Hey. Merry Wintersmisery!

You want to play snowball mayhem and have some fun? Nope. If you will decide to participate you will be supplemented to the team, which is losing (10 times i was forwarded to the map with score ~400-50 and i was in loosing team). Because you shouldn’t play from the start – this is for weaklings.

Hey, you want to jump and get gifts? Good idea! BUT NOPE. ALL WANT TO FARM DRINKS AND SELL THEM OR DRINK. So there will be “the realm is full”. Have fun!

Oh, toypocalypse! You want to build your base with friends and defend dolyaks! Because this festival is about friendship, generosity, family…NOPE! Random people, which will leave, because event strarted BEFORE there were 5 men, therefore 1 dolyak died. MERRY WINTERSMISERY!

Bells…Yeah. Love them. One of the two things that isn’t f***ed up in this festival (another is Infinarium). Can play them all day long…Why?

Oh..why do i want to play different activities? And, maybe, with friends? I love to play with them and i want shoulders. And for this shoulders i need to consume…10000 drinks. Oh, not that big number, yeah? Like, 31 day -> 10000 drinks -> 323 a day -> ~350 presents a day -> in bells 18 present in 7 minutes -> 2,5 hours of bells. JESUS F***ING CHRIST. Me head aches, my stomach rumbles… You want some happy festival? Nope. Here, in GW2, we only have some MISERY for you.

Happy Feats of Winter Ve…MISERY!

Well, yeah. It’s slightly better outside of regular playing hours if you get the chance. But yeah, peak time you might as well sit in map chat typing out Star Wars spoilers.

I’m loving this Wintersday, probably because I’m only doing the things I like and everything thing else can go hang. Shoulders! Buh-humbug I would be bored with them in a week. Achievement points? Last year taught me well played and played doing stuff I couldn’t care less about if I tried only to find out I had to do Bell Choir, which I just don’t get it, so again Buh-humbug. This year I’m giving myself a present a Festival where I pick and chose what I’m doing and doing just because it’s fun.

Glad for you And i want shoulders, because i love to look and cute animations on my character. I really love them and i really want them. I don’t grind that much – i can say that in this mmo i’m casual. Still, that shoulders are soooo adorable, that i can’t resist. I think, my charr would be glad to have this item Still, 10k…And i have 9k to go…

The Winters Presence shoulders are roughly the same costs as other premium skins have in the past:

  • Queen Bee, the Silverwastes only drop ran roughly 900g to 1600g (pre-HoT)
  • Poly-luminescent refractors, from Halloween ToT, ran roughly 700-1000g (black) or 300-800g (green, orange) until Halloween 2015 (when the drop rate apparently increased).

Winter’s Presence is crafted/forged and account bound and the others are random drops. However, it’s still a premium skin and I think it’s odd that people think that it shouldn’t have a premium cost to go with it.

“Premium skins” should not be something only available for a limited time during a festival.

A festival should give some free stuff for all to enjoy. Like how a party bag has a funny hat to wear.

Those who want ‘prestige’ have all day long to do raids and other stuff.

If everything ends up becoming boring grinds to get a few things that will be replaced by the next thing that is another boring grind, people will end up fed up of that nonsense.

You need a balance between content that engages players to keep playing, and content that shackles players and forces them to play way more hours that anyone should if they ever want to get some shinies.

I guess my beef with the “premium” Holiday skins is, that I don’t think there should be premium items during the holidays. The game is filled with hard to get items already. I’m not seeing the need to add holiday items to the list.

When people are playing during a holiday, most don’t want to grind long hours, spend tons of their gold trying to reach a goal or to make the choice between grinding in game or spending time with family. They want to log on and have a few lighthearted hours and get loot. The game dangling a wanted item out of easy reach isn’t what most people want at this time of year. After all, it’s what’s most people lives are like.

If they are going to make things hard to get then that’s fine. But not during the holidays. Make it out of holidays and part of doing regular game content. For holidays, make them part of the holiday like the yearly hats were in Guild Wars 1.

Be careful what you ask for

This.

I support the idea of premium or prestige skins in general, but holiday events should be more laid back in my opinion.

That Anet is purposefully attempting to encourage players to spend less time with their families during this already stressful time of the year is a bit weird to me.

Yap, i understand. Still, if this was really hard or interesting thing i would understand (crafting legendary with collection is interesting, yet hard, and rewarding). But, well, 10000 drinks is…mmm…like Lineage 2 grindfest. It is really like “wtf, i should do same things for 3 hours a day just because it is premium skin?”. My charr is chef and i wouldn’t mind if i could craft those drinks during a year, but i won’t have such a luxury. I should grind boxes. And after that, i should open 100 boxes and consume this drinks. Oh, so merry festival.

They are trying to be all things to all people and failing on a lot of fronts for sure. Making the holiday shoulders easy to acquire flies in the face of their design. Them making something that you can earn easily makes you not pay attention to the items on the cash shop. They put this stuff in the game to earn and it makes the cash shop stuff look more attractive. You say to yourself, “Gee, I really want those shoulders for the snow effect but that will take dozens if not hundreds of hours for me. That costume on the gem shop on the other hand is just a credit card purchase away.”

Conversely, I don’t think they would be able to support having enough content for most people’s tastes if it was a sub only game. The content in HoT is really good, but there ain’t much of it that is lasting. They are in a bad spot right now. I am really looking forward to what they try and do to right the ship in the coming year or if they don’t have to because they have enough people that buy frequently enough on their cash shop that they can ignore the people that have stuck by this franchise for years.

Then you realize that gw2 casuals are the laziest animals around. Before precursors were too expensive/high risk gamble now its too much of a grind, they didnt like living story because they blew past the content too fast now they complain about the grind taking too long. Now its they are “locked” out of a skin because they don’t have the time for it and by golly they will spend 5+ hours on the gw2 forums defending that statement. They want the skin but at the same time they say it’s not worth the gold.

PS. Han solo dies

I don’t like the reward philosophy. I don’t think it’s appropriate for a holiday reward, as detailed in my post above. Make premium non holiday rewards a grind. Lock them behind hard, exclusive content. That’s fine with me. Maybe I’ll get them maybe I won’t. But I disagree with the philosophy of putting holiday rewards behind gold, supply, activity walls to exclude most of the people who log on to do fun light hearted holiday content and then find themselves grinding for hours, days, weeks, months, to reach it and emptying their wallets into the pockets of those who don’t try. I disagree with the philosophy that hard core grind to get a cosmetic is something that should be part of the holidays.

really what is hard? having a boss with a obnoxious amount of hit points or giving it one shot ability ( both weve had)? Should it be a map that requires complete map participation like triple threat pre-hot launch where if you weren’t in the organized map gg.

hard is suppose to drive you to the brink of giving up, as well as if this is your first mmo- mmos are all about grinds.

Use the gold you’ve been grinding prior to wintersday release to buy the needed alcohol, if your excuse is “I am not going to go to that extent for a skin” then why bother worrying about it?

Giving him mechanics, that would be interesting to interact with? Paths or items to interact?

Yeah…Ofc. If you love to grind – it is. There some other…things to do in mmorpgs. Like, roleplay, exploration, challenges, activities… Sometimes even story (not in GW2 case, thou).

just a FYI the shoulder skin is permanent. you do not need the 10k drinks by the end of wintersday. as long as you have everything else done, the 10k drink achievement is not going away. Of course the only tangible way to get the drinks outside of wintersday is the TP, it will still be there all year and continue next year as well.

You can EASILY make 100g a day casually and by casually i mean afking most of the day because why not – I mean farming cuz I don’t play the market either. Efficiency is for chumps. You are more than welcome to disagree but i’ve made twilight from scratch in less than a month while throwing 100g into my portable toilet box each day until the pre was pulled( no brag).

Yup I like putting forth effort to obtain what others can’t or unwilling to achieve – makes the juice all the bit sweeter. majority of rewards now are already “log in to unlock” – and still they claim nothing is geared towards them >_>. Why bother playing if were to be unlocked by entering in your acct password.

Before precursors were too expensive/high risk gamble now its too much of a grind,

They were too expensive and are too much of a grind (and still almost as expensive, because Anet values their precious pixel economy more than the happiness of the actual players).

However, it’s still a premium skin and I think it’s odd that people think that it shouldn’t have a premium cost to go with it.

tl;dr how dare those filthy poors think special festival items should be reasonably attainable.

Shweet deal so you are going to sell me any future precursor or high value item to me for 1 copper. im pretty pumped about that especially since its favoring player happiness over the pixel economy.

The thing is, there are lots of things for Wintersday; we just keep dismissing them as not significant. The wintersday skins are now only two tickets each, the toy skins drop frequently, the mini HoHotron is inexpensive, as are some of the other minis. And yeah, there’s one premium skin.

So no one has to grind to get shinies; we just don’t seem to want the shinies that don’t require griding, perhaps they aren’t shiny if we can can get them with ease.

If you’re going to present people with a set of achievements centered around a time-limited event, odds are they’re going to be upset when some part of those achievements requires either an obscene amount of time or in-game currency to complete during the event.

It is the THRILL of sending money in the cash shop that we are supposed to be enjoying.

Do content for reward? Get serious. How can you not see that? It’s perfectly clear to many of us. The rewards are for spending/converting, not for content. Cant even get into some of the content.
