I think you have more important things to worry about, like the remaining Elder Dragons, and all the unbound magic flying around.

Asura characters: Zerina | Myndee | Rissa | Jaxxi | Feyyt | Bekka | Sixx | Akee | Tylee | Nuumy

There really are not enough ascalonians left to even populate ascalon.

They assimilated into kryta, died to charr invasion, died to foefire or got cornered into ebonhawk and that population is probably mostly krytan descended for the sake of healthy genetic diversity.

You’d undoubtedly get more of the responses you’re hoping for if you posted this in the Lore forum.

From a game perspective, if after the dragons, Anet takes us into Ascalon to purge the ghosts and form a Lion’s Arch-type free city, then sure, I’d be happy to go along for that ride.

Otherwise, humans vs. charr… don’t think that will happen.

I with Greener, the charr already reclaimed it. If humans want more land, they can settle the empty parts of Kryta or spread south from Lions Arch. Most of those lands are wilderness.

Before the charr, humans ruled Ascalon.
But before that, the charr ruled.
And before that, it was the Grawl.
And before them, it was the Forgotten, right?
And of course, before them all it was the Elder Dragons. Not the forefathers of the current Elder Dragons, THESE Elder Dragons.

For any human to claim rightful rule over Ascalon is laughable at best, and an act of utter idiocy. It is insulting to the lives lost in the Foefire to forget that it was humans that killed the most humans in that war. No single charr comes close to the body count of Adelbern, who not only slaughtered his own people, but doomed their very spirits to an endless war.

If you wish to honor old Ascalon, turn your gaze away in shame and learn from that mistake. Do not charge forward to repeat it.

Though, let’s be clear. Humans can’t even beat their own internal strife. Separatists and White Mantle both sap at any chance the mice could have of ever winning any war. And by war, I mean against the centaurs. …I repeat, centaurs. With wooden catapults and primitive weapons.

Excelsior.

No, because I think I have to agree to certain people in an archived thread (Asura race subforums) that Asura might not want to engage in any kind of offensive acts/wars and focus more on defense, read in: Stabilize Rata Sum.

As Asura myself, I think we are already taking Tyria over, bit for bit. Like water: It does not fight you, it does not hurt you, but it can you drown. We don’t need to reclaim Ascalon, also because a “friendly” relationship to the cats is mandatory; the other races are merely pawns in a bigger game.

My Guild Wars 1 characters absolutely would. It was extremely frustrating to learn that we never did get to reclaim Ascalon either during those games or afterwards.

But their descendant in GW2? Ok a lot of her ancestors were Ascalonian but she was born in Kryta (and has other ancestors from all over). She hadn’t even seen Ascalon until she went there to help the charr stabalise the region. She couldn’t care less that for a while it was a human kingdom and certainly isn’t going to start a war with both some of her best friends and one of the most militarily powerful races in Tyria over it. Especially not when there are more important things to worry about.

My other characters aren’t even human, it’s all ancient history to them and not really relevant to the things trying to kill them all today.

As for me personally? On the one hand I think it’s a game and it doesn’t matter. On the other hand it’s a fictional interpretation of a real and reoccurring political situation and I could be here all night debating the pros and cons of both sides claims and trying to find a solution that seems fair to everyone. And it probably wouldn’t work anyway.

That actually falls in with my point I made earlier in the thread. No one cares about reclaiming Orr to live there because everyone who used to is dead. Ascalonians are pretty much all dead. The few left are probably as much krytan as they are ascalonian.

That’s only for the descendants of ascalonian refugees in Kryta (and even then it’s likely not correct – there’s a whole Ascalonian district in DR if you haven’t noticed, as well as a big ascalonian settlement near LA). Ebonhawke is however a solely ascalonian city. There might have been some blood mixing in there, but that would be a minority.
The same almost certainly stands for most of the separatists in Ascalon areas (because most of them are likely descended from those that fled to Ebonhawke).

Remember, that Ascalon has been losing the war for years and during all that time refugees continued fleeing the country. There were many of them. And they didn’t get wiped out, like many of the Krytans, when southern krytan territories sunk due to Zhaitan’s awakening (because they settled north of LA).

So yeah, there’s not enough Orrian survivors (i bet there were some) to worry about reclaiming Orr now. The reason why up until recently there was still a war going on, and why the peace settlement is so strongly opposed by separatists show us clearly that in case of Ascalon there are still many people alive that do care.

That’s however (as it has been already pointed out) only for the humans. Charr obviously have a completely different point of view, while other major races have no beef in that, and care only inasmuch as the potential resulting conflict won’t blow in their faces.

The only way to stop the Foefire is in the lore. If Sohothin, the blade that Rytlock is wielding or it’s sister blade, Magdaer is returned to the haunted ruins of Ascalon City, in the hands of the rightful king of Ascalon, the ghosts there will finally be laid to rest. That is not likely to happen, because someone would have to kill Rytlock to get that sword from him. Or find Magdaer, which is lost somewhere in the world.
