I tried out a couple of world bosses with my ranger:
Did FE, never landed a single crit
Did Inquest Mark Golem II, was only able to crit using LB skill 5. All other attacks had 0% crit chance.

If your gonna make the bosses prone to being critically hit, then all the “hit boxes” should allow critical damage from any skill. It seems like hitting a specific area with AoE attacks are the only way to crit world bosses now. Had I been on my ele, I probably would have seen more crit strikes as I primarily use staff.

The main thing I noticed is that the fights take nearly twice as long in a average map. (Random join, no taxi or guild group organizing it) Some many not mind the extra time spent, but others will find it more boring.

I’m really curious to see how Teq is, because that’s the world boss I primarily care about if I do world boss trains.

Not crazy about this change, but it’s like the old bosses . . . but about five minutes longer to take down in some cases. Heard some nightmare stories about Teq though.

Then again simply doubling the HP of bosses is not a good solution. They need to deal way more damage.

Condi builds can hit the legs for full damage so how is this supposed to be balanced?

Other than that, saying what I said in the other threads – I like the experiments that ArenaNet are doing.

Makes the game feel a bit more fun.

And no, having a crit spot on his butt or w/e doesn’t count as a “fix”.
Behe is still easy, no mistake in that, but this is not about how easy the boss is but about the patch notes, either remove the “can be critted” or fix it.

To be fair, that amount of effort is commensurate to the reward one receives >99% of the time.

People respond to incentives and do more when there is a reward for it. The defense stages of Tequatl demonstrate this. Just buffing bosses to be more tedious for the same reward will only degrade the population of players who will bother to do them.

Also would like po point out, that even with Berserker (mixed asc + 5 exotic armor pieces) equipment at level 80, banner of discipline and Fury I don’t double my dmg. I deal 93% more dmg.
And would like to say that again I have berserker with most ascended gear.

Next one is scaling… precision and fury scale badly with levels. On Godslost Swamp, with these same buffs I would (if spot that is critable was accesible) do only 46% more dmg.

Not to mention only fraction of people will go for “crit spot” I called spot on Shaterer and maybe 10 people came to me for free crits…

I understand why they did what they did – doubling world boss HP instead of nerfing conditions doesn’t screw with the other formats.

A lot of players in game are saying world bosses are now too grindy (debatable but whatever).

The question is, how do you prevent players from killing the world bosses too quickly, while not making them feel grindy, and not screw with the other formats (as would be the case with a condition nerf)?

I think the answer is simple but unpopular. Maintain the original world boss HP’s but significantly increase the damage that world bosses do.

1. When players need to dodge or heal you are effectively dropping their DPS.
2. Grind = monotony, which is EXACTLY what Anet is reinforcing when you’re just doubling the time players stand there and spam 1 without fear of dying.
3. The fact that it is only buffing world bosses also means, again, that they are not screwing with PvP/WvW balance simultaneously.

Some HP buff to some of the bosses was likely necessary, but Anet went really overboard with it, increasing HP also where it wasn’t necessary (and by much more than necessary, or wise).

Tried all world boss except for TT. Every boss is just tankier, not harder. Teq is almost unkillable and SB is just downright annoying. You know you could make world bosses harder to kill without giving then double the health, like giving them a phase that would remove the condition stacks.

Anet, if you want a hidden crit boxes, don’t stick with the tab / click targeting system. Hidden crit boxes are for cross hair combat systems.

I think additional changes need to be made:

Boss kill speed was generally fine before the condi changes. (I say generally because I think jormag regularly took too long and Fire Ele was always too fast.) After the condi changes, everything was too fast.

I agree with increasing the length of boss fights back to where they were before condi while also making both condi and non-condi builds viable. Adding hp and allowing crits is a good idea, but it hasn’t been executed properly yet.

For starters, crits should be accessible from anywhere. Condi is accessible from anywhere, so we should have a level playing field for doing damage that is build-neutral. As others have said, getting into melee with certain bosses (jormag, golem) is a bad idea.

Secondly, one of the main issues with boss fights is that they can feel grindy. A grind is mindlessly doing something repeatedly for an extended period of time. I doubt anyone really enjoyed shatterer or golem before condi patch because you just stood in one place and autoattacked until the boss was dead. Any patch which increases mindless autoattack isn’t fun. We need bosses that require thought to fight. Not a lot of thought, but something more than stand in one spot and autoattack. I love the teq fight because you have to be mentally engaged, and I think teq is better done than any other world boss because of it.

tl;dr:
Extend crits to everywhere and give the bosses an ability to nuke stationary 11111ers. Reduce hp as needed so that kill times come back down to where they were before condi.

Fantastic update. Triple wurm may have failed a decap the first try but went flawless the 2nd attempt a half an hour after patch drop.

Lol at the hand fed playerbase reaction XD. It brings back memories when taco was first updated- everyone was crying out impossible. If every time you fall scrapping your knee claiming impossible, please do the rest a favor and not show up at taco. That was those who wish to accomplish the " impossible" can do so without 80% of the map being leechers.

I honestly don’t think they will change any of the existing boss mechanics, but if they made boss hits do double the damage they do now, players would be dodging / blinking / leaping all over the place. Let’s see them argue ‘grindy’ then

problem is you still jsut get green stuff most of the time.
yes 90% of teq goers want to waste 45 inutes wait time to get to a teq map, spend then 30 minutes failing on teq only to wait 3-4 hours to try another time if their isnt a guild around that start teq again. for a tequatle spoon.

high risk high reward is needed.
if the risk is high but the reward remains low, then the boss is “borked”.

Why would i was almsot 2 hours for greens and junk items when I can kill 20 easy mobs in 10 minutes for the same?

an MMO should provide for everyone and any way of palying the game to get to desired goal at the same time.

maybe they don´t even want the it for stats and jsut want to use the skins, which you can´t buy from others btw, and then transmorph their current exotic gear.

looking at the top ss on this page. the eles skills are all on cooldown because they got hit by the wave or tentacle ( sure it could of been a one time deal or everytime deal) ~ jump over the wave or get away from the tentacle.

if you read map chat turrets were going down – where was the turret defense?

tacos scale count was at 16- nearly at 20 !! each scale stack reduces damage but at 20 it become invulnerable

scepter/dagger can be bursty but there are other ways that you can be bursty and provide better support for others – while your free to choose w/e playstyle you want its a group effort.

If the update is reasonable, then yes players should adjust and ask themselves if bosses are worth doing anymore. I have a feeling bosses like shadow behemoth will be ignored for much the same reason bosses like dredge commissar and fire shaman are, they are inconvenient and unrewarding.

BUT

This thread was to gauge the state of things, and the state of things is that the mechanics Anet wanted to introduce to balance the buff made to bosses are not working. Crits are failing to be significant due to poor zone scaling and selective limbs being critable. In this way the adjustment expected by the community must be considered mute until the bosses are once again functioning properly.

Until then, suffer on PvE heroes. Keep updating with what ya see, and let’s get what needs to be adjusted fixed.

Anet is the king of lazy solution. Sure there’s issue with conditional damage in some pve contents, but they can’t possibly use a one-size-fit-all “solution” without understanding the EXTEND of the issue. Issues like these can’t be fixed with solution involves only integer (i.e. X*2). Now stop having meetings about gemstore and spend at least 5 minutes about real issues, anet.

“Lemme think for 6 days…. Got it! Just double World bosses HP!”

Can’t they see the effect this has?
Why double? Why exactly 2x? Why not 1.4694839x? Or why not 2.409239x?
Couldn’t you just re-adjust condi dmg (not stacks, that’s perfectly fine), add condi resistance or see (test) how the boss HP should be scaled (also for small/big pools of players)?

Well then People are saying " too hard" " just oneshotting everything" “too gimmicky” and more.

But srsly, I don’t think that the Boss HP was only doubled, considering how fast they melted before the HP Buff and how long they take now, I would say that they accidently increased the HP more than what Anet intended to.
Also Crits aren’t really working as intended and I can imagine that the World Bosses also have some Scaling Issues. Wouldn’t be the first time that a Scaling Bug can result in some ridiculous amounts of HP ( Hello TT )

So, just attempted Tequatl. PUG map, and we totally flunked on it. It took way too long (9+ minutes?) for our map to start his first burn phase, and after that we only got him down to half health before the burn phase ended. There was only about 3 minutes on the clock, so the map basically conceded.

Although, our map was having a hell of a time organizing. North defense / turret operators were refusing to check in, based on how the event started with people calling for more operators, but was perfectly fine once it was underway. (I actually left south boats team at the party leader’s suggestion to go north. When I got there, 3 operators, competent defense, I only saw turrets get destroyed twice.)

A major problem in my opinion is that the only crittable location is invisible / impossible to find. During the burn phase there was a good mob beneath Teq’s neck, but it was spread out enough that I’d bet a quarter of the people weren’t consistently finding the hitbox.

Overall, I still think the new HP total is plausible, but the restriction to melee / AoE attacks on a largely invisible hitbox if you want crits is throwing off a lot of players.

Mixing insults with your post is like pooping in a salad.

I’m not sure if they didn’t mess up condis on Teq as well, as i am yet to see any condi stack above 25. But the real reason why they are not melting as fast as just after feature patch is because they fixed the bug with unlimited buff cap. Bosses melted not because of condi damage (which it did help, of course), but because everyone for the whole duration of the fight was running with perma quickness and 25 stacks of might. After they did fix that, Teq kill times increased to somewhere around 1-2 mins faster than before the feature patch.

I am not prone to posting on forums, but I feel I should chime in. Tequatl is one of those bosses where you can sometimes-maybe get a good group if you just drop in, but for the most part, you need to get there early to get a good map, thus you wait for approximately 45 mins for a spawn.

I waited (with several of my guildies) my appropriate 45 minutes, and was in a fabulous organized group. We were very optimistic. We gave it everything we had – which was substantial. We had one minute left and we were down to 1-3% — and failed.

ANet has always been great to listen to us in the past (which is why we love them) so I hope they listen now. Please give us back our successes at the World Bosses. We don’t mind it being a challenge — in fact we welcome it — but impossible after about an hour of game play (including wait time) is really disappointing. I used to do Teq everyday, I haven’t been back since. I should also note I tried Teq at least three other times over the weekend, each one also failed. None of my guildies reported a success in their other attempts either.

A dev said that in the next patch, or a future patch, all target-able areas on all world bosses will be crittable, as it was a bug that they’re fixing.
