I’m sorry about this but after reading the new update discussion I just had to say something. But first a little about me…

I am 50+ years old and have an older PC using Windows XP or just barely good enough to support this game. I have no desire to play PvP at any point. I sometimes enter WvW due to the living story but it is not something my PC can handle or is it very enjoyable for me to run around in a Zerg. (I won’t be replacing my PC ever, I have close to $5000 dollars worth of gaming / office software some dating from the early 90’s)

I played Guild Wars 1 from almost the 1st day it was out and it makes my top 10 list of games ever! But for 7 years every patch made my warrior weaker. Ele’s and Mesmers complaining that if I finally catch them and hit them with my sword they die too easily. Yes, I really miss Jade Quarry, which was PvP but rather than just killing it was more of a game and was possible not to kill any players and still help out your team. (Keg Toss is not so bad, but few play with any teamwork) One thing that still upsets me to this day was the removing of the “easy ecto farm” area. (Put in on my b-day btw)

Needless to say I pre-ordered GW2 but it has been a disappointment to me. But hey I paid for it so I play. I have 10 characters at the moment, one of each class plus 2 extra warriors (which I used “past tense” for editing the wiki, a personal protest, I was one of the top 1% contributors) My main is a warrior and I took two months finishing the game and getting 100% map completion. (Getting the map and skills in GW1 took over a year, and I was proud to have those titles.)

First after much research I decided on the full set of pirate runes, and dealt with never leaving combat due to the parrot and never saying “Yarr”. Just waiting and hoping something cool would happen on “Talk like a Pirate Day”… Again much research an experimenting and I switched to long bow and a conditional build and have since crafted an ascended sword and bow, not to mention the 120 laurels on trinkets and 300 ecto’s on the back piece, and 1000’s of venom sacs to put malign infusions. So I’m sorry, just letting me change things for free again just doesn’t cut it. I could have bought every one of my toons a legendary for what I spent on materials.

Let me give just one example of something better to work on… knockdown. I carry both Dolyak Signet and Balanced Stance. You’d think I could walk in the Nightmare Tower without feeling like a pinball? Neither of these skills will remove a stun. And some-one please explain the Defense VIII Trait last stand? Shouldn’t this also block a knockdown once every 90 seconds?

The game has gone down hill since Scarlett invaded. You moved the WvW zergs into my PvE world destroying my frame rate and added tons of gold for the grinders, destrying the economy, and placing all the better high end mini’s and weapons firmly out of my reach. 95% of the new orange drops are account bound, my Necro would love a full set of Armageddon gear, I’ve found 45 mantels but were are the pants?

I think it may be time to re-discover Farmville…

You spent a lot of mats on stuff. Yep. Not seeing how that has anything to do with warriors.

Dolyak Stance, Balanced Stance and Last Stand don’t work properly? Uh. Pretty sure they do. Might have something to do specifically with the tower.

Why are you playing with a two-decade old machine? If you like it and want to keep it for nostalgia’s sake then go ahead and keep it, don’t throw it out, but if you want to run new software then you’re gonna need new hardware to match. :x

he makes a post complaining that his game plays poorly.

titles the post something along the lines of Anet hates warriors, when in fact most class balance complaints revolve around warriors because of their current power in all playmodes of the game (except, possibly, spvp). Thanks to highest base health, highest base armor, fantastic control, huge mobility, near snare immunity, fantastic burst or condition damage, and 400+hp/sec sustain without even needing investment of healing power.

Sorry guy but that was a lesson I learned 10 years ago when I was a teenager. If you want new games to play well you’re going to need to upgrade your computer or replace it at least once every other year. You aren’t the only one who finds this difficult to do, its a sentiment shared by most console gamers.

Do not quite understand what you mean. These skills are working properly, giving you stability (and working as stunbreak). Stability makes you immune to knockdown and stun. Stunbreak instantly interrupts any CC effects on you (including stun and knockdown). Last Stand gives automatic stability. In other words any CC flown in you will be ignored by you every 90 seconds and you will become immune to them for ~8+ sec

BTW, warrior – most “stable” class in the game. No one else can boast such access to stability boons.

My ranger runs 35-40sec of stability from RaO.
I built that way solely to kill the over-popular hammer warrior.

If you’re a warrior with problems running through ToN, you’re doing something wrong.

Every person has their favorite class and when your’s get nerfed you think it is unfair. As an older gamer, I would be considered a noob when it comes to all the many different set ups possible.

I use a sword and board and a long bow, other weapons may be better but I choose to use those. Every piece of my gear is set for conditional damage, and before every piece was set for magic find so I am stressing thinking I need to change gear yet again, only this time my gear cost things like laurels and vast amounts of materials therefore much more expensive.

The post said two thing I was mainly concerned with, the longbow is losing 15% of its damage, and most classes are getting the ability to remove conditional damage. The last one worries me since PvE foes soon follow suit making my set up again almost useless.

I wrote a long winded reply to clarify my position but I think Raven.9603 said it best, not that I was complaining about my PC’s game play, but that most complaints are about warriors being too overpowering NOW! And after seeing it for 7 years in GW1, the complaint will be heard and I soon expect to be hopeless against rangers, mesmers and everyone else. And in this game I only have maybe 40 skills over the 500 in GW1. I like to think of it like this…

Changing this balance because it is somehow unfair to the weaker guy doesn’t seem right to me, maybe make you faster due to less weight would be more fair.

The two skills do in fact work at times, good example would be Harpies in FotM but often they don’t work. I get held knocked down often losing the speed burst while running from foes and they wont save you at all in WvW. The trait may work however it only triggers after you are knocked down defeating it’s purpose. (The harpies always knock you off)

Yes I bought many PC’s in my life my first being a Commodore 64, but after 30+ years of replacing $1000’s of dollar worth of software to fill Bill Gates pockets I am done. Until they make a “Victim” title in PvP you won’t see me there. I have 100’s of MAME burns which are priceless to me, and it all works for me now. (my PC was bought in a lot of 47 identical systems for $12, I have lots of replacement parts) I don’t often play newer games, software companies now days shoot for graphics over content. I’m sad for all the younger gamers out there that can’t play games that have huge replay value because the titles are out of print and their systems aren’t backwards compatible.

Ok, this is long winded… but that’s why it’s a rant! Thanks to all who commented!!!! Soon this post will fade into obscurity.

Well, in terms of your PC problems, the only solution is for devs to make games that look worse graphically, which isn’t a realistic option. You can always turn everything to minimum.

Also, jsut sayin, you won’t get much support on the forums for saying Warriors aren’t OP. Even Anet thinks Warriors are OP. Heck, even Warriors think Warriors are OP.

Built my PC for around $650. Not the best rig in the world but runs GW2 on max settings smooth with about 40-60 FPS at all times.

Warriors are the best class right now – even after the hammer nerfs which are totally eligible.

Btw, your low end hardware has nothing to do with ANet’s balancing. I’m also running GW2 with a low end pc, built self for ~200 bucks, I have to play everything on low otherwise it’s stucking when an engi throws his stuff at me but I’m fine with that.

Though you really should upgrade your computer, XP is out of support next year. Running an unsupported OS is a great way to lose all that software you’ve got plus the contents of your bank account.

Yes, I realize you can build a great computer for that price, but was thinking maybe the OP didn’t want to put more cash into Bill’s pocket, which is why I suggested maybe getting a used computer – maybe one specifically for gaming. I mean really, there are many, many people (myself included) that upgrade PC’s every year or two. There are tons of used computers out there, and they will all run circles around what he’s got. He can even keep all his other programs and his ancient PC to run them on. If you love GW2 like I do, you get yourself the right equipment to play it on.

But it’s only 40 sec of 120 with boon duration. Warrior can easily do 60 of 120 withOUT boon duration (65 if round off). Having 5 stunbreaks in the meantime. If the goal is stability itself – you can even add 20 seconds from rampage. Rather cheaty eh?

It is still possible to insert some minor qualifications like: this is single skill so if boon will be removed you’re staying without them at an all CD time, this is elite skill with activation time and can be interrupted, while the warrior have many instant or even automatic skill, etc.

You all have missed the point. Every-one agrees that warriors are “OP” right now. They were considered that way too when GW1 first came out. But after 7 years of nerfing they became totally useless. I couldn’t even walk through Jade Quarry with out being instantly killed by a Mesmer or Ranger, I wont go into 66 monks… After 5 years you had to beg and plead with a group to take you on any harder adventure. And that was with 500 skills to choose from. If I had a top of the line, water cooled gaming monster this would not change. I see in the near future after game balancing Warriors will become the weakest class yet again, and the balancing for PvP will effect PvE. Or why my original title was “Why does ANET hate warriors?”

If they must balance the game why not make the weaker classes stronger or faster rather than always making the warrior weaker? The 15% reduction in long bow damage will effect me in PvE right now but they didn’t do that to the rangers long bow. How is this fair? And if they pass on the instant condition removals to NPC foes I will once again have wasted much time and game gold and this has me upset.

Too bad I’m a traditional archer in rl and my bows easily penetrate all kind of mail armour.

But as I already said, warriors faceroll bow rangers – even the distance of 1500 units is traveled in 3 seconds. If you say warriors are weak… sorry but this is the first time I’d have to say l2p. Ranger’s longbow has to be buffed because it’s kinda useless, rather than the warrior’s longbow.

I don’t think you have to worry about PvE enemies being given condition removal. ANet is not going to do a massive revamp on mob skills.

First thing I would like to say, is please stop using the GW2 forums to complain about GW1.

Most of your complaints are irrational and poorly explained. I cannot even se where you are trying to go, other then to complain about GW1 related issues, the fact that you have a crappy PC, and your irrational comparisons of things in this game to real life. Learn to separate fantasy game play from reality. They do not make game design based on the real world, the base game play on the game world they have created.

i feel you are being sincere Op. You said something very reasonable and wise, buying a new computer will not change anything about warrior class", i completely agree with you on that.

Rangers/archers were always Masters of bows; even in all mmo’s combined, you will NEVER see/find a warrior being efficient and being masters in bow; well… only in Guild Wars 2; which is ridiculous and an insult to warfare history.

How would you feel if Rangers/Archers wore heavy set armors? how would you feel if Rangers/Archers were better at weaponry than a warrior? how would you feel if Rangers/Archers were better at everything 2x than a warrior? would that be Justified?

Because of warriors unjust selfish cause, it is why the ranger class is treated like an outcast and continuously being punished by warriors elitist demand; to completely enslave and control them.

What’s a warrior?

Someone who wears armor? – So viking berserkers weren’t warriors?

Someone who’s paid to fight? – So hired archers were warriors?

You can’t say something about weaponary of historic “warriors” because it kinda describes everybody who was fighting – No matter what kind of weapons or armour were used.

As already said, it’s a game – don’t start with rl comparisons.

In the mmo world – yes – the ranger/archer should at least be equal to the warrior. But now the big difference: The warrior’s bow is a support weapon. If you try to only use the bow you won’t go anywhere. It’s the combination of the immobilize, arcing arrow and fire field for might for the hammer warrior or the fire field, bleed on #5 and fire fan for condition warriors. While ANet tries to make the rangers bow a main weapon they screw it up – as long as a ranged weapons lacks so much in dmg it can’t be used as a main weapon, only as a supportive weapon and unfortunately it works better on the warrior than on the ranger.

You have to upgrade, bro. It doesn’t matter how much you paid 20 years ago; I bought nice machines 20 years ago, too. But computers are not cars and they do not age well, and are never a permanent investment.

Guild Wars 1 was built for the tech of a decade ago and could even run on older machines, but GW2 is built for this decade (that said, running GW1 at max settings and max character detail in cities does require a good machine even nowadays). If you refuse to upgrade, that’s not ANet’s fault.
