Why does Anet assume only nordics have beer?
Still keeping with the random troll posts and imaginary scoreboard, I see.
The Queensdale monastery as well as a merchant in the Salma district sells alcohol.
Edit: at least one heart in Ascalon sells wine.
I didn’t bother to look further.
ANet may give it to you.

I find it funny when people get upset and defensive about things that aren’t even true. :P
There’s a brewery in the monastery in Queensdale. The brewery is run by a female human. One of the events is called “Drive back the centaurs before they steal the monastery’s ale (11)”, so it’s certainly beer/ale that is being brewed there.

And that’s just one example- I’m sure there are many more, including non-norn merchants selling beer.

There’s all kinds of heavy drinkers in this game, Gr8 B8 M8.

I used to think (build op, pls nerf) like you, but then I took a nerf to the knee.
There’s a pretty decently large tavern/bar/thing in the Charr home instance, and there’s another in the Grove.
The only race that I don’t think has a ‘bar’ in it’s city is Rata Sum, and well… I can’t really see Asura’ drinking alcohol quite like the other races probably do.

In game we see that the counterparts to vikings are stereotyped as loving beer. This is something they put a LOT of stress on, they refer to beer and ale all the time.
Other races however don’t have this at all.
I’m pretty sure that every single country in Europe has consumed alcohol since the dawn of time
Gonna go out on a limb here and say you don’t actually mean the dawn of time but rather the discovery of fermentation / alcohol.
Where in Europe is Tyria located again? Oh wait, it’s a fantasy world…

Your post got me thinking about if I had seen an Asura drink (excessively). It brought me to the “Down the Hatch” personal story instance for Order of Whispers.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Down_the_Hatch
One of the skills given for the drinking game are “Drink. Take a swig of Ale”- so we know it’s ale, once again. Each enemy you have to challenge is from a different race, including an Asura called Kiplr The Tippler.
So now we know it’s not just purely about brewing or selling ale/beer, we also know that members of non-norn races also drink beer excessively.

As a Scandinavian I must admit you are perfectly correct. It all boils down to the fact we brew the best Ale.
Except for the Norwegians, they know nothing of beer.
… and the Swedes. They get drunk too easily with their Systembolaget.

Ooze Booze.
Also, Charr are roman, they should be bathing in ale and beer.
I think that in game it’s made clear that drinking beer is more cliché of the Norn than any other race though, it’s made a lot more prominent for some strange reason.

No, wine would be more the drink of choice. Obviously, beer was known and consumed, but wine was THE drink to drink for drunky drunk fun.

I break it down into this:
Norn care about their legacy- what other people think about them.
In order for their deeds to be heard about, they must boast to as many norn as they can.
They boast at a moot- a great gathering of other norn.
Feasting and gathering go hand-in-hand, as does alcohol and feasting (which is a tradition not exclusive to nordics.)
Why ale/beer of all possible alcoholic beverages? I’m sure it’s down to the climate of Hoelbrak and the Shiverpeaks and the types of fermentable plants that grow in the region… and this is where comparisons to the real-world could be made.

Probably because its been said a drunk asura will be the cause of the Golem uprising.
So drunk science is banned.
Humans drank a ton of alcoholic beverages in Guild Wars. I seem to remember a title for it.
Oh. And this:
(edited by Ayrilana.1396)
The reason the Norn are the biggest and loudest drunks, other than being the largest major race, is that their entire society is about being a free spirit and doing what you like. The Charr get drunk with the best of them, but their strict military society doesn’t allow for mindless frivolity in that regard. Humans enjoy their drink, but half of them are too busy just trying to survive, while the other “smaller” half are too worried about appearances to get mindlessly drunk on a regular basis. Asura may enjoy drinking, possibly, but it’s more to drown out failure for an experiment gone wrong than to celebrate. The Sylvari would be the next most likely to experiment with booze on a whole unmoderated level, but generally speaking they’re supposed to be too noble for that, they have a higher purpose and that’s what they’re after.
The Norn have literally nothing better to do, especially if drinking a Dolyak’s weight in beer can be written in their legendary deeds. That and getting mindlessly drunk makes doing crazy, pointless, but ultimately awesome things with a high probability of death a lot easier to stomach.

Skritt drink too. A lot. They brew beer also and I’m pretty sure they aren’t related to Norns, nor are they Nordic.
ANet may give it to you.
Norn urinate and defecate near their drinking water supply. They drink beer because its safer than untreated water.

everyone knows a asura will drink u under the table
don’t underestimate the power of a midgets liver
Only because they’re shorter than the table! XD
Charr get whisky. Therefore, Charr are superior.

I personally just find it amazing that Norns could bolster about all this ale they drink all the time as if their proving something by consuming such a watery substance.
Try some Charr Whisky and see what happens.

Yes, a very good description of the original post in the thread.
There’s a huge assortment of human, norn, and charr merchants that sell ale, whiskey, beer, and wine.
I don’t recall many asura or sylvari that do but I’m sure there are.

I figured it out.The Real end game in GW2 is…. Drum roll…..
Forum Trolling
Mechanics:
*For every troll post you get 1 point.
*For every page past page 1 the thread goes, you get 1 point.
*For every person you can trick into believing your position you get 1 point.
*For every 5 points you level up. Ranging from fairy tale troll to LOTRs troll to finally legendary troll (there’s various levels in between)
*Being the first person to successfully derail the thread which leads to its closure gets you 1 point.
*If you get a dev response you win and instantly get legendary troll status.

Why is Arenanet trying to portray beer and drinking as something stereotypically nordic?
Forget about just Europe, people in the world all the way to Japan have had the same tradition, this is just silly.
Me: 3, Anet: 0
the only thing silly is you, in ancient times south of Europe grow grapes and made wine up to Italy and France, above this line is too cold for that so they make beer instead. Or better yet, south can make wine+beer, nord can make only beer :P
That’s the TL;DR version. Inb4, forget today improvements in agriculture and grapes strain that grow now in nordic areas
A Skritt is dumb. A group of Skritt are smart.

Noooope. I wouldn’t say that. Because being neokittens could potentially make them interesting, and we all know that Norn brag so much so we won’t know how boring they actually are.
