Hi All,

I have a question. Why would somebody pay 6s+ on the TP for a level 80 green item that’s worth under 2s at the merchant? I have obviously missed a memo that explains this Should I be salvaging it for mats & luck myself? Or was the buyer expecting Rare for that price and the TP allows me to sell them Green? Other level 80 green stuff is not wanted on the TP. Could I get clarification on this please!

Is it a Light Armor item? If you salvage a level 80 light armor item, you can get Silk or Gossamer. Silk is used in crafting Ascended Armor.

Most greens (of all levels) have been around 5-6s on the TP ever since they introduced essences of luck from salvaging.

Green items have their value buoyed by the essences of luck they drop, as well as what they salvage into.

All light armor is going to be worth more since cloth is harder to farm than ore or logs (which have dedicated nodes for harvesting all over the maps).

You mean ore and leather? I don’t wear much wooden armor, but that’s just me.

You have to turn the logs into paper first!

I was thinking about weapons. But yeah, leather. Good old worthless mountains of leather.

Shhhh don’t call it worthless or next thing you know we’ll have another silk upon us. Or would that be silky leather? Pleather?
Either way it’s still cheaper to make ascended leather armor, let’s keep it that way.

EDIT: On topic, as others have said with essences of luck the price has risen and if the armor can be salvaged into silk it will be higher; especially if the piece can be salvaged into multiple silks such as the chest armor.

Others buy in mass green items for the essences of luck.

Ok, so it’s well worth it to salvage out these items as well. Then sell the mats on the TP for my profit. As I’ve read here, this applies to ‘Light’ armor only. Is there a desired kit to use? Or will the basic salvage kit do the job just fine? All other items ( under 1s ) I’ve been salvaging, have produced this result. The silk does sell well. Just didn’t take note or chart the salvage results to gauge possible profit long term from these items others are willing to pay for.

Crude salvage kits are actually best for this. Lower chance for salvaging gossamer (which sells for less than silk) and the lowest cost/salvage of any kit. Luck gains are unaffected.

If your Magic Find is low, salvage everything and sell the parts.

Once you get your Magic Find up a bit, you can do what I do:

Salvage all light armor.
Throw all other armor into the Mystic Forge.
If the result is light armor, salvage it, otherwise hang onto it and forge it again.
You will eventually get your heavy and medium armor pieces upgraded into Rare (yellow) armor which you can then salvage for the Glob of Ectoplasm.

We need a mystic forge recipe that converts leather into cloth already. Leather doesn’t sell above vendor value, and still silk is still obviously way over the top with it’s terrible design philosophy in ascended crafting.

15 leather + 1 silk + 5 incandescent dust + 5 philosopher stones = 5-12 silk

Don’t worry, it’s not possible to sell someone the wrong thing on the TP.

Buyers have to put an offer on a specific item, and they can see exactly what that item is before they put their bid in.

It’s certainly possible to put a bid on the wrong thing, but not to offer to buy, for example, a level 80 beserker coat, forget to specify the rarity and have someone sell you a green one when you wanted a rare.
