Why does it often feel so... randomness to me
^
people who set themself as a goal to “farm non-stop” for a legendary are not people who love the game, nor people who will stick with the game in the long run.
people who do a little bit of wvw, little bit of pvp, some alts in pve; are the players who enjoy the game the most.

this is idealistic and dogmatic thinking.
why do ppl play this game? one reason is progress. ppl always complaining about progress.. anet trys to makes it look like there is nearly no progress. no mmo is a game without progress.
even if u r goal is not an item, your still playing for the reason of progress…
a game without progress would mean u will always stay lvl 1 and there is no gear at all….
in every mmo u r farming non stop…. u r farming xp for progress… ppl look at this from a total wrong angle
there need to be viable ways for achieving your goal. if your goal is a legendary u think twice if u take the hard way that gives u a bad reward.
frac 20+ is fun, but if your goal is a legendary and u end up with 50s after 1,5 hours its kinda….
and how do u know whos enjoying the game most? this is just….
ppl stick to a game if they have goals to achiev… if there is no prgress at all ppl leave…. anet now introduced the new content blocking laurel system. it looks like there is nearly no progress, but its just slow anoying progress….
“in every MMO you farm nonstop”
That is exactly the reason why I don’t play every other MMO, I play this one. I hate farming, and grinding, and doing the same thing over and over. For me, it’s not about “progress” (that is just some psychological nonsense anyway – new pixels in an imaginary world is not “progressing” or “achieving” anything).
People who stick to the game are people who appreciate it for what it is. The people who need a carrot, will get bored once they’ve gotten it.
Seems to me that the OP is using the metagame concepts from previous MMOs for GW2. Basically, pounding square pegs in round holes. This can be extremely frustrating. For example, the gold econmy in GW2 is only one of several means to obtain BIS equipment. Karma, WvWvW badges, and dungeon tokens are alternatives, and can buy equipment that is not available in the gold economy. Reducing the differences for AC and CoF dungeon tokens to how much gold or ectos they are worth ignores the fact that the AC tokens can buy PVT (power/vitality/toughness) equipment while CoF tokens cannot. PVT equipment can also be purchased with WvWvW badges, but cannot not be purchased for gold.
Certain monsters drop a fine crafting material. Like the fireflies in kessex hills drops some kind of venom. So you can farm the materials if you want, but it’s much faster to buy it off the auction house.
Why don’t you try enjoying the game for what it’s supposed to be? Instead of narrowing your outlook to only focus on rewards, and thinking of everything else as a chore…
This game is not about farming, grinding, nor finding the most optimal zombie grinding map in the game and repetitively traversing the same path over and over just to clear endgame content as quickly as possible. This game is about exploration, adventure and discovery. Go out to other maps; run around and smell the virtual roses. Try to enjoy the actual game instead of trying to cut 90% of the fun to get to the final 10% as quickly as possible.
The Trading Post exists for a reason. There are other people who enjoy the element of randomness, and also other people who enjoy zombie grinding and farming. If you aren’t one of them, you aren’t forced to do it. Just sell the items you don’t need and buy the items you do.
There’s no good reason to rush for anything in this game.

I see that you did not take seriously my advice about punctuation. Oh well, your loss not mine.
That being out of the way, I disagree with almost everything you’ve posted, especially when you mention how -every- player needs “progression” and “goals”. Sorry but I’m a player and I would’ve been much happier without stupid ascended/laurels stuff.
