I’m a longtime fan of GW2 and even pre-ordered it and was in the beta. It was a great game and a smoothish launch. Then in the last year they have made sooo many changes and also released an expansion. Seems like a million changes all happened so fast and some still make little sense to me, but when in Rome.

At first I was super excited for the expansion, new content, maybe levels, or yadda yadda. Then I heard it was no level increase, but I was still excited because that ment they were trying something new instead of just making us little by little stronger like all other MMOs.

Once I learned about the new content I was very disappointed.
A new zone is great, but I’m more wvw/pvp based and even when I’m not they bring out a new zone every half a year or so it seems like. *

Then I looked at the mysteries and was checking what’s new for non-new zone players.. nothing really.. some very minor perks but worth 50$… na.. might bring out some later

How about those legendary weapons? I’ve yet to get a precursor so I was excited since the statement arena net released made it sound like you could earn your way towards one. However after release.. I could find almost no information on it, and it sounds like you just buy the mats off the TP and done.. so much for a quest or cheaper/non-gold way to get them. I don’t have all ascended armor because I can’t afford it, so why do that to us!

Hmm, what’s next.. o the elete skill to turn like my ranger into a druid. Looking at the wiki it seems confusing and also seems to only be for the new zone, so another.. meh..

The new class looked awesome, and I most likely would have made one. However I still like playing my old classes and paying 50 bucks for 1 new class I most likely won’t be omg about is a waste.

There is the new guild stuff, but looking at it I don’t think it works for a 1 man or 3 man type guild. Only for HUGE guilds which I’m not a part of.

The cost of 50 bucks is a bit high for almost no extra content unless you are pve, and they even did not give veteran players an option to buy it cheaper. At first they said it included the game so made us feel like we were double buying the core game, then they just made the core game 100% free.. so yeah.. that was a kick in the shins.

So I decided not to get the expansion, just nothing in it for me for the most part. Upon deciding this I start to look at the game as a whole for me. I enjoy wvw/pvp and some pve here/there. They nuked my gold farms like they did for most people, so I can’t get gold cept the old way of grinding around. I don’t mind grinding around and playing pvp/wvw, but recently they changed all my pvp pots to exp boosters.. that sucked and knowing that now they can just swap any of my hard earned items for other items with out a good long warning.. upsets me a little. With the game now free if you have an email account, botters are at an all time high, before you could report them and they would eventually get banned and they were out that core cost.. but free and it’s worse than ever since they can just make new accounts.

What does that leave me.. leave us, the non-expansion players.. it leaves us questioning if we should be playing this mmo.

I’m not posting this to rage or qq, but am wanting the devs to look at it and understand that they or someone up there is making bad calls for their players. There are better options and better ways of doing things. Few examples would be, lets players buy the class with gems, or force players to have a valid CC number to sign up so if they are botters you can permaban that card, don’t make things so confusing to do that you need to spend more time on the wiki to figure it out than doing it. The game should be fun to play and it’s getting to the point where it is not.

This MMO has a good fan base and can still change to be better. I know that producers are always pushing things out the door before they are ready, but it’s not all their fault, it’s everyone on the team who works on the product. I hope you can change this around before it’s too late.

I’ll still play here/there if I’m bored enough, but why play if it’s not fun?

The text you have in bold seems to suggest that you think these things should have warranted its $50 purchase price individually in order to be satisfying. >.> Perhaps rephrasing some of that would help your argument?

Aside from that, given the prices of DLC and other add-on content in most games these days, I’d say HoT and all of the things it contains more than qualifies as an expansion worth $50.

However if you really aren’t having fun anymore than I don’t really think anyone could fault you for not wanting to play. I don’t think anyone wants to spend too much doing something they don’t enjoy, but there are a great many of us that DO still enjoy the game, and (dare I say it?) are enjoying it even more because of the differences in HoT.

I guess ultimately I’m not really sure what the point of this thread (and the others like it) is? If you don’t enjoy the game, don’t play it. If they had overhauled everything in a different way than the situation may just as well have been reversed and those enjoying HoT may have been the ones left unsatisfied. That’s just the way it is, any release like this is going to be somewhat polarizing.

The point of this thread is to hopefully catch the attention of a dev since occasionally they will read these and this is about the only way to communicate with them.

Another point of this thread is to point out they made the game not fun, they invited in botters with their have unlimited accounts as long as you can fake an email address, they’ve made it more complex than it needs to be with systems that you can’t understand until you invest hours searching/wiki for what some new strange thing they introduced is suppose to do, and that the HoT expansion does not really do much for people who are not wanting to play that one new zone or play the new race.

Umm you clearly have not even read about it, there are 4 new zones, and a new profession, not race. Not to mention each profession has a brand new way of playing it via elite specializations.

Even though there’s way more than that, I’ll stop there, because you obviously don’t give enough of a kitten to actually read up. I’m confused as to why you even bothered posting this; I mean, if you aren’t interested, yeah, there’s no point in buying it. But loads of people are enjoying the expansion, and frankly, the devs don’t give a rat’s behind if people who haven’t even bought it are not happy with it.

Yes, I did state race instead of profession..

However I don’t want to play the new zones or profession. I want to know what all it offers to players who do not want those 2 things.. what is the major benefit to wvw players and pvp players? since that is a good chunk of the game, it’s called Guild Wars, not Guild go around do stuff but not fight one another.

Also my last post and my first post explain why I posted this.. and I’ll say it again, for the devs to hopefully see it and try to steer the game to better seas.

I think people are just inherently scared of change in all things in life. That will probably be misinterpreted by the OP, but I think it’s the cause of a lot of expansion complaints.

It is intimidating, I now no longer know how to play 9 different professions at expert level.

Yes, you are right that it is intimidating to play 9 different professions at expert level, however I only play a couple and like them. The Revenant just is not my cup of tea.

So you basically don’t even do the bare minimum of information gathering to see what the expansion is about. When called out on this, you come up with some Guild Wars explanation showing you have absolutely no clue as to why the game is called guild wars (hint, it has to do with the lore and less with current guilds waging wars).

For a fan of the game, you have a very wierd way of showing how deep your desire for lore or understanding goes (that being non existant to be truthful).

I smell a troll.

As to what it offers wvw and pvp players? A full set of new skills and gameplay for each class. Sorry arenanet felt the need to make the wvw and pvp content/maps free for everyone. I’m sure them adding those for HoT only players would have been received better….

The elite specs are absolutely game changing. Beyond that, you have a HUGE amount of content available to you that you don’t want, so it’s possible you shouldn’t have bought it if you’re going to ignore all of it.

I’d also point out it was pretty clear and no false pretenses were made that PvP or WvW players were going to get a lot of new content. Each got 1 new map, and we knew that before the expac launched.

I’m sorry, but the tl;dr of this seems “I don’t really want to bother doing any of the new stuff, so there’s nothing in it from me”

In which case yes, there is nothing in it for you.

-

The post also seems to have quite a bit of misinformation, so let’s see if I can actually clear some things:

- I don’t really see why you’re only counting the non-new zone masteries, since if you have masteries at all it means you own the expansion, and thus very much need the Maguuma masteries as well.

- Precursor crafting was never intended to be a shortcut to a legendary – or they wouldn’t be legendary at all. It’s simply a surefire way to get them without having to pray to the RNG gods for a precursor drop. Also they don’t really work like that.

- Elite specializations aren’t only for the new zones. Also I’m not really sure what you find confusing about them, but I’m more than happy to help if you have questions.

- You seem to be looking for a single feature that is supposed to be worth 50$ on its own, even though for 50$ you get tons of them, not only the 1 new class. (which is amazing btw)

- Guild Halls are for actual, you know, guilds – not really for 1-3 people. Maybe you should try joining an active guild – not only it’s incredibly easy to do so, but you’ll have more fun playing in a bigger group, and you’ll have access to all the guild-related content.

- Honestly, not only I find the amount of content in HoT completely worth the price, but I also kinda feel like talking about pricing in GW2 is kinda crazy when put in prospective – no MMO out there offers this amount of content for no added subscription fee. Not to mention that the expansion content itself isn’t everything you’re getting – much more is going to come in the future updates.

All this said, if you’re mostly into pvp/wvw you can very easily focus on those and ignore the rest, and you don’t even need the expansion to do that, since the new wvw maps and the new pvp mode are available to everyone.

It has to start somewhere. It has to start sometime.

Thank you for an informational reply Zeghart, funny the others just go on and on about stuff I’ve already covered and don’t answer anything and some even thought I had bought the expansion and was complain about it after buying it.. but I’m not, I just want info and the devs to know this expansion is not flying for fans like myself.

I did not know that, and to all those before I did read the https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Guild_Wars_2:_Heart_of_Thorns but the information on how the stuff is unlocked is not always complete and the past videos GW2 has released has stated false information on it.

But yes, aside from a new prof, the elite skill, and the very minor perk or the non-mag mastery (not counting the mag mastery since I won’t be in mag) that is all there is for pvp/wvw players.

You can say that the new pvp/wvw stuff is part of the expansion, but I would disagree on that since you don’t need to purchase the expansion.

The elite skills might be the only thing of interest to me and all those who don’t want to play the new profession.

Maybe when the expansion is down to 20$ or something worth just that one thing I’ll consider purchasing it, but until then the game still needs quite a bit of work in terms of botters/economy, and how confusing some things are.. good example of that is the precursor in the expansion.. here is the wiki.. https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Kudzu_I:_The_Experimental_Longbow take quite a few clicks to finally reach the recipie.. https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Kudzu_Experiment just to craft the dang thing.. might be why many people are confused/off put for crafting the legendary since the precursor is so difficult to find the recipe for..

Again I hope a dev takes the time to look this over and realize that they have made a mistake and try in the future to make things right. Else I don’t see the game lasting too much longer.. aka here comes GW3!! yay!

Honestly I can’t really see the mistake you’re talking about – the new expansion adds stuff for basically every kind of player, and that’s really what Anet needed to do – only because they decided to make the wvw and pvp maps available to everyone doesn’t mean it’s not new and interesting stuff.
Surely you wouldn’t have been happier if they gated those behind the expansion price.
If anything it seems like a very player-friendly move from Arenanet, instead of a mistake.

But yeah, as I said you can very easily keep playing the game without buying the expansion if you’re strictly only interested in the pvp/wvw, even though you might be at a small disadvantage for not having access to the extra build options the elite specializations offer.

In any case you’re in no rush to buy the expansion, so you can just keep playing and enjoy the new stuff you already got for free.

It has to start somewhere. It has to start sometime.

You might consider reading up on the restrictions for Play4Free accounts. I’m not sure how easy it would be for botters considering they can’t move income around.

There is a plethora of resources to enlighten anyone who seeks information on any aspect of the expansion. Hopes that they are taken advantage of before any purchases.

Those maps may have came out at the same time as the expansion, but since they don’t require it then they are more like an update.
I don’t think they would have gated those maps, and yes that would have been a bad move to make players pay for that.

They have made a few big mistakes, some over time and other’s recently.

One would be charging 50 bucks for something wvw/pvp players most likely won’t use. 80% of this expansion caters only to the pve people, while the other pvp/wvw people are left to either skip it (like myself), or pay 50 bucks for 20% of the content.
—A smarter decision would have been to separate out the different features, charge individual prices for them, and also offer a cheaper bundle for them all if the player wants.. not force players to buy stuff they don’t need to get the 1 thing they want… that’s like bundling crap with a good item just to sell it.. and I’m not buying.

Letting botters have free rule with their free core game that has no authentication aside from a simple email, thus making more core problems and not fixing them.
—A smarter decision would have been to use a CC to get the account set up and if they are a bot you can just ban all accounts that use that CC or something along those lines. We need to get rid of botters, not make it easier for them to bot, hack, ruin the economy.

Making it complex to understand their game. (don’t confuse game difficulty with understanding)
—A smarter decision would be to have a clear/simple flow to the game so that a person does not need to spend an hour looking up just how to get 1 item. I don’t mind grinding for an item, but not knowing what I need to grind or how to get it or where to get it can be frustrating since the wiki is not always correct/up to date.

If you only do WvW/PvP and think the content in the expansion is too light for you, then yah, don’t buy it. Continue playing WvW/PvP and ignore the expansion since it’s not what you’ll be playing. If you ever change your mind you can buy it then.

What does that leave me.. leave us, the non-expansion players.. it leaves us questioning if we should be playing this mmo.

It’s kind of like going to see a movie. You buy a ticket and go enjoy it but when the sequel comes out would you complain that the old movie is boring because you didn’t want to buy tickets to the new one?

I’ll still play here/there if I’m bored enough, but why play if it’s not fun?

If it’s not fun for you playing the old content then it wasn’t fun before HOT came out. It’s all still there and in many ways it’s improved the only thing missing is the new skills that make it somewhat trivial (excluding a few fights).

I highly recommend scraping together the coin for the xpac, you’ll get what is basically a new game and then you can come on forums and complain about how broken it is with the rest of us!

Perfect example, except imagine if a few sequels to the “good movie” came out that sucked.. would you pay to go see the next sequel?

All the GW2 updates have been like mini expansions.. they have given us new zones, new updates, new.. well most everything.. and it’s been slouching/going down hill.. so when they finally ask for us to pay.. should we pay for half put together work? Not me, if there was extra stuff that I could only obtain in the expansion for pvp/wvw then that would be different. But a new class that I won’t play, an elite skill that kinda interests me, and a mastery system that give me… umm slightly faster res for my pvp/wvw (and might not even apply for all I know).

Yeah.. unless the player is omg about the new class it’s rather useless for us pvp/wvw peeps out there. The elite skills might be ok, but i’ve yet to face someone with them… so not enough info on them.

Just hope a dev looks this over and understands to not let the producers do this to the game! I’m sure they are the big threat with their money grabbing hands.

I’d pay to go see the sequel if I enjoyed the base movie, yea. Some people didn’t like Terminator 2-5, but I enjoyed em and watched em. This does not mean that they “suck” it means they weren’t to your tastes, and that’s totally fine. However, don’t knock it til you try it. Just because you read a bad review on metacritic doesn’t mean it’s a bad game, it means someone else thought it was bad. Do you always form your opinions based on other people?

All the GW2 updates have been like mini expansions.. they have given us new zones, new updates, new.. well most everything.. and it’s been slouching/going down hill.. so when they finally ask for us to pay.. should we pay for half put together work?

But you’re getting significantly more than that with the expac. You’re getting a new class, an expansion of every other class, brand new WvW map with new features, new armor sets, guild halls (they were actually balanced around 10 man guilds, not 500 man guilds), masteries both in tyria and HoT that add a whole new dynamic to the game, vastly improved personal story, etc. This expansion gave a ton more than living story updates. There are bugs, yes. There’s no doubt in anyone’s mind about that. However what makes guild wars great is the fact that they’re constantly updating and fixing things, far more than any other MMO I’ve ever played.

The other thing I know is that for my $50, I’m going to keep getting more and more content, just as I did with the base game. More living story updates, more balance updates, more skins, more more more; all for the low price of $50.

Shards of Glory as an example? There are several things in WvW/PvP that are only attainable there. Then you have the fact that guilds can now claim locations in WvW to give additional benefits. I mean, that’s amazing as all get out! Get in your WvW guild, claim a location and ride around on a freaking motorcycle cannon hybrid! Forget alpha golems, it’s all about the new add-ons specifically to WvW that came with guild halls!

Yeah.. unless the player is omg about the new class it’s rather useless for us pvp/wvw peeps out there. The elite skills might be ok, but i’ve yet to face someone with them… so not enough info on them.

Useless? It’s been out for a week, A WEEK! It’s one of the most entertaining classes I’ve played in awhile. IMO, most people playing it are probably doing PvE content before jumping into WvW. I mean it has so much WvW potential, and it’s currently roflstomping in PvP along with reapers. There are also two elites that get stomps as part of the move. It’s freaking awesome for WvW and PvP.

Just hope a dev looks this over and understands to not let the producers do this to the game! I’m sure they are the big threat with their money grabbing hands.

Do what to the game? You haven’t even tried the expac. You read some summary notes of what comes with the expansion and made a judgment. I hope the devs DON’T pay attention to you. You’re trying change something you have zero stock into. That’s on par with you walking into HP headquarters and complaining about their new printer line when you haven’t bought a printer in 10 years. You think they’ll give your opinion any weight?

Money grubbing hands? Are you kidding me? You bought the original game for $50 and had three years of constant updates, “mini-expansions” as you called them, balances, updates to old systems, etc FOR FREE! Now when they try and do the exact same thing again, you go nuts and call them money-grubbing? That’s ridiculous! GW2 has been designed in such an amazing way that you don’t NEED the cash shop to play the game. You can buy the initial game, and play for free, even getting cash shop items for in game currency; all with no subscription cost!

I have complete faith in arenanet to do this right, and from what I’ve seen, they have.

Actually this is the worst logic I’ve seen from you.

They were created as PART of the expansion. Anet didn’t want to make WvW or PvP screwed by not giving people this content for free, because it woudl literally divide the player base. Anet could have said, sorry you can’t play the new PvP map if you don’t buy the expansion. You can’t play the new WvW if you don’t buy the expansion. They absolutely had the right to do that. It’s an expansion.

Anet made a conscious decision to make those aspects of the expansion free. It doesn’t mean it’s not part of the expansion. It means you can access it without having to buy the expansion. It came with the expansion. The programming teams that programmed it are budgeted as part of the expansion.

Saying it’s not part is like saying Anet would have done those things and provided them free of charge without an expansion, and that we can’t say.

The Guild Wars 2 Expansion Was Pretty Hefty On The Expensive Side When It Comes To Expansions (Add-Ons) But It Is A Choice Which Some Players Made.

I Chose To Purchase The Expansion & Was Somewhat Disappointed With Some Aspects That May Have Been Added, Changed, Or Removed … So I Can’t Blame Anet On That One.

Sorry but your credability just went down the drain.

First you claim that you are a long time GW2 fan but then I understand that you havent played it for a while.
Then most of your claims on whats bad in the expansion is actually wrong and I can’t realy say that is a way of opinion becouse you are wrong.
You also don’t know the names of the new stuff like new Mysteries and Elite Skills… Well yea there are new elite skills but what you meant was Elite Specialization.

If you where a GW2 fan I would assume you would have read a little more about what the expansion has to offer.

Also why would Anet listen to someone who havent played the game for a while and havent tried the Expansion or better yet read enough about the expansion. I am not saying this to be mean but I am afraid that you are just making a fool out of yourself.

This thread is nothing more than an uneducated opinion. Has not purchased the expansion, but comments as if he has experienced the content hands on.

Pure speculation at best. Economy is fine, massive transformation due to loads of new items being introduced. Free accounts can’t be used unless they set up 2 step authentication on their mobile phones! They can’t just use a dummy E-mail and spam accounts so easily. They’re also incredibly restricted in what they can do. Once again, you’re trying to state things as fact, when they’re merely uneducated speculation.

I never get these types of threads.

I’ve been in your shoes dozens of times OP. A game goes in a direction I dislike or releases new content I’m not into. I just move on. Sure the expac has actual issues that need addressing but I don’t see any of that in your post.

Your just bullet-pointing personal preference issues.

The things you want in the core game are expac exclusives. If you want them buy it. You can’t expect Anet to offer major selling points such as Revenant as a gem store access class at release. That’s just laughable business practice if you think about it.

The PvP/PvE content imbalance may have slightly more merit but as a player since Prophecies this is really the way these type of games have to go now and Anet clicked to this with Nightfall and EotN. PvP is less reliant on new content when compared to PvE. That’s not opinion, it’s game mechanics.

What are the most popular maps in the PvP meta?

Outside that PvE players are your bread and butter in this genre now. I would imagine many games like this will give up on PvP all together at some stage as it has become a whole new genre unto itself with the advent of mobas and their popularity. PvP is slowly becoming a minority hindrance and mobas just seem to handle issues such as balance better…no PvE to worry about. That’s probably another thread.

Lastly the “why pay $50 when your giving away core!!Insult me much?” argument is just such a ridiculous complaint. You paid for 3 years access. You got it. Don’t even try to tell me you didn’t get your monies worth. This model will keep core populated. kthx and please put this complaint to bed.

Anyway I get your opinion but I don’t get why every player saying no thanks to the expac has to start a thread explaining why? Just go play something you enjoy, maybe check it out when the price drops? Either way all the best.

If your having adventurer problems I feel bad for you son, I dodged 99 arrows till my knee took one.

You say you enjoy WvW and PvP. At times some PvE. So I can conclude you have mainly done that for the past 3 years. In that time, there where hardly any changes in WvW (don’t know much about PvP), at least no where near the size of PvE content. The border maps where a lot smaller. Yet you didn’t have a problem with paying 50 bucks for it back then, to play WvW….

You say that the Revenant looks cool, and that you would have made one, would you have bought or where going to buy the expansion. When people point out, that the class is playable in WvW and PvP, then the class is “not your cup of tea”….

Al what you get from the expansion, if you only play WvW and PvP has been pointed out already. It seems to me, that you did not came here for people to give you reasons to buy it (or to even play the game for that matter). You already seem to have made up your mind about that.

In the end it comes down to this:
Don’t feel the expansion is worth it: don’t buy it.
If playing the core game isn’t fun: don’t play it (perhaps take a break to come back when you feel like it).

If you never heard that silence, it’s a godawfull sound…
