I would the second it came out… and then I’d spend the next 6 months complaining that either dwarves, great axes, player housing, or guild halls weren’t in the game yet. Actually I’m pretty much done with warrior because its so useless in WvW, so I probably wouldn’t even complain about great axes anymore.

What they need to do is improve their existing assets. Creating more zones and higher level caps would be foolish. That’s a steep investment that will occupy the player base for a very short amount of time.

There needs to be content that is challenging and rewarding.

Or else just keep making easy content that takes months to complete. yawn

Why? Because I like the game and see a lot of potential. I’m here for the long haul, even if I can’t spend 6 hours a day playing like I could in GW1.

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

There are other promising games being (Been) released shortly, so many of us may already be gone by the time any paid for GW2 expansion is released.

This was once a “promising game” too. Some of us have patience, because we know MMO development takes years. Not days, not weeks, not months.

The rest of you can jump ship and jump ship and jump ship till the soles of your feet hurt, but what you’ll end up with in any new MMO today is more of what you have here, but less polished, because it’ll be new and it will take years for them to get it working.

An established MMO is going to have some advantage over a new one after the shine wears off. And if you think that other MMOs will launch with a less “greedy” cash shop, well…off you go then. Will you have the grace to return if you’re wrong?

Take a look at Neverwinter, which people seemed do enjoy. Due to a duplication exploit, they had to close the servers completely today and roll back the game 7 hours. Half the forum is ready to leave. And yes, I know the game is in “beta”. except that they aren’t supposed to be wiping accounts again and the cash shop is already open and doing business. Just like PW.

All new games will have the same problems. Every single one of them. Anyone who’d been to enough MMO launches knows that.

Just an observation.

Nobody want’s to wait YEARS just for them to fix simple bugs in the game, we waited YEARS for it to be released.

And Neverwinter seem to have got their companions right when we can even get the pet fixed after months.

When something as good or better comes along people will be off.

And yes all f2p/b2p games will steer you towards tghe cash shop, GW2 being no different than Neverever.

So I’d hope to return to Cantha, and Elona, etc…

Before I was one of those people who would buy an Expanision in a heartbeat but I’m starting to second guess myself. There still remain plenty of issues with the base game that seem to consitently go unnoticed in favor of content that feels kind of shallow. Sure I would love to explore new lands but first they need to do more bug fixing, balancing, and optimization for the game before I would consider it.

That and the game doens’t really have the “magic” that GW1 had that made me fall in love with it and play over 2000 hours over five years or so. I’m not sure if GW2 has that same retaining power for me even with expansions. Guess it’s a wait and see thing for me.

I’ll pay every last penny in my account for future expansions, but so far, this game still isn’t worth the £50 I payed for. So no.

Dungeons are designed horribly – why bother going in with a mix of classes when you can faceroll with 4 warriors and a mesmer? 90% of the mobs are skipped, which is ridiculous. High level zone mobs keep getting buffed so it’s becoming a pain rather than enjoyment doing the events/bosses. Ridiculous amount of RNG (even in the cash shop, this is 100% unacceptable).

I don’t know if it’s NCsoft or Anet who controls the content/cash shop, but if they don’t get their act together, they’re easily going to become another EA. Who currently receive 0 payment from me.

Sort it out NC/Anet. Or you’re going to completely throw 7 glorious years of guild wars down the drain.

Yes, in a heart beat.

Even though there are several problems I have with the game, I can put them aside and enjoy the fun I have with it. The only complaint I really have about the game has to do with dynamic events. Other then that, i would love to take on a new storyline, hopefully one even long and more fulfilling then what we have been tasked with in GW2 so far. Also the constant devaluing of gold for gems, really blows. I don’t have a lot of excess money, it took me months to save up the spare cash to buy GW2 so I relay a lot on buying gems with gold, and I don’t make that much when I’m out hunting, though I admit I am bad at farming.

This isn’t just due to bad dungeon design. It’s a direct result of no trinity, and a conscious decision to make avoidance the only real survival tactic (absorption is, for any high level content, out of the question). The final result of this, essentially, characters build for damage, players play for defense (Berserker builds, where the build max’s out character DPS while player skill in dodging is purely responsible for surviving the encounter). It’s splits the game play in such a way that high DPS is all that really matters when building a character since survival isn’t dependant on build, but player reactions. There is not only no need to sacrifice DPS for tank/healer/support builds, but the game is designed in such a way that doing so it detrimental.

I don’t think this thread will be deleted because the feedback is very good for Arenanet. I would buy an expansion if it’s content designed with the culmination of lessons they have learned from Guild Wars 2 vanilla. They’ve been testing a lot of things and I want to see what works (monthly content, finding ways to get player engagement, recent great boss fights, etc). I don’t want to see what doesn’t work (RNG, losing customer trust, damage sponges, etc).

I will definitely lean more towards buying it if it’s a return to Cantha. I will be less likely to get it if I see that it could divide our community (like theBattlefield 3 Premium expansion. I bought it, read the forums, saw it seperated community and caused empty servers, returned it for GW2 gems)

As long as they stop with the using RNG as a limiting mechanism. Well logically they should. If they release a new expansion, that means money in the pocket for NCsoft which means they will get off Anet’s back. Then maybe anet can focus on making proper content instead of coming up with semi crappy content(i say semi crappy cos the end event dungeon in F&F was good) with stuff that you would pay for, yet it has a very low chance on dropping. Which if you realize has been happening for F&F and Secret of Southsun.

Also I would like to see a 8 or 10 man raids brought into the game.

It’s a PWe game the exploits, the gold sellers and the botters are gonna have ball. And the greed of the cash shop, particularly the conversions is already being talked about as one of the greediest games to come out. Just wait until it’s out for six months.

Many games have dupers, what happened in Neverwinter is not new, i do commend PW for what they did though to stop it asap..sure it’ll kitten off players now but they’ll be better for it later.
By the way Pay to win doesn’t bother me because i never pvp so unless Neverwinter is completely PvP i might check it especially after this announcement..

Neverwinter isn’t in beta. It’s called a stealth release. It’s not a beta for two reasons.

1. They’re not wiping the characters again, what you earn now you keep after “launch”.
2. They’re already selling gems for real money.

The game is open for business. When Guild Wars 2 ran it’s betas they gave you gems to test the gem shop, and on the final beta, you could be gems, but they gave htem back to you on launch.

Other games, in the past, have had this stealth launch too. But if the game is already using the launch business plan and people are already playing the game and buying stuff, it’s a stealth launch, not a true beta.

Still saves me heartache of roll backs because players love to cheat, at least they did something about it.. there are rich players in GW2 because they got away with similar exploits that annoys me more..which is part reason why i wouldn’t buy an expansion too..

To answer the OP, it would depend on when the expansion were to be released and if there were anything more interesting in endgame. If it were to come out tomorrow and follow a similar model as the current one, then nope. I wouldn’t buy it. Other than WvWvW, there really isn’t anything in GW2 for me.

But I have Rift to play right now, and Wildstar this winter (hopefully). Think I’ll be good for awhile.

Yeah, I’d say give TES Online a try first. With that said, no I would not buy an expansion. I’ve bought this game and bought some gems so I could change the look of my ranger. I won’t spend any more on this game. This is now just a pass time until TES Online comes out and, further down the road, WoD Online.

I understand they want to make money but the problem here is that they fed out empty promises. Truth is there isn’t anything different. A new shell to be sure but beneath the surface it’s all the exact same once you break it down.

Problem is, they need to break this need to give every player the exact same experience. Unless they give this up, and design a game engine that can self generate (changed the land scape, generate new quests and npcs, etc.) to produce a game that actually changes based upon player impact at both a local and global scale whether it is one player killing a particular important npc or a massive army taking over a land, the game engine itself must be able to react with a permanent and persistent change to the game world. Perhaps a little less having everything scripted and a little more sandbox.

Perhaps I’m just setting myself up for disappointment but like I said. Looking forward to WoD Online by CCP. They are good at sand box games. Give the players the tools to make the game from within it and let’em go.

My GW2 folder is actually called C:\Guild Wars 1.9 because experience taught me MMOs are usually in beta until the first expansion pack (at least, some for at least 2 more expansions). Until the first expansion, I will consider GW2 a beta product, like all other MMOs I played at launch.

My GW2 folder is actually called C:\Guild Wars 1.9 because experience taught me MMOs are usually in beta until the first expansion pack (at least, some for at least 2 more expansions). Until the first expansion, I will consider GW2 a beta product, like all other MMOs I played at launch.

Disagree. The game might not be perfect. But it is not “underdone”, as u mean.

With that, the game does not put a lot of things promised, it is still close to the ideal. There does not appear serious bugs mechanics, destroying some aspect of the game. (Played Warhammer online ever?).

In addition most of the complaints some sort of “and where the raids?” and “where hardcore?”, “and where a bunch of awards for this or that”, " there is too muchgrind" “there is too little grind”, “my class is not like I wanted to”, “why thou class is stronger is PvP than mine” and stuff like that. Most of complainers did not pass any serious dungeon or high fractals or, even, participated in the qualitative WvW raids. So it’s all complain just for the sake of complaining. Will be always complain. The game can not meet all the wishes of all the players. It is simply not possible.

Plus, I want to note that this game is very different in structure from the others. Everyone was waiting for it and rejoiced. And now there is a lot of whining on why is there no trivial components from other projects. Like raids, and directed healing, ever-increasing level of equipment, etc. Didn’t u think that it’s the have to abandon the template format and enjoy a new way?

Probably not because I’ll be playing The Elder Scrolls Online by the time Anet releases a GW2 expansion.

Do not waste your time. Did you see the “leaked” videos? Another clone with new elements, which are also cloned. And look … 2013 and still can not make normal tissue physics. Disgraceful. Infamous triangular robes…. Bwe… Character animation, by the way… eeem… does not shine, as in other series lineup. Sadly, but it’s another attempt to suck money out of the brand, as it is fashionable in recent years.

Suck the money out of the brand…So kinda like Anet did with the Guild Wars franchise? It goes both ways. I don’t like being lied to about a product either.

Nope. not unless that xpac is called something like:

  • Guild Wars 2: The Death of Diminishing Returns
  • Guild Wars 2: Drop Rates Rising
  • Guild Wars 2: CoF2 With 13 new 5-minute paths that are just as profitable as CoF1p1
  • Guild Wars 2: Precursor exploiters actually banned so the economy isn’t kitten.
  • Guild Wars 2: Zommoros gets beat the kitten up and take his lunch money.
Finally I recalled the stopgap solution of a great princess who was told that the
peasants had no bread and who responded: “Let them eat brioche.”

And you weren’t lied to. Unless you can prove intent to deceive, its’ not a lie. You can’t prove it. You may SUSPECT you were lied to, but that doesn’t mean you were. Lie implies intent. MMOs change all the time. You didn’t say you were lied to about energy potions.

So the changes you like are fine, but the changes you don’t like are lies. I smell hypocrisy.

Well here u are completely wrong.
First: there is only one product with GW franchise – is GW1, and it was the same innovative MMO at it’s time like second now. The second part – a brand new product, devoid of clichés.
The second goesn’t “gets by” success or the ideas of the first part.
Secondly: it is impossible to argue that the game was made for the idea and the idea of ??it has and will continue to be, gathering clones created by these ideas by other developers..

Sucking money out of the brand – is selling a massive amount of copies, recoup the costs of product development, which often proves to be quite commonplace and of poor quality and does not implement all the promises. Huge sale mainly provided by success and/or popularity of the PREVIOUS parts or the success of any other products with this franchise. (Remembering StarWars and EA.)

The already clear that Anet is not involved in this. But Bethesda could.

You never played GW1 at launch did you? Atrocious drop rates and DR were the name of the game back then.

If I can’t play Guild Wars 2 at work, I won’t work in Guild Wars 2 either.

It’s not underdone. It’s far and beyond the buggy state of almost every other MMO at the 7 month mark, including WoW.

With the whole ascended debacle and now the announcement of WvWvW specific infusions I’d have to say no. The game is headed in a way which I cannot support and as such I’m not willing to sink more money into it. The original vision which I paid to see realized has been abandoned and I with it.
