…for PvE? I mean it seems rather unfair that PvP’ers are rewarded with an 80 after only 5 minutes of getting to level 2, but PvE’ers have to either mull through boring as hell zones or crafting that is even more boring but faster just to be able to do dungeons and whatnot.

Can we please do something about crafting? I mean holy hell who thought if this? I am using the guide on gw2crafts.net and is it boring. Having to run back to the TP guy for the odd piece is time consuming and boring as well.

Problem is I love running dungeons so much it’s that all this leveling crap gets in the way, and seeing PvP people being able to enjoy their pastime without having to trudge through the leveling quagmire is disheartening. Leveling is redundant now, it seems like some formality, a right of passage holdover from MMOs of time’s past. What the hell is the point of leveling? Oh, to sell gems so I can do it faster, lol.

Again, I love GW2, best MMO out there – but please look at this crafting system. It is AWFUL.

So, GW2 introduced crafting exp to assist your leveling, as one of the many things in the game that give you exp, and your complaint is that you can’t level even faster?

PvP toons are leveled to 80 for the sake of balance.

If you don’t like leveling, why are you playing this kind of RPG? You could try Assassin Creed, it’s a nice action game and lets you do stuff without requiring you to level.

They should. The way you level or work for points after you hit 80 is awesome. But having to gring out levels to be able to dungeon and whatnot is just a needless chore. For GW2 the PvE concept is there, leveling for points for skills instead of raw levels, but having to get all the way yo 80 is boring, imho.

Crafting is boring, you gotta admit. It is not engaging in the least and it is is neigh useless once you level the professions. Why even have leveling if it is made mundane by crafting anyway, just to bore people, a right of passage, tradition, what? If I can go to gamestop and pay $45 for gem cards and sit there crafting for 6 hours why have leveling anyway? Why not just give everyone one level and make the leveling things like getting skill points?

Only three dungeons require you to be over 70, not counting Fractals. You can do the others just fine with lowbie toons.

If we were all 80 in PVE too from start the game would have been dead long time ago for good. There is no fun in equal pve for all. That’s why there are so few people in spvp. There are all the same there, difference is only in skill. In PVE the difference is almoust in everything, from gear to gold, players skill, builds…. If you want PVE,PVP at 80 all time go for WwW. People will never accept a game equal in pvp and pve! would be boring to hell. I don’t know why would you want equality in all aspects of the game. People are not equal, the game should not be equal for everybody. So for me is a no…better bring an expansion. Or faster leveling to 80 if people complain about leveling to 80.

So you can buy all your levels and gear with real money. That nullifies leveling right there. Okay so I sat there for 6 hours crafting what does that have to do with equality? Heck, it almost makes it sound like the game is pay to win (if you so choose).

Again, I like the game – it just seems as if leveling is redundant and worthless when the option to just pay rl money to gain levels through a boring crafting system exists. I see why it exists in theory, but with respect to the GW2 system it’s just a needless brick wall.

EDIT: I guess I mean why even have the crafting system in place for leveling? Just let me pay $45 and get 80. Crafting teaches you NOTHING about playing the actual game anyway.

It exists because some people enjoy leveling in an RPG game.

Leveling and gearing up is a big deal in RPG games on this side of the world.

Does your theory include these concepts?

No, not really, now you’re catching on. Also, it seems it doesn’t for Anet since you can pay real money to level and gear and a lot of people opt to do that meaning that some people, perhaps most (which is why XP boosting is ALWAYS a big thing, think food and whatnot), do not like leveling, but ike the MMO concept. For many leveling, in the traditional sense, is an outdated model and GW2 played around with that some with giving instant 80 to PvP’ers and allowing one to level by paying.

The only problem with paying with leveling in this game is having to go through that boring crafting system that is almost useless once leveled. Why even have the crafting system in place to those who decide to pay to level? It does not increase one’s technical skill. It’s just a 6-8 hour roadblock. Needless.

Comon dude, you know there is a difference between PvE and sPvP.

sPvP allows everyone to start on equal footing. It rewards players based on SKILL. That’s the whole pont of sPvP.

PvE allows people to progress through the game through time-invested. That’s why we have levels and other restrictions such as gear and skill ponts.

Otherwise, what is the point of an MMO when everything is handed to you? Why would you want to play this game when everything is available as soon as you log-in?

Tell me, then, why can that “experience” be nullified for the sum of ~$45 and 6 hours of crafting that adds virtually nothing to a player’s skillset with respect to PvE? Got $45 to buy gems to trade for gold, got 6 hours to burn, well there’s 80 – what you are saying applies to other MMOs perhaps, but not to this one.

Nothing is nullified by crafting. Paying for 80 is not offered as a leveling method. It’s there if you want to do it, but it’s not something you have to do, and not an intended way to level.

Because as Draknar stated above insta 80s do not have a clue on how to play their characters. Taking a character to level 80 takes very little time using a mix of exploration, doing hearts, doing the personal story and tossing in a bit of crafting but you learn how to play. I have 8 level 80s all leveled in that manner. Then again I am a bit older then most and do not belong to the current “entitlement” generation of gamers. Of all the games I have played and I have played many, this is one of the easiest games to level an alt in. Just leave the QQ behind, roll up your sleeves and get to work.

I’d also offer the couterargument that no-one can really begin to learn all of the ins and outs of a profession until it’s level 80 and all skills are unlocked.
You can’t properly make a full build without all trait points because not all skill line synergies will be available, your stats will be sub-optimal because you’ve not got max gear, chances are you won’t have your final runes and sigils because you don’t want to waste them on a non-80 character, etcetera, etcetera.

I’d say you’re better off really trying to learn a profession once it’s fully opened up to you.

I mean cmon OP, PvE is a different game than Pvp, they might share elements but have different mechanics, leveling IS the GAME, anyway I suppose you can pay some chinese kid to level your toon for around 20 bucks like you could in D3.

Maybe some console games are more up your alley? I hear you dont have to do much in those game, no leveling, or farming or anything, just load up the disc and mash some buttons, earn achievements and win in about 4 or 5 hours, that sounds like a perfect system for the short attention span crowd that gets bored quickly…

I don’t like levelling either; I like having everything unlocked and experimenting with builds. GW2 is a lot worse than GW1 in that respect.
Of course, you can level by crafting, and it’ll take less than a day, but it IS expensive.
For my last three characters, I used the speed crafting guide here: http://www.gw2crafts.net/

Unfortunately, GW2 at 80 is quite inflexible. In order to properly explore builds, you’ll need to spend a LOT of in game currencies of one kind or another investing in multiple armour sets.
I get the feeling ArenaNet want to make it expensive to change build so you’re more likely to spend money on gems to convert to gold.
Either that or they don’t want people playing more than one build per character.

A lot worse than GW1? Did you even play GW1 or do you just have a very bad memory? Do you need a reminder on how Elite skills were obtained or the fact that learning a skill cost gold in GW1? Do you know how much it suck to fight your way to the top of Snake Dance to get to Dreadnaught’s Drift for Feast of Corruption only to realize your forgot to bring Signet of Capture? How about zoning in and out of various zones in Ring of Fire to get the right boss to spawn or rerunning missions in the Crystal Desert? Are you really asking for more RNG in your skill acquisition?

Obtaining all skills for a particular profession would have cost around 100platinums or 10g in GW2 assuming you could get the others through quests. You still need the skill points too. GW2 skills only require skills points, you need approximately 118 to learn all of them, 175 if you want the racial skills as well. 202 skill points can be obtained through skill challenges. Both gold and skills points are obtained much faster in GW2.

As for experimenting, a lot of it can be done in Heart of the Mist. The GW1 equivalent would still require you to unlock all the skills first, either through PvP, Zhaishen training(not available anywhere near launch), obtain through PvE mentioned above or paying. There was no gold→gem exchange either.

Some things were better in GW1 but obtaining skills certainly wasn’t one of them.

I would never PuG again if people could be insta 80.

PvE is player versus environment. If you don’t enjoy leveling through killing the environment, GW2 probably isn’t for you. I understand wanting to get to the dungeons faster, but that’s what should drive your leveling.
I’ve leveled three characters purely through map completion, and 3 characters through a mix of map completion, dungeons, and crafting. Never have I bought gems and converted them to gold for craft leveling. I think you over estimate the amount of people willing to do that.
The majority of people I know who have leveled purely through crafting, did so with gold they had made off their 80s that they leveled through map completion and dungeons.
I also believe that, even though you don’t have all your skills and trait points, leveling through playing the game makes you better at your class. A few classes have mechanics that you really need to learn, like eles attunements and thieves blinds and evades. You only learn how to use those through experience. I’d rather learn those at level 6 in Queensdale than level 80 in Arah.

I (almost) can’t believe a topic like this actually exists. Playing the game is playing the game, no matter what you do, or where you go.
Instant level 80 is a kittened idea, if you seriously don’t like leveling to 80 on alts, then don’t. Use only one character your entire GW2 life and never level another alt again.
Getting to 80 super fast by crafting does not equal good players. Actually, it means the opposite. And, its quite obvious when players don’t have that much skill when running dungeons. Most classes require the skill learned while playing in PvE to be good at dungeons. (Crazy, how you gotta practice easier PvE to be good at harder PvE.)

Meredy Izumi – 80 Human Elementalist [Aeon]

You can do Fractals at level 1 and you’re adjusted up to 80.

But really, your focus is PvE and you’re complaining about having to play PvE to do more PvE?

I understand your gripe man, dont get me wrong, the grind gets to all of us eventually, after running the same content for the 9th time things will get stale, but this thing was designed that way, people bash this game about being too casual, imagine what would they say if you could actually level to 80 in minutes…

Crafting being as boring as it is, is still a great alternative to leveling without running around doing the same stuff over and over again.

I am the wonder, I am the storm.

why are you even playing guild wars 2 if you think the game is so boring? being 80 has little benefits over being a level 20 (for example) in this game

honestly the strongest part of this game is the open world pve because the zones are so much fun

Auger Claw (PvE/Spvp) – Thief
Notalkingplz (PvE/Spvp) – Guardian
Rough Trade (PvE)/Urok Ashpaw (Spvp) – Engineer

Yeah, like I said, I’ve been a little hyper since the balance patch (and since I can’t argue with ANet, I argue with everyone else. Healthy.). Honestly, you can buy a level 80 kit in the black lion trading company, it’s called gems to gold.

@hamsteak. I don’t want to take over this topic and make it mine. It wasn’t my request. I just jumped in to start to argue. But for me, there are aspects of the game that are fun, like WvW, and aspects of the games that are less fun (open world pve).

Anything I post is just the opinion of a very vocal minority of 1.

I vote for an “I Win”, “I Hate”, “Login” option when the game is launched.

This should adequately segregate the community in to the proper channels.

You haven’t played any other MMOs, have you?

I main Ele and Necro, though I have an alt of each profession at level 80.
How to Condi Reaper on a budget
Everything I say is only in reference to PvE and WvW.

Yeah I am. Look, I really like GW2, I really like the community too. This game is, for the most part, awesome. Oddly enough, however, leveling is the worst part of MMOs. It’s like GW2 almost made it with respect to throwing leveling out the window. For instance, you don’t have to level for PvP and for PvE you level past 80, but for skills and stuff. I like the idea of leveling for more skills, but for raw levels, to “cap” to open new dungeons and whatnot is annoying and a boring snooze-fest for many players. Now in GW2 you can pretty much buy level 80, but why gate that behind 6 hours of boring crafting, just give the kitten level cap.

I really do applaud Anet on this game, and although it may not seem like it here I am somewhat of a fanboy. But leveling is just ughhhh…. get back to the 90s and early 2000s.

And no I am not from some entitlement generation. I have been playing games more than most people here.
