Hi dear adventure friends, i have two solid months playing this game, yet there is something that really bother me, and is, why there’s no cape skins for back items?
the capes will look really awesome, looking how good the animation is for clothes, the movement just amaze me -

i’m asking why not? i mean, capes are cool, every great mmorgp has it, and i was thinking that will be really cool having capes for the guilds, like a way to show your guild logo, and can be different for each race, to have a sense of originality with each different race.

So if someone can give me a straight answer, i will really appreciate it n.n

GW1 had guild capes, and it’s something they want to add at some point. There are apparently some physics difficulties, and it’s pretty low on the priority list though. Last I knew some of the devs were working on it in their spare time, but that was long, long ago and if there have been any status updates since then I’ve missed them.

I can’t think of a way to have items (weapons and backpacks) stowed on the back AND have capes. It had to be one or the other it seems.

There is a simple solution for that though: Disable the charr race selection for players (existing ones are turned into asura). Several classes such as mesmer or guardian would be far better off (as well as my eyes)

Players miss capes from day 1 but anet says it has clipping issues with charrs. I think 100 moving, animated capes just kmakes lag and anet dont want it. I think it should be a reward for a few wvw players.

If long capes are the problem, why not make a shoulder cape? in that way the clipping won’t be a problem i think? and the guild logo can be placed on that side with a background color of choice, in that way weapons may be above the cape without problem.

EXACTLY, its almost 3 years and we still don’t have capes… we got tonnes of other creepy crawlies though.

We want capes! I dont run any back item atm.
Its like arenanet dont know what to create or something.
I see people with bedside tables on there back, complete barbecue sets, people walking arround with bookcases on there back. I see people with kitchen equipment on there back. Im not even talking about the quaggan fluffy back items i mean.. whut!?!!??!?

On a holistic note, the closest thing i have to a cape are the heavy grasping dead plates which i used for a while on my warrior

Toggle mode for show backpieces or show capes.

You’d be better off searching for info from Anet or directly asking them about the capes rather than asking other players who don’t work on the game why there are no capes.

Failing that you can start some sort of petition if there isn’t one going, though I’d be surprised if there wasn’t one up by now.

Kind of sad how they cant put a creative mind to the whole thing being game designers and all…

And more seriously – apparently Anet did experiment with adding capes, and ran into some serious clipping issues. It might have been changed later, seeing as we can actually see capelike elements in some of new armor pieces and costumes. Perhaps, in time, they will add cape backpieces.

Personally i don’t see where the “cape frenzy” comes from (especially when people mention GW1 capes, as those were really ugly looking), but if someone likes them, adding them certainly wouldn’t hurt.

Then again, theres a ton of armor that already clips. A ton on charr.

Asuras long ears and a few weapons.

Physics and performance problems are the reasons.

they havn’t found a way to add “account unlocks” to the gem store yet.

And it looks like it’s made out of wires, and clips right through my shield.

At this point, I don’t even know anymore why everybody wants capes so badly…

We have backpacks. Why would we want to have both? The capes would cover the backpacks.

Besides in GW1, capes clipped with everything.

Yes, capes could clip everything. Unlike current helmets, backpacks, chest armor….
