We know that with HoT we will get new areas to explore (the whole of Maguuma Jungles, as i understood it), but i’m wondering if the Devs will also use the expansion as a chance to update the old maps in order to reflect the current state the continent of Tyria is in. In other words: Will we finally get to see Orr with no undead swarming everywhere, or it will still be the same old place full of Risen and pact troops “ready to fight Zhaitan”? Will Lion’s Arch still be in ruins, or there will be at least some visible signs of an ongoing reconstruction? What do you think? I think it would be nice if the world map changes according to the events of the story, instead of having areas basically frozen in a specific timeline where nothing ever changes.

(I’m not english nor american, so i apologize in advance for any mistake i’ve made in this post. ^^’)

It’s unlikely Orr will be updated. New players starting the story need to see Orr as it is now.

I suspect updates to the world will not come from the expansion but will come from other updates. We apparently have some time before it comes out.

If they clear out Orr, how about the new people that haven’t done the personal story yet? Are they to go to an Orr without risen?

Erm..personal instances?

There has never been a good war, or a bad peace.

Why not? They have done that with the aftermath of the first season of the living story. New players that starts GW2 after Scarlett death, like me, will see (for example) Lion’s Arch destroyed, the ruins of the Tower of Nightmares in Kessex Hills, ecc. It’s not like they get to see those places as they were before “because they are new to the game”. I don’t see why the original campaign should be any different. It’s been over two years since Zhaitan’s death, so Orr should be cleansed from the risen by now. New players would still see it corrupted and infested in the story instances, but the normal PvE maps of Orr shouldn’t be frozen in time as if nothing happened in the past two years. It kinda ruins immersion if you ask me.

Why change perfectly good maps, when they could add new ones?

I’d be mad if Orr was without risen. Orr is one of my favorite places, as Arah is my favorite dungeon. I don’t want everything in the game all happy sunshine and daisies. To me that’d be really boring.

This is why.

This is also why. Let’s not change all the maps and stay in Kryta forever.

And we all know how much that season sucked…

Though that would be an interesting twist (in a Twilight Zone sort of way) if everything in the game literally turned all happy sunshine and daisies.

Nope.

Big budget games like WoW can do that (see how they changed the original zones through one of their expansions, and the changes were for everyone, regardless if they had bought the expansion or not).

ArenaNet is far from having all those resources.

This.
Like for Kessex hills, Iron Marches, Divinity’s Reach and LA for example. Arenanet never had the resources to change the maps for people with an expansion so they did it for free for everyone instead. Free = no money

They really need to get a phasing system done. There’s no reason I can see why we can’t just have multiple versions of a given map based on where your toon is in the story. It would be functionally identical to pre-searing ascalon in GW1. It would create much better immersion and I can’t see it being that huge of a resource issue.

I would like to see the little donation robots in LA instead of at our festivals/holidays. Then when the community decides they want a section of LA rebuilt they can donate to the particular robot in that location.

When the gold threshold is reached the reconstruction begins and the map is updated. It doesn’t even have to be gold but supplies like a particular type of wood that is in over abundance. Maybe they could even change the supply type when the market is flooded with another material.
I learned my lesson donating to the little thieves in the past but maybe with them located in the city we can control how far they run with the gold this time.
