Why the fossilized insect drop nerf?
I hate to say it, but RNG is RNG.
I had the complete opposite luck that you had; I never found a single fossil for the entire time Dry Top was being released during Season 2, but in the past two weeks of roaming there I managed to find two fossils from the chests.
As a side comment, I found that I actually get more zephyrite keys from the piles of sand than bandit keys, but then again that is also RNG.
I doubt the rate was changed much. It has always been the case that some folks can go through 50 keys without a fossil. I got my first one within 20 chests and then didn’t get another one for ages.
There have been a couple posts on Reddit suggesting strategies (in Dry Top) for getting all 16. AFAIK, even those who do it via PvP have said it’s a slog to complete the collection.
My losing streak ended at around 66 chests. I can’t tell you how frustrated that was. My current losing streak is about 25 chests, still yet to find another fossil. I absolutely hate PVP as well so yeah, we’re in the same boat. I still need 8 fossils :/

The real problem with completing this set is the Geodes. Maybe I just suck at DT. I’ve mostly done the collection via PvP b/c guaranteed fossils and I’m a PvP and dungeon speed clearer since almost 3 yes now and find farming pve boring as kitten. However, I really missed out on a great opportunity for this collection back when there were actually maps getting to T6. Right now, you’re lucky to even get a T4 map, to get the recipes in the first place. At 425 Geodes each, for recipes, fossils have hardly been the frustrating part.
I’m currently working on my third weapon with 4 fossils in my bank and all of 250ish Geodes. :/
I never found a single fossilized insect, i got all of them from completing pvp track
This game is all about the pvp in case you haven’t figured that out yet. Seriously can farm the dungeoneer title and get any pve rewards faster in a pvp track than you could dream of in pve. In over 700 chest I got 3 insects, but the geodes for the recipes were the real problem. I should note, the pvp track loads you up with tons of geodes and sand through out the tracks as well as the insects.
Currently the only play time I do in gw2 right now is farm pvp tracks while browsing the forums and then go play other games. Once I finish this glorious armor track x 18 crap, there will be nothing left to farm in pvp rewards and I can be almost done with this game till HoT.

That’s ironic, since PvP players say it’s all about the PvE.
Yeah, but when we only see game balanced out as it affects pvp, we can all see the truth. Look in all the threads about recent changes and you won’t find many (if any) saying the balances are in place for pve.
I spent 3 days farming chests for the one ambrite weapon I wanted. Then once I got it, I found 5 more fossilized insects while using up my leftover lockpicks.

Um, no, I won’t see that. There are always people complaining about balance in PvP; there aren’t always people complaining about it in PvE. Further, the rewards in PvE have always been better than PvP; it’s only recently with the “daily rooms” that people have felt it’s faster to progress certain rewards via PvP — in effect, people are doing PvE in the PvP arena.
I’m so glad i finally finished this collection
