I know this is brought up many times, but anet does change there minds from time to time.

Ive deleted many characters, I love my characters, they all are Cosplay

If I cant cosplay with it I delete it. I made 1 of each class at the start of the game…

Not able to (at the time) to cosplay I have deleted many of these characters, Ive deleted level 80’s Day 1 characters and even 100% map completion characters.

One of my characters I deleted was a 3 day beta 100% world complete full bag slots 500 crafting character… why? B.c it was sylvari thief and I wanted a Human thief.

I could have made a “2nd” thief… but I had 2 of almost every class and 2 of a couple already. I was tired of having multi classes… So i deleted them all if they couldnt be how I wanted…

If I had a race change I wouldnt have done this. it really makes me sad actually… very sad… but Cosplay and sticking to my account makes me even happier.

As new armors , weapon skins, hair and costumes come out or at the start of the game we had no idea what skins was out there.

There is no way to tell that we will like out characters in the future.

It was on my free will that I deleted it. I understand. But you need to understand you cant see into the future and know if you want or dont want a character.

And it is possible, hard… but possible.

Ah… no offense, but that’s what character slots are for…
Building up a lv80 is instant now because of all the lv20 scroll and tome of knowledge. (In fact, I got like 14 of those scrolls by now, and around 480 tomes of knowledge.
Btw, before you call me hardcore, I only play PVP very infrequently, around 0.5~1 hr pvp everyday. You can easily get the same amount)

If you want to try another race on different class, just buy a character slot and make a new character.

I never said I didnt have extras, i actually have 13-14 (cant remember) slots, I was tried of seeing 2-3 thieves, 2 guards, 2-3 warriors etc……

Its a choice I made…… I just want to know if anet would come back and revisit this option.

Seriously doubt it as they would have to spend a good deal of resources working out and debugging how a race change would actually work in-game with different level characters. These resources could be used for LOTS of other things that either need addressing or are beneficial to a larger player audience.

Besides, as mentioned above the already existing solution is to buy more character slots (and that solution is economically beneficial for Anet). Considering this, I seriously doubt a race change feature is beyond the “yes, we know some players have asked for it.”, stages.

All that has been answered before.

Armor – makes you change it or changed to that races equal
Skills – Changes them
Personal Story – Remove it and need to be redone.

If they did its going to be a tonic that put you with a very stander model of the race much like the other combat tonics in the game. So no new ability no armor just simply look like a stander version of that race.

I hope we see Race change down the road, I know a few friends that would come back if they could race change their Asura, and personally I only play a main, I wont make another character, or even buy another character slot, I will race change my main though just to look at something different…probably multiple times during GW2 lifecycle if the option was there.

It would be such a money maker for Anet.

By the community sure but not by a dev who actually knows how the code for the game engine works.

There is only 1 way how this will ever happen:

Race Change = Complete Character Reset.

Means:

• Your Character gets resetted to Level 1
• Loses all the Progression in Personal Story and has to completely start over again.
• Equipment gets Character Level Locked so that you can use your stuff first again, if you are back to the Level your Race Change’d Character was at that moment
• Just Race Change, No Name Change, No Gender Change, No Hairstyle/Color Change
• Is not Free, has to be done with a Gemstore Item, that will cost most likely then 600-800 Gems
• Is Time Gated, can be done only once per Month per Account

Under these conditions I see it as only way, how this will ever find into the Game, otherwise, you’ll most likely never see this, regardless how many times you will ask for it.

Because as other people say..therefore exist Character Slots mainly, an account can have up to 64 Characters, so plenty of space to make whatever you want all.
There is no Race Change normally needed with the option of beign able to have so many Characters on an account possible.

I know of no other MMO out there, than GW2 which allows to have so many Characters on an Account!!

The true Main Reason, why people want to have simply Race Change is otherwise only just to play the Game with that race, with that they get easiest through to the end, just to change then to the race they actually want, but dislike their personal story stuff without losing any progression, wantign to keep everything ect…

But thats not how it works. You have to sacrifice your progress, if you want to change your Race permanently, because the chosen race is heavily tied with your personal story system and when you want to permanently change it, that means also you permanently want to change your personal story and thats currently simply impossible.
We can#t even replay yet the personal Story without Race Changes, and you basically demand this with a Race Change!!!

For what reason? Just because you are too lazy to delete your characters and make a new one?? (Which would be the same like sacrificign the progress and starting new?)

That people can’t see into the future, is just a very lame excuse…
if you don’t like a race,/character, that you created, you surely don’t play it first all the story through and up to level 80 with max equip first, just to realize then, that you suddenly don’t like this race anymore to the point, that you want to desperately change it since like 2 years now!!

So the banal motives why people want Race Change Feature are very clearand from a logical point I personally see absolutely no reason, why ANet should waste alot of time, money and ressources on such an obsolete feature, like Race Change, when you can have up to 64 Characters on an Account, when there exist Name Change Features , Gender Changes and Style Changes, which aren’t linked to the personal story and just cosmetical things compared to the race, that defines your personal story from begin to its end.

There are a heck load of other things, which have a far more higher priority on ANet’s “To Do-List”, than to implement something useless, like a Race Change Feature in my opinion.

Things like:

- Trait System Fix
- Personal Story Fix
- NPE Fixes (giving the game a proper Tutorial inside the Character Creation Instance and not this forced upon dumbing down of the Starter Areas)
- Giving the Game finally Jeweler and Chef 500
- Implementing finally missing content, like Bar Brawls, Polymok and Target Shooting
- Doing more for the Game Persormance (DX11, 64bit Client, official Implemention of Combat Mod/Sweet FX ect, massive UI Improvements)

just to name a few things that would really add something meaning/useful to the game

I’d love to racechange my charr to races that don’t have clipping issues with 90% of armor in the game and wonky running animation if you don’t have permanent swiftness..

But deleting and remaking, and having to grind up 500 of 2 professions again and having to deal with the GARBAGE new trait system screw that.

I’ve gotten the impression from what they’ve previously said that it’s not currently possible. That the races and professions are hard set at character creation and they don’t have the tools to go in and change them. They also have specifically said they can’t make changes to your personal story if you choose the wrong path and want to switch (which ties in with parts of the character being unchangeable).

It’s not just a cosmetic change. Races are firmly tied into their personal story, (such as racial sympathy choice which changes the NPCs in your home instance), cultural armor, home instance, racial skills, etc. A race change would mean they would either have to go in and change all that (and they may not be able to) or have races with other races’ specialties, such as an Asura with the Charr racial skills.

Thanks for asking. To change the race in the Gem store will not be an option in Guild Wars 2.

Yikes, can’t imagine deleting a fully unlocked level 80. I’d rather spend all of the gold to make a character like that and buy a new character slot versus actually deleting a decked out character. Like you said, never know what the future may hold and maybe you’ll like that character again someday.

Also, with racial changing you have to consider the titles as well. This would basically allow someone to collect all cultural armor on 1 toon, all story lines, etc. I don’t think that really goes with the spirit of what Anet is trying to maintain here.

I agree with Orpheal, a lot would have to be reset. Almost like your character never existed in the first place, when changing races.

Also, I rather look towards the future instead of a 2year old post from a Anet employee we haven’t heard from in over a year. Things change (ascended, gliders, npe, etc..) so can Anet stance if they choose, and find it profitable.

People really think, that anything can/will change, if there iss just money to be made. >.>

What if there are complications, that simply can’t be solved with just making money??

Don’t you think that CC Eva had some good reasons why she said as a representative employee of ANet something like that.
Don’t you find it questionable, why there was after that posting never ever anything official from somebody like Colin who said something that could tell us, that what CC Eva has written there has ever any chance to be changed in mind, if this, that or those conditions are done first???

The fact, that a CC has written down in this forum a strong decision, that stands up until now officially for the whole stance of Anet towards this topic and which hasn’t been revised yet officially by someone from ANet who stands higher in the decision making, than CC Eva, like Colin as best example as Game Director is imo a sign in itself.
Anet as a whole has already closed imo this topic permanently and has no intentions on changing their minds…

Or how many years do you think are required to suddenly change a mind over something useless like Race Changes?
Something so useless, that they let their CC’s make announcements over it, if something will exist in GW2, or not? And that way of CC Evas’s tone from her answer sounds for me very definitive, that there won’t be ever a change in mind, that this decision has already been set in stone.

If this would be anything like an important feature, then Anet would make their big names announce it, that this will get implemented and we would have most likely gotten it already with like the last Feature Pack either or maybe instead also as part of a normal Living Story Patch, or as part of some general new Gemstore Additions

I am in your corner OP as far as to say that all games need to take race role play more seriously. The current problem with lag slows developers who would be excited at an endless supply of possibilities. The best can do atm is finding game lists with good customization and play them all. It sounds like maybe you have near exhausted GW2’s limits? That’s a compliment not a criticism. I can only offer what I do and that is to join a lot of games and make a lot of chars while I wait someday for tech to improve and the ultimate char creation game to come along (with genetics – my plug). I could say a lot more on this subject but that would require me talking about other games and I don’t want an account ban for some kind of infringement.
