smack…smack…
The game has no sub. It just goes on and you can play whenever.
If you don’t want to play right now, don’t log in. Go play something else.
If you want to play again, just double click your GW2 icon.
If you want to leave a big whiney emo post about your reasons to not want to play right now, because of course your opinion is so important we all must know about it in great detail, don’t.

People who pay attention to the forums notice when threads are deleted and which threads those are. The game management get a reputation for fixing their problems by stopping people talking about them instead of actually fixing the problems…
Because they are almost always written with nonconstructive intent, by people with no idea what goes into game design, as a way for the poster to get some attention as they stamp their little feet because the game isn’t designed just for them.
If they allow farewell posts, it will just clog up the forum with useless whining – moreso than exists already.
Also, it would necessitate the inclusion of welcome back posts for those of you who can’t leave properly.
Because the people who make a big deal about leaving are usually going to return.
It’s the people who leave quietly that won’t be back.
They should take some quaggan with them; maybe all of them.
Drama queens! If you don’t like the game, don’t play it
I love the game. Not quaggans. ;]
I was thinking we’re not permitted to have threads talking about why other threads aren’t permitted.
Rule 1 of the moderation game: Don’t talk about moderation.
“Look at me everyone! Look over here! I no longer wish to play a video game! Now let me spend 2000 words to tell you why!”
They serve no purpose except to embarrass the author, if the author were self-aware enough to be embarrassed. They are generally long winded, hang wringing, self absorbed autobiographical tales taking us from the author’s first checker game as a youth all the way to the current game they are quitting. These posts bring nothing new to the discussion, and, by their nature elicit the type of responses that are particularly unhelpful.
In short: it’s cheap manufactured drama tainting all legitimate criticism by association.
