Am I right thinking that we wil receive that new crowns both for daily/monthly and for some open-world activities?

Yes, Colin stated that you will get 1 Crown per Daily and 10 Crowns for a Monthly. This is planned to be introduced during the January update.

The blog also stated that Crowns will be offered for achievements down the track, possibly linked to “open world achievement tracks”, which suggests things like completing Jumping Puzzles, Dungeons and Mini-Dungeons, and maybe even Diving Goggles. However, this will be introduced after the January update.

I just want to clarify, the blog post never said anywhere that rewards for normal achievements outside of daily/monthly achievement will give tokens (crowns). We haven’t finalized what the rewards will be for the expanded achievement rewards, and it’s entirely possible they will have their own unique reward system.

I hope you reconsider that. Part of what makes the leveling experience fun was that everything you were doing (exploring areas, crafting, dungeons, events, etc) was aiding your ultimate goal of making it to 80. I was hoping this new achievement system would help bring some that back by allowing you to get achievement tokens by getting any type of achievement (with-in reason), thus encouraging you to do a wide array of activities instead of the same activity over and over again.

I have progressed some achievement paths extremely because that’s how I play the game. I will not tolerate having those reset or taken away at all. Go ahead and not let me claim rewards for those extreme paths completely but if I lose points I will quit. Sorry to say

I think their philosophy on this is perfect. It’s not the first time they’ve rolled back achievement points, anyway, and it’s not like most people noticed the first time they did anyway….

It’ll be interesting how you will do this, considering that there are some people who exploited a method to gain insane amount of achievement points at the cost of nothing (only time spent repeating same actions, not referring to the salvaging achievement).

Hope those people won’t gain immense amount of crowns due to said exploit.

1.) It’s not an exploit

2.) At the cost of nothing? It cost a ton of money to get those stacks of salvagable items. To get one point achievement you need 200. That costs a lot if you want 20,000 points.

The person posting made a point to say they weren’t referring to the salvaging exploit. And exploit is exactly what it is. It’s not a matter of opinion it fits the exact textbook definition of an exploit. You are taking advantage of a system beyond expectations to further your own personal gain….an exploit. I am not saying its unethical but regardless of the time or money spent that doesn’t change the nature what was done.

I think “unique events” achievement tracks for individual areas would be a great way to get players to play all areas of the game. Just a suggestion.

They haven’t done it since release (last time was right before release), and they aren’t planning to now.

The only textbook willing to define exploit uncategorically is Alice in Wonderland. I think Colin has the best perspective when he talks about finding more fun ways to earn crowns and achievement points instead of grinding them.

The initial version will only be for daily/monthly achievements (this will not be retroactively rewarded.) Later you’ll see a system in place that rewards more expanded achievements points which will retroactively reward all achievements already earned, yes.

However, there are some achievements which are infinitely repeatable currently. It is highly likely so this new system isn’t broken we’ll need to cap those and people who have made insane progress down one of those lines will lose some of their progress to get back to the cap. I wouldn’t recommend anyone go bonkers trying to progress an infinitely repeatable achievement category in anticipation of the release of this system, as you will likely lose some points/progress if you take it to an extreme number.

We’re still working out the details on the system, so that’s about as far into detail as I can go currently.

This guy who posted his screenshoot with 10k achievement points earned by salvaging… he won’t be very happy xD

Yeah we’ll need to figure out something for folks who do fall into that category, I just want to make sure to get out ahead of expectations so people don’t all feel they should now go rush off and have to do this (or other infinitely repeatable achievements.) We don’t want people to feel they need to play the game that way and have it be the best way to be rewarded.

The salvage track effects the economy so there is that as well.
Is the issue more with there being only a few infinite tracks? I would use gold and/or karma to unlock additional tiers for the title tracks I like or just happen to always be filling such as the slayer tracks. I would be able to self-apply rewarding rewards as my fun things to do overlapped with the dailies and monthlies.

Forgot to ask if we get crowns from PvP daily and monthly (meaning 80/month not 40). I hope not, I don’t want to be forced into doing pvp just to get my ascended and precursor at 2x speed.

That also reminds me that infinite tier achievements and daily’s shouldn’t even give the same type of achievement pts.

When you have done every single “special” (enough to have an achievement) thing in the game (multiple times) and you have ~5000 pts and the guy next to you only has 1 character and didn’t do 70% of the content even once and is rocking 6000 pts from daily pvp achievement (that you don’t do) and because he didn’t take a 3 week vacation and he also salvaged every item instead of vendoring them because he doesn’t need any money you know something is “wrong” with the system. Not because he has more than you but because the number means nothing if you can get it by doing nothing special…a few hundred times.

Sure having a 2nd type of achievement pts to keep track of and feel a really vague statistical sort of personal progression from everything you do repeatedly (daily, monthly, nr of events, salvage grind) for yourself is/would be great IF IT WERE SEPARATE and not taking away from the other achieved things.

Current version: “Yay I feel good because I have xxxx pts and it shows I have done lots of special things…oh wait…it could also mean I didn’t do anything important a few hundred times”.

Whatever, it’s just a number (or 2 if they would separate them) anyway.

Just increase loot drop chance; tell us where exactly precursors drop and leave us farming in peace. From what I understand of Colin’s answer your 4000+ achievement points won’t be wasted. Instead you will be issued a sum of currency based on the number of achievement points you have.

It looks like the nagging question still unanswered is how the tokens will be stored. I assume they will be objects rather than simple numbers on a bar, so as to make them account wide. Given that, I add my vote to having them (and indeed all dungeon tokens as well) be collectible in a specialized bank slot.

I am pleased that the achievement points will buy cool stuff! Even if I could swear that achievements were originally announced as just for fun and not to be used as currency because no one should feel “forced” to do them. Maybe that was in my previous game? Since I happen to like achieving, without feeling any need to achieve every possible thing, this new stuff sounds great to me.

Of course, as they are not yet sure if the tokens will apply to non-daily/monthly achievements, one must be careful not to spend everything the first moment possible. Not only might something more pricey become available once you have the retroactive tokens, more rewards might be introduced for purchase and turn out to be what you want far more than what you bought at the start.

You do not earn crowns for the daily or monthly PvP achievement, and the items you can earn for spending crowns are not intended for purely PvP players. We don’t want to make PvP players feel like they need to do PvE achievements to maximize their daily rewards, or PvE players feel like they need to do PvP achievements to maximize their daily rewards.

We’ll be evaluating progression and rewards in PvP with a separate system that takes players from all sides into account without making them feel like they have to play one part of the game they may not be interested in.

So are you adding a new reward system like this for Pvp in Jan? Just a quick suggestion, in this discussion post hehe, but if you guys are not giving crowns to PvP achievements based on pvp players not wanting to do pve, can you simply make pvp and pve daily/monthly achievements both give crowns, but only recieve crowns for the first day/monthly completed that day/month respectively?

I’d appreciate this. Having four level 80s and two World Completions, it feels pretty lame knowing that if I had waiting until this had come along I would have been far more rewarded.

Think you’re missing the point of what was said.

Only the daily and monthly quests will be a part of this reward system when it comes out. AFTER they implement the next stages those ones will be retroactive and will encompass existing achievements. If you are the sort of person that likes to do achievements to have the achievement, you’re going to be rewarded for anything they choose to include in the system when it comes.

Good to hear about the variety in the daily/monthly. I don’t do dungeons either and it’s been some time since I have been able to finish a monthly. I recently decided to pay attention to the slayer acheivements and have completed quite a few of them just because. Even better news is that this will be rewarded in the future.
If they really want to fill out the lower level maps they could add acheivements/tiers that apply to each of the maps or DE’s within.

We all know the way to achieve anything above 7k points atm is through salvaging since the transmuting been deducted off everyone’s accounts.

Very interesting, lots of good news around here.

I have one thing though I’m slightly concerned about. You mentioned capping the infinitely repeating achievements. Now, you said you weren’t going to cap the achievement itself (which I hugely appreciate, I love being able to keep track of how many items I’ve salvaged, at least roughly), which means you are referring to a cap on the laurel/reward from it.

Do you intend/are you considering a hard cap on it? Like only X completions of Agent of Entropy (love the name btw) will be rewarded ever?
What I’d suggest, if I may, is to have a monthly cap on it, like only five completions of agent of entropy per month will gain the reward/point/whathaveyou.
The reason I’d suggest having the reward from it be repeatable is this; it kind of makes sense, given other repeat achievements also give repeat rewards (but given the way it repeats while not being constrained to any timespan means it does need some form of limiter on it). Reward for five completions seems like a decent cut-off, I’m a pretty heavy salvager and get Agent of Entropy about 3 times per month or so (and laugh my butt off every time it pops up, did I mention I love the name?), but I’m sure I’m not among the heaviest salvagers (you guys probably have a pretty good idea how many people salvage how many items now that I think about it), that might sound like I just want my own effort rewarded but I’m just using myself as a guesstimate [since my own usage is really the only one I’m familiar with ].

Having a monthly cap like that would continue to reward people just playing while preventing people from running amok with a pile of salvage kits and dumping reward items onto the market. Would be pretty awesome, though if the cap ends up really low I’d likely start trying to save salvage items for next month once I hit the cap :P (efficiency!)

Will achievements ever be selectable to be displayed on the hud? Select 4 of the 6 and have them displayed say on the top right with all the other information.

This may have already been covered, but will I have to do all the jumping puzzle achievements again? (Please say no! Some are fun to repeat but other ones tested my already-tenuous grip on sanity to the limit…)

There is someone on my contact list with 6997 achievement points at the moment. I refused to play the infinite salvage loop game, so I’m glad his points will be reduced. My wish is that all points awarded from this loop are eradicated. We calculated the other day that he has easily salvaged over 200,000 items to get to that point.

Up until this point achievement points had no value, they were nothing more than “look at how big my number is” fodder (unless I missed an announcement at some point a long time ago saying there would be rewards attached?), so for some people it wasn’t about gaining an advantage over other people but just trying to get the number as big as possible.
Sheesh, the assumptions of nefarious intent are mind boggling
All the points from Agent of Entropy eradicated? Why?
Why not cap it at a couple times a month?
Or, are you like the one guy who told me he didn’t want anyone to get any rewards for salvaging because he doesn’t salvage and doesn’t want people getting rewards he’s (choosing) not going to get? (by selling the stuff instead of salvaging it)
/facepalm

I really don’t see why it should be excluded. Sure it needs a cap to prevent abuse, why removed completely?

The new currency earned from daily and monthly category completion is an account wide currency that is visible in your inventory, next to your karma. No inventory space required!

This sounds good, but, have you considered that players will take advantage of this and farm across all alts to get something for their main?

Few other things on the agenda

1) Conversion ratio between AP and Laurels – any info on that? Perhaps 50-200 AP per 1 Laurel?
2) Will the conversion occur automatically and remove the AP or will we have something similar to the gold-gem mechanic (i.e. buy/exchange)?
3) Are there many players with a large number of AP that might be affected? What is your perceived threshold for this?

Cheers,

CJ said that Achievement Points will most likely be translated into a different kind of currency down the track, unrelated to Laurels. As part of the design process, they are looking at how to award this currency in a fair manner for people who may have completed infinite achievements (e.g. Agent of Entropy) multiple times, but without giving them an unfair advantage over people who haven’t (since it raises the spectre of people exploiting this by buying up thousands of cheap items on the TP now and just salvaging them all).

I know i don’t have all the info here but this does seem drip fed, we go out into the world to do the dailies and receive a currency after we complete the daily..

What then, with out open world loot what exactly is keeping players playing in open world with the current loot restrictions in place and DR..

As i said i haven’t got all the information but i’m not really seeing how this will fix the current open world issues?

Could we get a more detailed plan of what fixes open world will be getting on top of another currency?

Later you’ll see a system in place that rewards more expanded achievements points which will retroactively reward all achievements already earned, yes.

We haven’t finalized what the rewards will be for the expanded achievement rewards, and it’s entirely possible they will have their own unique reward system.

Just to be clear: Really all achievments? Or only the “bigger ones”?

And you talked about a possibility of an own unique reward system.
Actually that would be the only way that i can see this work. Since getting laurels for every achievment, would give players way too many laurels at once..meaning that if there is no other currency, than the prices of the laurel vendor would have to be increased significantly.

Another currency however would avoid that. The currency would have to be worth less than a laurel and convertable into laurels.
For example if 100 of this currency would be worth 1 laurel. Than bigger achievments like 100% map could give several laurels, and small stuff like “agent of enthropy” could give 5-10 of the new currency.

Anyway, I’m really looking forward to the changes with the achievment systems you have planned. I’d really like to see weekly achievments too, or daily and monthly WvW achievments, that reward you with badges and blueprints. Or that Maxed Slayer achievments continue counting (though i guess that would make some HUD problems if the number gets too high)
